Hi all,
I have a couple of questions, I'm trying to understand Revolutionary and Alpharev. First of all, the revolutionary flashes a new bootloader which is S-OFF right, or isn't the secureflag in the bootloader?
On alpharev.nl I read that if you are already S-OFF you can flash a new HBOOT (which is the same as a bootloader right?) right away. But with alpharev you can first S-OFF your phone. This is confusing to me, the way I interpret it is: First you flash a new bootloader with the instructions including the livecd etcetera, and next, you flash another unlocked bootloader to your phone optimized for your ROM. So you flash two bootloaders after eachother, the first being necessesary to S-OFF, but in theory you could use the live cd to flash the right bootloader right away the first time?
My main question:
Can I S-OFF with revolutionary (for it being much easier) and then use a HBOOT from alpharev without a risk of those two possibly interferring in a bad way with eachother?
quick answer: yes
alpharev and revolutionary both achieve s-off (just check you meet the requirements), which is basically disabling NAND security
alpharev is just older, you are right to choose revolutionary as it is newer and easier.
the hboots you flash from alpharev are partition tables, flash them depending on custom rom requirements (needs to fit in system partition)
Yes, thank you for that reply I needed that

Hello everyone, I just got my DHD 2 days ago, and I already want to flash a new ROM on it (Revolution). I have rooted my phone via the wiki article, using gfree_02.
However, I am not sure about ENG S-OFF. I have rooted my phone using "./gfree -f", which means superCID, simlock off, RADIO S-OFF.
So I am guessing I only achieved RADIO S-OFF (besides permaroot, superCID and simlock). But prior to rooting the gfree way, I've noticed in the wiki that it suggested Visionary to be uninstalled. I've never installed it so it was no problem.
But now, in order to flash mike's Revolution, I need to have ENG S-OFF aswell (for flashing a better radio). I do not know if I achieved ENG S-OFF using only the gfree method (did I?). The only method I've seen is via ONE CLICK ENG S-OFF, via Visionary. I'd like to know a few things before I proceed.
Does installing Visionary on the phone, and turning ENG S-OFF via that method, cause any conflicts with gfree's permaroot? (seeing as the wiki suggest to not have Visionary installed) Does it have anything to do with the method I've used to permaroot?
And also, I would like to know what ENGINEERING HBOOT does, is it a second method to achieve ENG S-OFF? and if it's recommended over the Visionary way, considering I've achieved permaroot and RADIO S-OFF via gfree.
In case it is needed, my Build number is
Code:
1.32.405.6 CL278359
and Radio version is
Code:
12.28b.60.140eU_26.03.02.26_M
Thanks in advance!
boot into bootloader, (turn your device off, when off hold the volume down key and press power) at the top of the hboot screen it will either say "ACE PVT SHIP S-OFF" that is radio s-off. if it says "ACE PVT ENG S-OFF" thats eng s-off, if you only have radio s-off, you need to install an older 1.32 based htc rom with a stock kernel before you can use the eng s-off tool
Thanks for the reply!
Yep, it appears it is saying "ACE PVT SHIP S-OFF". But why do I need to install an older 1.32 ROM, I haven't seen that mentioned anywhere (except if the ROM is 1.7x)
Here's a quote from the One Click ENG S-OFF thread
jkoljo said:
It is best to use STOCK ROM (lower than 1.7x)!
Click to collapse
So I should qualify for using the tool, right? If not, could you tell me from where have you read that you must install an older 1.32 (I already have 1.32.405.6)
Yes, your build is compatible
Great, thanks for the replies!
I have ENG S-OFF, and will proceed to flash a new radio. Just to be on the safe side, should I do a backup via CWM? Does CWM also backup radios?
The backup does not include a radio, so it does not matter whether you do it or not. You can find all the radios here in XDA, so it is not a problem.
you can flash any radio you want.
you can find the recommended radio for Revolution Rom, in the Revolution post.
I'm using Android Revolution 2.0.11 with kkernel_v19cfs kernel (you can find it here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=836259).
radio 12.35d.60.140f_26.06.03.24_M2

have a nice DHD flight
Hi
I want to S-OFF my desire, and just came across the revolutionary tool.
In their documantation file, they say they tested it only on HBOOT 0.93, and 1.02.
I didn't S-off my desire yet so I have STOCK HBOOT (0.90).
has anyone tried to use the revolutionary tool with this HBOOT ?
or if not, is there any SAFE way to change HBOOT (like 0.93) without S-OFF your device?
Alpharev.nl
1)if u try revolutionary, it will say you that ur hboot is not supported of course
2)if you don't have the 0.93 mean u are not up to date..the latest htc stock rom have 0.93 (ar least the unbranded one)
3)0.90? i think is 0.80? is it? it is an older hboot
4)u cant charge hboot if u have the stock one..the stock one is S-ON, mean u cant change it in no way..after s-off, u can change it
5)alpharev.nl could work
I meant to write HBOOT 0.92.0001 .. somehow the numer had mixed up.... that was weird..
anyway, I have an HBOOT 0.92.0001 with a PVT3 (yea, the device is preaty old, bought it about a year ago..)
too bad.. I thought I could do it more easily (and safe) and not go for the IMAGE way.. but if there is no choise, that what I'll do.
anyway, after I'll S-OFF by alpharev's IMAGE, how can I change the HBOOT? just flash it from recovery, or another way should be done?
many thanks for your help!
alhparev will replace ur actual hboot with the 0.93 "hacked hboot" with S-OFF flag (the same is for revolutionary)
after that u can change it (if u need a different partitions table to get more space on the data partition for example) through fastboot command, booting ur phone in fastboot mode
both alpharev and revolutionary do the same, give u s-off replacing ur actual hboot..revolutionary is an evolution of alpharev but only support 0.93.x and 1.02.x
btw to use alpharev first u have to root it with unrevoked
changing the hboot is only to get s-off and have the ability to use different partitions table..no other advantages in it
And of course in the rare event that revolutionary does not work on the old hboot, the old hboot can be upgraded with the froyo ruu

Hello, i have flashed new ROM on my phone (DHD) ROM - ARHD 6.3.1
then i wanted to flash radio too. I did it like is written at instructions, but i have a problem.
When i wrote to black command prompt "fastboot flash radio radio.img
It wrote: sending -> done
writing "radio" -> failed <remote: not allowed>
Can you help me what to do please? of course i had USB debuging enabled.
It sounds like you don't have ENG S-OFF on your DHD - to flash any file using the fastboot.exe method, you need ENG S-OFF.
See this thread to flash an engineering hboot to your phone and get ENG S-OFF:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=855403
Or this thread for an alternative way to flash radios without replacing the hboot on your phone:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1054304
Hope that helps.
I hadn't S-OFF thank you!
But i dont understand why, i have custom ROM so i had to do ENG S-OFF, didnt I?
You have SHIP S-OFF. Not ENG S-OFF.

Yes, thank you
i am beginner in this, i dont know many things about it. Its too many informations for me right know, so excuse me please
Well you got as far as rooting your phone and flashing a custom ROM, so you're doing good. Mind you, a search on the error message would have turned up lots of results, so it's always a good idea to search first before asking questions.
SHIP S-OFF (also called Radio S-OFF) is a way of changing a security setting on your phone that allows you to write to parts of your phone's memory that are usually protected, such as the system partition where the ROM is. It also allows you to set the "Super CID" which allows carrier-locked phones to work on any network. However it doesn't allow you to use fastboot.exe to flash things to your phone.
ENG S-OFF is a complete replacement for the normal hboot (or bootloader) on your phone. It's an engineering version of hboot, and pretty much allows you to write to any part of your phone's memory, including using the fastboot.exe tool - which allows you to flash radios from the command line.
They're both ways of removing security on your phone, but they work in slightly different ways and complement each other.
You only need SHIP S-OFF to flash a custom ROM, but you need ENG S-OFF to flash a radio - unless you use the PD98IMG.ZIP file method from the second thread I linked. That will work with just SHIP S-OFF, since it doesn't make use of the fastboot.exe tool.
Hope that helps a bit rather than confuses things further.
i managed to get s-off but when i try to get eng s-off i had long time to boot to the rom so where to get eng hboot for 3.13 rom ? and how to get eng s-off for this new dhd ?
connect the phone to ur pc in charging mode and not mount the sd card
i'm not sure there is a way, because if i'm not mistaken, only 0.85 hboot is eng s-off, and that will jam up 3.x shipped phones. not 100% sure though, but after reading through aahk docs it was said not to do it. try reading this:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1424023
might be some useful info here. the part i did read talks about s-off, but i think thats radio. gl
You can't and you shouldn't as you have seen messes up your phone. Their is no need for Eng soff. I'm assuming you want to flash a radio. Just flash one using the pd98img formatted method
I already gave faq round and round the forum and I have no clear some things,
I have a CDMA Desire HBOOT 0.98 and had a pass that posteriormete 1.06
So far so good, I make s-off with Revolutionary 0.4pre4 and install cyanogenmod 7.2.0 stable version
the detail is that I change the boot to 6.06.1002
my question is,
I can install some other room regardless HBOOT?
my cel is root?
because of the revolutionary documuentacion says no, my phone no is root only used revolutionary.
if wants to root. the site of revolutionary provided zip, already flashe.
and what size are the partitions for sd, because although some applications move to sd I can not use the widget.
excuse my bad English, use google
