I agree. I simply don't see the point of some anonymous individual saying goodbye to a group of other anonymous individuals. I personally don't care and I doubt anyone else does either.
As far as Sprint data speeds, it really depends on where you are. In most places where I get good signal, I have good data speeds, and in some areas of NYC I get over 1 Mb/s consistently on 3G, much like my friends on Verizon and AT&T. Verizon may be a bit better or more consistent, but I doubt it's worth the much higher cost and data caps. Still, it all depends on where you are, so it may be worth it for him.

Yea if you like bending over and taking it hard, with no candy, flowers or candle light dinner. Their coverage is good but their customer service is horrid. If you're going to post nonsense contributing to an already pointless thread, at least provide some facts.
There are a lot of factors in saying they're the "best" carrier. I'll give you a bunch of factors why they aren't.
-Non-competitive rate plans (no any mobile any time, high prices, lack of features)
-No more repair centers (after warranty runs out you're screwed or making a claim)
-No unlimited data (4GB may sound like a lot, but on LTE your consumption rate skyrockets)
-Poor signal penetration (had many complaints while selling VZW about losing signal in house/work/stores)
-Lack of benefits for businesses (no PTT network and lack of discounts)
-Poor PR (bad employment conditions, pay with-holdings, lack of HR presence)
-Terrible customer service (no bill credits for 3rd party screw-ups or improper billing charges)
I can go on and on. No carrier is perfect, I have some nitpicks with Sprint, but faster data does not make Verizon the "best" carrier.

Not gonna lie when I was on Verizon service was perfect in my area or wherever I went. Bars stood high and calls were crystal. For Sprint it depends where you are more. I went with sprint because of it being cheaper and unlimited. But honestly i've never went past 3GB of data and i'm never on wifi

This is clearly a part of a new trend (I think )
I used to get 2.1-2.3 Mbps at home. I now feel lucky to get 1.5. Also around town, I've seen significant slowdowns in terms of bandwidth everywhere compared to what it was like a year or so ago.
Someone suggested that this phenomenon was the result of Sprint updating their hardware network. Maybe so, but one could hardly call this an "upgrade". While I have seen a consistent decrease in ping times (good), there was a complimentary decrease in bandwidth (bad).

Could simply be that more people are using the service. Unfortunately, all carriers in the US are painfully slow at upgrading their bandwidth capacity. I can get nearly double the speeds on both 3G and 4G during off-peak times in the same area. I've seen over 12 Mb/s on Wimax in the middle of the night, and barely 4-5 during the early evening hours, in the same spot. Our internet speeds in general are pathetic when compared with the rest of the industrialized world. There are countries where 1 Gb/s internet is commonplace, whereas here, Verizon charges something like $100+ per month for their top of the line FIOS internet. And it's still about 1/10 of what other countries are providing.

With sprint I rarely went over 2 gigs of data. I travel alot being a week gone and a week home. When I'm at home I'm on wifi and at the hotel I'm on wifi

One thing making the US behind other country's on Internet Speed is other company's can sell service off of another line. Check out their prices too you can get 50MB/s. For around 10-15 dollars a month.

Short rant about network vision

So they are doing network vision updates in my area.
The area's that are done are pretty nice. No boost in signal which is fine, but the data speeds are fantastic! Unfortunately that's downtown only. The rest of the city on the other hand though had it's tower's taken offline for the upgrade and the towers serving us is now just the ones downtown. At home i went from 4ish bars to roaming missing calls, texts and such. Wouldn't care but I missed a few phone interviews today and pretty livid about that.
Hopefully I'll be reaping those benefits soon, and hopefully they are deploying lte not just upgrading the cdma.
/end rant
There are some of us who experience no signal all the time and it's not from towers being taken down to be upgraded as well so cheer up

99% sure upload is throttled to 1.5 Mbps. Being the total capacity of each tower is not being hammered for upload you usually see the 1.4* Mbps like I do. Download on the other hand is getting hammered.
Before anyone compains omg throttled. That is how it is supposed to be done, when you have a limited resource you qos throttle it.
4g in my area LA works well. In doors its pretty **** but 3g is terrible

Ok so sprint is suppose to be launching LTE on the 15th of July I my self do not live in one of the LTE launch cities ( El Paso Tx where I live probably won't see LTE till 2014 knowing sprint) back to what I was saying I will be in San Antonio the weekend they launch I'm excited to try this out seeing how I've never even tried wimax do u guys think sprints LTE speeds will be anything close to AT&T or Verizon's I've seen speed test up to 30 to 40 mb down I know that's not on average but still amazing u think sprint can compete? Also with this coming out how long u think sprint will stay unlimited....I barely get 10mbs from my local Time Warner cable at my house! if lte is pushing that speed and still unlimited I'll just tether like crazy..so i just want feedback anyone think unlimited data is coming to a end with lte or special lte plans coming out??

Sprint has recently been more aggressive with free tethering. The data that comes through when tethering isn't the same as what would come through just using your phone and if you use a bunch I'm sure they will start looking... Then giving the shutdown sandwich.

The actual websites may not be different, but there is definitely a difference in the data sent and received. For example, when your computer or phone requests a website, it sends information like which browser and OS you use. This particular info can be spoofed, so it's not a huge problem, but there are differences in the ways different operating systems handle packets, and that can't be hidden.

Sprint read packets being sent using free tethering and determining what you've been doing while tethering, most of this only occurs when tethering has been drastically abused.

no sprint WILL keep unlimited data and the lte will not be quite as fast as at&t or verizon perhaps a few megs slower but i could care less the 12 megs i got with wimax were plenty enough all i want is a LTE connection that does not drop every 5 mins sprint has to keep unlimted data otherwise they WILL lose millions of customers
Technically speaking it shouldn't be able to hit as high for peak speeds using a 5x5 carrier vs 10x10 that the other guys use. Sprint has expressed how they are not looking to get into a peak speed war with the other carriers (since they would lose at it), instead they intend to focus on consistency. The hardware they are using will be able to (in the future like 2013/2014) hand off between all of their spectrum for all of their services, and with the rebranding of the 800MHz their coverage will be dramatically increased for voice (and later LTE as well). If Sprint can make their LTE network consistently around 6-12MB/s and keep it unlimited I would be very happy.
As for staying unlimited, I don't see why they can't continue it for the next few years if they choose. Sprint will probably see a net decrease in the cost of operating their new network vs the old one and nextel, and if they are not going for all out peak speeds they won't have that to contend with. The unlimited is the ONLY thing that keeps a lot of people with Sprint, if it wasn't for that I know I would have left. This will continue to be the case, if they end unlimited, Verizon with their big network will look pretty. Verizon and AT&T with their faster LTE networks will look nicer. For the next two years at least the only thing that differentiates Sprint is unlimited, so I think it's unlikely they would change that.
Now, I do foresee Sprint throttling your speeds past a certain amount of usage (hopefully over 5 or 10GB), or during peak hours for heavy users, but as long as they only throttle to a respectable amount I can live with that.
Hopefully southern california gets 4g lte im dying here using the wifi at home

I'm definitely happy, specially since truly unlimited coming on the 5th, when you go to walmart or the mall it kind ducks because of the network, meaning insides buildings is not that good, but at home work and places I visit is amazing, I get like 20mbps at my house, having said that I don't use minutes much so idk how calls are, I use like 100 minutes at month and not complaints here, best network in my area is att but is too expensive for my taste
He means when your in a bad are you won't have fast Internet, sprint has more areas cover, is slow consistently everywhere, while tmobile could have amazing speeds in one spot and dead in another, like I said it depends where you spent time using it

Yeah if I take my phone off wifi right now at my house im 4 miles away from 4g service and my phone is on g(which is 2g) its worthless. On top of that my phone will show full service but no internet connection and when I make a call it says not registered on network (att) so the roaming on att is a lie. Unless you are in the middle of no where it wont roam.
I have been on the phone with cs for 2 weeks and they wont tell me why it wont roam on att when it says I have roaming included.
Ill post a speedtest.

My life for Aiur
I made the switch last december when I finally had enough of paying them to get no service. Im on the value family plan with 4 phones total and its right around 160 a month. Unlimited talk and text for all 4 lines, 3 of the 4 have 2gb of data each. As of the next billing cycle tho for the same price it will turn into unlimited internet for me once it takes place on wednesday. No dropped calls, great plan price, great internet speed. I recommend it, dont regret it at all.
Well i recently made the switch from Sprint to T-mo primarily because i really wanted S3 & Sprint wouldn't have 4gLTE in NY for awhile & their 3G sucks now in upper Manhattan and what's the point in having a beautiful looking phone if i can't show off some HD YouTube vid without buffering every 5sec.Not to mention they still charge $10 for the 4G even if its not available in your are.
Loving T-Mobile speed on this S3 way faster more consistent than sprint wimax and will love it even more when its unlimited and their prices are about the same for me and they have more plans to select from compare to Sprint

I believe they do. A lot of them just don't seem to carry them in the store. You can still buy the phone but it will be ordered to the store.

Roam Control

So I've seen a couple people running Roam Control, does anyone currently have it on their phone, if so, does it work? And what is the premise behind it. I've found a couple on the play store but not sure if they're the app or not. So I figured I'd ask around on here a little bit first. Thanks!
The official Roam Control app was removed from the play store.

That's his site.
Also - which or not this app works on your device is entirely location dependent. My area has old Alltel sites and it's impossible to force my phone to roam on them. Oh well. lol
Cool. Thanks. I'll look into it. I appreciate it.
Works for me every day. I've had that app since my og epic.
It basically forces your phone to roam on the nearest roaming tower.

Works well for me. I use it in conjunction with a Sprint corporate prl that gives 3g on roaming. There are a few slow towers here in town and if I need data I'll force roam. Oddly enough Sprint has faster data speeds where I live in the middle of town than Verizon does, so I don't have to use it much. It's a godsend when traveling though.

I'm suffering from the Alltel tower issue as well. They are messing with signals for all three major carriers in my area.

Its weird because I can roam on Verizon only prls, but when I force it via roam control, it will not work. I'll try it again later just to be sure.

I have pretty good signal at work, when I can use my phone anyway. So I'll report back on how it works once I head to my friends place again where I have huge LOS problems.

Yeah... I had one bar or less sitting at my desk, so I dropped $4 on roam control and gave it a shot- forcing roam gave me no signal at all. I may have to try the 00001 prl and see if that gives me a signal.

I don't necessarily think it's an AllTel issue. I have the same problem in Northern Wisconsin, which is mostly old AllTel towers (now Cellcomm). My S3 has a gel of a time maintaining s signal on the towers, no matter what PRL or modem I use.
However, my S2 works perfectly fine. I've even had then both on the same PRL to verify... I would get 3-4 bar with good 3g speeds on the S2, but often I would have LOS at the exact same time with the S3. My ZTE tablet also has far better reception in these areas than the S3.
I'm beginning to think there is something in the S3 hardware or firmware that was designed to make roaming more difficult.

What happens when you try to activate it? What do you mean by "never worked for me once?"
More importantly, what city do you live in?

It's worked great for me. What issues are you having? Maybe it's the vague nature of the emails or something.
I miss the Photon radio. Never had signal issues.

I get LoS as soon as I go roam only. Somebody mentioned before that it's because of the Alltel sites in my area but I have no idea how to elaborate any further on this.
I have turned on 3G roaming PRLs (such as 12124 and 56009), but they never work on forced roaming, always LoS. I tried roam control on CM10 yesterday and when I hit roam only, nothing happened. And I tried selecting GS3 in the settings and also tried Galaxy Nexus (figured it was worth a shot on CM10, since it's AOSP.)

Wow

I bought a gn2 unlocked off craigslist for $450.00 cash.
Purchased a solavei wireless sim card.
60 bucks a month no throttle after any amount of data used.
Great coverage averaged 14 mbps down. Hmm with speeds like these hard to see how sprint stays with these guys.
For the first time in years I have been thinking of bouncing. From sprint to another Carrier . The blazing data speeds have me mezmerized. Solavei rides on tmobiles network. But at that price it may be worth a switch.
Bought the 2nd gn2 for a work phone. Gonna wait and see if sprint builds out the lte network in my area. But it's sad when I go back to my sprint gn2 and speeds won't pay 512 kbps on average.

I did the post just for you.
Honestly your best rebuttal would have been not to post.
Wasnt about how crappy sprints 3g is. But more about how fast tmobiles network is.
Been a sprint customer 15 years nothing new to me.
Hopefully the softbank acquisition helps Fix that.
And the post is phone related its a phone forum.

HSUPA+ compared to EVDO lol. If HDUPA+ on tmobile was always 14-15mbs download then they would have no need to roll out LTE. Thing is HSUPA+ cant maintain that speed.
Uh... nvm I am not going to explain... congrats on your unlimited highspeed data through tmobile.

HSPA+ ? Trust me even still in the dfw areas it's good averages 6 to 15Mbps. They don't need to roll out lte but normal consumers don't understand differences between 4g technology. And t mobile is truly using 3g but when pushed to its ultimate limits it hits 4g like speeds. But they don't people that obviously.but that's why gsm is so much better than cdma and other stuff too lol

Thanks for the clarification
I appreciate the knowledge.
I'm also wondering when tmo gets the iphone. How much the network will suffer.
Just like the other carriers I presume.

Is Tmobile still "unlimited" - 5-10GBs then throttled to hell or is it like Sprint's unlimited?
I have tmobile and one of their major slogans sort of is "the only truly unlimited data plan". Ive used like 30 gigs of data the month I have owned my note 2 and have never been throttled. Usually get around 27mb 19 down. I notice no change in speed.

No they have a plan that's 5 and 10Gb with hotspot that's throttled but if you get the unlimited 4g plan it's cheaper and better setting how we can all get hotspot for free.

If Sprint were to release EvDo RevB or even RevC, it'd pull speeds of up to 30mbps, too. Problem is, lte becoming the new standard, it'll evolve the fastest and its cost efficient for Sprint in the long run (also cost efficient for any carrier.) This is why everyone's going to lte.

I didn't start this to bash sprint just amazed a Tmo data speed.
I still have my sprint account with 2 lines
I'll end up selling the tmo note 2 sooner or later. I am really looking forward to Sprints new owners making major changes. Hopefully we. Get 1 year. Upgrades back. That kept me on sprint
Despite slow data and the plans $$$
But. Being A Japanese. Company I'm. Wondering if these. Guys. Have gsm plans in the future.

Actually, I think softbank is a CDMA Carrier. I could be wrong though.

GSM certainly has its advantages, that's why I was with T-mobile previously. The HSPA is getting pretty fast at it's peak, but there are so many times when you don't get those numbers if you are in a heavily used area.
Having said that, I switched to Sprint because they are implementing the next wave of GSM (READ: LTE-A) before T-mobile will be finished with their GSM network (Read: HSPA+42)
