[Q] Broken, possibly diconnected touch screen. - Kindle Fire Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I think i hit the kindle on something when i had it in my pocket playing music. When i pulled it from my pocket it was still functioning properly. playing music, screen turns on and off. the touchscreen had rainbows and i could see nothing of the lockscreen. it still boots i just cant see anything and input is unresponsive
i could do a warranty exchange, but i have CM7 on it. is it difficult to disassemble the fire?
Any help would be much appreciated.

Just get a new screen

A touch screen is easy to repair for the Kindle Fire but it sounds more like you broke the LCD. You could take it apart to make sure but I wouldn't suggest it.
Your best bet would be to use adb to flash unrooted stock ROM and send it in to get repaired.
[Edit:] Be sure to back up your files first.

Then again, I guess its possible you just sweated it do death, assuming there's no obvious physical damage (i.e. broken/cracked glass). That's happened to me with my phone before...a couple of times actually.
You could leave it alone for a while and give it time to dry out. You never know...

Its been sitting for a few days already. I think I'll just adb to stock and send it in. Thanks for the suggestion soupmagnet.

Don't forget to flash stock bootloader too.

Broken screen or what?

A relative of mine also owns a G2 but recently they experienced a weird issue. They just picked up the phone just to see that the screen went bad. Wasn't in the process of flashing anything. The phone ran CM7.0.2 for the longest time. It was all black with a white line running across the screen and the capacitive buttons are stilll lit. After a week or so, the white line disappeared and its just a black screen now.
There's no water damage as it went nowhere near water and the water damage indicator is still white. Could the screen be broken? A loose connector? Any help?

I don't know much about the g2 but try and enter the bootloaders. If they come up then its programming. Something like that happened to my hd2 cuz a bad flash.
If they don't then its prob the screen.

You think just ordering a new screen from Amazon or eBay and replacing it will do trick? And yeah I just thought about bootloader as I wrote the question.

if it ran a long time i would guess a hardware failure (if it doesnt even show up bootloader)
so you need to replace the display.
does the display even initialize when powering up the phone?
when switching the phone on you see its "switching" from black to dark gray (lighter black as it is when powered off)
cause if it doesnt even get power, it could be something on the phone too which doesnt give (enough?) power to the display...
Yeah. but I'd take it apart if u know how just to check

Try to connect with adb just to make sure your phone is still working before you spend money on a screen. Unless it rings when you call it or something.

[Q] possible hard brick involving usb short.

rooted first gen. cant remember the exact rom used but i think it was an aokp flavor. anyway the battery died to the point that leaving it on the stock charger for days did nothing. so i read a whole lot on the forums and set everything up to do the usb shorting trick. did everything as instructed exept... i grabbed the charger and inserted it instead of the usb cable. nothing happened as you would expect. set everything up again and tried again several times. and nothing. screen and power button stay blank after shorting for up to 6 minutes. bricked? i think so but i figured i would run it by the experts before i sold the screen and other parts to my brother.
jtag maybe
im bumping this cause i havent found a solution and my brother said no to buying the parts. anyone have an idea of a possible jtag soultion? i saw where the riff box will cover the omap 4430 but i have never tried this before and im sure of any prerequisites for jtagging. anybody?
quick test: hold down power button for ten seconds, and plug it into the wall. anything happen? sorry, my expertise in the area you describe is zilch.

When you plug it in, does the CPU get hot?
Negative.

You might be able to usbboot successfully if you replace the battery, but there's still a good chance that by using the wall charger instead of the USB cable during the short, you may have done permanent damage.
Thats what im starting to think... battery has been charged outside of the fire. Holds 4.0 volts so I dont think the battery has much to do with it. Id love to find someone with some jtag exp. I have none. All suggestions appreciated. And keep them coming if tou please. Thanks guys

Oh, well it's screwed then. Even without a bootloader or xloader, the CPU would sill be working. In your case, it's not doing anything through battery or USB power, so you may have done irreparable damage to the hardware.

In that case, keep trying to usbboot. Users rarely get it on the first shot, so keep working at it.

[Q] Dropped my White SPH-L710; no display or touch, help!!

Hello Everyone,
I dropped my White SPH-L710 yesterday which I was using on page plus. It has no scratches, cracks or dents on the glass, however, there is no display and no touch functionality.
When I receive the call, I can hear it ring and everything but cannot answer because the touch isn't working. The screen is dark so there is no display either. Physically it looks fine but I suspect the LCD is a goner. Any help on what I can do to fix this thing. No insurance or warranty here. I'd rather not spend a lot of money on this.
Thanks in advance for the inputs.
I believe this happened to me one time when I had my epic. I freaked for an hour... Then decided to try and Odin a stock tar... Fixed it. If your phone is ringing and working it means your display is jacked. I'm sure there is little you can do. Hopefully you have insurance.
Try to Odin... But attempt to get your phone into download mode using your memory. Volume down + home button + power button.... Wait 5 seconds, press volume up. You should then be good to go. Only advice I have.

You can replace the screen and digitizer I'm not sure how much $$$ it is though. Their are instructions on thia forum.

Thanks for the inputs.
@RealTic
I tried that. The display is dead, I can't see anything when booting up, or in the recovery, or in the download mode.
@Speedin07si
I was thinking of ordering this and trying to work on it myself. Can you point me to the thread, and let me know if this is the right thing to order given the description of my problem. Thanks, much appreciated.

Search how to take it apart, and check for loose ribbons. If everything looks good then purchase a new one.

@csmasn
Thanks. I opened it up and checked everything and it did not help. So I guess the only way to fix it is to buy the LCD and digitizer.
This might help. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zzFU_8kYDdw&list=PLCvcbJqO8a2335FcP8CKfA_IvIWlHv4VH&index=1

Cleaning the Power button on Kindle

Hello, I'm having an issue where a foreign substance (possibly sugar based) has gotten on the power button and some went just inside and around it. When I first noticed I tried clean it out with a sharp knife (hopefully I didn't aid in packing it in there) and was able to remove a good portion. Since then though the power button is initially hard to press but if I hit it a couple times in succession it seems free like it should be.
I can find my way around software problems but hardware issues are an unknown territory. Would there be anyway to correct this without disassembling the tablet? I don't believe contact cleaner would be very smart lol. Any help will be appreciated by me hitting the 'Thanks' button for you
So how was that donut?
I don't think contact cleaner would hurt anything, but I would try a few drops of isopropil alcohol to try and dissolve that sugar. Do it with the KF turned off, and wait a few seconds before trying the button.
If that doesn't work, look on YouTube for a guide to take it apart, it's easier than you think.

Screen Issues

My Kindle Fire has been having a problem lately. When I touch one spot on the screen another receives the touch. For example when using the keyboard if I press the backspace button it thinks I pressed "t". I was running cm10 but I returned to stock and it didn't fix the issue. I'm thinking it's a problem with the digitizer. I really don't want to spend the money to buy a new screen/digitizer. Any advice?

I would usually put it down to the screen calibration, but when you say you changed ROMs too, I can't be too sure. Anyway, is this only on the keyboard, or do you experience it elsewhere too?
Try calibrating your device, and if that doesn't work, just take it to the service center and tell them the screen's not working properly. If it's under warranty still, they might not charge you anything. Unless, of course, there is water damage and your insurance does not cover it.
I am now on the stock ROM, how would I go about calibrating the screen? Also it is no longer under warranty.
