Hi to everyone,
two days ago my cellphone reported the message: "cellphone not allowed, mm6"; it seems strange because my cellphone is not SIM locked.. I was on arconium ROM with doom kernel firmware, I tried to back to stock but nothing.. changed baseband to 64.. Any ideas? I took this cellphone from a guy who had a contract.. maybe can be this?
Thank you
Are you using the same cell phone company where the phone was bought? If so, you should be able to use it anyway. You could also call the company and question them about the error you're getting.
Worst case scenario, your phone is stolen and the IMEI is banned...
The cellphone was Vodafone branded but not locked, I'm using another italian carrier.. I'm sure it's something related to the old owner, I will go to the shop which sold me the cellphone to ask how to solve this situation..
What i know some countries need the imported cellphones registred for working in the land you use it.
Where did you buy your phone from ?
In turkey when we use our cell with turkish gsm, im from norway it locks the gsm connection after two weeks

Hi XDA developers,
Tnaks for all your help ! where would I be without you!.
I have got an XDA2 from ebay, when I got it I was told that it was unlocked, as my company uses vodafone I wanted to run the phone on that. I put the SIM in and vodafone comes up on the display, text messages can be sent and your unlock software says the phone is unlocked.
BUT, I cannot make calls, when I dial the number it simply beeps three times and then ends the call, when I try and ring the number it also will not connect ... please please help, ive contacted the seller and he says that it worked fine on O2, I havent tried a O2 Sim but is the phone faulty or is it a problem someone else has encountered with these devices !
Your urgent help would be gratefully apreciated. Thanks James
This is probably a blocked phone, it is either stolen or been subject to an insurance claim whereby the company has written it off and blocked the imei to prevent further use of the phone. It will work abroad as the imei will not be blocked in other countries. Sorry to be the bearer of bad news my friend.
Thankyou
Thanks for the response, I think you are correct.. What I think has happened is the person I got it off had a new XDA2i and I believe that this had been got from his insurance company.
Can you confirm that XDA's work with vodafone ! I know they do, and I will have to sell this to someone from ebay.com so they can use it in there country.
thanks and all the best
James
I'd see if I could borrow someones O2 sim before thinking getting rid. You might find it just doesn't like your Voda sim.
I don't think it has an imei bar as it wouldn't pick up a network and you certainly couldn't use sms on it.
JD
Imei bar does not prevent signal reception on some networks, it just doesnt allow access to the network. And yes it would be a good idea to try another sim, however it does display symptoms of a blocked phone.
I have an XDA II. I bought unlocked from Ebay some months ago. Originally I was using a T-mobile sim, which worked really fine, with good strong signal all the time. But when the contract ran out I decided to go with Vodafone. It was a wrong decision. The signal with the XDA II is crap, even though the same sim get about a 70% signal in my other phone, a Nokia 6310i. I get the same 3 beeps and no call.
If I goto to other places the signal improves but it's never 100%. I can make and take calls and SMS messages, but cannot set it up for MMS messages. Vodafone say they cant help me because they dont have any XDA phones and dont know the setting to input.
My conclusion is that Vodafone and XDA's dont work well together. I can only assume that the arial in the XDA II is more in tune with other networks like T-mobile.
UNLOCK MY XDA2
Well i got a link from here to Unlock my XDA2 from 02 to orange and it has worked ok thank you so much for the person for downloading the link all the best antony
The person posting the question has no problem with signal, it registers fine, he gets 3 beeps when he dials, then it hangs up, I would like to know the outcome because I am 90% sure it is blocked, however I would be delighted if proved wrong as the guy will then be able to use his phone.
Bad news
Hi, Thanks for your concern, and yes I did try and unlcok the XDA from your site, and aI also did a ROM up-date.
I have now tried the XDA with an O2 Sim and like we thought its totaly dead, not even a signal on this network...
Luckily, I have had a lot of interest from outside the UK, and hopefully will make a small amount of profit from selling the item on.... but unfortunatly the guy who sold it me wont respond to my e-mails!... I could contact his insurance company and advise them as to what he has done... but to be honest is it worth all the problems that comes with it!, as as usual I the victim will probably come off worse!.. so can anyone else tell me there views of the vodafone network and if I should try again with an XDA 2 that works in the UK!, let this be a warning to everyone to chheck the IMEI with O2 before they buy a second hand XDA!... thanks once again!
Vodafone is fine with xda 2, for value on payg you cant beat tesco, its 20p across networks but you can choose 3 numbers and you get to call those at 10p per minute and half price sms. O2 payg gives you 300 sms free for a tenner topup and free wap access over gprs. So according to your usage just take your pick. Sorry to hear the phone was blocked, I had it 3 seperate times with xda 1 phones, most of the time the person who made the insurance claim isnt aware of the fact the the imei is barred after being written off. The insurance companies could address this by demanding the damaged phone before paying up.
Thanks
Thanks for your help, ive now got rid of the dodgy XDA to france (hope to god it works there), ive got another of ebay for £160 and double checked its not IMEI blocked... and paid by paypal so I dont get stung again.
I use vodafone as its my corporate SIM, e.g they pay for all usage and private calls are really cheap... but I cant use GPRS ! YET!..
THanks all anyway ! alls well that ends well as they say
Nice one, and yes it will work in France.
My girlfriend came back from Japan a few months ago and while she was there she bought a cell phone. This is partially my fault since I told her that if it had a SIM it could be unlocked and used in the US. Mostly true, right?
The problem is she went and bought a brand new phone that was recently released in Japan and I cant find a way to unlock it.
Does anyone know how to unlock this phone? Is there something specific I could use for SonyEricsson or is there a general unlock?
Its branded NTTDoCoMo FOMA. Its a sick phone, I just wish she could use it here.
Any help would be great.
Thanks in advance
Is Sony using WM?
OK when she got the phone did she ask for it to be enabled for roaming?
Have you asked the provider to unlock the phone for you?
The provider will ususally do one or the other.
If you are looking for a software solution you've come to the wrong place.
Its a Quad Band phone so it should work here. I'm not sure I understand why it would have to be roaming enabled. We dont want to roam, that would be expensive; we want to unlock it and use it with T-mobile.
Japanese providers will not assist you in any way to unlock a phone, its almost taboo to ask. When I was in Japan I asked how I could use a GSM Quad Band in the US and all they would say is it cant be done. Untrue because I know people who have Japanese phones in the US.
I'm not looking for a software solution, but if anyone knows where I could find software that might help that would be cool. I'm just wondering if anyone knows how to unlock this phone or knows how to unlock any SonyEricsson as it might be similar.
And are you asking if Sony is using Windows Mobile? If so, no they aren't. Are these forums only for WM?
My fault.
Upon further research I answered my own question.
It's actually not a GSM phone as I initially thought. Its a CDMA phone that uses a UIM card that is identical to a SIM card.
Solved
This is a GSM phone u can find IMEI number INa CDMA set u get ESN number not IMEI this phone is a GSM brand phone working on some other frequency. This can be unlocked using T-Sim but can't get network in your country.
I just bought a HTC s620 unlocked from ebay. I have been using my family members legit t-mobile dash and my sim works fine in it. The s620 came with NRG 1.3 rom on it. At first it would connect to the t-mobile network for a few seconds, then it would disconnect and get stuck saying searching.
I flashed the phone with .6 t-mobile rom, same problem. (yes i did the application unlock)
Now i flashed the phone with the 1.7 NRG Rose rom and i can't find any networks at all.
Anyone have any ideas? I have looked through all the settings just to make sure it isn't a dumb mistake. Is it possible that the HTC s620 unlocked phones off of ebay just don't work with T-mobile?
Thanks,
Hain
Update:
I tried the same with my brothers sim card, same results. Can't find any networks. I also tried flashing to 6.5 3VOLUTION, nothing.
I guess then perhaps it's either a hardware fault or the phone's IMEI number has been blacklisted, perhaps because it has been reported stolen.
Thanks for the response. It must be the phone radio that is busted. I am sending the phone back, all the way to China .
same problem
Hey... I've had this same problem... did you buy it from youdosure88 on ebay? I have a similar problem... the signal is strong outdoors but indoors there is no signal. did you get a replacement?
Hi,
I have bought HTC Desire (New) from eBay and seller said that he got it from T-Mobile and he don't know if it is unlocked or not. The thing is that from all topics I went throught it always says that if my phone is locked and I put different sim there then I will be prompted at boot to put code. I have tried with different sims (Vodafone, o2) but I have no such code input. Now I am using T-Mobile some cheap card and everything works but when using another card it gives me LIMITED Service Warning and no signal. It cannot register to any network as well. Any ideas if I should go and try to unlock it via some codes or it is unlocked already but I have to rebrand it?
Thank You,
Golotap
I was at Police/Vodafone/T-Mobile/T-Mobile/Another T-Mobile and everyone says this phone has been blacklisted in UK this is why it has such problem ._. so now I am just sending it back to Ebay seller.
Thank You,
Golotap
The amount of people buying from eBay and having problems is unreal. Go buy it from a retailer sicne your guaranteed it actually works.
The problem is money, normal phones are just too expensive for me so many people are just going to eBay.
Hi guys
Newbie question here
Im looking for a note 2 in Craigslist, some offers say "bad imei" and they have minor prices
For what I've read, the bad imei doesn't affect if I unlock the phone and use another carrier (I will use it in mexico)
am I correct?
Thanks in advance

Thanks for the question. I too am curious about this.
As long as it's in another country and carrier, you will have no issues with a bad imei.
Keep in mind you're buying stolen goods, either directly or indirectly. Is that something you're comfortable with?

Well, I didn't think about that
You're right
And no, I dont want to be a part of that
It really depends. Someone may interpret a bad imei as blocked/blacklisted or completely missing. If the first owner was inexperienced at flashing they may have not made a back up of the efs folder and lost the imei. If they didnt fulfill the contract with a carrier it could also get it blacklisted. And then also the possibility it was reported stolen.
Sent from my G Note 2!!!
A friend of mine told his carrier he were robbed to use the insurance and sell that phone
Here in Mexico, in 2012 the president made a law to block IMEIs in robbed cellphones
But most people its ignorant about the laws and rights -_-
So, that law isnt even working XD
Back in thread, Theres no way to know if my next Note2 its stollen or lost, etc
So im buying Used, but good imei
Carriers in the u.s. are going to start blocking imeis on all carriers. If u put ur sim in a stolen device on att ur service will be suspended. Right now they are in the process to stop stolen imeis from working on other carriers here and out of country.

Sorry, I didn't want to pull the morality argument, because I usually hate people who do that. But yeah, even the phones that were blocked due to the contracts not being fulfilled? 75% of that is usually someone coming in, buying 5 phones on an ID where they don't care about their credit, and never paying the bill. Stolen phones.

Hi,
How can we report "phone stolen" in Mexico ? The phone was bought in Canada and thus is associated with a Canadian operator, however the phone was stolen as soon as I arrived in Mexico, that too inside the flight by a fellow passenger.
Can the Canadian operator blacklist my phone IMEI even though it is in Mexico ? Or can I call the Mexican Telefonica company and then can blacklist this IEMI so that the phone can never be used in Mexico ? Please guide me through this, I'd be eternally thankful.
I am really worried and I have had such a bad experience in Mexico, firstly at the international airport in Mexico City the shopkeepers tried to make me pay more than I should, then my phone is stolen.
Thanks in advance,
Sanjeev

I've never had to deal with this, thank goodness, but you can try contacting your carrier (if you used the phone on your line, they should have a record of the device) and have it blocked on your carrier's network. However, since it's not an official phone sold by the carrier, they may not make your request a priority. It's worth trying though! It's also worth trying (if you actually have the phone info- imei/serial) to contact the Canadian carrier with a report so it can't be sold & activated on their network again in the future.
I know, it's old thread, but it came up in Google results while I was researching my questions. What do you guys think, buying a carrier locked blacklisted phone in Canada, can it be unlock, make it sim free? and why assume it is stolen phone. A person bought used iPhone from kijiji, totally working phone. In a few days, original owner claims it as stolen and carrier black lists the phone (in Canada). The buyer now has no use of it in Canada. He can try to unlock (sim free) the phone and send it overseas, like Europe, or Asia. I don't see anything wrong here, just looking for your opinion. Thank you.
I believe parts of Europe have a blacklisting system in place so the imei should be checked before trying to network unlock the phone for use in another country.
Many people assume that a phone has been stolen because the imei has been blacklisted and, as you pointed out, this is not always the case.
I'm not 100% sure but some unlockers will not or cannot unlock a blacklisted phone.
