I am using root explorer to modify some files in the /system/app folder, I firstly mounted as rw and start the modification. Is that I have to remount it as ro in order to protect the system from being changed by third party application??
Which modifications you did? Because, why the system will change the file?? Automatically when you close Root Explorer it comes to RO. Or do a reboot and see.
I think after root if any app had wanted change sth it would change to rw itself.

i have a 2.2 rooted ROM and i need to edit the /etc/bluetooth/audio.conf file to enable A2DP autoreconnect option.
Ive tried Root Explorer and ADB shell, but allow me to mount the fs as r/w and copy the edited file in, but when ive reboot the file is back to the original time/date and contents.
I also tried editing the file in Root explorer and it does the same.
what am i doing wrong here ?
I've used the Root Explorer to edit config files.....try opening it as a text editor through the root explorer. Edit the file and save it..it should automatically make a back up of the audio.conf file in addition to saving changes to the original file...
EDIT: Oops, it seems like you have already attempted to write changes using the text editor...I'm assuming that you've mounted the file system as r/w within Root Explorer before editing?...
You are not s-off. Either s-off or do it with adb while in recovery.

Hello,
I have my Arc 2.3.4 successfully Root
and i have a problem. I wanted to install the following file
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1342033
@ Download Nr 5. (SystemUI STOCK 42 COLOURED CUSTOM BAR.apk)
And if I file with the "Root Explorer" want to install, Come one message:
"Application is not installed" and when i change the permissions say he me: >>"permissions change was not Successful. Please Note that some file system (e.g SD card) do not allow permission changes"<<
and when i move file to SD/System/App say: " you cannot paste here because the file is read only"
1. i dont speak englisch
2. this is all complicated
please you can help me?
p.s what is RW-- r- r- ???
i cant found RW or r,r on permissions -.-
aaaand on description say: backup your original apk. lol But how does that?
iam overwhelmed XD
firstly the apk is not for install manually.
you need to move it to system/app using root explorer.
ffirstly copy the file to system
mount r/w
and change the permission to 644 or rw-r--r--
now move systemui.apk to system/app
and restart phone,
it should take effect.

so I tried installing a systemUI.apk, and lost my notification bar and lock screen.
I tried moving the original apk back but it wouldnt work.
on ESFile explorer, mount r/w has ro and rw options. which ones do I need to have checked?

Check both r/w.

I am trying to use clock work mod to instal custom rom.... I am running the latest ics release rooted and unlock...
you need to download root explorer
then go to "/etc"
then click "Mount R/W" on the top of the screen,
and then delete install-recovery.sh
What is the question?
If you ARE rooted you need to install a file manager (Ex. Root Explorer), set R/W and either delete or Rename the file. Suggest you simply rename by adding a .bak to the end of it.
Once this is complete flash the recovery image through fastboot.
BTW .. you could have posted this in the Clockwork thread and the instructions I gave above are already there.
Edit: LOL ... I must type too slow. In 7 minutes you got three identical answers.
Need to be 100% rooted n a root explorer

Okey, used Explorer... You cannot paste here because the file system is read-only!

edit:
well, I have moved app by Es Explorer in app system folder.. Now If I want install it, will see installation......app is not installed....
edit2: I have restart my phone, my apk AXT9IME is in system/app folder, whan my phone start, tell me: samsung keyboard can´t work
System change read only. How do it
some idea?
For Stock Rom you need rooted phone.
There are many apps, you can use e.g. "Root Explorer" from Play Store.
I think there is a free version available.
Procedure for Root Explorer:
1. copy wished .apk to Storage on phone.
2. start Root Explorer
3. go to .apk you want to copy in system/app
4. select it and copy
5. go to system/app
6. in upper bar in the middle you can see mount status. (-ro)
7. change it to -rw by clicking on it and select item -rw
8. Superuser app flushes: grant access
9. Paste .apk in system/app
10. Restart your phone and have fun.
Feel free to ask if further problems occurs.

Yes! Is true, not compatible, I have folowed guide from teddytsen, all right, but after reboot after my phone freeze and tell me AxT9IME.apk (samsung keyboard) can´t work and stop!
I tested deodex .apk too and same problem always. And if I use Uninstaller Master and see in System apps, there is way to AxT9IME.apk normal- /system/app/AxT9IME.apk, but there is write "2.3.6"!
I want just same as I writed in my first message in atachement. But I don´t know if exist any compatible apk with my Stock or Custom ROM (I have problem with this in both).
In 4.1.2 JB is poor 3x4 grey keyboard... Don´t want it, maybe better downgrade
Hey guys, I recently updated my Moto Z Play, retin version to Oreo...Rooted it via magisk and installed xposed.. So far everything seems good and the battery has also improved a lot.. The only thing that bugs me right now is that i am unable to modify /system files... I was trying to change my bootanimation.zip file...Used RootExplorer, FX Explorer, Root Browser but to no avail..All of them were denied RW permission... Tried booting into TWRP and mounting system as RW, moved the bootanimation.zip to system/media and as soon as i rebooted my device, the change was reverted... It seems any change we make to /system is reverted back due to verification at boot... Is there a way to enable RW access so that i can modify /system files... Thanks

Try looking for a system_root folder that Magisk creates and see if you can change it there.

Nope, there is no such folder in my phone... Is it just me without RW /system access or is it with every oreo devices? How do you guys access and modify /system files on oreo?
Idea of Magisk is not to modify system. Please read documentation and questions other peoples asked.

I know but on 7.1(nougat) with magisk and xposed installed, I was able to modify system files.. I used to do all kind of build prop edits & other stuff but on oreo I am facing issues with installation of busybox as well as modifying system files...
My problem is the opposite: it is way too easy to mount system rw. One click ona button in TC, and I won't be able to do OTA without flashing system again.
So, I don't want to find out if system is mounting rw on my mobile. These modifications you want to do are better to do in Magisk way. If you do a system update, you keep your Magisk settings, so modifications will stay. OTA will only require uninstall of Magisk. Why do you want to do them the hard, incompatible way?

On some device you can do this function in recovery.....
TWRP can do these changes when you disable the "mount system as RO" in mount settings. But you'll have to flash a zip that removes dm-verity too, otherwise it won't boot up. Magisk will most likely fail to change the bootanimation on many devices because it can't replace it soon enough.
