Flashing using FLASHTOOL not fastboot need help - Xperia Play Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi i wanna know if there is a way to flash custom roms and kernel with flashtool(not fastboot) with a locked bootloader xperia play r800a???
Sent from my R800a using xda premium

Nope, not with flash mode. Flash mode only works with ftf and they are Sony branded stock files
And the only way to flash a custom kernel is fastboot

if you unlocked for free first try to unlock again it will give error that you are already unlocked and if you paid for it flash any kernel
i suggest you to first flash any ics kernel then any ics rom as i think you are flashing ics on gb kernel

If you have fastboot which is available in the apktool kit, you can verify bootloader status by putting your phone in fastboot mode (blue led) then open a shell and type "fastboot.exe getvar secure" without quotes. If it says no then you have unlocked bootloader. You can flash a kernel with flashtool or fastboot.exe. I recommend backing up your TA in flashtool prior to doing anything if you haven't already done so...could save you some trouble in the future.

[Q]Flashing with flashtool brings back phone to stock?

1. I wanted to know that is it possible to downgrade using flashtool e.g if i flash a custom rom which is based on firmware .55 but then i flash with flash tool, version .50, would it work?
2. By flashing through flash tool, can i get rid of CWM?
1) yes
2) yes
Assuming you have an unlocked bootloader and you mean flashing ftf files

No. I'm not planning on unlocking bootloader but yes i was referring to ftf files. DOes it change the scenario?
Anyone?
The custom rom part put me off, sorry about that.
You can use flashtool to flash a stock ftf firmware over any custom rom. (also with a locked bootloader.
You could downgrade even to a gingerbread rom if you want

Ok and by flashing stock ftf, i would get rid of even clockwork right? in case of sending it to repair centre.
Thing is, i have played around with custom roms on different phones for ages but the whole part of unlocking bootloader etc is all new to me so before i begin flashing roms.
Yes it would remove cwm since it's embedded in the kernels and since stock firmware kernels don't have cwm it will be removed by flashtool when flashing a stock firmware rom

Returning to stock...bootloader unlocked

I have an Xperia Play on Stock GB using DoomKernel.
The bootloader is unlocked.
It has begun freezing and apps not opening properly.
So I want to reinstall the stock ROM.
What is the best, easiest and safest way to do this considering I have the bootloader unlocked?
Thanks.
It's flashing the ftf via flashtool
