[Q] [Help] Kindle Fire in a coma

Hi all. How are you?
My Kindle Fire was updated to version 6.3, then I wanted to root it. At one point observed that wasnt' rooted and the Google Play didn't work either. I do not know what I did, but now my Kindle Fire does not charge (the LED does not light), does not start and the screen remains black. I need you to advise me what to do, what are my options (cable factory, open the device, etc..). I've charged it all night long (I mean, connect it to the wall charger, I dont know if it's charging... no led, display black). It's not recognized by my PC when its connected. The power button reset (30 seconds) doesn't work. Greetings from Buenos Aires, Argentina.

Your post is not clear to pinpoint the exact problem. I will start from charging the KF. Have you charge your KF fire?

I've charged it all night long (I mean, connect it to the wall charger, I dont know if it's charging... no led, display black).

My PC does not recognize the KF.

Hold the power button down for 30 seconds, then release and then touch it again. It should wake up. That is known as the Sleep of Death, SOD.
If that does not solve it, you have a warranty issue, or a ramdisk / boot image error that needs a factory cable to resolve it.

The KF doesnt wake from the sleep of death. The power button cannot bring my KF back to life.

Wandered through most of these posts. After screwing up my 6.3 OTA to root process.
A common problem seems to be computer not recognizing KF. Found that I could fix that by uninstalling the drivers and then re-installing the driver. Then Kindle recognized again.
Then running KF Utility , TWERP , and other Clockwork Recovery programs found that none of the programs could "mount /sdcard" . Wouldn't let me run any *.zip file to get KF back online. Finally, with great trepidation, went ahead allowed the windows computer to "format drive" ( it had been inaccessible). Used the long format.
Then ran the KF Utility , #2 permanent root, then Clockwork Recovery and Update.zip, the to #6 Extra's and Google apps. And I'm back.
Lesson : uninstall/reinstall the drivers to get recognized
and when all else fails go for the "format".

Does sound like sleep of death yes so far when mine has done anything even remotely like what you are describing I have been able to shock wake it by plugging in real fast and unplugging thus jarring back to a normal state but yours sounds a bit more serious . My daughters did something odd after ota 6.3 as well I simply plugged it into PC and open the old kindle fire utility it claimed it couldn't get root but with root check it verified I did indeed have root. You might consider trying to buy a new charger for it to see if that isn't the problem might get lucky and just be a way dead battery and a bad charger luckly some cell phone chargers are the same connector and will charge the kindle carefully check match before inserting into charging port. There is a chance that your facing 1 or more problems hard brick or dead battery.

The trick of 'hard reset' of 30 seconds does not work, uninstalled and install all the drivers, and tried with other chargers. Nothing works so far. Remains in a coma, hopefully I can make it wake up. Thank you all.

I would have to make the cable. Any advice? I'm from Argentina and could not send the tablet to the U.S. for repair. Greetings.

My Droid x cable works fine so does the mini USB cable made by belkin retail cost 16$ I don't recommend making one if you mess up your situation could go from bad to worse http://shop.teamblackhat.info/Factory-style-programming-cable-for-Motorola-FactCable.htm here's where you can buy one unless you know of someone who has a droid maybe you can borrow their cable.

Same thing happened to me, like happened to franciscoruiz.
No power on, no led light, no usb recognition.
Here, in my city, we have Motorola Tech Service... If they have factory cables for Motorolas, this could work in my kindle fire?

I believe if you can obtain a factory cable grant you know this cable is not for charging. It should throw you into a factory restore process if I'm understanding the use of it totally that will completely wipe your device and send it back to stock someone correct me if I'm wrong . Sounds like it will put your device into fastboot at startup then kfu should recognize your kindle

You wont have to send it back.. I had the same exact problem like 2 days ago but mine was a custom ROM. So for some reason it wasnt recognizing its own charger that came with the stock rom. So what I did was I plugged a chinese V9 charger in (dont know if its AC or DC) and hold the power button for like 3 seconds. That seemed to turn the LED to orange and then I quickly plugged in its own charger and that worked for me

Details: Using Windows 7 64 bits, on a notebook.
Here is the full history of my brand new brick... call me stupid.
Second day with my Kindle Fire, I tryed to root my kindle fire.
Downloaded the KFU 0.9.5, instaled the drivers.
But the KFU wasn't workig... I only was getting the ADB offline status and the "waiting for device" message.
When I realized that the drivers I had were from my Motorola Milestone.
Next step: Uninstall the wrong drivers, and reinstall the new ones.
Only with this i could get the device to work with KFU.
Open the Run application at KFU folder.
Choosed option 2: Install Permanent Root with Superuser.
All worked fine until i get the message "with great powers come great responsabilityies" press any key to continue...
[EDIT: Tried to install Gapps extras... I don't remember if Kindle was dead before this or after]
The Kindle rebooted, got to the screen with the "kindle" word, and died.
Since that I'm getting no power on, no led lights, no response when connected to usb... nothing.
What should I do?
Go to Motorola Tech Support (here in my city) and try to use a factory cable?
or
I can only put my hopes on USB Boot Mode?

That's strange, installing the wrong device drivers on your computer shouldn't affect your Kindle.
What it really sounds like is your battery died in the process of installing the FFF bootloader. How was your battery before you started? Have you tried holding the power button for 20 seconds for a hard shutdown?
As far as I know, the only thing that will cause power on issues is a broken bootloader. In which case, USB boot with firekit is your only option.

I guess I had at least 50% o battery charge, or more... I can't remember...
If I push the power button now, the Kindle will get warm, as if it was in use. And if I hold for 20s, will shut down...
I don't even started to install de fire fire fire bootloader, I installed the permanent root with super user and then went to install GApps. I guess my kindle was shutdown before Gapps install.
What should I do? Test the factory cable first?
When you say that I have to use Firekit, you are saying that I have to open my Kindle?

Fix power on problems: If the Fire's screen never seems to turn on, you may have wrecked the bootloaders or the partitioning. Fortunately most of the time this results in the CPU falling into the low level USB boot mode. Use the "usb_fix_parts_and_install_fff_twrp" to rebuild the flash enough to boot TWRP. You don't need to use the USB shorting trick for this one, just power up the Kindle after running the script.

VMs will not work. You have to create a bootable Linux LiveUSB thumb drive.

If you already have a working Ubuntu installation, you don't have to make the USB stick. You can just run the fk binary in your Ubuntu setup.

I've tried it on a VM and had it confirmed by other users that VMs aren't fast enough to detect the USB in time. From what I've seen, it has always been suggested to either use either a straight Linux install or a bootable LiveUSB.

I guess it might depend on the VM, but I disagree with the generalization that VMs are too slow and have issues with USB.
The only thing I've seen is that Oracle's VirtualBox USB implementation breaks adb. I've never tried VMWare, but Parallels Desktop for both my Ubuntu and Windows setups work perfectly. Never had an issue.

Anybody who is going to be modifying the basic software of their Kindle, or even just root it and play around, should have a factory cable. Xda member SkOrPn makes good ones at a reasonable price and ships them quickly. See http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=25725396&postcount=338.
(From what you wrote earlier, I presume that you don't yet have convenient access to a factory cable but would have to go out of your way to use one. If you do, in fact, have easy access to one, I can't imagine why you wouldn't try using it instead of putting a lot of effort into looking for alternatives.)

About the USB stick, I was making some confusion about it.
But, I´ll gonna make one stick right now.

I made the usb stick... just figuring how to open the kindle fire, without ruining the case.
But I guess today I'll made the short trick.
Question: I'll keep the 6.3 stock room that i tried to root? Or I'll have to download another ROM?

KF Stuck at Logo - Sorry

I know this has been covered thoroughly in this forum multiple times, and I have really tried to read as many threads as possible before asking.
I rooted my device months ago and finally got a Nexus 7 and want to give my KF to my kids but wanted it stock first. I must have done something in TWRP that removed my bootloader.
I have tried the unbrick tool, I ordered a factory cable from Skorpn (awesome work btw) and by using KFU, my PC can finally see my Kindle.
The problem I'm having is that none of the commands are working and it looks like the bootloader is either bad or completely gone.
It used to turn on and the logo stayed bright. After I used the factory cable it now turns on, blinks, and goes dim.
All the drivers loaded correctly and KFU see's it online.
When I try to reinstall TWRP through KFU it downloads, but is stuck at waiting for device.

After reading further, I think I formatted too much and wiped the SD card partition. It doesn't seem like there is a bootloader at all.

I connected the factory cable and the logo is now staying brightly lit, so I assume it's in FB Mode.
I downloaded TWRP based on the link and FFF, but now I don't know what to do with them.
I went to ADB's site and installed SDK, but I'm not sure how to get the cmd portion to sideload TWRP and then FFF.

I'm doing my best to following along in the instructions and went to the ADB site and installed SDK.
I saved it to my C drive but when I try to do the following, along with "adb devices,
c:\Android\android-sdk-windows>
I get:
'adb' is not recognized as an internal or external command,
operable program or batch file.
Update:
NVM, I had it in the wrong directory.
Once I got that figured out, I did an "adb devices" and no devices came back. Of course I have the factory cable connected and I'm not sure if that matters.

Ok, now I used a standard USB and it sees my device, but now the logo went back to going dim after reboot.

So it looks like my problem is fairly common, however forum searches don't seem to be helping.
It looks like I wiped too much in TWRP.
Now that I finally figured out ADB, I'm confused about the factory cable.
When it's connected ADB does not see my device but the logo is lit bright yellow. When I use a standard cable ADB sees the device but the turns on and goes dim but the logo is still there.
I've downloaded the ZIP files for TWP and FFF, but I can't seem to figure out how to side load them no matter what I do.

I'm about to give up on this.
I decided to go the Soupkit rout and installed ubuntu 11.10 and got my PC to boot to USB.
I followed all the directions but my device is always offline. The only thing I can think of is that the 3rd step says to reboot, when I reboot Soupkit is gone and I have to download it again. When I download it, I save it, drag it to the desktop and extract it there and then run in terminal, use option 1 and then option 2.
I realize forums contain a ton of duplicate posts but I really tried to research and follow all the guides before posting.
Does anyone have any advice?

Let me know if this soup kit route works. we have the exact same problem going on here... ill live install ubuntu as well, Ill try my hand here shortly, and give you feedback on my testing.

No luck with adding persistence.
I get everything to to boot in Linux, followed all the instructions, but Soupkit still does not see my Kindle.
I've tried my factory cable and a regular cable. No luck
Some has changed though because now my Kindle logo light is solid bright whereas before it would blink and dim.

Well I've had a great dialogue with myself, but I fixed it by accident.
You guys do awesome work and I know its frustrating when people ask repeat questions. I thought I had truly given it my best shot before asking, but in the end it was an accident that seem to have fixed it, that and Skorpns factory cable LOL.
Right before I got ready to pitch it in the trash I figured I would try KFU one more time even though it wasn't seeing my Kindle. Device manager saw the ADB drivers in Android device though.
I plugged in the factory cable
Launched KFU
KFU said "offline"

That did the trick
I then unplugged my factory cable from both the PC and KF and booted the KF into recovery
Plugged in a standard USB

wow im def. gonna try this seeing how we have similar issues with my kindle fire being recognized with a reg usb and online in kfu but with a boot status of unknown and then not seeing it and status being offline when i plus in the factory cable. also with the regular cables it boots to the cm10 boot logo and then with the factory cable it stays at the kindlefire orange and white cable. only thing im confused on is where you say you

When I unplugged the factory cable from the PC and the KF, I could have done 1 of 2 things. Powercycle the KF and hold the power button down to get into TWRP or use a regular USB to side load a ROM and then load it.

If you're getting the Kindle Fire orange and white, you haven't installed the new bootloader. Rerun KFU with the Kindle in Fastboot (using Cable) and select install FireFireFire. This will give you the bootloader to reboot to recovery.
Edit: You might as well reinstall TWRP while you're at it, just to be safe.

[Q] Kindle Fire bricked, have factory cable but can't boot recovery, please help!

Hi. I am really in a jam here. I have read a lot of documentation and still am not getting anywhere. I bought my sister a Kindle Fire for her birthday, and after reading the Kindle Fire for Beginner's Guide, I was able to successfully install Cyanogenmod 10.1 It was working fine, but I gave it some thought and decided she would be better off with the stock software, so I followed the instructions here to revert.
However, somewhere in that process I bricked the device. I went through the installing the Amazon software again in TWRP and told the device to reboot, but it is now stuck on the boot screen and will not respond to adb commands I send it.
I used the Kindle Fire Utility to install TWRP again, and it said it was successfully installed. I tried to boot into it through the Kindle Fire Utility menu, but it is still stuck.
It just so happens that I have a fastboot cable for this, so I plugged it in and tried to boot into recovery by issuing
C:\kfu\tools>fastboot oem idme bootmode 5001
It just says:
<waiting for device>
and nothing happens.
I don't know what else to do. I do think this factory cable put me in fastboot mode because the Windows device manager is showing "Android ADB Interface" (which according to Kindle Fire for Beginners is what it is supposed to say if the drivers are good and I am in fastboot mode), but I do not know how else to make use of this.
I am really stuck here, and I hope someone will take the time to help. My sister's birthday is in two days and I need to get this Kindle fixed and in the mail

OK. So lets cover the basics.

Once that is done, reboot into recovery and wipe every things. (sorry, we're going to start you from fresh start)
I'm going to suggest you try to install this ROM

The reason being that this one will give you the option to also wipe a few other places (including boot)
Now assuming you still want to keep with stock

Thank you for your reply! I ran the Kindle Fire unbrick tool with the option "Stuck at logo," and it said "Congratulations, your Kindle should be unbricked. However, nothing had changed. So I ran it with the option "Other . . ." It said:

The unbrick program didn't work. It just stayed there t <waiting for device>. How can I use the fastboot cable to fix it?

I had the same problem before. It always says no device found. I tried different PC, finally in my XP PC it is detected and new ROM flashed in

I was thinking the same thing. Unfortunately I don't have another PC running Windows. All my others are running Linux, and I don't know how to get the drivers working.
I think I will borrow a laptop from a friend tomorrow and see if it works. It is my sister's 17th birthday today and her present is late!
In the meantime, though, does anyone know how I am supposed to use this fastboot cable? I have looked around and I see a lot of tutorials about how to unbrick without a fastboot cable, but none saying how to do it WITH one. I thought the cable was supposed to make it easier?

First of all, Happy Birthday to your sister!
I think you may need install the firefirefire utility first to help you out of bootmode sucking. After you successfully reinstall the TWRP using unbrick utility, you need change the fastboot mode to normal boot, the firefirefire can help you choose,

I'd say you didn't read the previous posts.

Well, now the Kindle Fire is no longer being recognized by my computers. I borrowed another Windows computer like I said I would, but when I plug in the Kindle, the Device Manger does not even register it. Also, usually when I plug it in, the computer will realize I have plugged in a usb device and respond with that little pop up at the task bar, i.e. to let me know it sees a usb device and is trying to install driver, was not able to install drivers, or whatever. But now nothing. The computer doesn't even see it.
I have tried it on two different computers with three different cables and it's the same thing. I have restarted the computer and reinstalled the drivers over and over again and there is no difference. What is going on? It was seeing the Kindle fine before I tried the Unbricking Utility.

I'm assuming you know for sure this was a 1st Generation Kindle, right?
I had this problem once and basically formatted my computer. The driver was the issue and I couldn't uninstall it completely. Using my drivers solved this. I get the feeling you're still trying to use the drivers that came with the utility (don't they're often trouble)
However, assuming you are using the correct drivers (the ones I linked for you).... Boot into TWRP and wipe everything. Don't just use the general, click the advance options and wipe everything (selecting all options manually).
No connect your Kindle and don't worry about it not showing up yet....
Mount your SSD (should suddenly find your kindle) and upload this ROM

Now if you can't even load TWRP (when you turn on the Kindle, you'll need to hold the power button to bring up the menu, then quickly hit it a few times until its on recovery).... But if you can't load TWRP at all, its time to get a factory cable.

So i waited then 10 minutes later i decided to turn it off and turn it back on to fix it, when it started to boot up it showed the Cm logo just like as if it was running Cm12. So i waited, maybe 5 min at the most and it still would not turn on. So i turned it off, went online to see ho to get out of a bootloop. Rootjunky said to Turn your Kindle off and run ADB and Fastboot as a command from where you installed your drivers. Then he said he said to enter Recovery mode by pressing vol down and the power button. It is suppose'd to say Recovery-Mode in the corner but it just kept showing the Amazon logo. Im worried i screwed up and broke my new tablet, i can't return it because it's against Amazon's policy to root or mod any content of Amazon's, Plus ADB isn't working i can only access fastboot. KFU bricked my Kindle

I have read to a nausea thread after thread about fixing my bricked Kindle, unfortunately I cannot post in the development section since I am a big NOOB. I'm sure most have heard this a million times, and have read about it a million times but have I still have not a clue how to go about it.
If anyone can help it would be greatly appreciated.
So story is downloaded KFU, installed drivers via KFU, plugged in Kindle, started option 2(ROOT w/ SU), it chugged away snagged at install FFFing, so I thought okay let me unplug and re do it, but now it is stuck at KF logo white/orange which many of you say is in fastboot mode. I cannot get the computer to recognize when connected, usually you hear a audible tone when connecting via usb, but nothing. Have tried reinstalling drivers again but they show they have already been installed. People say unistall but I cannot find the device to uninstall the drivers!! I have tried the unbrick util, but KF does not show nor on KFU. Thus I think Soupkit would be the same if it cannot see that KF is connected.
Another q, is even if I get it unbricked and use KFU will it still hang at FFF again...is it just dependent on computer or something, I don't understand why it works for some and not for others(causing them to use linux instead of windows?)

You can still reboot to normal mode. Load KFU, and press 1, and then enter, and then 1 and then enter. This should reboot the kindle EVEN if it says its offline in KFU.
If that doesnt work, turn off the kindle, and as soon as you turn it back on, press 1 enter 1 enter in KFU.
Both these methods worked for me... but my KFU still hangs every time it enters fastbootmode!

first of all lets get this straight. KFU did not (what you call bricking) brick it. you did by taking on the challenge.
second does device manager show up with anything when you plug it in?

Thanks for the replies guys, I tried the first solution of using KFU and option 1, however it just hangs and just says waiting for device/device not found. Goldflame you are correct, I did it myself, no one forced me LOL. The device does not show up when I plug it in. If I power down(hold power down for 15secs, and then plug it in the KF logo comes back up but remains nonresponsive.) Seems the computer doesn't know its connected so the two cannot communicate. I've installed drivers so don't know what the problem is, tried different usb ports as well. I am also using a non factory micro cable, IDK if that matters or not read other people ordering factory ones to help them.

ok well this is different from my case where it showed up as an unknown device in device manager. reboot your computer without the kindl plugged in and let me know if anything different happens when you plug in your kindle

I have no guarantee that it will work but try to delete your .android folder.
Its located in c:/users/your user name/.android
Then plug in your kindle, open kfu and choose option 2 even if it says device offline

TY you for being so responsive goldflame, but I have already done that as well...I researched quite bit before posting this..as I didn't wanna be "that" person. Still nothing works does anyone have anymore solutions for me?
