Both the arc s and U have faster processors though. Surely, they'd be a better option?

Compare arc S to U.... U wins by miles. It has a lot faster processor and a lot faster GPU.
Compare One V to arc S - One V wins by miles. One V has beautiful display + decent processor (it is 1ghz but in reality, it was underclocked by htc from 1.4 to 1ghz because of the casing).
Compare One V to U - Xperia U wins by miles IF you are interested only in playing games, running apps faster and you are not interested in any kind of deving, not even root.
Xperia comes with a powerful GPU, the MALI 400 - the one that you can find in Galaxy S2, and a dual core processor Cortex A9 - 1ghz - again - the same processor that comes with Galaxy S2.
So IF you want only playing games, multimedia and such... 100% go for Xperia U.
Have a nice day!

That's a very informtive response and i thank you for it but are you sure those are the specs of the xperia U? I think you may have mixed them up with the specs of the xperia P.
Also, woudn't the arc S be superior due to it's faster processor (than the one V). You say it wins by miles but why?

Think I may go for the one V after all. Dont think the others are worth the £80 more or so and they are somewhat past the price range. Thanks for all the help!
Is the one V due an upgrade to jellybean?
Is the One V fast and fluid?
Sent from my ASUS Transformer Pad TF300T using xda app-developers app
no jelly bean
but the developers are going to port soon
and yes its fast.. when rooted.. well i dont actually remember how it was on stock never used it
Sent from my HTC One V
No jellybean confirmed? Would've thought that being a 2012 device, it might.
Sent from my ASUS Transformer Pad TF300T using xda app-developers app
Not confirmed yet no, But like you said, 2012 device, so i would assume a update will come eventually, But after One x and s, so our devs will probally have a aosp/cm Port way before htc releases a crappy sensified version (yes, i Hate sense )

Just curious what you guys think on how our phone stacks up against the s3? I don't really like how big it is, but is it that far off ? The version if the s3 that is sold where I am is dual core, so is there really a big difference ?
Lol its loads faster. Bigger screen. HD display. 2 gigs of ram. Its a win win all around.
Sent from my SGH-I747 using xda premium
I had a 4" screen (Lg g2x) and wanted the bigger screen so my only two phones I would have wanted were the sgs2 and 3 because I previously had a captivate and it was great. I still went with the sgs2 because i just found the screen on the 3 too large for one hand use and wasn't worth the extra money to me.
In my honest opinion, Samsung really banged out a powerhouse in the s3. Bigger super amoled plus display, 2 GB ram, a notification light , and best of all TOUCH WIZ UX. This has amazing built in features such as swipe your palm to take a screen shot, to smart stay, where the phone doesn't turn of when you're looking at it. The international version as well has a quad core processor. Hope this answered your question/ helped in any way
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-T989 using xda premium
Its an all around upgrade in every conceivable way. The t989 is no slouch though. The upgrade isn't necessary unless you want to have the latest. If I could sell this phone and add maybe 100-150$ I'd do it.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-T989 using xda premium
The only thing is that the gs3 has no two-way call recording.
Sent from my SGH-T989 using xda premium
They ran out of the quad core so they replace with dual core.... not worth it.

Lol wut? Where are you getting your info from? The s4, even though its a dual is faster by 20-30%. Cores don't mean anything. Look at the exynos dual core that's about to release.. it puts even the fastest quad cores out to shame.

It's the best phone I ever had.
And I had Dell Strek 5, Mot.Millestone...
Dev on xda constantly making better and better custom roms.
The phone is fast, it has great screen ( on some custom roms - Bravia Engine 2, on stock ICS Bravia Engine 1).
Don't be concerned couse there is no card slot, You'll have enough memory for everything.
I have XS for about 6 months and only I can say - best phone I ever had.
Sorry for my lousy eng.

Funky, are you happy with battery life as well? Because I'm not. I only have this phone for less than a week but already started regreting buying it. Battery life is worst of all smartphones I owned. And yes, I already tried a few custom ROMs.

I use it as a business phone, so I talk whole day, but it could be better...
But, 2 core CPU, big screen and other drain our battery life

Thing is that I owned Samsung Galaxy S2 before. It's 4.3" and dual-core as well. OK, resolution was lower and CPU clocked at 1.2 Ghz, but It can't cause that much of a difference and it lasted till evening of second day without a problem. So battery life of SXS was a shock for me.

Hey guys
So i got Xperia Arc S for less than 1 week
So i wanted to ask
Why does this phone get hot very fast
Why does this phone have low graphics
When i played asphalt 7 on s3 i found it had more graphics than arc s
When i played eternity warriors on s 2 i found the graphics was really better than xperia arc s
So i just want to know is this proplems from my phone or it is with every one
P.S: i am using official ice cream sandwhich 4.0.4

we're not "god damn" obliged to answer you either
1) the graphics aren't "f***ing" bad - it's just that the S3 is newer and much more expensive. for the price we bought our arc at the display is not bad at all actually I dare say its better than over contrasted and over saturated super amoled.
2) you're playing a game of course it will get hot. you mean other phones don't get hot? unless, or course, its very hot even when you leave it on idle.

Get the lt28i for unlocked loader
Sent from my LT28at using xda app-developers app
wait a bit more and see whether jelly bean is good or not, and then decide, although jelly bean for other sony 2012 phones are also somehow buggy
currently, i advice: DON'T BUY IT! unless you are fine with a slow and buggy and battery hungry phone
Battery hungry is an understatement
Sent from my LT28at using xda app-developers app
True, but the big screen is great for videos and gaming. Camera is decent and phone is well built and sturdy. Get the international version for the unlocked bootloader and more custom roms.
Sent from my LT28h using xda app-developers app
Just got it myself. I'm happy. Want my opinion? Just get it.
Sent from my LT28i using xda app-developers app
If you want custom or modded ROMs, you should buy Xperia S, SP. Or if you want a phone with better specs buy the Ion or Acro S.
Maybe you can take a look at HTC One S? It has got some decent specs. It has only 16 Gb inbuilt memory though and there is no MicroSD slot, but as you come from Xperia U, I think that it may be enough for you.
Sent from my LT26i using xda app-developers app
I really like my Ion, for the price it is amazing really. Even if you're stuck with 4.1, I think it's worth it. Or you could save up longer and get something with longer support.
Sent from my LT28at using Tapatalk 4 Beta
Get SP, Ion is getting outdated for now.
Actually SP I can't pay that much. In my country which is India price difference is there a lot between two. I would had gone for SL but it has 26 gb storage with no memory card slot, As for one S it's spec aren't as good as Ion.

The ion is a great phone, if you can unlock you bootloader. I like my ion but with an unlockable bootloader I'm just bored as hell. For me, my future phone choice will come down to bootloader status as much as specs.
Having high end components but not be able to do anything with them is pointless.

It's up to u,if u care about the size of screen, u can choose it but jelly bean update for ion not yet released by xperia.
Ion has got micro HDMI on the same side as the usb (useful for doking it) and micro SD card for more MP3 and video.

Well, if you're talking about display, camera and other features, then yes. However, performance of the One S is much better because of the Krait processor and Andreno 225 GPU.

Don't bother with the HTC one s unless you want to be part of the disgusting home button bug. It's annoying and hardware fault. I WAS gonna get that phone to. Google search and YouTube that bug before considering that phone.
Sent from my LT28i using xda app-developers app
thanks for all your replies..the only thing thats holding me back now after seeing all views is limited development for Ion.
Dude, get it.
It's a beautiful phone and since ur getting it in India the bootloader will be unlockable.
As far as development is concerned, yes ion has a very less choice.. But devs have brought the major roms cm, pa and slimbean also better stock kernels.... As far as other mods are concerned most of the xperia s ones are usable, like u had in xperia p, u and go.
Oh and the screen is awesome.
