[Q] Am I screwed? - Verizon Droid Incredible 2

I was trying to get my INC2 from CM7 to the unofficial CM9 build, and in the process realized I couldn't because I was S-ON from way back when I HTCdev'ed. I also realized that my bootloader being unlocked was keeping me from being able to successfully downgrade to get S-OFF. I then relocked my bootloader using HTCsupertoolV3, but the last ROM I had run before doing so was the CM9 build that wasn't booting due to my being S-ON.
Now I'm at the white bootloader screen, with "S-ON", "RELOCKED", no working ROM currently installed, and I'm assuming I no longer have CWM recovery available either, due to its not being on the bootloader screen now that I'm relocked.
Is there some way to mount via USB and use ADB, or am I screwed??

You'd have to get back to hboot obviously, but I think you'd be fine.

And how do I do that?! I'm not a total noob, but I've never been in this situation before. Will I need to flash a new recovery? Can I do that on a locked bootloader with S-ON?

If you relocked it, you should be able to downgrade and s-off. Now, to get to hboot/fastboot just power the phone down (for you battery pull) and hold down the volume down and power simultaneously. When the white screen comes up, you're in hboot. That's all I can think of. Past that, Idk what to tell you.

That's what I was thinking, but it appears the phone doesn't (or can't) mount in HBOOT. In my CMD prompt, ADB doesn't detect any devices. Is there a certain part of HBOOT I have to go to to get it to pick the phone up? (I'm seeing "FASTBOOT USB" in red up top)

You have to go to the tools folder of the android sdk and type fastboot devices. If you want to use adb devices, use power to select bootloader, then scroll down one and select recovery.

That's the issue: when I hit "recovery", it just reboots into the white hboot screen again. I don't think CWM is on here anymore (or I just can't access it from hboot). Do I need to somehow flash CWM again (through fastboot) in order to get anywhere?

Use fastboot to rewrite recovery. Then try to adb after mounting USB in recovery. You should be good to go.
**edit. You may have a recovery img on your SD card. If not download Evans.

Problem solved. I flashed CWM via fastboot and flashed ICS using the alternate, S-ON method. In typical noob fashion, this was apparently an option from the get-go, before I ever relocked
Seeing as I'm on a Mac, and my VMWare Fusion doesn't seem downgrade-friendly, I'll probably stick to the alternate flashing method and stay S-ON until an easier method than downgrading comes along. I'm just happy to have ICS!

Did you try to get the *nix binary to work?
Just boot up a *nix disk then just download revolutionary into ram.

Assuming you have a way to get the file onto your sdcard (like plugging it directly into your computer), you can flash the recover image from hboot. I am not sure where you can get the plane jane clockwork recovery, but you can get the slightly modified clockwork recovery with easy scrolling enabled from the thread linked below. That should at least get you up and running again and then you can flash back the regular CW Recovery from Rom Manager if you don't like the easy scroll version.
Instructions for flashing from hboot are also in the thread.

I saw it but was guessing he meant s-off because of the way he said it. Hopefully unrevoked worked for him then as I don't think you have to have s-off for it to work.
Other option would be to flash a stock RUU from hboot. That should work even if he is s-on.

Either way. He's got hboot, which means its not a brick
to the OP
If nothing else works,
I agree with sdorn. RUU is the way.
Thats what will fix your issues.
If you cant get to recovery and you have S-on, meaning that you cannot flash a custom recovery, your only option is to RUU. There is a link in android development. You will need a windows computer. Try this and report back. If it doesnt work and gives you a USB error, simply: 1. Exit the ruu program (KEEP YOUR PHONE PLUGGED IN), and 2. Run it again.
Boom, no more brick
but, hours worth of retweaking.
You could also try to run a update.zip of the OTA. Here is the url to download it.

This update there is no need to have s-off, you can do out with s-on. It is the official ota update from verizon. Just download it, put out on the your of your sd card, then power phone up while holding the power button and volume down button. It should recognoize the file and ask you if you want to install. This is easier than the RUU and just as effective.

He can't get into recovery, so he can't apply the update. He's got to ruu.
1. Download the update.zip file from here. (DIRECT FROM GOOGLE.)
2. Drop the file on the root of your SD card. (Meaning, don’t put it in any folder.)
*MAKE SURE IT’S NAMED UPDATE.ZIP!
3. Turn your phone off.
4. Press and hold the Volume Down and Power at the same time to boot into HBOOT.
5. When the white HBOOT screen appears, use the volume button to move down to “RECOVERY.”
6. Press the Power button to select “RECOVERY.”
7. When the triangle and exclamation appears, hold the Volume Up and Power button at the same time.
8. Using the volume button, scroll down to “apply sdcard:update.zip” and select it.
9. Your phone will now update!
10. It could take some time, so be patient. When it reboots, you are on official 2.2. Yay!

Follow above posters to RUU to 2.2 stock.
UnRevoked 3.2 will give you root and CWM.

[Q] Trouble returning to stock

I am trying to return my father's evo to stock. It was rooted with CM7 stable on it. I have run through the RUU method but when the phone restarts it boots and then when the lock screen is unlocked the phone just restarts.
I have used the most current RUU, the first one list and a couple others. I have also tried placing the PC36img file and letting that update but upon restarting it just vibrates 5 times.
Well what hboot is he on? You need to use the correct firmware for the hboot.
2.10 = 3.70 and 2.16 = 4.24

Help! Stuck at htc logo

Corrupted HBOOT?

Yes you can flash hboots thru your current hboot as a PB31IMG.zip. You can get the hboots here http://dinc.does-it.net/Hboots/. However i dont think thats going to fix your problem, it sounds like you may have the wrong version of cwm installed. What version are you currently on and is your screen amoled or slcd?
Not sure if this matters but they have an unlocked hboot as per their other thread.
Edit: disregard my previous RUU comment.

Oh, if your on the new hboot there is no way to downgrade it. So you would have to try to reflash the new hboot again.
Understood. How will that affect S-ON vs off and the unlocked bootloader?
Also, how can I re-flash to the newest HBOOT as you suggest?

If you are s-off you will stay s-off. If your s-on you will stay s-on and can root with my tutorial. Even with an unlocked bootloader it will still say s-on or off. I do not have an hboot only image in hand, when i get to my pc i will make one. Or you could just do the ruu from the htvdev unlock site. That will reflash the hboot and the entire system.
EDIT: Here is a PB31IMG.zip of hboot 1.02, http://dinc.does-it.net/Hboots/Hboot_1.02/PB31IMG.zip. Place the file on your sdcard in no folders, boot into hboot and it should automaticly find the file and prompt you to press vol up to update.

Tested Recovery and Clear Storage, same story. Take that back. Clear storage seems to be working, Recovery is not. Recovery hangs on the black screen with white stripes on either side. CWM corrupt?
Can't get to RECOVERY. I can get it to boot into HBOOT, as soon as I select anything else it goes to the black screen. First shows the white HTC Incredible screen, then it goes black. Seems like it errors out because the white stripes look like the edges of the prior white screen. Can I use adb to push recovery straight to the first HBOOT screen?
Edit: force HBOOT into FASTBOOT from adb I mean, and then kick of the recovery from there?

I was actually wondering about this. Sorry to sidetrack but know if it can do fastboot erase or fastboot flash? If so I want to get it setup on my Dinc to simplify kernel testing. I assume eng or unlocked bootloader are needed so I'd have to update to 1.02, still have s-off and then use the website to unlock.

So you cant select fastboot from the hboit menu either? The only other way i know but not sure if it would work for you is to try to boot normaly and when it gets to the white screen where it gets stuck keep trying to enter adb reboot bootloader and see if it will connect. If it works it will take you to hboot with fastboot usb already enabled.
I can get to FASTBOOT from HBOOT.
So, get to FASTBOOT and then, in adb... I can make the logical jump that far, I'm not making the connection after that though.

If you can get to fastboot then do this
Download cwm recovery.img http://dinc.does-it.net/Guide_Root_New_Hboot/recovery.img and place it on your pc in the same folder as the fastboot.exe file.
Open a cmd prompt on your pc while in hboot with fastboot selected and then type " fastboot flash recovery recovery.img ".
Ps your hboot does still say unlocked at the top right?
Never mind. Pushed recovery. Rebooting now.
Edit: beautiful!! got it. Thank you, AGAIN, for all the help. XDA community in general, and especially cmlusco!
Just confirmed I can flash with fastboot with the unlocked 1.02 bootloader. I got the 5 vibes and got scared but I'm all good. Good thing the inc is not the active phone.

Yes it seems with 1.02 you get all the extended commands. I do have the 0.77 eng bootloader, which allows the same commands. I dont think you can downgrade from 1.02 now, even with s-off i may be wrong. I have been reluctant to upgrade to 1.02, not sure why, and instead just flash back to the eng hboot if i need the extended commands. Hope you get the 5 vibes worked out.

I was good on that after a battery pull. Should be able to sowngradw. As boot loader is unlocked.

Look at you with your fancy phone without spell check.
I also upgraded mine (just did the PB31IMG.zip through HBOOT), and I luckily did not get the 5 vibes.

Ha. I saw the typo and didn't want to bother fixing it.
Just curious if you did an unlock and flashed the stock recovery prior. If you didn't unlock (wipes data) then you don't have to mess with recovery.

Nope, just flashed it in HBOOT, and rebooted back to HBOOT to verify it took.

New Verizon HTC one S-off but can not access recovery

I just got an HTC one from Best Buy Mobile (Verizon) yesterday. Turned S-Off using runrunner. Verified root but can not access recovery. I had the same issue with a S4 but it was a known issue for all that has updated to the 4.3.
I have tried all the suggestions in flashing TWRP. I am wondering if this is a Verizon related issue? Maybe they are putting something on their phones to prevent recovery?
HELP!!!!
Something is really jacked up with my phone. It kept saying Unfortunately Amazon has stopped. Over and over again. So I gave up and went to do a factory restore and data wipe. I first went to Super user and removed permanent root. I then tried to do a factory wipe through settings/backup & reset reset phone. It still gave me issues trying to enter recovery mode. It would get hung up and then reboot to a sort of safe mode version of the OS. (with a red disclaimer at the bottom). Then I tried to do factory reset by holding the volume down and power. Its doing the same thing. At this point I don't are about root I just want a working phone.
Any suggestions?
Flash twrp from the xda thread here and then flash arom. What exactly are you doing to flash it?

I have tried flashing a recovery. Now I dont have root and cant do anything. It will not let me even upgrade firmware. I tried to get it back to stock. My recovery is jacked up.

OK, so you are s-ff, is your bootloader unlocked?
IF you are not on stock recovery YOU CANNOT run an update
I'm s-off bootloader unlocked. I have no recovery. Not even stock.

.. you have to have a recovery..
I think?
can you successfully fastboot flash a custom recovery? If not can you fastboot the stock recovery..?
To be completely honest, I would just run the RUU. should fix you right up
You could boot into RUU and flash the decrypted stock rom zip to get back to straight stock. The zip reflashes stock recovery. I don't see why that wouldn't work.
Edit: Oops. Didn't even notice andy just recommended the same thing lol. My fault.

Thats odd, i thought you had to have a recovery of some kind.
Here is what I would do:
Lets try Flashing CWM instead of TWRP in fastboot I will post it, and I will also post the stock recovery there to as well.
https://www.dropbox.com/s/kk2esdrx1g1b50p/recovery-clockwork-touch-6.0.4.5-m7vzw.img
the image is easily installed via an unlocked bootloader with the following command:
fastboot flash recovery imagename.img
in this case: fastboot flash recovery recovery-clockwork-touch-6.0.4.5-m7vzw.img
See if it actually takes, and report back any errors.
If for some reason it does not, try booting into bootloader/fastboot then push the stock recovery:
https://www.dropbox.com/s/hgzgq84svzahvnv/htconerecovery_signed.img
Hopefully that will at least take and try to push CWM again , reboot bootloader and reboot into recovery . I am hoping that does it for you.
Go here: http://download.chainfire.eu/370/SuperSU/UPDATE-SuperSU-v1.80.zip and dump SU on the root of your SD card and flash the SU.
I have seen people have all kind of weird issues with rum runner and I am just glad i had the official java card method used on mine. I also tend to just use a stock ROM which is just de-bloated.
Anyways I have used Santod040 roms in case i need to go back to pure stock ROM only: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2485319
You will need the odex one to run any OTA
The firmware is a different thing to flash.

Thanks guys!
I was able to install TWRP and also Superuser.
Here are the instructions I used. Maybe they will help someone else like me.
Power off your device, then press and hold Power and Volume Down until you're in the bootloader menu. Highlight FASTBOOT and press Power. You should see Fastboot USB highlighted in red.
Download the latest version of TWRP for your phone and carrier. Rename file to twrp.img.
Open a command prompt on your computer and navigate to your SDK directory. Type "fastboot flash recovery twrp.img" and hit Enter.
Then I backed up my stock rom using TWRP
In TWRP's main menu, tap Reboot. It will tell you that you're not rooted and ask you to install SuperSU, so swipe to confirm. When you reboot your phone, you should see a notification that you need to install the SuperSU app. Open the notification and select TWRP, since the app from Google Play only works with S-OFF.
Worked flawlessly.
I installed NuSenseONE max and I love it so far.

how else were you trying to flash a recovery ?!?
Goo.im app as well as ROM Manager, ROM Toolbox can flash recoveries. I've notice there isn't much compatibility with the m7vzw though. You can also use terminal command's from the device. All of these require root access though.

Hey everyone, so my problem is that i did run rumrummer the way it said on the directions and i double checked my rom version type countless times. It says that i am unlocked and s-off, but i cant access recovery. I tried flashing recovery with fastboot command prompt, and still no luck. It gives me a "error: cannot open 'open.img', I navigated to the folder that it is located in and executed the command properly every time. I also dont know how to flash superuser using flashboot, so any help will be very much appreciated. Also I'm kinda new to rooted, I have some experience from a few years back, but dont remember everything.

place the name.img file in the same folder as the adb and fastboot executables, open command prompt as administrator for that directory, then type "fastboot flash recovery name.img" substitute name.img for the actual name of the file including extension and make sure there are no quotes around it. also, use "fastboot devices" or "adb devices" to make sure your phone is being recognized.
I got it to work, finally. Thanks for the reply pointedge. I beat u to it earlier in the day and forgot to post up again that I got it. It was like u said, I just had the file in the wrong folder.

I'm willing to bet he flashed the wrong recovery. It's happened to a lot of people.
