OKies... bought a HD2 not long ago but found myself missing Android so (had a Hero b4 the HD2) much i bought a Desire on ebay
As far as i can tell its a standard T mobile uk phone... so i assume locked and branded to T mobile
I dont need it unlocking to other networks as im hapy with t mobile.. but would like to maybe upgrade to a new or modded rom...
Do i need to Root it b4 i can use the modded roms? i had a quick look at the bootloader page ( i think thats it) and it was showing 0.75
So im after the most painless way to get a good rom upgrade
new at all this so the easier and simpler the better.... flashing my phones scare the living crap outta me..!! lol
thanks for any help
Dont be scared its not bad at all!
I had a similar question 2 days ago and am now running froyo (thanks to my own help really though)
Here is my thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=748105
I just rooted my cdma desire and would like to know if anyone will be wokring on a rom for my phone
How did you do that? Unrevoked 3.2 Isn't out yet is it
Look at their twitter. They tell you how to get a test version.
Sent from my USCC HTC Desire using the XDA App
thats for the heads up. rooted now also.. need a 2.2 now. lol
im wondering how similar the desire is to the incredible or the evo.. i wonder if it could run some of their roms?
the inc is very similar. and would prob work. if it has slcd support. i dunno though. risky. although one should be able to restore a backup
Now someone just has to get the courage up to do it.

Just to let you know
I've rooted my cdma desire and I've tried flashing a couple gsm roms. None of which would boot. If you try flashing any roms on your own make 100% sure you have a backup made because you will end up with a semi-brick and I'm sure nobody here wants to hear you whine about what's a recovery menu.
I've been thinking about making a ROM but I have zero experience. I'm doing a lot of reading but if there are any developers who want to work on a rom, that would be awesome.
i made one with some tweaks that works also i am working on porting a froyo version

they are almost identical but for some reason the wifi and bluethooth would not work on a inc rom that i ported even though they are the same chip
I recently got my desire CDMA rooted also, but i used to hangout over in the G1 forum so i kinda know my way around android & root. let me know if i can help with anything. my twitters @BuddhaTeh1337
You can find some CDMA roms here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=10469759&postcount=2. Happy flashing !
Hello,
I've been having my HTC HD2 for almost a year now (with the factory based Windows 6.0) still. I'm very bored of it, and it's a extremely boring OS to have, so I'm looking very forward to upgrading it to Android Gingerbread 2.3.3 or 2.3.4!
So what I'm a little curious about Is: Since I'm not done with the subscription fees and end the subscription (I've got 2 months left or so), can It get any messy or problematic to change OS? Or would this not matter? I'm very glad for any decent answer and help I could get, and It would be very much appreciated.
Also, If anyone has the HD2 and Android? Any preferences, and are you happy with it? Glitches, bugs? And which rom is the best alternative?
Sorry for maybe a little bad english. Sorry for some "noob" questions as well, as I'm pretty new into this.
Thanks alot,
Regards
My brother has Gingerbread 2.2 software and he has no problems. It basically works like an HTC android phone should work.

You made a minor error. Gingerbread is not 2.2. It's 2.3 - 2.3.5.

1. Yes. Changing the OS can get very problematic and possibly brick your device if not done correctly.
2. It would matter depending on your point of view. If you're someone who would have not problems experimenting and easily able to replace the device (if anything went wrong), then no. If you're someone who is the opposite, then yes.
3. Yes. Very happy. You could say that it is 100% better (possibly more) than Windows Mobile being on it.
4. There aren't any glitches or bugs on the recently developed/stable builds. It feels basically like a brand new, official android device.
5. No answer. This is based upon preferences.
Thank you!
I'm pretty new into this, so not sure what to do. Try to figure it out, and try installing it.
But thanks alot for the clear up. The installation part with all the things seems pretty advanced to me, unfortunately!
looking for the way to switch my htcdd2 to android. Was told it uses the same as the evo.better yet can I pay someone to do it?

Yes you can pay someone to do it if you can't be bothered/don't have the time to do it yourself. Whoever told you that it uses the same rom as the EVO is completely wrong. NO DEVICE USES THE SAME ROM AS ANOTHER. If you tried this, you WILL end up bricking your device.

An excellent step by step guide to guide you through the process of can be found here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=11215136&postcount=8 . Good luck .
Dear Experts,
I have recently got an Preowned Unlocked - Vision/Desire Z, however prior to purchase I was said that its an HTC Desire Z, but one fine morning when I was trying to transfer some files via BT, the scanned resulted in HTC VISION. Well, I hope u can imagine my situation - Yes I was totally blank...
After that I googled alot for getting the correct configuration of my Handset but finally am posting it here for your advise.
Pl. somebody guide me How to check/ensure that what is the configuration of my phone. Ok let me tell you that I have tried Setting>About Phone>, it says software version is Android 2.2.1, buts its on showing the RAM CAPACITY.
Pl. guide.
Peace
Karan Adhikari
"Vision" is the HTC codename for the device. It was announced and sold in the USA as the "T-mobile G2" and sold everywhere else in the world as the "HTC Desire Z".
It is just one device. On the forums it is regularly referred to as the Vision because most mods/ROMs can be used on either the DZ or the G2, and there's no need to specify between the two.
Thank alot
Sir, Now as per your info, will it be ok if I assume & claim that mine is DZ ? What about when its scanned thru bluetooth, it says HTC Vision. How do I check its Ram & Internal Memory capacity?
Your Inputs are appreciated Sir.
Thanks once again.
Peace

Yes your device is a Desire Z (Unless it has T-Mobile written above the screen instead of HTC)
For checking internal storage, you can go to settings, and select Storage from there, the total and available will be listed.
The Vision has 512mb of RAM, but some of that is taken up by the Android system/kernel, so you may see apps/settings reporting it as having a lot less total (mine shows 367mb)
You can find more info here

I am Convinenced
Thanks Mr.Nipqer, yes there HTC embrossed on the Top of the screen & not TMobile.
Ok. Now are there any optimised Radio settings recommended as I shall be using it in India, so that it can save the Battery. I am on Vodafone's Network. Another thing Will you advise me to Update the ROM from the one stocked Froyo 2.2.1 to Gingerbird 2.3.3?
If yes then which ROM will be the BESTEST one? Will it effect the overall performance of by HTC DZ/Vision?
Finally, pl suggest some link where I can find a Layman's Tutorial to Flash it with an updated ROM.
Peace
Karan Adhikari
For Radios, I would only play with them if you have really poor battery or signal.
There is no answer for which is the 'best' radio, it really seems to be up to the phone itself.
Don't get the official update to gingerbread, as it makes it a bit harder to root.
For a rooting guide I recommend the XDA Wiki or if that seems a bit complex, use the Cyanogenmod Wiki
if you get stuck, jump into the #G2ROOT irc channel on freenode
For a rom, I'd recommend Cyangenmod, or if you want to stick with a sense rom, use Virtuous Sense
-Nipqer
Thanks alot
I thank you for all your information. Mr.Nipqer, will recall back if I am stucked somewhere.
Peace
Karan Adhikari
All Desire Z's are Visions, but not all Visions are Desire Z's
For a rom, I'd recommend Cyangenmod

have to disagree here, this ROM has a lot of issues, including GPS, wifi-calling, and too many other glitches
I have had great luck with the rmk G-lite ROM's, they are basically stock Gingerbread with mild overclocking and all of the fluff gotten rid of
these ROM have the best battery life of any ROM, and the main thing I like most about them is that they WORK WITHOUT ISSUES
Well each to their own.
I don't find I have any GPS issues with Cyanogenmod, and I never use wifi calling as I'm not in the states.
If you have GPS issues, maybe you should look into wiping your efs data?

So I bought my gf a one v and she loves it. One month after using it (stock, unrooted) it just went dead. Doesn't charge and doesn't get into bootloader (but not the QHSUSB_DLOAD and Blank Screen issue). Guy at repair told me that this was an issue with the ICS kernel causing a hard brick. Now, I naturally sent phone for repair since it is a warranty case. So far so good, lets just hope they get it done fast.
My question is though: should I root device and flash another ROM with presumably no such issues so I can avoid a future brick? I mean, I'm using a rooted desire and have no issues for over 2 years, now just didn't want to mess with the new phone of my gf and thought 'hey, lets keep it stock'... But the thought that it would die again after having it repaired is really discouraging. My gf is kind of frustraded and I don't want this to happen again. But are there such issues with custom ROMs for the One V? Like I said, I'm using the good old desire and don't know much about the one v, so I would really apreciate if you can tell me - because if such an issue is possible on custom roms, there is no point to bother flashing and voiding warranty.
Thanks for your time guys!
Well at the moment we have only modified stock ROM for this device and one custom kernel (in beta state) which is still an ICS kernel.
However you''ll never know whether this happens again or not. But one thing you can know for sure is that if you unlock the bootloader and install a custom kernel and ROM and it happens again then your are screwed because you lost your warranty.
Maybe you should wait a bit for some stable custom rom. Because an unstable and buggy ROM would make your gf even more frustrated and andgry
Oh well, thanks for the insight my friend..So, If I got this right, if I root and flash one of the current roms and it bricks again, I will still not be able to acces bootloader? And is this really a kernel issue with ICS? I'm willing to even flash a GB rom, if it is possible, in order to avoid this...gf won't mind for sure lol, if this delivers a stable phone in the future
P.S. Does this even happen with other ICS roms/on other stock ICS devices? Or did HTC just screw up on this one? I can understand a phone bricking when changing hboots or other tinkering, but just dieing like that is pretty damn stupid. And from what I read it happens to quite a few other one v users...Hope noone of you guys gets to experience this crap

1. In no other galaxy, no other planet... IT IS NOT A KERNEL FAULT! it may at well be a piece of poorly made phone. you should get another one from the warranty. I can 100% say that you will not have any problems. The kernel doesn't suddenly causes hard brick to your phone. If it does, do you know how many phones running ICS are there? Or One V's...
I have flashed alpha/beta/final kernels/roms for millions of times, no problems whatsoever.
in no way this is a kernel/soft problem. more likely the flash drive from your gf's phone, died!

Thx dude, I was sort of wondering how this could really be a kernel problem, since the guy over at the repair told me so - 'Its a kernel issue with ICS'... well, I hope he was really wrong and the device we receive (hopefully soon) will be proper

That guy should really make his homework. In no way a kernel can brick the phone. If this was true, the phone will not boot and work for weeks in the first place. Its not like the kernel has a "time-bomb" inside and it triggers when it is set.
As I said, it is a phone problem, something hardware has failed.
Hopefully it will be fixed for you gf and she will not have any problems in the future.
It happens in India too
My htc one v got bricked suddenly while using it. Forums at internet says it happens if battery charge goes below certain limit. Mine it went down to 24%
It happened to me when my battery level was 14%. now I have to pay 200$ for repairs. (because I live in Iran.)
