Google Voice Won't Make Calls - Samsung Galaxy Nexus

I just signed up for Google Voice and I'm a little confused as to how it works. Texting works just fine and sends from my Google number and if I call my Google number it forwards to my phone fine too.
My question is about outgoing calls. I set it to ask me every time and then to only use Google Voice for calls but no matter what I do, when I go to make a call using the regular dialer like it says, it just uses my regular Verizon number. Is it possible to use my Google Voice number for outgoing calls and does this not use my Verizon minutes?

Yes its definitely possible when the settings in GV are correct (sounds like they are). Verizon ppl should chime in here, but I think you have to set up some call forwarding settings in order to get it to work properly with the VZW network.
It works perfect on my GSM model (and T-Mobile), but I haven't heard any issues about it not working on those.

I make calls from my Google Voice all the time. I did not really do anything to set it up besides install the app on my phone. Of course I went through all the setup online, but I don't think that would matter. When I had my Nexus One some custom ROM's would require you to enable some kind of 3rd party dialing, but I have not seen that with my Galaxy Nexus. Google Voice Question

Currently I have a google voice number and a regular Sprint number, I know when you create your google voice number you can do the integration where Google will use your current Sprint number, which sounds cool in theory, but I heard a lot of issues with doing this, the main one, not getting MMS anymore, and some missed VMs etc...
My question is, when I install the Google Voice app on the phone there is some option asking about integration, from the sounds of it, it seems like this is different than Google taking over your current number. Ideally what I want is to still have two different numbers, but I would like my Sprint number -and- my Google Voice number to both use the Google Voice Voicemail service. This is to work around some AOKP / AOSP issues with Sprint Visual Voicemail app that I've had.
So is this possible? Is this what that install option on the phone does? Once I do the integration can you unlink it?
I'm not sure about the setup you desire, but I think for Google Voice to handle voicemail for your Sprint number, you are going to need to do the integration.
I integrated shortly after the option became available. Google Voice itself will not handle MMS messages, but you will still receive them on the phone -- just not in the GV app. That works fine for me. I haven't had any issues with missing voicemails or otherwise.
Once you do the integration, you have a period of time to decide whether to keep it or not. After that time expires, your old Google Voice number is removed. I think that's 90 days.

Yes it is and this is my setup. Install the app and when you are setting it up it will ask you if you want to integrate, you will press next if so. If not and just want the regular google voice setup just press skip. Do this, press skip. Then link your google account, setup which calls you want google voice to handle and then finish..you're done.
Thanks ... I set it up and deleted the Sprint VVM app, don't have a way to test it though, tried calling my phone with google voice, but the phone doesn't ring, I'm guessing that's because I'm trying to call the phone GV is set to forward too... Oh well, looks like I'll just wait till someone calls

You should be able to call your cell # from your gv # even if the cell is set up as the forward # for GV...I do it all the time...
Just did it from the gmail dialer...

Yea tried that, for some reason the phone never rings when I call myself via chrome Google voice on the PC, txts do go through however, odd

You actually want to SKIP integration.
I have mine setup so that you can call my google voice # or Sprint # and both ring on my phone.
If you integrate (during the app setup) you turn your Sprint number into your GV #.
To fix this you need to login to google voice and there is a setting to (basically un-link) the GV # from your sprint #.
Uninstall and reinstall the app on the phone, this time skip integration.

That's exactly what I use it for too.... Think I got it all setup, still can't call my sprint number from my google voice number in a browser however, don't know what's up with that, but think everything else is working.

Google Voice Voicemail setup

has anyone been able to setup google voice to handle voicemail on their verizon LG G4? I tried setting it up but it could not configure and I poked around online and found a thread on the verizon forums where people were talking about the same issues.
You have to call and have Verizon activate it. I use it all the time with Verizon and my G4. I used it on my LG G2 also. It is not something that just works out of the box. It is a (paid?) feature.
I know because when I switched from the G2 to the G4, my Visual VM app wasn't working. I had to call Verizon and have them reactivate it before the app would start working.
so i would just tell them i want to use google voice as my VM provider instead of them?
You don't have to call Verizon at all. Simply dial the forwarding numbers.

That's how you set it up. After your phone rings enough times, it will swap over to your Google Voice for voicemail. In your Google Voice settings just have it set to not do anything regarding calls.

so if i have my gv number ringing on my phone now, this method will not work, as it would ring twice right?
I have Google Voice voicemail fully set up. Confirmed working in Hangouts.
Follow the instructions and make sure you expand the section specifically for Verizon subscribers. When you dial each of the three numbers, you'll get a confirmation window on your phone about call forwarding.
As an added bonus, I disabled the visual voicemail app (VVM.apk) using the debloater tool. This way, I don't have to deal with visual voicemail , the standard VZW voicemail, or OTA updates ever again.
Google Voice is working completely for me as well and has been since I received my G4. If you follow the directions that have been posted several times, you'll set it up without issue.
One additional thing I will note is that Google Voice and VoLTE (Advanced Calling) on Verizon don't always play well together. If you're experiencing problems getting Google Voice to stick as your voicemail, turn Advanced Calling off and try setting it up again.

Is it possible to get Google Voice setup to handle voicemail? I've spent a while playing around and searching, but can't seem to get this working. I am on the Verizon version, but not sure if that makes a difference.
I can receive calls from someone dialing my GV number, and if they have called that number and leave a voicemail, they get my GV greeting and I get the vm/notification in the Hangouts app, as I expect. However, if someone calls my carrier number and leaves a vm, I cannot get this to go to my GV at all.
I don't remember having to do much of anything to get this set up on my LG G4. Am I missing something easy here?

I haven't had to do this for quite a while, but this is what I used to do to get Google Voice working on my Verizon phone.
If you are having trouble configuring Google Voice as your voicemail service on Verizon you can
make the switch manually by dialing all three of these activation codes:
*71[Your Google Voice number] This turns on Conditional Forwarding, which should transfer
calls to your Google Voice number*when your Verizon phone is busy or unanswered after 3 to 6
rings.
*90[Your Google Voice number] This turns on Busy Transfer, which transfers all calls that
would hear a busy signal to your Google Voice number.
*92[Your Google Voice number] This turns on No Answer Transfer, which transfers all calls
unanswered after 3 to 6 rings to your Google Voice number.
To Deactivate the Call Forwarding, dial *73 [Send]
To Deactivate the Busy Transfer, dial *900 [Send]
To Deactivate the No Answer Transfer, dial *902 [Send]
**** if calls not ringing to phone, uninstall Google voice, Deactivate all, install and setup Google
voice, setup
forwarding again, test calling phone to make sure it rings and Google voicemail works. ***

*71+GV number did the trick.
I first set all 3 forwardings, and things acted weird. It would forward out to my GV greeting but then cut out part way through. I disabled all and then only enabled using the *71+GV and things are working correctly.

Default dialer and Google Voice do not mingle well

I did a search on the forums and didn't find any relevant threads, so I'm creating this one.
I have my Google Voice app set to show a prompt asking which number I want to use before each call. However, I've noticed that on occasion the call will go through using my carrier line before I even make a selection on the prompt. I tested this further and set Google Voice to always use Google Voice line to make calls, then I made calls to another number I have access to. After several test calls, I found that about half the time, the call still goes through my carrier line. There wasn't any indication on my phone that it was using the carrier line or Google Voice line.
If I use the Google Voice app to make a call, it will always use my Google Voice line, even though it's going through the phone's stock dialer app.
I'm wondering if anyone else has similar issues and what solutions there might be to fix this. I wanted to replace the stock dialer with Google's dialer app and Google Contact app, but it seems that Google's dialer app is not compatible with the Mate SE/7x.
Can anyone think of a solution? I think that by somehow making the stock dialer delay for 2-3 seconds before each call, it would give enough time for Google Voice prompt to show up and freeze the dialer until I make a choice. I'm not sure how to do this, though.
Alternatively, are there any good dialers to replace the stock one?
I am having a similar issue on my Honor 7X and my wife's 6X. GV has been working great for months on both phones. Now (I think we noticed it in late April) when someone calls our Primary Phone # it doesn't get routed to GV Voice Mail, it goes to the Carrier's VM. For my wife, when someone calls her GV # it doesn't ring on her phone and is routed to her carrier VM. When she sets removes her "Linked Number" then calls to her GV # are routed to GVM but do not ring on her phone.
I have tried installing an older version of GV, no luck, and I have since been updated to EMUI 8 (Android 8.0) and I still have the same problem. I'm wondering if it's a carrier issue/change? We use Consumer Cellular (ATT network). When I go into Call Forwarding in Call Options it will not let me set a Call Forwarding number and tells me "Unexpected Network Response."
Hopefully someone will fix this soon. My wife uses her GV# for work.

Now, when I get a call on my GV # and don't answer, the call goes directly to my carrier voicemail w/ no way to fix - I've tried everything. Anyone else? Is this a back-end issue w/ Google?
edit: the verizon call forwarding does work but it forwards all calls to my GV voicemail now w/ no way to seperate between personal and business.

I just popped my sim out of my old phone, put it in the new pixel 3 and installed google voice and I was back up and running, didn't do a thing else. I also use it for my voicemail though, so I actually want the situation in your edit...
Are you somehow forwarding from google voice back to your carrier number? Without any forwarding at all it should behave as 2 totally separate lines, carrier # to carrier voicemail, gv # to gv voicemail, so if gv is going to carrier voicemail then there's something somewhere telling it to... I'm not aware of any backend problems with Google in this stuff, mine seems to be working fine, but you could try their support maybe...

Thanks for chiming in. Yeah I didn't port my number so I have the gv # forwarded to my carrier number. Is there another way to keep them both separate?
I'm not sure, I think just forwarding one to another is the only way to get them commingled like that...
Same issue here. Worked fine for the last 5+ years. As soon as I got the 3 that was the end of that. Can't get it working no matter what I try.
I have the same issue: calls don't ring and go straight to voicemail. Do Not Disturb is off. Verizon is my carrier.
I've used GV for years with several phones: 2XL, Moto X, LG G3.
As an aside, I'm noticing missed notifications using other apps, too. I'm wondering if it has to do with Android 9 notifications?
I ported my number to GV about a year ago. I use it for everything, calls, texting , and voicemail. I knew it was working, but I just tested to double check, and all is well.
