Running on GB EL30 stock.

CM9 B1 and no problems here. Drains more than watching youtube, but that is to be expected.
I'm running AOKP and it drains, and runs the battery pretty hot.

Yeah. It does it on my friends HTC Vivid. It killed 20% in like 8 minutes and the phone got super hot.

That does that with every game of you play it for to long

i think it has something to do with the fact that angry birds space uses the gps!
(why it does this is beyond me)
but if you block it from having access to the gps you'll notice the drain is lower as are the temps.
how do you prevent it from accessing the gps?
Edit: Nevermind, I didn't bother reading the thread on LBE Privacy Guard. I thought it was another useless antivirus thing.

How are you blocking gps. I use droidwall in white list mode & only let things online that need to be online online.
I think the gps crap is for ad targeting. Its really bs if u ask me. why can't they just use ip goelocation? I mean if xbmc can find the weather in my small town from the isp ip then why can't google ads wtf google

I'm inclined to believe it's for ads. LBE says the paid one isn't asking for gps permissions.

I think you are onto something here. Last week all the tech blogs were talking about a study that showed that ad supported android apps had some security problems related to the code that served the ads. In these stories they also talked about how the free versions of the apps typically drained batteries faster than the paid versions.
I have free versions of the other angry birds aps and they have never been this bad with battery drain, but as others have said this one seems to use GPS for targeted ads.
I've gone ahead and purchased the paid version of space. After running it for about 5 minutes the battery drain seems much more reasonable and the phone didn't get unusually hot. Perhaps only those of us cheapskates with the free app were experiencing the overheating and battery drain.
Just block it with droidwall. & why would you have gps on wile playing games any way?

I've got GPS off and adblock installed, but the ads were still coming through and the phone was getting real hot. Perhaps the issue is with AGPS and ad serving in general. Regardless, $0.99 is a bargain for a good game, and it runs much cooler and uses less battery with the paid version.
Droidwall FTW
Ya .99 is not bad, but I have almost bet the game.

the ad supported game is free, but it's constant ad server pinging and location service are killing the battery and overheating the phone. The premium version is $0.99, doesn't have ads, and doesn't kill the battery nearly as much.

Hi lads!
I have a quick question about the game. It runs smoothly, no lag, beautiful graphics (only kicks me out to desktop with low ram on 2nd level) but im struggling to get a decent score on the drifting track! I've searched through a few forums, but haven't found and pointers so far
If somebody is a pro, please help me out!

Quickly tilt to the drift side and then bring the device half-way the normal position.
Slowly tilting will now allow you to adjust the drift.
i have been playing this game on my samsung epic, and the game is great but im stuck now because i cannot do drifting.
im up to tokyo event 3. ( the drift one) now i got this far by getting all stars and perfects on all the races ( took quite some time to achieve). so yeah how does one make drift work? ive tried hours and hours and still the same thing. it will go into drift when i quickly tilt the phone ( sometimes) but will never stay no matter what i do. the car always evens itself out after like 2 seconds

So, I have the same problem that others have reported, several of my games just stop working after playing them for awhile. I'll get so far in the game and then the game just shuts down and goes back to the home screen. A couple examples of the games that do this are Pocket Legends and Muffin Knight.
I am rooted. I was wondering if flashing a custom rom helps at all. So far I am rooted, but stock. I guess I haven't figured out exactly what is causing the problem though I know it's a known problem with the S2.
I am curious myself. It feels like I'll never beat Plants vs. Zombies because of it.
As far as I know it's a sound issue with the E4GT in general even rooting will not help the problem. Atleast I don't remember seeing anyone saying the games we do know of that are crashing are now working without a crash on a rooted rom.
Play with the sounds and/or music off.

Tried that with Plants vs. Zombies it does not work still crashes after a few minutes of play time.
The biggest thing I've noticed was that the phone will heat up quite a bit during game playing.
I've found that underclocking the device down to 800mhz and using the conservative governor I'm able to play longer, but the phone still becomes incredibly warm.
I've been having this issue since day one. Its really aggravating.
Sent from my SPH-D710 using XDA App
It has something to do w/ the soundpool bug that's causing the crash. It's been happening on the Int GS2 and Samsung still haven't fixed it. Turning off sounds doesn't fix the issue either. You can read bout it here http://groups.google.com/group/andr...hread/a40bf951f420b47e/6b736dba33793e00?pli=1

N64oid isn't affected by this. But nearly every other game is.
Thanks everyone. When i'm on the desktop I'll hit the official thanks button.
I don't use the emulators. I did try playing with the sound off, but no joy. I'll try underclocking just for fun.

Just a FYI, PopCap did an awful hack job porting their games to Android, so I wouldn't use Plants vs Zombies as a baseline. In their case it's highly likely it's the developer's fault. Can't speak for any other games / developers, though I've had zero issues with playing Cut the Rope for 1+ hours.

I agree they did do a mediocre job but that point isn't valid. These same games play very well on other Android phones. My G2 had no issues running them but my wifes E4GT freezes all the time playing certain games.
On another note, I find it odd that the issue has something to do with the sound on these phones. Top of the line mobile GPU and we are trumped by a sound bug...

Batteries are insanely cheap on eBay. $20 will get you an external charger and two or three batteries. Worth it. Changes how you use your phone entirely.
And the battery on this phone is still leaps and bounds better than anything before it.
Wifi isn't a juice hog...3G is...wifi will save you battery by keeping you off of 3G. Playing music barely sucks any juice at all unless you are powering huge headphones at max volume, and even that that's not that much juice....and texting uses 2G that is going back-n-forth anyway.
...something else is up.
Took my phone off the charger at 96% and watched a 30min video and after I was down at 85%. I was using 4g too.

Let's not forget that a weak 3G signal will murder a battery....weak 2G as well, though nowhere near as rapidly. Also some apps and widgets are notorious for sucking the battery dry...and there is also leaving background syncing on. For most people this is almost a non-issue, but, for some it is detrimental. Task killers are also bad news.
Did u check for wakelocks with other apps that shouldnt have been running some apps will suck the juice down fast ive found a few games with some dumbass updater crap that ran 24/7 and killed my battery and those damn airpush ads may only send u 1 ad a day but the updater runs constantly looking for an ad to push which is annoying in itself let alone the battery drain

That's a side-effect and/or another manifestation of the notorious Samsung battery bug. Ever notice how sometimes you reboot your phone and go from 70-90% down to 15-25% instantly? Well, I've noticed that it will also creep it's way back up, even under use....this sounds like that, though, admittedly I've never seen it happen at such a high battery level.

Android, as of Froyo, revamped it's auto-kill/freeze system to be even more effective. It really does work fine. Just because something was loaded doesn't mean it's consuming memory and/or processor cycles. Seeing that it appears to be 'running' might piss you off, but, just let it go. If you start killing these tasks they will inevitably pop up again...that DOES take processor cycles and memory....so now you've got a task killer actively running, consuming memory and processor cycles to kill programs that weren't really consuming any resources that will probably start back up to see if they have to do anything and that also consumes resources.
that's the dumbed-down version so far as I understand it.
So, on recent versions of Android task killers can not only be unnecessary but also counter productive.

Normal use not sure, but should be around 30+ range
It only runs that hot when really pushing the phone hard for me.
Don't forget ambient temperature makes a big difference also. And case trapping heat.

Overheating? I've never had any of my phones overheat, on GB, ICS or JB.
Are people really having serious overheating (as in phone crashing or shutting down from heat) on a stock device? I have a feeling anyone overheating on ICS is running a custom ROM with voltage changes or overclocks.
My GNex on AOKP and stock voltages does overheat while, for example, playing Modern Combat 3.
Ok maybe overheat is a wrong term a bit since it never crashed or force closed. It just gets fairly hot in the area above camera.
And I'm asking people who did have the problem and upgraded to JB.
My GNex does seem to be running hotter than normal on JB than ICS but not by much. No serious overheating problems at all.

Getting hot and overheating are completely different. The phone gets hot where the battery and processor are, that's just how its going to be, especially when playing 3D games.

Around the camera is where the processor etc. is. The HD2 is also severely less powerful than the Galaxy Nexus.
My cdma nexus doesnt seem to get as hot. I havent really noticed it as much as i did on ICS.
I've been getting overheating since Jelly Bean. Keep in mind that google "improved" things by ramping the CPU up when the screen is touched, even if it's to do a simple task that doesn't require full CPU power... this might exacerbate the overheating issue if you're actively using your device.
Way less then usual. Maybe 50% less. when it does it gets a bit hotter.
So in conclusion I think it's better at this job then ics.
