I do a lot of traveling, week to week I'm in a different state (All over the US). Occasionally, I run in to issues where my text messages seem to send on my end, but no one gets them and several days later (sometimes weeks) they get them all at once. What could cause this?
Also, I just flashed CM7 from using CM9 hoping it would fix this issue and my phone is having a hard time getting 3G. I'm in a very busy area that undoubtedly has 3G and I'm only getting 1x. Before I flashed CM7 I was getting 3G in the same location.
Sometimes when I'm in very bad areas I use roam control to force my phone to roam to gain data connection (I have the 11115 PRL), but I haven't had to do that the past few weeks. Hopefully someone can shed some light on these issues and help me to solve this.
EDIT: I'm using the FB15 modem.
I had the same problem on CM9 ,never tried CM7. Try using a diffrent rom for awhile and see if you have the same issues..
I'm experiencing the same problem on CM7 with the added annoyance of not being able to get 3G.
CM9,7 Isn't for everyone.. its for people that only care for looks and something a little different.its really not all that. Try using a diffrent rom and I promise you won't have the problems you are having now..
Still having the text messaging issue using the Mortify ROM which is based off of Stock.

My coworkers don't have sprint and don't experience this problem.
EDIT: I flashed the CleanGB ROM and still have the same issue. Could this be a Sprint issue?
EDIT2: Another strange bit of information is that more often than not when I fly home everyone starts getting all my messages. For example if I'm somewhere in KY and no one is getting my messages and then I fly home to San Antonio everyone starts getting them finally.

What would you suggest I do? Re-flash the modem?
just to let you all know, sprint is doing maintenance and upgrades to different towers right now. my data signal keeps going on and off here and there. i called sprint about it, to verify they are working on the towers, and yep, they are. so be forwarned that anyone may have this issue with any kind of data right now. at least for today.

Not sure when and with what ROM this started happening but my signal drops to 1x really frequently. 3G is always going in and out. Any ideas or fixes? Has this been discussed somewhere before? On train ride in to work so haven't searched threads yet! I flashed synergy a few days ago coming from mikg and before that gingerale..and before that cyanogen! It seems like I've had the problem since moving back to sense from cyanogen about a month/month and a half ago.

Where are you located? Have you had speed related issues?
Sprint has been having issues related to the overloading of towers with the excessive growth of data usage [with the boom of the Evo]
Towers are set to send some phones to 1x when 3g usage is high in order to alleviate speed issues for all.
That could explain your issues.

I live in the northwest suburbs outside of downtown Chicago. I work and commute to the city and I experience it the whole ride to and from home. I will be sitting at my desk and randomly go from full 3G to 1x. At home in the suburbs, my signal is terrible in my house already but I do get dropped to 1x as well. Don't really notice any speed changes besides the normal slowdowns from what I am assuming is the congestion.
That sounds like a horrible way to fix their congestion issues! Is this something they just started doing? Like I said in the first post, everything functioned perfect up until a month or two ago. Also, would they apply that to an area as big as Chicago out the suburbs?

It's not a fix, it's just a way to alleviate some congestion while they work on redoing the towers.
I'm not saying this is what's happening to you but it's likely.
You can try to have the phone reactivate itself. [If I recall correctly that function is in ##yourmsl#]
You can get your MSL here.
You can also try to update your PRL and then Data profile.
Same thing here. I've complained to Sprint several times so now they want me to bring my phone in to be checked so I need to unroot. Ugh

Also, and before you ask there is no logical reasoning for this and even the very knowledgeable technician that recommended it hasn't figured out why it would do anything, you can try going to ##3282# and clicking "view" and then clicking on EVDO and then backing out and trying the internet.
They don't know why that would do anything and no it doesn't make any sense...but that's exactly why I refuse to go into anything related to working on computers...for being logical they aren't logical...at all.
By the way, doesn't hurt to keep your radios updated.
Best of luck.

Haha, I am actually in IT so I know exactly what you mean. I will try that out as well. And my radios were updated and I was actually considering rolling back to see if that caused any issues for me.
Let me correct myself, sorry I never run Sense, it's ##786# then you hit menu and hit reset.
You need to have your MSL. Also, please note that this will erase your /data and you will lose all personal information.
Furthermore, be sure to cancel when it tries to do a check for firmware update.
This honestly may be more trouble than it worth though.
Thanks, yeah I found the reset option in another thread. I reset, hit the prl update, cancelled the firmware check and will run this around town for the day see if I get 1x. I'll post back here later today. thanks again for the help!
Well used for most of the day and so far so good. Saw it go down 1x once on train compared to everytime I unlocked the phone. Let's hope this isn't temporary . Ill post again after the weekend to test around the suburbs and state to state during a trip to toronto. Thanks again!

I had the same problem a month ago. It's the phone. I tried many different combination of radios and roms but no help. Ended up exchanging it. When you bring in the phone just use the android browser to load a heavy graphic webpage which should take forever in 1x mode.
I am currently tethering over a 4g connection, and my internet is working fine, BUT I have a complete LOS for the cell signal. I think this could be a very important fact because we should be able to know some things by the fact that WiMax is working while the cell signal is altogether lost.
Hopefully, with this info, a solution is a little closer at hand.
Ok...when people say LOS do they mean Loss Of Service? Or Loss Of Signal?
Because if its the latter, that sht aint that bad. But if its the former...I'm glad I don't have it.

I had pandora going over 4g earlier for hours...but lost signal with a crossed out circle after about an hour. Pandora kept going but u couldn't make a phone call, ths.falls in line with the other poster. Im running eg30plus over latest 2.1 midnight.

As WhiteWidows stated, it's 2 different radios. The LOS people have posted over and over about is the ability to make/receive calls (which is what the OP posted about). The Wimax radio (4G) doesn't transmit phone calls. That's why you can do data on 4G and still make a call at the same time.
.....
Hi guys, this is one of my first posts but I've been a long time reader coming from the Evo 4G forums. I'm rooter using Zedomax v3 and experienced multiple LOS as well.
Last night I tried limiting the clock speed to 1ghz and setting the min at 400mhz. Strangly I now get slightly better reception and never had a LOS yet. Will continue to test out this theory and see if it's clock speed related.
I came about testing this since I ran mine at 1.6 for a while and not only would I get more LOS occurances, I would also get phone freezes lol. I tether and stream music a lot so wanted to keep it slightly underclocked to keep the temps down. Hope this helps as a temporary band aid for the LOS bug
It definitely makes sense that the two radios are separate...the point of my post was just to offer some more information to help figure out a fix.
If one radio fails while the other stays working, do we know that the problem is phone-related? Many posters have speculated that the issue may be on Sprint's end, so I wasn't sure if this info did anything to challenge or support that theory. Maybe it does nothing, though -- just throwing it out there!
Someone posted a log cat of a LOS. There's still some coding in the radio files that thinks there is a sim card. Says sim disconnected and result radio off

I have been on my current SGS2 stock out of the box for over a week now and have not had any LOS issues, or missing texts, or data not working, or missing phone calls, etc.....
I have been using wi-fi, 4G, 3G, have an Airaive, went to an area where there is no Sprint service and phone roamed fine and then went back to Sprint service when available.
I have been unable to replicate the LOS issue on my current phone through all possible ways of using it.
My first SGS2 was also fine until I rooted it which then gave me an LOS within 12 hours of doing so.
If someone has a another sure way to get an LOS, I am willing to try it on my stock, never rooted phone but I don't think there are any other situations I can try that I haven't already......
Time.I have went 3 days without a los then 2 in same day.It is all random
So my phone just randomly stopped connecting to 4g yesterday mid afternoon. I have never had 4g, Wifi, or even GPS issues. Ive been on the stock (rooted) EL29 rom thats posted in the dev section. I have not been flashing different roms/modems/kernels lately. I did flash the EL29 modem again cuz i thought it might be corrupt, no still nothing...
I went back to completely stock rom/kernel/recovery EL29 a month ago and have kept it that way. Havent dropped the phone, no water damage, etc etc.
Ive read a few threads about 4g problems and 1 thread mentioned possible corruption to 4g modem data. Another similar thread went unanswered....
What do u guys think? Has anyone else experienced this??
I experienced this and the only way I got it back was odining a new modem. I tried flashing through CWM but that did not help. It does have something to do with 4g modem data corruption and only odin fixed it for me.
A few more people are also reporting the same problem. Mainly in CA. There are two more threads about this issue.

Ok people, im in LA too. I just got off the phone with sprint Tech level 2, they have no idea if its a 'known issue' which should be if more people call in and complain....
I was at a sprint store earlier where they spent an hour diagnosing the phone, reflashed EL29, re-provisioned it etc etc....and 4g is still a no go...they did NOT want to swap out the phone cuz they couldn't find anything wrong with it. Their only answer after minutes of argument was: Its a known issue by samsung and we will have to wait on them for a fix........i call this complete BS and basically not wanting to deal with the issue.
I had the same problem. I tried resetting phone. Update prl& profile still the same problem. Flash new Blend ics. Rom. And 4g work. Not sure happened. I lived the west Covina area

Idk if some of you have heard about the "ghost touch" thing where sometimes when you turn on the screen it'd be like someone was pushing on some of your capacitive buttons and you wouldn't be able to touch or do anything on the screen. Turning off the screen for a couple seconds and turning it on again helps alleviate the problem for me.
How common of a problem is this? It seems that this never used to happen until ICS came around. Is it due to software or hardware like a bad digitizer? Is this something that I should be worried about hardware wise because I'm planning on hanging onto this phone for at least another 6 months and warranty's going to be up soon in a week or two. I'm using The Goodness ROM and agat's kernel if that matters at all. Any input is appreciated. Thanks.

After trying to figure out what nearby was causing the RF intererence so I could eliminate it, I found this thread which explains that the interference originates in the phones 3G radio, not the environment. I just recently started having this problem, and from reading that thread, I think I didn't notice it before only because I was using a kernel with a fix integrated. So if you are having this problem and don't want to do surgery on your phone, maybe try to find a kernel with the software patch.

This has been happening like crazy lately, ever since Hurricane Sandy and also since running the FK09 JB leak. The Sprint signal in my area went from bad to garbage since the hurricane, not sure if the JB leak is also adding to it or not.
It is so annoying I am tempted to actually buy a different phone even though I love the E4GT.

Agreed Sprint screwed NJ hard as AT&T and Verizon restored services within a week...
On a side note, AT&T's LTE was up and running within 48 hours...Dunno about Verizon cause most of my friends have iPhone's with them. But I was roaming on Verizon full bars the whole time. But guess what happened when I tried to make a call? "Welcome to Verizon, please have a phone card or credit card at handy to make a call". I have roaming under my plan and I would like to use it...especially not crapping out in emergencies.

I've been having an issue with my softkeys (settings, home, etc...). They will randomly press opening settings, going back and opening the recent apps. Usually it does a combination of all of them and the only way to fix it is to turn off the screen and turn it back on.
I first thought this was a rom problem and switched to a new one. This didn't help so I believe it has to do with hardware. I looked up online and people say that it is a screen or battery problem. So I flashed to stock ICS and brought it into sprint, the guy was nice and stuff but he said he couldn't do anything unless we could make it happen. It wouldn't do it, so he couldn't do anything about it.
I'm wondering if it actually is a software issue or something that I'd be able to fix myself. Has anyone had any problems like this? It's not too often but often enough to be annoying. Any help would be nice.

I have the issue of menus open and close in all apps and from home screen in low to no signal areas. Some times making the phone unusable. If I turn mobile data off seems to cure the random menu opening issue... Becomes 1/2 a phone... No data and 10 a month for... What oh ya high speeds data... Used to get 10 Meg download on 4G until a couple months ago.. Now only getting 700K, I think the Sprint tower near my house was stolen lol is that a word? FI27 is out, might help. I think it may have something to do with signal however. I was at work today and I got a bunch of random presses again. There was a good sized storm and I only had a bar or two. I'm also still wondering if it is software but I cant even stand to use stock ICS to see if it happens, if I couldn't use custom roms I don't think I would even own an android phone.
I was at the gym last night... 1 to no bars, menus and soft keys started poping like crazy... Turned off mobile networks.. 3G data and not one more Phantom menu press... If I wasn't so lazy I would use a custom prl and roam control... Bet that would cure my low signal areas. I will test that theory soon.

You have to unroot the phone or they will say the rooting its causing this problem or even worse they will say it's big no no to root phones and they will invalidated your warranty, show them this video http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xKG-iq4XezU so they get an idea what the problem is
That is really odd, hadn't heard of that before. I instantly thought hardware, but it sounds like it has been proven otherwise. Is your device under warranty? If so, could be worth the hassle of a replacement, otherwise sprint call center is pretty worthless in general. They will give you pre made responses and tell you they were not aware of any such issue unless you get someone who actually gives any kind of a crap haha. Good luck! Be sure to post any updates!

Ok, before I call in I have one last question. Will they send me a loaner phone? I need my phone for work and what not so if I cant get something temporary then I'm not even going to be able to send it in.
Not sure if this will answer your question but a co-worker recently had to take his OG EVO in for service. They gave him a loaner phone, an EVO 3D.
My wife's E4GT had the same phantom soft key issue. It was recently replaced due to another unrelated issue and so far, no issues.
Sent using my HTC EVO 4G and a magic wand
Very last question, I promise. Should I call Sprint or call Samsung directly? I'm most likely going to try and get it replaced this weekend. Hoping that everything goes well.
Short of a sledge hammer or selling the phone is there any remedy?
Phantom keys were crazy on my phone yesterday. I hadn't seen the problem very much in a week or so. I have no idea what was going on, but cleared dalvik cache and that seemed to help. No problems with it today. I wish I could figure out a correlation besides poor signal.
