[Q] Can't Install CM7

I've done the following 3 times now, and all i get is a continuous boot splash screen of cyanogen7(mod).
I downloaded the stable rom here: http://www.cyanogenmod.com/devices/t-mobile-g2
I put the zip file onto my sd card.
I turn my phone off.
I hold the volume down button and turn phone on.
I wipe the cache and dalvik cache.
I go to install update from sd card
I find the zip file and select it.
I wait for it to install, it says it installed successfully.
I reboot my phone.
This results in a constant boot up screen saying cm7. Ive left it like that for a good while, and nothing happens. I cant press any buttons. i have to take the battery out, and restore from ROM manager.
Any help please?
Thanks

wipe /data and /system via mounts & storage menu in recovery prior to installation (just do it at the same time you format cache and dalvik cache)
mount the partition you wish to format, then format, then mount the next partition, then format.

so if you want to wipe the data partition, do this from mounts & storage in CWM:
-press "mount data"
-press "format data"
once complete, press "unmount data" (I can't remember if it automatically does this after formatting - you may not have to do that)
perform the same steps for /system.
You need to wipe data/factory reset before flashing CM7, or any new ROM for that matter.
I've never had to mount the data and system partitions... you can simply hit "wipe data/factory reset" and it will wipe everything for you...

You sure? You indicated in your OP that you only wiped cache and dalvik cache.
You can try flashing "superwipe G2" before flashing the ROM to see if you're missing something.

yeh i selected both wipe options the first time i did it. the phone went to factory settings
done it now, thanks. where do i get gapps from?
http://wiki.cyanogenmod.com/wiki/Latest_Version#Google_Apps
Everything sorted now, although i get messages saying sometimes that apps have to force close unexpectedly, although that hasn't caused too many issues.
also had an issue where my handset was constantly running at 1.2GHz and the battery went flat within hours lol. not sure what that was about but it seems to have fixed itself.
only issue now is that all my text messages are not getting delivered to and sent from me. anyone heard of this or have a solution?
thanks

For the force closes, try running a 'fix permissions' in ROM manager
As far as messages, is your phone number recognized by the phone?
check menu > settings > about phone > my phone number

That's the media player I think. Did you restore this app with data? You can try wiping its data, or uninstalling and reinstalling a different one.
I've been searching google for a solution but can't find one. The process is used for gallery, camera and market. Probably others. Its just come up while I'm typing this message. I can't download any apps because of it.

[Q] UIDs on the system are inconsistent - happened to me :(

Well, to my wife's phone anyhow. I had installed CWM recovery and was fixing permissions because I had had a couple of minor issues, but while it was doing its job the battery fell off (duh...) and now I'm getting the infamous error.
I have searched high and low and all I can do -it would seem- is to do a factory reset? Or is there some pearl of wisdom I've missed?
Thanks!
PS Ah yes, forgot to say I've fixed permissions through CWM several times now, problem persists...
Hey... I had this error too..had to factory reset then it was gone
Yeah, that's what I did, too. Somebody should try and make a tool for this issue...
UIDS errors, factory reset and more
I have flashed the 2.3.6 and I started to get some problems of instability with some programs that where crashing, so I reinstalled again the 2.3.6 but I think without removing the roots rights...
From that time I get the famous sentence "Uids .... I'm feeling lucky"
Now most of the programs are not working and crashing, I cannot use the market, I've been trying to factory reset, but I got this error while rebooting after factory reset:
E:format_volume: rfs format failed on /dev/block/mmcblk0p2
E:format_volume: rfs format failed on /dev/block/stl10
E:format_volume: rfs format failed on /dev/block/stl11
data wipe failed
the the phone rebooted, give same sentence "Uids...." and if I try to connect to the pc and try to delete file from the internal SD card it deletes, but when I reboot the mobile the files are always there.
It seems I have not the rights to modify anything on the partition
Anybody has some clue?
I had the same problems and I had to reset the phone to factory settings.
But after that I fixed this I discovered this app Fix Permissions from Stephen (Stericson). I installed this app just in case.
I think it may be fix the problem without CWM or else a factory reset will do.

I cannot install anything the market is not working and I cannot copy any file on the internal sdcard.
Exactly I can copy files or even format the partition but when I reboot the device the partition, files, directory are always there like I've done nothing.

[Q] SGH-T989 frozen in time, advice requested, any ideas?

Hello, everybody. I have a T-Mo SGS2 SGH-T989 that's frustrating me, and I'm hoping one of you might understand what's happening and how to fix it. Its software seems to be frozen in time. Every time I reboot it, no matter what I've done to it, it opens on the homescreen I had in place as of last Thursday (6 September). As soon as it boots it downloads updates for every app that's had an update come out since then. Any apps I have tried to install since then give me a "could not be downloaded due to an error. (492)" message, and any already-installed apps I delete magically reappear unchanged as soon as I reboot. Not only that, but all the app cache data is frozen in time, too; Poweramp opens with the player cued to the middle of a track I had last listened to over Bluetooth in my car last Thursday, the Kindle app opens to a page within a book I had read last Thursday, etc. I can't make any permanent changes to my phone for no obviously apparent reason, though it's for the most part functional. To top it all off, though, after being powered on for a few hours, apps start randomly force closing until I reboot it again! I've been running essentially the same software environment on it for a couple of months, and up until last Thursday it was rock-solid reliable. I'm not a complete n00b, but I don't have nearly as much time as I'd like to devote to progressing beyond rank amateur status, and having my phone not completely functional is bugging the spit out of me. I've been trawling this and other forums as much as I can since then, and I can't make head or tail of this problem. Anybody have any ideas?
I've already tried wiping the cache and dalvik cache, I've tried restoring a backup from cwm, I've tried doing a factory reset and data wipe, I've tried darkside super wiping it, I've tried flashing new recoveries, I've tried to update the firmware through Kies, I've tried to flash it back to stock with ODIN, and I even downloaded the Android SDK so I could open an adb shell over USB and chmod all the file permissions to read/write! I keep encountering error messages in cwm and adb saying error mounting /sdcard, error mounting /sd_ext, error mounting sdcard/android.secure, etc. What really blows my mind is that everything seems to be working just fine in ODIN while I'm flashing it - until the phone reboots and shows me exactly the same environment it had before I flashed it. I had avast! Anti-Theft installed, and I disabled its device administrator privileges and uninstalled it before I made any of these attempts to fix it, but it keeps reappearing too. I'm at a loss.

Yeah what he said.. You could always try a virus scan, however I have heard they aren't that reliable.. Easiest fix would be get a warranty replacement and be done with it.

Oh, dear.
I wouldn't have thought I had downloaded anything especially sketchy. I won't install an app unless it's got a lot of positive reviews, but I suppose that's no guarantee of absence of malware. The trouble with sending it in for warranty service is, I've voided my warranty by rooting it and installing a custom ROM, and I can't flash it back to stock.

If you already have a back up try this out. Format system, Format data, Format cache. Wipe cache partition, Wipe dalvik, Wipe data/Factory Reset. Do all these twice not once but twice then reinstall backup rom and reboot. See if this fixes the problem.
No Joy

Creating a backup was the first thing I did after I rooted it, so I did what you suggested. The first four steps went well enough:
Reboot to recovery ---> mounts and storage ---> format /system ---> Yes - Format ---> Done. (x2)
mounts and storage ---> format /data ---> Yes - Format ---> Done. (x2)
mounts and storage ---> format /cache ---> Yes - Format ---> Done. (x2)
wipe cache partition ---> Yes - Wipe Cache ---> --Wiping cache... Formatting /cache... Cache wipe complete. (x2)
When I went to wipe dalvik, I got this error the first time:
advanced ---> Wipe Dalvik Cache ---> E:unknown volume for path [/sd-ext]
So I tried it again, and it seemed to work:
Wipe Dalvik Cache ---> Dalvik Cache wiped.
Just to be sure, I tried it a third time and got the error again:
advanced ---> Wipe Dalvik Cache ---> E:unknown volume for path [/sd-ext]
After several more tries, it seems to be alternating back and forth between telling me it works and giving me an error message, so I moved on:
wipe data/factory reset ---> Yes -- delete all user data --->
It seemed to partially work, but also gave me an error:
-- Wiping data...
Formatting /data...
Formatting /cache...
Formatting /sd-ext...
Formatting /sdcard/.android.secure...
Error mounting /sdcard/.android.secure!
Skipping format...
Data wipe complete.
I tried it again three more times and got the same results, error mounting /sdcard/.android.secure. Moving on, I tried to restore a backup:
- backup and restore ---> restore ---> E:Can't mount /sdcard (x4)
The thought occurred that it might be trying to access an external SD card rather than internal storage, so I re-installed the one I had removed prior to mucking about trying to wipe things and tried again:
- backup and restore ---> restore ---> Couldn't open directory. No files found.
This was new, so I went back to the wipe data/factory reset step:
wipe data/factory reset ---> Yes -- delete all user data --->
This time it seemed to work without any errors:
-- Wiping data...
Formatting /data...
Formatting /cache...
Formatting /sd-ext...
Formatting /sdcard/.android.secure...
Data wipe complete. (x2)
Since that seemed to work, I repeated all steps from the beginning and moved on to the restore step:
- backup and restore ---> restore ---> Couldn't open directory. No files found. (x2)
I tried the restore from internal sdcard option:
- backup and restore ---> restore from internal sdcard ---> Couldn't open directory. No files found. (x2)
I then tried the "- advanced restore" and "- advanced restore from internal sdcard" but with the same results ---> Couldn't open directory. No files found. (x2)
Then I rebooted it:
- reboot system now --->
And yet again, it behaves as though it's been powered down since Thursday before last.

CM Update 12.1-13.0

Hey guys, I was trying to update my SGH-I747 to CM 13.0 and every time I do my phone reboots back in 12.1 with everything wiped. I have titanium backup pro so that's no biggie because I just restore everything. Except.... that my keyboard won't come up for some reason after I backup. Anyways... when I use Clockwork Mod for the followinig zip file http://get.cm/get/jenkins/164161/cm-13.0-20160603-NIGHTLY-d2att.zip It starts to install normally. But, once it gets to:
E: failed to verify whole-file signature
E: signature verification failed
It tries 3 times and then formats all data. After it starts up I have 12.1 still, no 13.0
Any suggestions for this issue?
Try flashing with twrp? Cwm hasn't been updated for a long time.
Thank you audit13! I just downloaded TWRP and it booted fine. I had my 32GB SD card formatted 1/2 to EXT0 and the other half FAT32 and it wouldn't read it so I backed it up and formatted it. Long story short... my GAPPS wasn't working. I figure it is due to the new OS since it was 5.0 Anyways I went to opengapps.org and selected ARM-6.0-FULL
It seemed to load fine but when it booted up and got to the home screen I got the "unfortunately setup wizard has stopped"
I cleared the cache and reloading the OS right now. It's not an ARM64 is it?
I got it. Just cleared the cache and wiped it. Everything came up like it was supposed to.

Solved: Play Store app causing a lot of issues. Factory Reset failed.

Update: Using Smart Switch (Kies), I was able to flash the Stock rom. By using the software, I didnt have to know what version to download or where to download. It flashed everything on its own. Just ensure that the cable you are using is proper ( i had a loose cable which was causing a lot of disconnects.
Hi All,
I'm on this abominable 4.3 version (T889UVUCOH4).
I see that after some partial update from Play Store for some games and stuff, the Play Store app stopped working altogether and is frequently showing the message "Unfortunately, Google Play Store has stopped" (pic1.png)
Tried a reboot, cache wipe, dalvik wipe before the dreaded factory reset. At this point I realised its either the factory reset or my phone getting drained to to constant messages from stoppage of the Play Store app.
I backed up all that I needed and decided to get rid of this completely by doing a Factory reset. To my sheer disbelief, factory reset is failing. I am using CWM recovery and Note 2 is rooted.
Code:
ClockworkMod Recovery v6.0.4.3
-- Wiping data...
Formatting /data...
Error mounting /data!
Skipping format...
Formatting /cache...
Formatting /sd-ext...
Formatting /sdcard/.android_secuure...
E:unknown volume "/sdcard/.android_secure"
Data wipe complete...
Rebooting
After this the phone boots up normally and goes on to throw up those "app stopped" messages.
If I do the Factory reset from Settings->Accounts->Backup and Reset -> Factory data reset -> Reset device then the following set of logs appear during the reset
Code:
ClockworkMod Recovery v6.0.4.3
E: Invalid command argument
Formatting /data...
E:format_volume: make_extf4fs failed on /dev/block/mmcblk0pl17
Formatting /cache...
Data wipe failed.
If anyone can guide me to either install a Custom rom at this stage or simply recover to stock rom, I would really appreciate your help.
I feel some guidance at this stage for me would be good as I have flashed roms and tinked a wee little bit performing Rooting and using Rooted apps and SU (maybe its useful or maybe not)
So please help me !
I would try using TWRP Recovery instead of CWM to wipe the device.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1966105
If that fails then get a stock ROM you can flash through Odin (this will wipe internal memory)
I was able to flash the stock rom using Kies (Smart Switch).
I still cannot imagine why that error happened when I was doing partial App update.
Marking it as solved. If you have any concerns, please PM me.
