Hi All,
As of now I have confirmation from many users running different ICS ROMs on different galaxy models.
To summarize my changes to make Viber microphone work.
1)modified my build prop and replaced GT-I9000 with SGH-I9000.
2) Installed semaphore kernel 0.9.5b and fixed permissions from cwm.(optional)
3) Reboot your mobile.
4) Calls using Viber should work now. (This change will magically fix the microphone issue)
You can use free application from market named 'build.prop editor'.
All the best with your testing.
Press thanks if this works for you.

Big thanks to artikeln, now we have another good source of information on fixing Viber (without breaking game) http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=24527729

With this solution I have tested that Viber and games works
TO MAKE VIBER WORKS Thanks to mcse_hst, thaidroid and Mc.canos
- Modify build prop (i.e with Root Explorer, it is in System dir and with R/O) and replace "GT-I9000" in lines:
ro.product.model=Nexus S
ro.product.brand=Samsung
- Maybe it's necessary fix permissions [DALVIK & CWM] (in Advanced option)
- With this change, Viber works, and it looks that others app also (including games)

You are great
It's working perfectly in
- [4.0.4 IMM 30B base][ROM] EliteV7 Beta (20/03/2012) AOSP NEXUS S/4g
With Devil 1.1.6 and fix permissions, I'm sure that it works with other kernels without problems
Great job
What is it "Viber" ?
Check on the market
edit build prop
replaced GT-I9000 to SGH-I9000
reboot
that will be ok
don't need to change kernel
don't need to fix permission(CWM)
you are really the man.
thanks!!!!!
Er
What exactly was "SOLVED" here??
If you mean that Viber didn't work on ICS ROMs, that's old hat. Viber got updated close to a month ago that does work on ICS...
Am i missing something???

yes
you really miss something
viber can work indeed, But when you call someone
He can't hear what you say ... Just you can hear his voice.
this is very worse
now ... Just edit build prop
Viber works perfectly
do I need to change "all" keys by replacing GT-I9000 with the new one or just a specific one?
oops same question ! -.-
Have you tried telling the Viber folks about this ? From the sound of it, it may be a simple change on the app to fix this prob.

Viber team do know about this prob.
One from their team gave me this link (at an Israeli forum).
I suggested them to add also GT-I9000. I hope they will...

I exchanged many mails with Viber team to make sure that they are aware of this work around.
As per my understanding, either they have problem with code related to GT-I9000 or they don't have this piece included in their code at all.
Hope to see a patched version from Viber team real soon.

Hi, please check my last post.
Sent from Samsung Galaxy S (GT-I9000) running ICS (AOKP build 28, semaphore kernel 0.9.5b)
As I've said before, it's probably due to Viber using Samsung specific code. With this changed to an unknown device, they're using generic android code and it works. But now, don't complain that you can't install certain applications from the market because market won't recognize that you're a Galaxy S either!
Modify Viber APK
I noticed that there is a res/raw/beta_devices.xml that lists the GT-I9000. I would like to try to change that instead of my build.props. Any recommendations on how I would go about this? I have tried to edit the file and "freshen" the zip, but it fails to install. May I could edit the installed app?
Thank for the input.

Ohhh unbelievable man, many many many thanks, can't believe that ! But i guess that this tip works also for CM7 ! No?

TouchWiz Stock Clock app
New themed version by Gyebro
To anyone interested, Gyebro has put together a Holo themed version of my clock package, he has put a lot of work into it too, there are a lot of visual fixes and it looks and runs great on 4.1.2.
Check out his thread
[PORTED][APP][HOLO] Holo themed TouchWiz ClockPackage
And a bunch of screenshots here
If you like it, head over to his page and hit thanks
***New Update 22th September 2012***
This is a ported touchwiz clock from the Samsung stock roms. It is tested and working on ICS roms and most Jelly Bean roms. This app has been tested in 240dpi (as it is designed for) and 210dpi, tested in English and French. Any graphical problems you might experience are a direct result to changing the dpi, I will not be accepting requests to change the visual layout of the app because as it is it is completely stock and working perfectly for 240dpi (the intended dpi for this phone)
This app is fully functional except for;
1. the map for the world clock (the world clock is working thought)
2. the popup notification notification that tells you your alarm will go off in X hours and X minutes
3. the color of what you have selected in the snooze options (you will be able to see what is selected in the main alarm screen
apart from these minor details everything else is working. Please do not post to tell me about these things, I already know.
I have added languages from all app versions that I could get my hands on. All the usual languages are included, I have recently included Hebrew and Arabic? as requested. If your language is not supported please tell me, and if possible send me a clockpackage.apk from a stock rom with your language (one that you are sure your language is included in)
This clock app is SGS3 themed where possible. See screenshots below.
I have also included a v2.4 +extras zip, this includes the Samsung digital clock widget (SGS3 themed), the Samsung Accuweather widget with transparent background, the Samsung memo app, and ThinkFree Office app.
If you dont want these extras please use the other zip - v2.4
If I have helped you at all, please hit the thanks button
or feel free to buy me a beer / donate
Please test it before you use it!
I will not be held responsible for people who wake up late and lose their job, or miss a flight, etc.
I wont be held responsible for people bricking their phones by doing dumb stuff, just follow the instructions.
Instructions
Copy to zip file to phone SDcard, reboot into CWM and flash, reboot, enjoy
If you are using a previous version of this clock apk please --> backup and delete the old file (HybridTWClock******.apk) from your /system/app folder and then install the new zip in CWM
If you are using CM9 or CM10 or a rom that already has a clock app (deskclock.apk), please note that you do not need to delete the existing clock app for this one to work, - but if you do delete the existing deskclock.apk this one will still work as a stand alone clock

Hi, forgot to mention that the rom I am using currently is AOKP M4 Build28 with ported ICS TouchWiz4. It is running fine and wake me up on time today
Thank you for this!!
Works fine besides some menu issues not showing up normally. Places where I cant see the menu properly (as in a popup) are when I tap on Alarm repeat, Click on snooze to change the duration and repeat, and lastly when I tap on smart alarm to change the duration and tone.
Last thing, when i click on Alarm tone at the very bottom and click on "Go to My files" I get a tiny notification type popup saying "Application package com.sec.android.app.myfiles not found"
Sorry if you knew this and I just repeated it all.. Working fantastic though, really missed that smart alarm.

I have never done a development on Android.
I think that will be very hard for me to do it.
Thanks for you reply anyway.
This build was edited by me (mainly for my personal use), based off of Zips Creamed Glacier's 3.11 release, but contains fixes I pulled from IceColdInsomnia 6.2.1.
I don't normally start dev threads, so bare with me (I'm no dev)
What's new:
- Practically everything that's included in Zips Creamed Glacier 3.11 - includes, FFC unlock, Working games (Draw Something does work!), mdj's kernel and so forth.
- I fixed the weather/geolocation issues found in 3.11
- I fixed the USB mount issue in 3.11 (you couldn't mount as a mass storage device while the phone was on [gave you two options that didn't work])
- I fixed the full signal bars issue (reported full bars at all times you'd have service)
- Also included the romcontrol.apk from IceColdInsomnia 6.2.1 and the settings.apk (for those who wanted ROM control settings but had to use the widget shortcuts to use them, you no longer have to as it's included in the settings)
- Replaced the systemui.apk with IceColdInsomnia 6.2.1's (you can haz 4g icons!)
- Replaced Trebuchet with Apex Launcher (This was part of my personal liking, Apex Launcher is the best ICS launcher IMO, try it out)
- May be forgetting something else...
All of the fixes mentioned above were fixed by pulling their respective files from IceColdInsomnia 6.2.1
* Don't ask any of the devs for wifi calling, as it's assumed to not work until T-Mo updates wifi calling for ICS (which should be whenever a T-Mo phone officially has ICS) or unless a dev performs some sort of magic ritual and get it working and stable

- blackwing182 - for certain files from his build to fix usb and location issues and the AOKP files for ROM control (will post which ones they were specifically later) (ICS thread link here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1551456)
and those also to those mentioned in their thanks lists (tell me who I forgot to mention and I'll add you here)

Basically all that you would find in zips' build, I think the only app I took out was trebuchet and the only app I added was apexlauncher. If not, I can fix them later.
For the low mic issues, I didn't put those in my zip, but I can post the link to the fix in my OP.

Viber must support Custom Roms
We (Viber) can guarantee that Viber is fully compatible with phones that we thoroughly tested in our labs. The list of devices we've tested is found in our HelpDesk: http://bit.ly/Hm5k9pWe've tested these devices with their original Stock ROM (one that comes from your factory, with no substantial modifications to the OS itself). This, by the way, is the case of the huge majority of Android phones across the world today - in other words, phones who have been "ROM'ed" are a tiny percent of all Android phones out there.
* And by the way, it's not true that Viber simply "does not work" on Custom ROMs. On the contrary - it actually works with them most of the time. However, sometimes some Custom ROMs collide with *some* feature of Viber, and when this happens unfortunately there is not much we can do to help, since we cannot afford to adapt Viber to all Custom ROMs out there, and all of their versions. This requires development, testing, etc, and we simply don't have these resources. We usually recommend those users to contact the ROM developer for further support - they may be able to resolve this issue.

He already answered your question, the 4.1.2 weren't ever completed, they were abandoned... hence why the issues in those roms are still present.
Install PACRom 18.2 and then apply the fixes for keyboard etc. I think the fixes are in the litekernel thread. Put on the latest litekernel for 4.1 keyboard fix, lights fix and you'll have the best working 4.1.2.
Note - skype and bluetooth headset still won't work, pretty sure the camera issue with rotation is still present. I ran pacrom 18.2 for MONTHS without any issue except those listed and the wake lag.
I was trying to port something, not use it as a rom.

GPS and other features
Uhm is any STABLE release with:
GPS Working (most important)
MUSIC Working
Skype Working
Camera Working
Google Now Working (this seems to be an issue from all custom Roms)
Since I've seen most these features working but none on the same ROM all together

Not for version 4.1.2 (jellybean)
Only ICS 4.0.xxx ...
****, somebody needs to make a sticky for the most current stable rom .. this question keeps coming up over and over and over in every forum and many threads.

GPS has always worked. Some of the technical data returned is invalid/bogus but Google Maps/Navigation is completely unaffected.

Again, it's always worked, so long as you don't have an app trying to record audio at the same time.

Skype works for text messages, but received audio in calls is corrupt. The core of the issue is audio playback breaks when an app opens the microphone. (Ironically, the microphone itself actually works fine, i.e. voice recognition has messed up audio cues but it does process what you say correctly.) Current hypothesis is it's a driver issue. Research is ongoing. This is a longstanding issue going all the way back to our very first JB kernels.
Camera Working

Current CM10.1 and derivatives have a fully working camera.

This is actually a known problem with Google Now itself, it depends on an instruction set the Tegra 2 doesn't have. The Galaxy R and the Galaxy Note 10.1 have the same problem, on ALL Jellybean ROMs, even official. Bug Google, not us.
There is a workaround: downgrade GNow to a working version (possibly by flashing old gapps), then disable "Hotword detection" in settings. Once that is turned off you can upgrade to the latest and it will still work.
Thanks for the reply

Thanks for the reply but:
1) GPS was not locking for me until I changed the gps.conf file in MOST of the ROMs I've tested.
2) Music didn't work on one rom I tested (now and then the music player started lagging and it automatically stopped every few seconds for a few milliseconds)
3)Thanks for the Skype reply; I was hoping there was some version with this fixed but evidentely not.
4)Camera flips orientation in all the roms I've tested. HDR just worked in 1 of them. Camera actually crashed from time to time in one of them.
5)Oh, sad about the Google Now fact. It's actually one of the main reasons I wanted JB
The skype thing Can't be a hardware issue since I've used skype several times before rooting my device. The issue you are talking about happens on google voice sometimes; therefore I'm guessing you're right on thinking that the problem is on the driver.
I'm very interested in ROM building since I'm an app developer for android and a C++ programmer; yet I've been too lazy to check how it worked. Are the drivers we are using open source? or are we just messing with the conf files trying to get things fixed?

hi,
thread how to compile from source:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2071542
AFAIK drivers are not open source if they were there wouldn't be so much problems with them. They are ported from other devices similar hw but with code for them.
any news about JB and bluetooth headset issue?
this is the only thing that's been holding me back so far

Where to find this "Uhm"? It was not listed here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1621350
Are there any known 4.3 or 4.4 ROMs with working phone mic?
I've used CM 10.2 Stable (4.3) and Carbon Rom (4.4.2). Both work great, the only issue is that the headset is not usable for calls (low mic output). My solution for now is using the earbud/mic, but I'm curious to know if anyone has made progress on this. Aside from this, the various ROMs are near perfect for my needs.
I'm not very knowledgeable on the details of writing ROMs, but would any type of source code release from LG help developers solve this? Curious to know what the main hurdles are for the devs and what tools they need.
Thanks.
Wish I could tell ya but I don't have a headset with a mic. I'd say give AICP a try since it uses AOKP sources instead of CM. Might give ya a better outcome.

Still no luck on a solid working phone microphone (low volume on other end). And the search continues.
Now that mid March has come around, has anyone had any good luck with a working in call microphone?
I was previously using several 4.4.2 Builds however, the need for a working phone mic was too critical for daily usage.
I'm using a 4.3 build (Slim Bean) which I believe is the only one with a working phone. The build is an unofficial beta and the only real issues are lack of microSD function, FC on Google Drive, and a few freezes here and there. Overall it's usable for my needs but would like to get back onto 4.4.2 granted the phone mic works.
Any suggestions/advice would be great. Thanks!

I don't know much, plus i am still on stock but i will suggest you to ask your query and issues on particular custom ROM posts. i have seen people getting response faster and if in case there is a bug, high chances that developer of that particular ROM can fix it

Thanks. I ask because this is a problem has existed on all known roms since 4.3.1 for the E980 on ATT. Never been able to get a straight answer anywhere so I figure I would generically post it. I have reached out to some devs but not luck.
Any success on your searching?

Here is a manual fix for the in call mic from JustinNL on XDA:
Step 1:
download a "build.prop editor app", I used: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.jrummy.apps.build.prop.editor
Step 2:
Modify these 2 specs in the build prop editor
persist.audio.handset.mic.type=digital --> replace digital with analog
persist.audio.dualmic.config=endfire -- replace endfire with false
Since i changed it i haven't had any complaints so far but flashing to new nightly makes it revert again, keep that in mind."
Been working great for myself and others.

I saw that solution but I went back to rooted and debloated stock, I am very pleased with speed and stability.
