Is anyone else having issues with their screen not rotating when holding their Spectrum/Nitro HD/Optimus LTE in landscape?
I'm using Launcher Pro on my stock Spectrum and I often have to use the pulldown notification to reset screen rotation. It works, but I shouldn't have to do this. I'm thinking it might be due to Launcher Pro being old and basically abandoned.
Does anyone have input as to which other launchers might handle this better?
Thanks.

Have you calibrated your accelerometer? When I first got my phone I was having rotation issues but after calibrating it is fine. Its an option in display settings, just make sure you have a level surface to put the phone on to calibrate.
I use go launcher BTW. But I was having the issue with stock LG launcher as well.

I use Launcher Pro on my Nitro and I've never had any rotation problems.
I had the same issue but found the fix for it in one of the forums.
You basically re-flash/copy the files for all your sensors and it will work fine after that.
This should be the correct thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1472501&highlight=nitro+sensors

I've tried Google without any luck..so I'm guessing this is a no..but I'm trying to find an app that disables tilt in certain situations only. I know I can disable tilt thru the settings..but that disables tilt EVERYWHERE. I'm just looking to disable tilt on my homescreen..while still being able to tilt while browsing Interwebz and whatnot. Seems like it should be an easy enough function..considering BB's have an app for it. Anyone have any suggestions?

Ok 1 - Android is not BlackBerry. Not even on the same level as one another, so just get that out of your head.
Second off, wtf do you mean on your homescreen? Sense doesn't turn landscape unless you changed the Skin to one built with landscape. Just switch it to the stock HTC skin, problem solved, it never goes landscape unless you open the keyboard.
If you're not using Sense (CM 6.1 or something) check the settings, as it usually has a way to disable homescreen rotation in their own personal settings.
Try CM6. It has the option for a custom power control widget to be embedded into the statusbar. You can put a toggle for rotation too. You loose the sense home and widgets though, but imo stock > sense. Or you could try quickdesk and put a rotation toggle widget on it.

Orly? Android isn't Blackberry? Good to know.
So lets begin...in order to "hide" all the bunk apps because I wasn't rooted, flashed, s-offed etc yet (all the things necessary to remove said apps) I had to download Launcher Pro (which was highly recommended). As soon as this was done..then yes..I was no longer able to use stock Sense. So now..my homescreen always tilts on me..which bugs the **** outta me. Could I just go back to stock Sense? Sure I could..but I'd rather have what should be a basic app to allow me to pick and choose where and when I'd like my screen to tilt. And I've grown to like how my homescreen looks over the stock look. Yes..I can disable autotilt in the settings..but then I can't even tilt the screen into landscape for the browser. So maybe I'm missing something here that someone else can point out..

I am on a stock ROM myself still, but I know that Cyanogen has a lot of customisation options. I wonder if it's worth asking in the CM thread over on the G2 side (because the DZ one is dead) out whether that has options that might help you ?
You want to disable "rotation" all over your phone AND to be able to use the browser in Landscape mode.
If that is the only thing you want, you can set your browser to "landscape mode only"
Now if you have a longer list of requirements on what apps get permisions to rotate the screen etc, I think you may bigger problems

there was nothing offensive or said with an attitude in this post. it was only til you noobs came on here with misplaced android pride. he didnt compare berrys to droids. he simply said they have an app for it.
this is a great question. the tilt function seems almost too sensitive. it would be great to maybe tweak it somehow to make it so you really have to hold the phone sideways....instead of slightly tilt the phone. an app to block it in certain situations is good but i feel that id have to micro manage too much to specify every single situaiton id want tilt or not.
for the record... i'm am a die hard android user and his post did not push my buttons at all. this post is very useful.
ADW launcher has an option in system preferences for home screen orientation.
Just change it from auto to portrait, that's what I did.

Wow no one answered your question. Well here it is, when you are on the home screen hit the Menu - Behavior Settings and uncheck Enable Auto-Rotation.
That will disable auto rotation on the home screen. Now go into Settings - Display and make sure Auto-rotate screen is checked. This way you will be able to but your screen into landscape mode when surfing the web or using apps that auto rotate. Now if you want to be able to choose specific apps, that I have no knowledge of doing. Hope this helps.

Tasker (on the Market) can be set up to enable/disable auto-rotation on many different triggers, like when a certain app is launched. Plus it can do a lot more that that! Check it out I think it's well worth the money.

Excellent.
Glad I could help. I know I was having the same issue at one point in time and it was very annoying. I didn't want to give up on Launcher Pro because the widgets are awesome and it gave me "sense" on my stock android! If you haven't played with Launcher Pro Plus, you should give it a whirl. The widgets that are unlocked with it are definitely top notch.

This is the correct answer if using Launcher Pro, I'd assume it would be pretty similar for adw launcher too.

The crazy thing is I actually NEVER played with ADW, yet I keep hearing how really good it is. So good in fact, that some custom ROMS have it built in. Would you recommend it?

Not only those but what about the Friendstream widget? It is damn near an exact replica of the sense widget. I also like how when you use the picture frame widget, you can resize it. That feature is only available on LPP not LP.

Every time I try ADW I am always disappointed with the jerkiness/lack of smooth scrolling. I try it once every few months but never stuck with it.
Definitely Launcher Pro for me, smooth, customisable, practical,... who could ask for more?

So, I'm on mikfroyo 4.5 and I'm using the paid launcherpro. Is there a way to have it build a cache for switching between portrait and landscape mode? Switching to landscape on the home screen isnt TOO slow but it could definately stand to be faster. It looks like it removes all the icons on my screen and then replaces them currently.

I would also like to know if there is a setting I'm missing somewhere to remedy this. This happens to me using LPP on any Sense OR AOSP rom. Drives me crazy. Exactly as you describe, when it switches from landscape to portrait, the icons seem to disappear and then rebuild. It's annoying as crap. I have played around with all the settings and have yet to find anything to correct this. I never see anyone else complain of the issue, so I assumed it was my doing that was causing the problem somehow. Any suggestions anyone?
My solution: turn off rotation in Launcher Pro. I also tried this for a while but was very dissatisfied with the time it took to switch orientations, no amount of caching or keeping launcher in memory tweaks seemed to help.

Yea, that's what I did. I don't need my homescreen in landscape. I'd rather not have the slow loading.

so, just got my phone looking and feeling pretty much how I wanted it using go launcher but I am noticed that either i have a problem with screen sensitivity or there is a problem with go. I am finding that i have to click some icons several times to launch them, seem worse in drawer.
Anyone else finding that the get the audible click but nothing happens?
EDIT: switched back to ADW and everything is back to normal, gotta be an issue with GO..
No. The only problems I've had with Go Loauncher EX is that there was a lag between the start of a horizontal swipe and the homescreens starting to swipe - resolved once I stopped the wallpaper from scrolling too, and in the app drawer sometimes a long press doesn't launch "edit mode".
Other than that it's all gravy...
odd, my problems disappeared when moving back to ADW. Cheers anyway though.
+1 haha i thought it was just me that was having this issue.when you select something on launcher it indicates the touch with the glow but nothing happens?press couple times and it will open.that is what i was having.was making think i was having lag.went back to touchwiz not a issue.
+2 Hot damn, I thought I was going crazy.
Edit: I emailed them about it but it definitely goes away with a different launcher
cool hopefully they will have a fix in no time.those guys work hard.its hard to go back to touchwiz after go.i also use there go pro messenger.built in backup etc like the laucnher.
Having the same "lag" problem.
So, we're all NOT crazy
Cant say I have had this issue and I have been using GO Launcher for quite some time now.
Yes, I noticed this bug also.
I'm using go launcher ex for some time and this came out since 2-3 weeks.
I hope they will fix it soon.

I am having the same issue here. Gestures are disabled but that didn't help (even after restarting phone). Used to have Launcher Pro Plus which didn't have this kind of behavior.
Sent dev an email though.
Same observations. Especially bad for icons in the dock. I have always disabled gestures.
+1 I also have this problem from time to time. First I tought it was me missing the right spot on the screen, but it must be a bug.
Kia ora all.
Fantastic phone! Received it from clove in uk too hear in NZ and it works well.
Couple of things if anyone can advise..
1. Rotate landscape home ui.
I've set rotate on for display and accessibility and our still won't rotate hone screen just the apps.
2.Photo gallery widget appears too be missing. Like the one for the LG G2.

The home screen is not designed to rotate, this is why it doesn't.
As for the widget, I guess LG decided not to use it on the G3 (it is not a G2 so you should stop comparing it to it).

Thanks Lenny. When i googled for Home UI Landscape pictures existed of the home screen in that orientation, hence my question. Someone has possibly done it. Perhaps through a 3rd party app and as a mislead. all good.
Regarding comparing it to an LG G2; considering i have them both on me and one is a predecessor to the other including design element uplifts, I and many will likely compare them. But thanks for noting it.
cheers
I use this app when I want to view the home screen in landscape mode...

in the playstore there are photo widgets if you really want them try there

Hmm I know I saw pics of LG's new UI somewhere and it did rotate the home screen to landscape like skinless android does. I was happy that it did - I've always mostly used my phones in landscape. I'll try to dig up the site I found that one, maybe it was a mod and i didn't notice.

I just did root, and rotation used the Ultimate Rotation Control otherwise did not do anything in the UI. I am using the original Optimus UI.

The stock launcher does not support rotation, it is also why the screen will not rotate without third party software (like Ultimate Rotation Control).
So Ultimate Rotation Control is why everything looks messed up.
THX for the answer
Yes, I know about the locked rotation, but the rom 4.1.2 (if I remember correctly) functioned normally also used in my S2 and was normal, some form of APP by correction or something that can be done.
