hi,
using xperia arc, bootloader unlocked, flash cm7.1 stable version(which is on the main site). everything is fine.
Here is the problem, when plug usb into my laptop (not the one that I used to unlock my phone bootloader), it shows the USB is connected, usb debug enabled. However, when i try to check the USB tethering checkbox, it will automatically uncheck it for me.
wifi hotspot work as i am using it to sent this post.
*edit: windows 7 32bit btw.
thanks.

So i tried to do some USB tethering today.. and it would not work.. because I am running windows xp on my laptop....
with the OTA it states i need to run Vista, or higher..
anyone know how to fix this?
Thanks
It runs on XP just fine. Make sure you downloaded the CORRECT pc app, there are flavors for all the operating systems. I have XP running and it works fine on my system. There is a wireless app that also works with the G2 now and if all else fails you could do that, too...
Good Luck!
make sure you have HTC sync on your comp and it will work np
HTC sync.. just download it from HTC site?
should be nice and easy..
yep just install it and restart
plug the phone in and on the phone turn on usb tether
Is there a specific one for the g2.. or does any touch sync work for it?
yea there is hold on
err. if i find it ill post the link
try this

its for the desire z but its the same phone
G2 tethering
You got the OTA update that enables wifi calling and usb/wireless tethering, right?
On your G2 Go to Settings, Wireless & networks, Tethering & portable hotspots, Help.
Under this help guide, go to the website link for USB listed there.
Go to this website and choose "USB Tethering with Windows XP"
Download the INF file "tetherxp.inf"
On your G2 check the "USB tethering" option, and connect your G2 via USB cable to your computer. Instead of using windows to automatically seach for drivers, direct the wizard to the "tetherxp.inf" file.
This will also work for Windows 7 if your having problems tethering there.
Thanks, this worked like a charm. Hopefully it's better than PDANet, which seems to slow down my phone like crazy (whenever I run it Launcher Pro becomes unresponsive at times).
Could someone help me on this issue. When i connect my phone via usb to my laptop and on other different laptops/computers i've tried so far, it only charges the phone without mounting sd card or allowing data transfer. I'm using an O2 branded stock htc desire running on froyo. i want to root my phone and install install a custom rom. i don't know how or if possible to make a goldcard without using a usb connection cable to a laptop/pc and for the other processes of rooting and installing a custom rom.
I took it for repairs and a new port was put in and still same problem persists.
You know that you have to manually select mount sd. Also have you tried to connect it via adb, not to transfer files but to see if i usb connection works?

For the adb connection, I think this will require USB cable connection or it's there a way to do this without USB cable connection.

Once you plug in your USB cable, you have to pull the top bar down and manually select to use it as a usb 'disk'...only then will you be able to load it with custom ROM.
As for rooting, I think you need to enable USB debugging for the UnRevoked method....

when i select it to use as usb disk, the laptop doesn't see it, same for usb debugging.
i tried using a usb hub with four ports to connect my phone to the laptop, the message i get is that '' this usb device is not recognised''. Pls why that message
Any help on this issue. I've been reading on usb brick phones and how to unbrick it. The problem is even when phone is connected via usb in fastboot mode, it still say device is not recognised. i was trying to get the CID number of the phone. i've never rooted or flash a custom rom yet. i started experiencing this when the phone fell on a concrete floor. i don't know if this is hardware related problem or software related.
As the title says basically
My phone will charge from the wall socket but I'm not getting any notifications when I attach it to my netbook. It fails to install the MTP drivers as well. I've had to resort to using a USB MicroSD adaptor when I need to copy files over but its starting to become annoying now.
Anyone have any idea how to get the USB functionality back to my device?
i would like to know too. I just flashed doomkernal and i cant get wifi to work, (even after enabling wifi in the build.prop) and it fails to install drivers when i connect it to my computer, i cannot enter mass storage mode.
Solved.
I flashed BLENDMIUI

I'd like to tether my phone to my Win7 64 PC so I can use my phone as my PC's internet connect. I am currently on CM10.0. The wireless hot spot works fine, but for personal reasons I want to make the data connection via USB.
I do have the USB divers installed so I can use Odin. I assume I need a different driver for tethering? I have poked around on xda, but there is so much information it is hard to find the relevant threads. Any help would be appreciated.
I haven't tried this in a while (and I only ever tested on XP), but I thought it was as easy as connecting the phone to the pc and enabling USB tether in the tethering settings menu on the device. At that point, a new network connection should show up in windows. If that's not the case, I'll have to try it again.

The phone only shows up as a USB storage device. Checking the "USB tethering" check box in the "tethering & portable hotspot" does not change this.
HOWEVER after more experimenting, I find that if I enable "Android debugging" on the phone, it now shows up as a modem in device manager with an exclamation point and the error: Device cannot start (Code 10). Reinstalling the drivers does not change the error.
Any ideas would be appreciated.

Here's an "any idea":
From the dialer dial:
- For CyanogenMod: *#*#8778#*#*
- For FC09: ##8778##
See if changing the USB option (or UART?) makes any difference.

Thanks to bbelos and Mr_You for the suggestions. And most of all for the information at it should work with what I have.
I was about to try Mr_You's suggestion. When I plugged the phone into the computer this morning the NDIS driver installed automatically. So problem solved. Apparently I need both USB tether and Android debugging selected. The phone shows up in device manager under "Network Adapters" as "Remote NDIS based Internet Sharing Device".
This is one of the features of Windows that drives me crazy--try the same thing again in a different day at it works. It may have been that I already had Android debugging selected before I enabled the USB tethering and plugged the phone into the PC.
Hi
I have a Sony Xperia Z 5 Premium dual e6833 model. a few days ago after about one month when i try to connect a usb flash via otg cable the usb not detected. I think after update to Android 6.0 (ota update) this problem has occured.then I download the 6.0 stock rom to flash via flash tools that i found phone can't connect to pc. Flash tools and Xperia companion can't recognize the phone however driver's installed.but Flash tools can detect phone in flashmode and fastbootmode. I flashed the 6.0 buildnumber 185 whit full wipe. But the problem not solved. Then 6.0 buildnumber 163. Then 6.0.1 buildnumber 224. Then 5.0 buildnumber 170 and all these fladhed whit full wipe. But the problem still not solved.
By the way... When I try to connect the phone to pc via usb cable it's not detecte by pc and no reaction in pc and phone. But when i turned off the phone and connect the phone to pc via usb cable and then turn on the phone Xperia companion and flash tools can recognize the phone and the pop up notification for selecting connection mode is shown in notification bar. But flash tools recognize the phone whit usb debugging off however the usb debugging is on and unknown source is active in setting.
In this situation if disconnect the phone and try to reconnect it the same problem is occured.
I tried to change the settings usb connection from setting - developer options- select usb configuration but the problem still not solved.
Please help me
Did you select the type of usb but connection on the phone? In 6.0 it gives you the various options such as charge only or mtp connection.

If i disconnect the phone and try to reconnect it again the same problem is occured.

Hi, for the otg connection there is a quick setting. I think sony found this solution to avoid problems with the open micro usb port and the IP67 certification. Try to connect a USB key to the phone and press the search usb quick setting, worked for me!

Where is this quick setting? Do you mean the detect usb device button in notification bar?
