if I've flashed the EC09 odin package, can I just flash the new modem?

Any chance we can get an Odin file? Also, why must you have the DL17 modem first?
Sent from my SCH-I400 using XDA

No chance getting an Odin package unless there's a leak :l
And exactly that^ because we don't have the actual modem file, you need to set the base as DL17, then patch our way to EC09...

There's no way to extract the modem from the update?
Sent from my SCH-I400 using XDA

Nope... You can extract the modem patch file, that's it... And that's what imnuts did

The update only contains a binary patch to go from DL17 to EC09. Unless you know how to use a binary patch to the file, this is what we have until someone finds or leaks the full EC09 file.

Well since we have the source code we can probably get the full modem soon shouldn't we? Correct me if I was wrong

Full modems only come from leaks that originate at Samsung or Verizon, and they aren't released as part of the source or anything.

Oh ok. Lol

Does this mean the update is merely code which modifies the DL17 modem and therefore is not a complete modem itself?

That is exactly what it is, lol

Question on EK02?

So anyone that has flashed EG31 cannot flash anything from EK02 at the moment?
Sent from my SPH-D710 using xda premium
yes. Just wait till the official release/leak.
You will be able to flash once we get an offiicial tar.

Kernel or ROM, yes. Modem, no
Sent from my SPH-D710 using xda premium
You cannot flash the ek02 MODEM update. You can flash the kernel and ROM. The easiest way to do that at this point is flash Calk's EK02 rom over in the dev section. This will give you everything except the modem.
Just to be clear, you are not waiting for the OTA. The full OTA has been extracted and posted. You are waiting for the tar, which comes around the time of the OTA usually. The tar is given to the Sprint technicians and one of them usually leaks it here. The OTA modifies files, it doesn't install a new modem or system, it modifies the one you have. if you don't have the files it is attempting to modify, the update fails.
Think of the OTA as a windows update and think of the tar as the windows installation cd.

Kies update and EK02?

Today got a notification for updating KIES, I updated and when tried to update my phone, it failed ofocurse, because I am already on leaked EK02 modem, but does it mean EK02 is installed on my PC and can be extracted? I am not sure if this will help the devs but just posting the pic of what I see.
I have never used kies but search around that directory and see if you can find a tar or zip file. Would probably be the same zip as the its but worth a shot.

Would Kies just have the delta also? Or because Kies is Samsung made could it possibly have the full .tar or modem.bin?
Kies is still showing me g30 as the latest

It is most likely the same update because if they issued a tar it would wipe all user data. Which I doubt they would do. But it is worth checking.

It was a Kies update I'm pretty sure as it does get updated more often then not.

Update modem via CWM Recovery.

Since the ota updates the baseband it should be possible to flash modems via cwm instead of relying on Odin. who has the ota update.zip all we gotta do is look at how they flash the modem and add a script to the update script to our roms.

Need help

I rooted my phone and installed cwm recovery and i'm wanting to unroot it and take it back to when I first got it it came with el29 how would I go about getting out unrooted,I downloaded the stock el29 ROM and was following qbkings guide to unroot with Odin but the file I have is a zip file and in the guide he is using a tar file inside the zip file is a .tar.md5 file do what do I do?
Sent from my SPH-D710 using XDA App
You should go back to the development section and download the .tar and flash that with Odin. But since you have the zip you just flash that through CWM and it'll take you back to stock.
Well that revert the cwm recovery to? And could you post a link to the tar file?
Sent from my SPH-D710 using XDA App
Try this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1433101
The cwm should stay the same I believe. I would use the. Tar.

You can stay rooted wait a day or 2 after the otas start being pushed and get a rooted version of the ota, the ota on sprint isnt starting march 1 like the intl version so it could still be a while most likely will be a month or so b4 sprint starts getting any ics otas as the leaks are still buggy

Update With Root?

My friend has a t mobile galaxy s3. He hasn't touched the build.prop or anything. If I put him on stock recovery, can he take the t mobile update?
Is there an app that can keep his root? He is on 4.1.1.
The only thing he messed with is root so he can do certain things.

Look it up.
If device status in the about phone menu says Modified, then it will not get an ota update (I assume thats what you are trying to do?).
Why not just flash the latest firmware uusing Odin? Better than an ota imo.
But to answer your question, the pro versions of Superuser, SuperSU, Mobile Odin can keep you rooted, or theres voodoo ota rootkeeper.
Sent from my SGH-T999 using xda premium
You could just download and flash a 4.1.2'stock rooted ROM. Then you don't have to use Odin and can keep root.
Sent from my SGH-T999 using xda premium
That way doesn't net you the full update though.

What do you mean it "doesn't net you the full update"?
Sent from my SGH-T999 using xda premium
By flashing a stock rooted rom in recovery you are only flashing the system partition.
To get the full update you have to flash the firmware in Odin. This way you get the updated bootloader, modem, and 4 other partition updates.

There are flashable zips to update the bootloader and modem.
What are the other 4 partition updates?
Sent from my SGH-T999 using xda premium
Yes, but also, if you go the Odin route, its just a single flash, plus if using root66 it doesnt make the device status modified.
The additional partitions included in a firmware package are:
Aboot
Boot
Cache
Modem
Recovery
Rpm
Sbl1
Sbl2
Tz
I believe flashing the firmware package you mentioned does flash all of them, but the only reason I can see to use it is if you want the updates, but do not want to flash /system.
Otherwise, imo, you're better off using Odin to flash the root66 package.

I was just mentioning the flashable zips because it sounds like his friend wanted to keep root and to simply update the phone.
Also, just flashing one of the already rooted 4.1.2 ROMs will not flash the latest radio (which has been causing problems such as slower data speeds and a weaker signal).

Right, I know. The ota update includes more than a rom does though, so I just mentioned it in case he didn't know
As for the radio/modem, data speed and signal strength will vary, mostly depending on location. I wouldnt say there have been problems with it though. Itll be better for some and worse for others. The only way for each person to know is for them to try it. And if you want the best modem, you unfortunately have to just test them all out. (The map in my thread is there to help with this though. You should check it out if you haven't already.)

As long as it's 100% stock, not rooted, device status = normal, and all firmware matches (kernel, baseband, sbl's, tz, rpm), then yes you can get the OTA.
If status is normal, but anything else isn't right, it can try the OTA but it will fail.
I'm just curious though, why go through all that trouble just to get updated via ota? There are easier ways such as flashing firmware via Odin. Or if you really just want to try the OTA, you can download it from my firmware thread.
