the last month i've notice that the Google Services have been eating up my data usage, more than 200mb per month in background data, does anyone know why this happen?

Um, that shows less than 2mb used. If you are actually having issues, turn off Google + and other services' sync functionality in settings.

Is the posted image indicative of your data usage? 2mb over 10 days doesn't seem like there is any problem at all. If you want 0, then turn off auto sync completely in settings -> accounts & Sync

The image was mine....to show what the Google services says when clicked as an example of what it is using data for.
He said 200mb in a month....sounds like he has a lot of contacts synced, maybe a lot of other data being synced also (settings etc from what the app looks like it would be used for.)
Edit: just thought of this....how often do you use network location (checkin services, GPS, maps, etc.)?

same problem for me, 100 MB in 1 night.
Data usage monitor in ICS is fantastic: you can analyze all the past by moving the 2 rulers!
About the solution, please share.
I have picture sync only wifi, can it be a late bug?
In case I stopped the syncing, will see what happens

System Update Uses Mobile Data
Hey Guys,
I had the same problem last night - I got a Data Usage warning because Google Services started downloading the Latest System Update!
I guess there's no option to "allow an update over WiFi" Only ... THANKS GOOGLE! - LET ME CHOOSE IF I WANT YOUR UPDATE OR NOT ... idiots...
Anyways, to fix it:
Disable Background data for Google Services completely (Settings -> Data Usage -> Google Services -> Restrict Background Data)
Then go find a WiFi hotspot and re-enable it so you can get your System update.

hi guys since last two weeks im experiencing that google services is using about 100mb per HOUR that is shocking ,this dint happen before .I used to have background data services active ,google facebook news twitter sync active all the time even then it used to be hardly 40-50 mb a day.now i have switched the background data off ,but its of no use as the 3g signal bar grays out and I dont get any push messages or alerts ,and when Iam back home the mobile leeches on to my wifi and consumes approx 1GB data a day.out of which 95% is used my google services and 5% by Facebook twitter whatsapp news weather and other heavy widgets and apps.
so i assume there is some issue with google services in my mobile as contact bookmark sync cannot use 900mb (approx) a day .
Im on 4.2.1 , two things, also around two weeks back I had reinstalled the ROM ,dont know how a reinstall can cause a problem and when i goto settings>apps>running apps i can see maps running in background( dont know if its a default thing) even though I have switched off the location access etc and did not use maps since this problem started .

same problem here... 1GB overnight.. i'll research in it tonight. but i dont think its the updated cuz i'm on slimROM which doesnt update unless i flash an update through cwm.

You can't turn off background data for certain apps?

It is happening to me too, started 3 days ago.
I'm adding some screenshots about it.
These threads [1], [2] talk about the OTA for 4.3 being downloaded by the Google Services app.
Maybe disabling the receiver for the update received as this guy comments [3] may solve the problems.
However, in my personal case I think updating the phone is always a good thing, and 4.3 should come with the Master Key bug fixed, so it's worth a try updating anyway :good:

From the 31st August which was yesterday until today the 1st September Google Services used 472MB.
I have no explanation for that as I do not think that it is a ROM update OTA. I am using Cyanogen Mod.
Does anyone have another idea? I disabled Google Now completely now as I thought maybe that is the problem. It was exactly the same last month...same time period. Something seems to happen between the last days of a month and the first one or two days of the new month :-/

same problem here...got data warning sms after google downloaded approx. 180mb over night on JellyBear 4.3.3
Now I'm on CM hoping that crap doesnt happen again.

[Q] Data Usage

I just noticed that suddenly Google Services start using more data over the few days period. Previously it was not the case. Currently data usage is around 220 MB for 14 days, out of total 99 MB has been used by Google Services and all data usage is in background. I doubt it might be one of major reason, I start loosing my battery less than day.
Are other people facing or Am I alone in the ship.
Recently I did not install any new application which is main culprit of this.
For record purposes, I am using GSM 4.0.2

No. Don't have Google Music Sync
What does it list? Mine says 0 foreground and 1.04 mb in the background for an entire month. Listed is Bookmarks sync, account manager, services framework, contacts sync, network location.
Did you clear all of your contacts from your phone? Do you have a couple thousand contacts with pictures?
It mentioned contact bookmarks and all in background 100 Mb in 14 days.
Don't have thousand of contacts with photos only 20 to 25 max
perhaps any other things you are syncing? (google+ for example?)
Did you ever find out what was causing the issue? I've noticed the same thing recently and haven't been able to track down why Google Services is suddenly using so much data.

Tried turning that off and it didn't help much. Still on the same pace for data usage as zoobihoobi. Google services has used 100Mb in 7 days and last month it used 11Mb for the entire month.

I've gone from 3-5mb monthly to 80 in 6 days, an then it has tapered off again so that it's back to much the same. Any ideas?

I am constantly installing and updating apps, so maybe one of these apps is very hungry, but how can I check this out?

I have the same problem with my G Nex. Went from about 5MB/month to 80Mb/week and 21MB used only yesterday.
I found a possible cause on the galaxynexusforum. I can't post links in this forum yet, so go to the forum and search for a thread titled: "problems with google services framework"
In this thread it has been suggested that it may have something to do with the syncing of the stock browser. And indeed, when I went to the sync setting, the only indicator of currently syncing was shown next to the browser. I deactivated it. I will report back in a day or two, if that was any help.
Meanwhile, maybe some of you want to give it a shot as well.

Well... Noticed as well. Google services now reaching around 300MB since 15/03 ... Something is not right... I have no syncing except Gmail (email, calendar)...
I have a problem like this before, some exchange services was using huge amounts of data and battery constantly...
What I did was disable my Exchange Mail accounts.. (remove them)... After I confirmed that was the problem, I re-added my exchange accounts and the problem hasn't reoccurred..

Hey all.
So finally got the OTA update to 4.2.2 last night, but now im getting a "RPC:S-5:AEC-0" error every time i try to update or install any apps via the Google Play Store. Now i have seen some people with the same problem that say that it will just fix itself. I have also seen other people that say that deleting and re-adding your Google account to the device will work. Problem is, I don't have the option to delete my Google account. The only option i have is "Sync now", no "Remove account" options like all the other linked accounts.
So, really, i guess i have 2 questions:
1. Does anyone know of a sure fire way to fix the "RPC:S-5:AEC-0" error?
2. Does anyone know of a way that i can remove my Google account so i can re-add it?

To remove the Google account you need to be in the list of apps and then select the menu item to remove account.

This is more common than you'd think....just remove your Google account under settings and re-add the Google account works like a charm

GOT IT! Had to go into the "Accounts" option in my Contacts section and there i was able to delete and re-enter the account! thanks for all the help everybody! Greatly appreciated! Drinks are on me!

I also have this [RPC:S-5:AEC-0] error for weeks now, and I can't solve it. I've exchanged emails with google support, but with no solution found. What I've tried so far:
- Removing and re-adding the google account
- Adding a second account, removing the first one, re-adding the first one, removing the second;
- clear data and cache from Google Services Framework, Download manager; Play store, in several different combinations (only data, only cache, cache then data, data then cache, reboot, no reboot, etc...)
- Factory reset my Nexus - yes, I went that far, with no result.
Anyone with new ideas? Thanks.

Removing and re-adding the account was the only thing that was able to work for me. I dont know where you are trying that from, but give it a shot from the "account" options in the "Contacts" section of the phone. that was the only way it worked for me.
That also didn't work, but thanks for the tip. Still going desperate...

Same boat as you with the "rpc:s-5:AEC-0" error when viewing my apps for about a week or so now. Wanted to post in this thread as it was first result for "rpc:s-5:AEC-0" in Google and had comments about trying everything with no luck.
I'm running JellyBeans 13 ROM and just came from an older version of CleanRom with the same issue. I've tried everything listed below. Also want to note I was on version 3.?.? of Google Play in CleanRom and JellyBeans flashes 4.0.25 My issue from CleanRom was that none of my apps would update...they would error out when i tried to update all. I fixed that particular issue by "clearing data" and "force closing" Google play under application management. From there though... which I don't know if it was like this before or after I just did that but I noticed the "rpc:s-5:AEC-0" error when viewing my apps right after.
Tried everythign in the below sites with every varying combination possible.

Removed my Google accounts (all accounts in fact..skype, linkedin, facebook, etc) via accounts under system menu AND once via contacts menu.
Wiped data from Google Play store, Google services framework and Google Play service in every combination possible. I also wiped dalvik cache and cache between a few of these attempts as well.
Cleanly Flashed JellyBeans 13 ROM (and damn its nice. highly recommended with Perseus kernel)
Uninstalled 4.0.25 via titanium backup, reboot, dalvik cache/cache wipe and installed 3.10.14 with no luck. Just installed 4.0.25 again and having the same issue.
Also I've been checking Google play on my desktop throughout this entire ordeal with the account that has all my purchase and its been saying "We're sorry, there was an error. Please try again later." when clicking my apps.....no issues looking at my videos or my music.
Cannot repurchase old apps. States "an error occurred while processing your purchase. please try again later' as well as "this purchase can not be refunded because you have previously bought this item"
I can purchase new apps no problem. And when I restore paid apps via Titanium back up they work and are recognized in the market as installed and paid for.
A few questions and opinions for posters
You said you have been emailing Google support about it. What are they telling you or having you try?
What happened before or when you noticed this? How long...as in maybe a Google side issue?
What does your Google play account say when viewing my apps via desktop browser?
Are you on a custom ROM or made any changes at all to your market settings?
What version of Google play are you running?
It seems from what I've read and with everything I've tried it could very well be on Google's end and how they identify your gmail or some associated account ID. I've read people fixing the "rpc:s-5:AEC-0" issue by restoring their previously fond ID when prompted in Titanium backup. But I found no such previous ID to backup to within TB....and never hear if they cannot view their apps via desktop browser similar to my issue.
If it was fixed by simply removing and re-adding accounts for you....it's like something triggered or matched correctly on Google's end to make the proper association. Or not. At a loss at this point.
Trying to answer all your questions:

- Google support says they know of the problem, and are passing all the info to their engineers, sorry about everything, etc...
- Stock, locked, unrooted maguro running 4.2.2 (rooted sometime before 4.2.2 was out, back to full stock since then)

- I can see my purchases if I login to google wallet
- Some apps I cannot install, some I can; I can never update an app directly, have to find the app in a desktop browser and send it to the phone

This error happens if you are logged in with your Google ID on an android device, then you log in again with the same Google account on another device, BUT the time zone setting is different. This may happen if you just bought a cheap Chinese tablet, smartphone etc. and added your Google account in Settings, BUT missed to set your correct time zone (by replacing the default Beijing Time).

I don't think I have ever done that, but anyway, that would be the cause - what is the solution? And FYI, I got a message from Google saying this is now "Known Issue #7582577".
You aren't alone. I worked with Google on this issue and after 6 weeks they sent me an e-mail with a link to their known issues page. I have 3 devices and they are all doing the same thing. Can't access any of the over $100 worth of apps. This is very frustrating. Also, I tried checking the time zones and they are all set to Central Time.

I don't have 100$ of apps, but am also frustrated for not having access to the apps I paid for. And now I'm weary of buying new apps (sometimes I don't get the error and can reach the payment phase for new apps), because I don't know what will happen next. One would think that Google would be better at handling the opportunity to get our money...

I got the same problem, tried the removing/readding my account theory and that worked. I noticed that Google Talk stopped itself. Since I don't have an issue anymore, can someone try clearing data/cache/force quit on the Talk app and see if that works before messing with the Google account?

Tried it, doesn't work. Also tried adding Talk to the group of apps to which I was previously clearing data/cache (play store, download manager, google services framework, google play services), reboot and... still doesn't work.
I've mentioned I have done a factory reset on my GN, and it didn't solve the problem - so it clearing data and cache on whatever won't solve my problem, there is some problem with my account on google side.
Another thing I've been seeing is that I can install and update some apps, but not others. I wonder if this has something to do with the permissions required by the apps...

Just picked up the T800 Monday. Love it .
For some reason I keep getting a "Calender has stopped" message every 15-20 min. I did turn off a few apps but nothing calender related.
Haven't rooted or frozen anything.. Yet.
Any ideas what is causing this?
I had this a few times then went away. It was becuase of something i delted or turned off. What apps did you turn off?
I'm having exactly the same issue but with s-planner
Mine kept doing this also. I just froze the 4.4.x calendar app and installed the new one from Lollipop and haven't seen the message since.

I would trying clearing data for the Calendar and Calendar Storage apps. I assume your calendar data is synced or backed-up somewhere.
(Settings > Applications > [select applications] > Clear Data

Didn't helped.
If you check the play store reviews of the Google Calendar, they aren't good at all. A lot of gripes about the new version. I don't what the deal is with google, seems every time they "update" an apk, they make it worse than it already was. They pretty much ruined Talk (Hangouts) and google+ is a total mess to use. I still can't figure out WHY they feel like I can't have the permission to write to the external SD card unless I use their stupid file manager! This REALLY ticks me off and if I can't do it in Lollipop, I might just dump all my Android stuff and go to Windows devices.
Fire ALL the devs at google and hire some people that CAN code!

the damn thing always suck hours of CPU, ****ing fed up to wake up in the morning and see battery left only ~60%.

had tried install GServiceFix, uninstall any apps that might be accessing play service or GPS or sync, disable sync, etc. last night disable location and that's the only time play service didn't top the battery usage.
any suggestion?
This may sound like a stupid question, but did it take care of various updates at all? I've never ever known google play to take up any significant battery. Things like Facebook do take up the battery, and Facebook in particular takes the longest time to install and update for some reason and, despite a 45-ish MB apk size, takes up a good 200+MB.
But some other apps also use significant CPU and battery power as well.

Its a system service within Android OS, can't uninstall, can't stop or disable. almost all google apps need it to function, many other apps also rely on it. If its 3rd party app, we can easily iron it out and just trash it, not this.
This is not the first time I experience google play service draining the battery, some time it happen after it was updated, sometime after OS/firmware upgrade, other times, it just feel like draining my battery. I never able to solve it, despite many many claimed solutions on the web. then after few weeks or so, everything back to normal.
I do not have social apps running in the background, only whatsapp. I can only guess its the location service that's causing this issue but I can't pin point which one. I need google map to check real time traffic and route planing, disable location is out of the question.
I'm asking if anyone else is having the same issue or its just me.
Hmm do you by chance have the Google photos backup on and maybe you take a lot of photos that are being backed up overnight? Been there done that, that's why I'm asking..

I'm 99% sure it's Auto-Sync under Accounts. I have a VZW version of the 10 but I found that was my culprit.
Mine from Android core apps but I don't know what. This stuff didn't show up in built in battery menu.

I do have photo backup sync on, but only with "charger connected", had confirmed that if charger is not connected, new photo won't appear in google photo site.

I also disabled all sync before, still, it suck battery.

Had unstalled all 3rdp arty apps except whatsapp, reboot and full charge later, same thing.
don't know what to do anymore, can only hope it goes back to normal in the next few week, like it did many time when I was using M7.
I had similar issue, phone was always awake because of play services. Apparently a bug with Google backup. For me only factory reset solved the problem, disabling backup service didn't solved awake issue.

that suck! factory reset will wipe all the config I had in the last few weeks. didn't do any system backup cause never thought a few weeks old phone can have this issue. darn!

I might have found a temporary fix, I revoke all apps permission and allow only those I think needed the access. disable most location permission, including google's, except some that would not work without location, eg. Google Maps.
This got me at work once, 100% to 7,% in 3 hours, rebooted and charged and now google play services is fine
This happened to me just a few days ago. Didn't go away even after a clean install. I noticed that NlpWakeLock was causing over 100,000 wakelocks. I had smartlock enabled to automatically unlock my phone at my home address. I turned that option under smartlock off and the battery drain hasn't happened again.
The first time I've encountered this bug (after installing Allo), wiping the cache partition seem to have solved the issue.
The second time I've encountered this bug (after updating my phone for the Sept Security updates), nothing seem to work. I've try uninstalling the Play Service updates, disabling, clearing cache, changing power saving options, using that GService Fix app, etc.
What did work was this morning, I tried disabling all Google Service related permission. Restart my phone, reenable all permission, and restart.

That was what I did few days ago, for a few days, it works, or maybe we thought.
2 days ago, back to square one, Google Play Service still top the chart.
I gave up already, instead of wasting time finding why it happen, I decided to buy QC 3.0 chargers, 3x wall charger and 2x car chargers. So my family don't have to worry about phone run out of juice.(I'm a HTC fanboy, bought One E8, Desire Eye and Butterfly 2, for my family.)

I tried all of the "fixes" I could find and nothing helped... Yesterday I had no drain, today the phone is awake all the time by Google Play Services... One hour ago I managed to fix the problem by going into Settings->Apps->Google Play Services. Then press "Storage" and click "Manage Space" . At the bottom I clicked CLEAR ALL DATA. This did not delete any important data, do not be afraid (or google it) I did not loose anything. I did not notice anything missing. After "CLEAR ALL DATA" I went back and uninstalled updates, and reboot, then again go the same steps described above - when I pressed Uninstall updates the second time, it looked like it uninstalled Google Play Services completely... I could not go into play store, I could not add google account, but I rebooted and it automatically installed the app back. I logged in my google account, so my contacts, etc came back and now there is no wakelock anymore..

Thanks for replies, I disable "trust location" in Smart Lock and for the day, it no longer drain my battery! will monitor for a few days and report back.

My exact same thought, Google should at least list which app is asking for attention and being rouge. instead it hide everything from us and not letting us catching the culprit.

"Device x from location y, from that eediot named z, woke up at x:<<:y<<:z<< hs, from day ..." when you open apps, the gmsCore is sending logs to their servers decide, what they will or not destroy or patch against you on your device.

It could be almost anything that's cause wakelocks for Google play services.
Have you tried deactivating Sync over night?

Question 2FA Google Phone Prompt not working?

Is anyone's Google Phone Prompt 2FA working on the Pixel 6? I found two other people on Pixel Reddit that has an issue with their Pixel 4a and the issue started after updating to Android 12. I too have Pixel 4a and can't get Google Prompt to work on either phones.
I have an old Moto e6 on Android 9, I signed in and right away Google Prompt works worked fine on my previous S20 week before I got my 6.
I've tried everything on my Pixel 6 to try and get it to work, just won't. Signed out of Google on phone and sign back in, made sure Play Services is updated, cleared data in Play Services, etc...
Works for me. I think there's always one more place where you have to set things. I don't particularly remember four days ago where exactly I got to where I needed to, somewhere in Google's Security section.

I was having the same issue after wiping and rooting, and managed to fix it by doing the following:
1. (From your computer) Go into your Google account settings > Security checkup. Sign your Pixel out.
2. Sign back into Google from the notification you should receive on the phone a few seconds after
3. Clear all data for Google Play Service and (this part may be unnecessary but I did it) open the Google app to make sure it starts back up
4. Make sure background data is enabled for Google Play Services. If it is, you should be good to try again.

I've done various combinations of this before, and just tried it again per your instructions, still no go.
EDIT: I figured it out, it was the Device & App Notifications setting in Notifications. Make sure Google Play Services is allowed/enabled. So weird why it wasn't in the first place!
EDIT2: Hmm it worked once to set it up, now trying to sign in on another computer and Google Prompt not popping up on my phone.
I am seeing the exact same behavior, it works once for me to set it up, but not when I actually sign in. The prompt shows up on my work phone with android 11 but not my pixel pro. The "use your phone to sign in" works fine. Google One support has been zero help. The idiots keep telling me that 2fa is text message only or they send the same steps over and over again. SIGH. My account is on my kids pixel 4a with Android 12 and they get the prompts as well.
I also have some issues with 2FA google phone prompt. It works without a problem on my P3 and P4 XL, but only occasionally on my P6 XL. It (in about 60% of the cases) either won't even show or it bugs out (error bla whatever after using the prompt). It's very unreliable as of now, and it's not solely an Android 12 issue (both P3 and P4 run A12 and work).
I guess its another software bug we can pile on the P6 in combination with A12^^
Those with problem, can you try something? Reboot your phone, wait 2-3 minutes till it's fully booted and try to sign in on other devices to see if you'll get a pop up on your Puxel 6 pro. I found for past week that lots of notifications started to delay for hours. Not all notifications but most of them. For example Gmail, Home Assistant, Aliexpress, etc. And pop up for 2fa as well. I found that reboot fixes problem for short period of time and then problem returns. It started suddenly as I said about a week ago. Can someone confirm that after reboot they get pop up for 2fa?

I just fixed this for myself. I think this issue started for me after an Android OS upgrade plus factory reset.
Open your Google account settings from the smartphone you want to setup as a 2FA security key.
Manage your Google Account
Click on Security Tab
Select 2-Step Verification
Click on Security Key Chevron
Click on Add security key
Follow the prompts to add your current smartphone as a security key
Just tested yesterday after clearing browsing data/cache. Popped up on my pixel 6 pro perfectly.
