Just thdm other day,i was going to make a nandroid backup using skin's cwm then i encounterd a problem, it cant make a backup,it said backing up system failed or something like that, i rebooted it then checked the file in the backup folder,it contained a file named system rfs.tar and it was a whopping 1gig file! Which consumed my entire free sdcard space,i deleted it then tried to do another backup, same thing happened for 3 times,i am wondering what happened cause ive already made 2 succesful backups prior to that, does anyone here experienced this?and how can i fix this, thanks for your time for reading my long post, lol

Maybe you don't have enough space in your SD?

i think i have enough free space,I still have 1gb free, and i was backing up 300+mb only, i also tried backingup on my fresh 2gb sdcard but the same thing happend, it ate the entire free space on the 2gig card,i dont know what went wrong, tried googling for answers but i found none.

You will need to be more specific when you say sdcard...the GS3 has an internal storage that is considered an SD card in android, as well as an external SD Micro slot beside the sim card. It sounds like maybe your internal storage has become corrupted possibly. Do you have a file explorer app? If so can you browse to /sdcard? Are there any files there? If there are and you can open them then it could just be a bad backup, if you cant then the storage is corrupt. If it is corrupted a format will fix you up at the exspense of losing whatever may be on it. If a format fails to correct the problem you likely have a defective device. Try accessing the internal sdcard manually and let us know what happens. As far as the external storage goes, unless you have installed an SD Micro in your phone nothing will happen when you try to backup to it as it is, in fact, empty.
Yes i can root explore to them both i have micrs sd also. Sorry for not clarifying. I could use to backup to external.. no more. Guess ill try and format thrm?? Sorry for typos using phone. I had my original backup on internal sd.. the stock. It became corrupt and when i backed up yesterday then factory wipe reset etc.. i tried to restore to the exact backup just made it replied no m5 match..

Woah, easy there tiger....there is an edit button if you need to make changes to a post. Im sure the modderators are not going to be too happy with a quadruple post! :silly:
On to your issues, yes i have noticed with CMW recovery the dating system seems to be borked, atleast with the last 5.x version i used which does make deciding which file to restore from. The fact that you are getting MD5 mismatches seems to confirm the fact that your flash memory file system is corrupt, or possibly you have a bad recovery all together. If you can explore to the sd card you can copy the data off of it to a safer location while you determine the exact problem so as no to loose anything that could possibly be good. I would also recommend you download Clockwork Rom Manager from the market and install the latest recovery, 6. something or other. This may solve you problems all together.
P.S. - I got the error about android-secure.img every time i restorded (the error shows during the backup also if i recall) with CMW but it didnt seem to have any effect on the restore process
Yes i forgot to edit.my bad im on my phone. I uninstalled the cwm i had on phone redownloaded from playstore. Solved my date prob. So i must have downed a bad copy from a diff thread vs thr play store.. formatted both sd cards.. so lost tons but hey starting fresh aint so bad. With the premium cwm is touch included i could use free version.. thats what i did last time and had the isuue from manually install. Thanks for your help.

You're welcome, glad to hear you got it sorted it out :good:. I have recently switched to TWRP recovery which seems to me to be a bit more reliable, although i have not used CWM's touch so i dont have any ground for comparison and this perception could simply be a placebo effect.
To make a long story short... while I was in the process of updating my phone from android 4.2.1 to 4.2.2 I was getting frustrated by the multiple /0 directories in recovery. On androidcentral i read that all you had to do was update your recovery and poof..back to normal. I was originally on CWM recovery but I kept reading that TWRP was better so I decided to try it out.. I downloaded TWRP, it didnt fix the multiple directories and I didnt like it so I went back to CWM.
While doing some more reasearch I read that all you had to do was move the contents of the duplicate /0 folder to the first one. I decided to give it a go and i MISERABLY failed. Instead of simply dragging and dropping I DELETED THE 2ND of the 3 /0 folders. Not realizing that the third /0 folder was where all my storage was.... So now I have 0 backups because I went from CWM to TWRP and I have none of my data. Is there ANY POSSIBLE way to fix this...:crying: :crying:
I don't believe so. Unless the erase failed or you made a backup in Kies.

I forgot to add, halfway through the delete I realized what I was doing and I stopped it, does this change anything?
Look in your sd folders. It might have saved some things, but I dunno if it would have kept much from being deleted.

All I did was trying to copy and paste some files onto my laptop and they all disappeared completely
Both my external and internal was completely wiped clean for no reason
I dont know what i say or do
Can anyone tell me what just happened or any advice to attempt to recover my data (i highly doubt there is)
FYI i have the important data backed up such as photo and text, everything else is gone
On your external, you could use something like Recuva. It is a data recovery software and I am pretty sure it's free.
Didn't work.... But thanks

I had similar issue when I installed 4.2.2 roms. It wiped out internal storage most the times. So far it doesn't wipe external yet.. I'm just making sure my backups are on external anymore.. it sucks we don't know root cause of this...

Just recently rooted my friend's GN2, I transfered the files to the SD card and went into CWM recovery. I'm having 2 issues.
1: The phone says there's not enough room to make a backup when there clearly is. I have about 2 gigs on the internal, but but it either says I have 3mb of free space or 0.
2: I click 'install from SD' and the only file it sees is "-clockworkmod/ ".
What am I doing wrong? I personally have an S2 and it's very similar but these two things are preventing me from flashing any rom.

Would everything on the internal be lost?

What I do is copy titanium backup folder and music or whatever i wanna keep. To my desktop. Format the sd. Then copy back my stuff to sd. System files remain untouched. If that doesn't work,a bad flash was taken. And full wipe and reinstall of rom, will be needed. You can do this in recovery and all will be fine. Your system files will regenerate on first boot up,after sd format.

Sweet thanks I'll try that

Alright so I did a Nandroid backup and it says no sd-ext found skipping or something like that. I heard it doesn't matter but it's really bothering me!!! Help!
when you was doing your nandroid back up it always says that because we dont partically use external sd to install apps so the nandroid just looks in your external for installed apps and if you dont which most of us dont have it skips the process totally normal bro
Well I accidentally deleted some stuff and now it's saying that and I'm sure it didn't before. I'd there anyway to fix it?

I recommend wiping the sd card after backing up important files. After you wipe format the sd card and you should be able to use from there. I'm pretty sure some files are just corrupted.
