two days ago ive installed CM6.1 and first thing i noticed when i tested some games the GPU performance was better
to give an example, angry birds runs liquid smooth without any of the previous judder it actually runs like iphone4, while asphalt 5 performs much better with much less frame drops
i tried ask around what makes cynogenmod runs games better with no help and i'm pissed we don't have the same performance with sense roms even though with richard's kernel the cpu performace is amazing, it was clearly not related to OC, so i kept trying different sense roms until i tried AuraxTsense 7.9 and i finally i got the same results, i'm getting 31.9fps on neocore and angry birds running 60fps without judder, asphalt 5 performing a lot better too, by the way this results at the default 998mhz on demand
the new addition to auraxTsense

Tho i've noticed running 2d+3d sections only on quadrant advance with both roms, CM6 is still getting better scores...not a big deal anyway: like 139 vs 184, and it seems that CM is doing better mostly the 2d part of the bench (tho idk about the "stock" CM, cause on mine i'm running the vorkKernel 7.1).
This said i would never have expected such a great improvement on a sense rom, thanks for raising the question man, somebody had to do that sooner or later.
Thanks to you and to snq-'s great job now gaming performances aren't for aosp/cm roms only

[UPDATE 4]
I've tested various games and apps at stock 998mhz interactive
Quadrant
2D: 265 vs 276
3D: 326 vs 383
angry brids the best game to benefit, very smooth frame rate, very enjoyable
asphalt 3.1.8 runs better and smoother
asphalt 3.2.1 runs at an even higher fps best version
asphalt 3.3.2 runs the same as 3.1.8
reckless racing inconsistent frame rate but less severe frames drop when facing other cars
assassin creed, hero of sparta better frame rate
need for speed shift very smooth it was good before but now its even more smooth, very impressive
backbreaker higher fps a little unstable
the mod seems to uncap higher frame rate and removes judder (something like VSYNC unlock in pc games) however in some games this seem to cause inconsistency in frame rate between very high and drops
either way its a very impressive upgrade and makes a lot of games more enjoyable especially 2D games, i think this the best we can achieve without having to switch to Cyanogen based Roms

Well i'd like to get that little boost a lot too, but if the developer doesn't want to release it there's not much we can do about it, it's his own choice and maybe he wants it to be his special "trade mark" lol...unless somebody here is able to reproduce something similar we don't stand a chance i'm afraid :/
why not? the improvements to the kernel should be open source under GPL and i'm talking specifically about the GPU patch
i think richardTrip can add it to his kernel

well no, it should be added to a kernel we use on all sense ROMs or release the kernel standalone, as far as i can tell the code is also there in Cyangenmod 6.1
by the way the auraxTsense kernel still lacks the SD fix
so our best bet is adding this to richardTrip's now essential kernel
Indeed, I couldn't find the source of the modified kernel (by Flohimself) in AuraxTSense v7.9 thread.
So I think it breaks the GPL2 license by not releasing the source.

The patch is good for fps and stability, but it makes a little cpu slower (that i have seen at the mo)
I didn't see any CPU losses yet, but eitherway its worth it since our CPU is quite good already and can be OCed while the GPU is lacking and a little depraved in the gaming department

Is an inperceptive cpu loss, only noticeable with quadrant, about 1-30 point less, but that you say, with overclock don't matter, better for gaming because is not noticeable 20 30 points.
Guess that would be amazing for HD ROM's as u get about 200 points more on quadrant anyway, now imagine with this fix, HD ROM, SD fix and now GPU these dev' are just amazing

P.S. this kernel is stock (without swap, ext..., etc). If you want more space on your phone, I advise to use SystemCleanup from GooglePlay (you can long press on any system app and choose "update system app" for any stock app, EXCEPT for updated HTC clock widget - it will break it). If you need other frequency... tough luck, you have to do it yourself (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1500419)

Yes, 480-806 ondemand, but it goes to 245 in sleep and also has htc stock perflock driver which I noticed it increases out-of-sleep response without affecting battery as much as smartass (personal opinion only)

then you are the unlucky owner of a lazy Wildfire S
Not impressed at all.
First of all, to any that were complaining their WiFi broke after applying this kernel, mine works just fine. That is the (only) good news.
The kernel itself isn't that useful. You've got a LIMITED amount of frequencies (19 Mhz? For real?) The only overclocked speed is 806Mhz. And finally, when I set CPU options with No-Frills, the settings don't stick (in fact, they are translated wrong.) I pick 600 Mhz max, but the kernel runs at 806 Mhz max. (wtf?)
This kernel might be good for some phone, but not our Wildfire S.
Soon, marvel will be part of the cm project. So, a new working kernel will be around.

Come on, this is STOCK kernel. (which has perflock and NO settings = SetCPU does NOT work, as in original kernel).
This kernel is not for you, it's for people which have better things to do than trying frequencies/governors (kernel only has top speed modified from 600Mhz to 806Mhz, that's all!!!).

I found overclocking the GPU helps a lot more. There is a kernel for jellybean rom (a.k.a. CM10) and may work for ICS and the GPU overclock helps a lot. Use built in CM over clocker @ 1.5 GHz and GPU @ <400 MHz or whatever speed the kernel builder put it at. The original GPU clock speed was around 350 MHz or something so that is a substantial boost in terms of speed. Other then some heating when playing games no problems and perfectly stable. Battery doesn't seem to drop a bit maybe 1 or 2% faster.

Ladies and mentlegen,
I have found an app on the Google Play store called MOBILE GPUMARK by Silicon Studio. It was released on the 2nd of November, and its quite an app. Its for Apple devices and Android devices, and its the BEST GPU benchmark I've found.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=jp.co.siliconstudio.MOBILEGPUMARK (Google Play Link)
The app has four tests.
1. Rigid Gems
View attachment 1511334
You can select benchmark or demo mode. Use the menu to adjust effects in demo mode.
Gems have 300 ~ 600 polygons. Rings have 832 polygons.
2. Dead Parking
View attachment 1511335
In demo mode, you can add zombies, add shadows, and adjust effects. Best test in my opinion.
24 zombies have a total of 2,000 polygons. Main character (benchmark only) has 3,300. Background has 13,000 polygons.
3. Natural Bone
View attachment 1511336
In demo mode, you can add shadows and adjust effects.
Character has 12,000 polygons. The background has 150,000 polygons
4. GPU benchmark
Biggest and badest test of them all.

There are a few other tests, like Per pixel lighting, specular, and normalmap. These effects are on the character from natural bone.
Can your device survive? Only one way to figure out! RUN THE TESTS! Look below for my Nexus 7's score!
My Nexus 7 with the GPU at 750MHz, CPU at 1.7GHz w/ "performance" governor, got a whopping 4,330

Awesome stuff. Now we can see which kernel is faster
Interesting to know what engine is it running on.
Sent from my Nexus 7 using xda app-developers app
Update m just ran mine. M+ kernel a15 1.6ghz on performance governor, 520gpu. High setting, GPU bench.
4068. Rank 16. Screenshot doesn't work... Stupid tapatalk.
All stock, High settings, GPU Bench. Got 3300. It might be time to try some different kernel..
I got 4610 using Trinity Kernel. GPU @ 700mhz and CPU @ 1700mhz. Performance governor.
Rank 16 and 23
I'll upload a picture in a sec
EDIT - I was OCd at 1500. I'll retake at 1700
4800 @ 1700
Will upload after school
I have the highest in the rankings I think

How did you get that high? I used the same kernel, OCed to 1600, and still got only about 3400.

can people who post results tell us what kernel/settings they're using?

CleanROM 2.5 + Trinity Alpha 0
1.7ghz CPU and 750mhz GPU with governor on performance.
On Trinity Kernel Toolbox(buy app, support dev) disable 'Tegra Auto Hotplug' and force the 2nd, 3rd and 4th CPU online. Disable Fsync too.
That is how to get high scores. I got 6700 in Quadrant and 16300 in AnTuTu using those settings.
I would only recommend the setting for benchmarking

How is this even possible?
Has someone used GameCIH to change something?
Completely stock N7 running 4.2 - score 4551.

I only went on GPU benchmark but I should have went on all
same setup but with 750mhz GPU..

Nexus 7 froze at 750mhz. Getting a bit hot. I'll let it cool down

the kernel used has to allow it to be changed(trinity and franco kernels). i use root explorer to change the value in /sys/devices/system/cpu/cpu0/cpufreq/gpu_oc/
Thanks!
Btw, scored 4702 with Trinity. CPU @ 1.7Ghz and GPU @ 700Mhz

test all instead of just the gpu test
I can run the GPU test on 750mhz but I cant test all with it. It freezes and reboots
Hello guys!
I have Xperia arc(LT15i) running modded .587, running on Lupus v10 kernel at 364-1612Mhz, ondemand, sio, with the kernel memory enhancements written on unit.d.(+ disabled cpu rendering and several other unit.d scripts).
Recently i downloaded CSR Racing, just to try it. The problem is that the game is RAM and CPU hungry. The gpu handles smoothly the game, but when the cpu is overloaded, the game continues to run, but the touchscreen is irresponsible for a moment(the problem accures at most of the time, but not always). I tried performance governer with several other schedulers but the difference is bearly visible.
My opinion is that the touchscreen suffers of insufficient priority. Is there any way of having this fixed?

It's not a matter of touchscreen priority, the game takes up a lot of memory so although it runs smoothly, the touch input will lag.

Try with flashing Adreno v.3 drivers - they will make the phone more responsive in every way with nearly to zero UI lagginess!

Thanks for the response! I've flashed them more than 4-5 months ago(instantly when they were out)
EDIT: I want to flash 4.2.2 Jelly Bean. I looked some JB roms and they were told to be very performance friendly... the only thing which prevents me flashing are the JB kernels which are with disabled 720p support.

Better with flashing an custom ICS ROM that you can mod so it act and looks like an JB ROM - it will give you 720p support without any quality drawbacks!

This.
Overclocking -> CPU heats up -> Heat affects nearby parts -> In worse case, your phone parts get damaged (meltdown!)
Don't do it.

Usually i do not play games, and when required for a moment, when running on 1.6Ghz max i have instant response. My phone doesn't get warm, except when charging and playing heavy game or browsing the net via 3G(from which i stay away from)
Thanks for the warning, as i know the silicon melts at more than 130-140C, which i think are hardly possible. Since a long time i've developed for myself a way of holding my phone while having usage with intense processing. Add that i observe my battery and the temperature was never beyond 40-43C while charging and heavy usage.
And thanks a lot for the responses connected with my phone I'll take a note
