SG2 acts erratic when plugged into computer - T-Mobile Samsung Galaxy S II SGH-T989

I've noticed that when I plug my phone into my dell laptop it starts going crazy! The haptic feedback starts buzzing and the keyboard pops up and down...Its like I'm touching it in 10 places every second!
Anybody else experiencing this? I can't even add/remove a widget when plugged into computer, yet when plugged into wall charger, everything is normal
Any ideas on a solution?
*I am using Juggernaut 5.0 and stock charger/data cord. I don't remember if it did this prior to rooting/custom rom but I believe it did.*
Thanks!

It's a grounding issue. Make sure your CPU is plugged into a grounded strip

Try another port?

BeastMod - Can't power phone off when plugged in to charger

Weird. Not sure if it is the rom or what but if I power off the phone, and it shuts down, than plug it into the charger while it is off, the phone powers up. Is this normal?
Also if I power-off from the menu while it is plugged in to the charger it just restarts.
I'm trying to do some tests on charging current draw with the phone powered off vs. powered on but can't because it keeps starting up.
Anyone else notice this or do I need to go back to stock?
I've always had that problem with my rooted HD2's but not the SGS2 with any of the three roms I've tried. My SGS2 when plugged in and shutting down has said from day one "downloading, please wait. Do Not Turn Off" which it never updates.
Sorry, you lost me a little there.
You CAN or CANNOT shut down, plug in the charger and have it STAY OFF?
You can't shutdown. It will just reboot. You have to unplug it first before shutting down. Happened on,my epic. Its fine.

So I can't charge it while it is powered off ? That's strange. Is this because of root or is that how it always works ?
Even if I shut it off first then plug it in it still restarts as soon as it is plugged in.

Doesn't happen on stock ROM+kernel. Happens to me right now with the same config.
Someone correct me if I'm wrong but this DOES happen on the stock kernel when you shut down the phone while its plugged into a USB port..... Solution is pull the battery and reboot and/or don't shutdown the phone when plugged into USB.

This is correct. A lot of people have the same issue including myself.
Ive only had to pull the battery once after a crash. I thought there was an issue with charging and power on but holding the power button down has always turned it on.

franco confirmed that it is not kernel related (cause the kernel isn't loaded in this state)
i also noticed that the battery is getting charged in this "dead battery icon"-state, maybe the phone can be booted after it is fully charged?
It was said before, that this was a problem with CWR (ClockWorkRecovery). IT's being looked at, I believe.

[Q] USB data not working after repair

So, I took a device in for screen repair. Got my phone back, with a magnificent new screen. When I got home, I hooked it up to the computer via USB cable, nothing. No mount USB option in the phone, nothing showing in windows device manager. I try to enable debugging, nothing. I boot into download mode, still nothing. I think maybe I have a bad cable, so I try one, then another, still nothing. Maybe my computer's messed up. I try another, still nothing. The phone charges fine, but will not activate any USB data options, such as tethering, adb, or file transfer. All of these things worked fine before I gave it in for repair.
Does anyone have any advice on what I should do before going back to the store and accuse them of breaking my device?
Try to see if anything shows up on your usb port list in device manager in Windows. Try updating drivers from Windows Update.

Nothing showing in the USB port list, and all 4 computers have all updates. Also just noted that the charge light comes on, and immediately turns off.

Did you try another cable?

Per my opening paragraph, I have tried multiple cables and multiple computers. The same cables work fine on all computers for CDMA Workshop + Droid, and Odin + Samsung Stratosphere (Verizon's Epic 4g).
Yes you did. Sorry. Get a light and magnifying glass and see if something got into your port blocking data connection.

Yep good suggestion. If that isn't the case you should go yell at the Sprint people, they may have messed it up.

Nothing appears out of the ordinary on the contacts. I did use a can of "air" to clean out anything that might not be visible, but also to no avail.
Then they might have loosened it in the repair.

cant power on with charger plugged in

I'm wondering if anyone has experienced this or hard about it happening and can tell me why it's doing it and/or how to fix this issue. basically when my phone is turned off and charging if i try to power it on ill feel a quick vibrate and then instead of turning on it just displays the battery charging icon again. it will do that every time until i physically unplug the charger from the phone and then when i press the power button it starts turning on as it normally should.after that i can either plug the charger back in and let it continue to charge or i can just leave it unplugged. if anyone has any info on this irritating issue it would be a great help . thanks

Are you using a custom rom? I think this was an issue with one of em (freegs3 maybe) and the dev hadn't been able to fix it yet. Its been a bit though so I could be wrong on that one.
If you are on a custom rom, search that thread or ask there as well and youll prob get a quicker/better response.

I've had this happen a few times before. I am running stock rom with trinity kernel. it's pretty weird
sorry I forgot to mention what I was running. this should explain it best.
Sent from my SGH-T999 using xda app-developers app
Yup. FreeGS3. I saw a few people mention this a while back. Dev knows about it and said he will look into it. Haven't seen much about this since but I could have easily overlooked it. Search through that thread for any other info.

Help with not connecting as media device! SGS3

Hi today my phone, and when I plug it into the computer nothing pops up and so it seems as if it doesn't recognize it? It still charges. my device usually says 'connected as media device' in the notifications but now doesn't work. The only change I did was maybe I dropped it? It was like a 3 ft fall on hard carpet I also got a new hyperion battery for it. I would very much like to transfer files and stuff. oh yeah and my sd card might be full if that relates to it.
Thanks!!

just in case this comes in handy for you. I plugged in my phone with usb debugging checked and it wouldn't recognize it as a media device, unchecked, replugged and there it was. Hope that helps
