Special usb cable? - Samsung Epic 4G Touch

I had no issues connecting with adb or mounting the sd card when I had an evo. I have several usb cables I used. Now with my e4gt it seems I can only use the included usb cable to make connections to my computer. Any idea why this would be?

My guess would be that, coincidentally, each and every other USB cable you've tried is damaged in some way.

But they worked fine with my evo...and all broke simultaneously the day I got my e4gt?

USB cable not mounting to iMac

The epic touch came with usb cable, at first I had problems mounting my phone to my iMac... My computer wouldn't pull up my phone.
I switched to HTC cable and my computer is finding my phone and I'm able to move stuff around.
Anyone else with this problem?
Also, I'm about to root... Which cable should I use (htc shows up on iMac or ET4G cable which still don't show), taking precautions to avoid bricking my phone. I read not to use htc cable to root... Confused here...????

I know with the Samsung cable the only way my Mac can see it is if I have USB Debugging on...maybe try that if you don't have it on already.

Really? I don't think I have anymore HTC cables to test it out. Thats the only way I can get my Samsung cable to work. Wish I could help more.

How can I tell if my USB port is busted or my phone is corrupted? Only charges now.

Charging over USB works fine no matter the cable or the connection but it no longer will show up in Windows on any PC as a device. I tried flashing roms, changing cables, and doing the usb fix with Terminal listed in the sticky but it doesnt connect or will it know it's connected to a PC.
Can the port be broken so data no longer works but charging does?

I have tried 3 which is why I wonder if my phone is broken, but it charges fine.
On all PCs the charge light comes on the phone with no problems but with all of them none of them detect a USB device being plugged in.,
Even in recovery if I do a USB-MS mount nothing happens.
Can the usb port break so that it charges with no issue but wont connect to a PC?

I think the solution to your problem can be found in this fix
The USB port on my Evo 4G will charge but won't show up as as a device on my laptop. If I hold the USB cable at an angle, though, it does show up. I think mine is busted, maybe that's the case for yours.

Do you think the cable is busted or the phone? I have tried multiple cables on multiple PCs and nothing happens.
So then it is possible for the phone to be unable to connect but still charge fine?

Have you tried mounting when in Recovery?
It really sounds like your cable is weird. The power lanes are on the edges for USB, meaning that the port on the phone is probably physically fine. The cable, however, is vulnerable to damage on any one of the four wires.
If nothing works, then perhaps something internal is busted. What do you need to transfer from your computer? Perhaps you can do it by connecting to your computer through WiFi for mounting the SD card and adb?
Its your USB port on you phone, theres 2 pins or smoething broken inside your phone thats causing the problem. I had the same problem on my Evo were it wouldnt connect as a storage device and would go into car dock mode. I took it to sprint and showed them the problem and they replaced my phone. As long as you dont have any physical damage such as the screen being cracked you should be fine and they should replace it free of cost.
Make sure that your cable is not one of those charge only, car charger type cables. Typical car charging cables don't transfer data.

Yeah, that's pretty much it. If I wiggle it just the right way the computer will see something but it will go away as fast as it shows up. Doubt Sprint will do anything as the phone is a few years old, I dropped the protection plan, and it's rooted to heck.
I'll just keep it running until this fall and upgrade when the new Nexus line comes out.
Hopefully.

Micro usb will charge but doesn't recognize that it is plugged into a computer

The phone charges fine but when connected to a computer it doesn't recognize that it is. It isn't rooted or anything it isn't running a custom rom. has anyone had this issue? has my micro usb port simply worn out?
I had a Nexus 4 that exhibited the same problem. I believe the micro usb simply can not endure the repetitive insertion and exertion of the usb cable. The mini usb standard was much more robust, at least physically.
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using xda premium
look in the charging port to see if there is any gunk in there. clean it out if there is

I have the same problem.
I have tried a different port and computer as well.
I used the same cord for the wall charger and connecting to the PC.
When I connect it to the wall charger, it works fine.
However, when I connect it to the PC, nothing happens.
The phone won't even recognize that it's being charged.
It won't even show a message...
Anyone have a solution or know why?

USB 3.0 not recognized

I have a Verizon LG G3 VS985. I just got it today, whipped the ioroot on there, etc.
So now that Google has decided they hate SD cards I've been having a ***** of a time getting backups going from my SGS3 to the new phone. I finally made a local backup, and then using a PC copied all the local backups to SD. I tried to do it to the LG G3, but when I plug it in to my PC after installing the verizon drivers, it says it will perform better plugging it into a Superspeed USB 3.0 port... and the copy would take 6 hours instead of 3 minutes. The port it is plugged into is one. It works with 2 USB 3.0 drives and my SGS3 as one... why does the G3 not recognize that?
The phone is not actually USB 3.0. The cable might be, but Android phones are known to have issues with USB 3.0 ports.
LG G3's are not USB 3 able because USB 3 cables are designed differently (well, use a different connector) then USB 2.0 spec cables.
You can tell the difference because the USB 3 cables will look more like a cable that plugs into the Note 3, it has an "extra" nub on the connector. It would be impossible to plug a USB 3 connector into a G3 unless in the last two days they have created a new USB 3 cable that only requires a USB MICRO B 2 connector. If they did, please link me because Ive been looking everywhere =)

So how come my galaxy S3 doesn't whine about connecting it to a USB 3 port and I get massively better speed than with the G3?

It should still ready fine, however, it will only read/write files at the USB 2.0 speed. There should no be any issues, I would try another micro usb cable, and or USB port. Or you could just use a micro sd card and pop all of the files on there from your PC which will probably be faster.

Because your G3 requires a higher amperage for full charge speed then your gs3.

I've tried 2 other cables now, and both USB 3.0 ports on this laptop. I'll have to try at work and see if I have USB 3.0 ports there. It's just weird, the same port and cable have no warning with other phones (my rezound and gs3 both didn't whine) or with usb 3.0 flash drives. Just this phone.

I'm not sure how that would affect data transfer speed... Charge speed, sure. Data transfer speed though...
I ended up just popping the files on the internal of the gs3 and copying them to the computer, then to the sd card while in the gs3. Then just put the sd card into the g3, where it read fine.

I just tested mine with a USB 3.0 port on my PC without any issues. I also tried a USB 2.0, and again no issues. I don't have an answer, it could be your phone, or a setting on it. What mode are you using to transfer files PTP,MTP or the LG PC Suite?

MTP. But since it's verizon it has a weird default of "connected as installer" which isn't even in the options, then I have to choose MTP.

Because your phone is not usb 3 and requires a 1 amp charger for faster charging speeds. USB 3 VERY RARELY has 1A ports, they are usually between 500-700mA which means when you plug your phone into the computer you aren't getting the full amperage needed to fully charge speed at capacity. Combine those two issues and you get the error you get about plugging the phone into a higher speed port. If you are having problems with transfer speeds being that slow, either your phone, cable or port are borked. Try reinstalling/updating your USB drivers, try new cable or check a different phone with the same USB power requirements if you want to test where the problem is but you will NEVER get USB 3 speeds because you do not have a USB 3 port on your phone, you have USB 2.0 HS

it is. I agree 100%.
This may sound strange, but if you look at the USB port inside the G3 you can see that it has additional connectors in it, recessed deeper in the socket, either side and on the end of a small plastic tab that goes from top to bottom in a square shape (about 2mm in size). Perhaps these are causing PCs to incorrectly detect a USB3 capable device?
USB 3.0 on LG-G3
I am running CM13 nightly 031316 on an LGG3 D-851. I have a dual ended USB 3.0 thumb drive It has a USB 3.0 standard connection on one end and a micro USB connection on the other end. Reading these posts am I understanding that the LGG3 will not recognize the thumb drive? Or will it not recognize just being connected to a USB port on a PC?
Thanks

USB 3.1 Type C Cable Adapter (from micro USB)

Just ordered two of those adapters. They convert Micro USB 2.0 to USB 3.1.
Best price is 1.28!
http://www.aliexpress.com/item/USB-...-0-5-Pin-Female-Data-Adapter/32431393932.html
Let me know if it works for you. I ordered http://aliexpress.com/item/2015-New...onverter-Adapter-For-Macbook/32390876259.html some time ago and the connector won't even fit into my OP2..
weird.. They look the same to me. I will definitely give a feedback!
I ordered this one...
http://www.aliexpress.com/snapshot/6845583073.html
Still not received atm.
EDIT : fits perfectly, work with charger but not with OTG cable...
i have ordered a few off ebay. hopefully they will arrive in the morning. its good that they do these things as i have heard some people saying the cable that comes with the 1+2 wont connect to some laptops. for myself i have not had that issue but i want some backups for safe keeping.
I bought 5 from eBay for $2 ea. They work fine and I have tried them on a lot of different cables and charges both cheap and quality ones.
Good to know that most of them do work. I noticed that the OPT cable is slightly wider than some usb slots. That might be the reason why is not fitting into some laptops.
Find the UK equivalent here, http://m.ebay.co.uk/itm/301706225746
ordered 2 will see how these perform and give feedback.
I have 3 of these. They work fine for charging. But NOT with my SanDisk 64GB OTG Flash Drive With micro USB connector.
Tomorrow I will get this: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B010HWCFDA?psc=1&redirect=true&ref_=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s00
Hope it works with my OP2

Maybe your flash drive draws too much power from the phone? I assume this product was meant to be used with a Macbook Air rather than a phone with USB Type C, but I could be wrong.

They work alright with data transfer connected to a PC. I will buy a USB 3.1 Type C OTG Cable proper and see how it goes.
It does work just fine with my imac, under OSx and Windows.. But not with my OP2...
OTG does work fine for a friend of mine with a similar Sandisk flash drive and adapter. Pic included.
