3-way calling problem. - Samsung Galaxy Nexus

I'm having a problem with 3-way calling which renders it virtually useless. When you are on a call and then add a third party to the call it is very difficult for the original two callers to hear the third. Unless the third party speaks very loudly their voice will be "squelched" out. In other words it completely cuts out until they raise their voice and keep it at a high level through out the entire call. Its like the phone considers the voice to be background noise and silences it completely.
Anyone else experiencing this?

Stock, unrooted 4.0.2 gsm

Guess we're screwed. Nobody else seems to be reporting it or even care. I'm really amazed that it isn't a bigger issue. It certainly a big issue to me.

I rolled back to Stock and same issue. I'm going to file a bug report.

Great. I would greatly appreciate hearing about any progress if you don't mind.

Is anyone having problem with the phone's microphone?

I talk into the microphone normal, but I've had reports by people that during a phone call they can't hear me unless I scream.
The exact same thing happens when I use the Google voice-to-text thing on MSGs. I literally have to scream for it to pick up my voice.
I'm on Sprint, and I doubt it's a carrier problem because my iPhone never did this. Any ideas?
Hello? Does anyone have any suggestions?

caller can't hear me sometime, about 40% of the time not works.

Callers can't hear me when they're calling me.
I have test my S4 with my wife's phone, there's no sound comes out from her phone when she calls me sometime, but i can hear her voice, then i connect a headphone to the S4, which still no sound from her phone. Also tried to deactivate the noise cancelling and set to other sound type. This happens in both WIFI and regular call. But it does work 100% of the time if i make the call.
This is a clean factory S4 with newest firmware installed , never rooted or flashed.
Any one has the same problem?
thank you.
"there's no sound comes out from her phone when she calls me sometime, but i can hear her voice"
The above part confuses me.
But from what I understand, when your wife tries to call you, sometimes you hear her voice and sometimes you don't.
But when you make a phone call to your wife, you can Always hear her fine.
If the above is correct, does the problem happen when only you're wife calls you, or also when other people call you?
If the above doesn't not fix your issues, the answer may be:
- the mic on your wife's phone
You can have your wife call you from her speakerphone multiple times to see if the issue happens.
If the issue does not repeat, the problem is probably an issue with the mic on her phone.
If the issue does repeat, the mic is ok.
But let me know if the problem is only between your 2 phones and/or when calls are made to and received from other phones also.
If the hardware on your devices are fine by testing with trial and error, a Factory Reset may be an option.
Also, if you have insurance or just purchased the devices, maybe an exchange or trouble shoot with tech, etc.
But first you need to isolate the issue as per my comments above.
Trouble shooting may be tedious, but it will narrow down the possibilities of what the cause may be.
Which device
Hardware
Network, etc.
this happens to me too on wicked rom but i haven't noticed any patterns to cause it. which rom are you on?

I just noticed that you said you're on a stock rom. I think I may know the culprit. There is some user app that is interfering with the microphone due to bad programming. For example I believe in my case it is a live wallpaper that I use which is sensitive to sound. So it uses the mic. Sometimes when I try to use Google Voice typing or voice search I get an error message that says it could not open the mic. I also have instances where people cannot hear me on a phone call. I believe these are all related due to a bad behavior of an app using the mic. Try to figure out which app is using the mic and let us know

I am on the original rom from Tmobile, it seems only happen when someone calls me with AT&T. My problem is when someone calls me, i can't hear them, but they do hear from me, so i don't think the problem is related to my mic.

Notification sound "fading in" effect

Hello xda,
Any time I receive a text or mail the notification sound starts low but quickly ramps up in volume. Is anyone experiencing this as well? Is there a way to set this so it's loud from the start? Hope that makes sense.
I appreciate your help and time
I noticed when the phone rings sounds only by the lower speaker, and sound very low and muffled.

Turning off "Pocket Mode" did make a "slight" improvement, but not much. Thanks for the tip though. :good:

Many others (including myself) have noticed and posted about this issue here (though not enough in my opinion). It's not restricted to notifications and ringtones either, it happens with *all* sounds on the phone.
Unfortunately, there is no way to fix it. Different sound drivers, updated firmware, build.prop settings... Nothing seems to get rid of this "speaker protection" crap. I am still hopeful to someday see a mod or firmware update that addresses it though, because after trying all those different things, I've run out of ideas.
Sent from my HTC 10 using XDA-Developers mobile app
I've also noticed that, it sounds fine when I preview notifications and ringtones, but when the phone actually rings it is a lot more quiet and muted. It does appear that the top speaker is not being used for ringtones. I'll try to call htc, let's see what they say.
Called HTC, spoke with a girl who sounded like she was following some sort of flowchart. Needless to say she couldn't help and concluded that it was a defective hardware. I tried to explain that others are having the same issue and it appears to be a bug, but I don't think she understood. They are sending me a new phone. I'm sure the new phone will have the same issue. Maybe if more people call HTC with this issue, they will figure it out.

Hi there
the same problem here, without any mod, crack o root solution. But the difference were the answer from HTC technical support: " this is a technical and engineering design, it´s not a bug", this mean: " f**** you costumer, and again, a new dissapoint from HTC. I has tried in several forums, here in XDA and another ones: nothing for to do, i loose my faith in the HTC 10. It´s very frustating because a little detail ( the ringtone volume and quality) destroy a overall experience

OH, so they know about it? This is a technical and engineering design fu**-up. My notifications are half the volume of the M8. If that is their answer, then I will probably return my phone.
Any solutions yet?
On mine it rings from the bottom speaker for about 3 rings, quiet, then ramps up and uses the top speaker too. With V4a on now once the top speaker kicks in it's very loud. It gives me a chance to answer it before it blasts me out.
I just bought a new htc 10 and quickly noticed this annoying sound fading in issue, searched online and this seems to be the only place talked about it with no solution, does everybody else really okay with this??
I guess at least it sounded fine when using headphone, but with this speaker fading crap everything sound like its echoing right now. This NEEDS to get solved.
Any solution ?
I came here to search for any ways to turn this "feature" off (and that's what it is, despite how nobody asked for it or wanted it). Looks like nobody has found any solutions. But here's my theory anyway:
The "fading in" volume effect must be a function of the Boom Sound software. It's a noise gate. And it sucks. For instance, try listening to any music that has any hard hits around any silence (a good example is "Brain Stew" by Green Day). It's really annoying.
I wish somebody could figure out how to disable the Boom Sound software altogether.
According to Google, https://www.google.com/search?newwi...0i22i30k1j33i22i29i30k1j33i21k1.0.leWX0kmgR6I it's a known Feature of Android 5, and many people complain about it, but there is no way to disable it.
Some people can workaround the issue, on some rom, with some apps or players; there is no universal solution.
In the best case, some chat app will not bell if they are already full screen; and this is an issue for me because if I have my phone plugged, and display timeout is 1h, then, it won't bell for incoming messages, and if I am >1m from it, I won't know people are talking to me. That's why I try to always make all apps always bell. But, if I am listening to music, the permanent bell that comes with intense chat may turn the music off all the time.
I not sure if I shall downgrade my phone to Android 4, 2.2, or 1.8 ...
.. arg, I am stupid, those versions have never been ported for my most recent phone.

Delay in Speakerphone Availability

Is anyone else experiencing a delay when both placing calls, but even more noticeably, and more annoyingly, when answering calls, in speakerphone availability? What I mean is a call will come in, I will answer it, but the speakerphone button will remain grayed out for a few seconds, so I can not activate the speakerphone to say "hello." If my intention is to take the call on speakerphone, I must either say "hello" before I can activate the speakerphone, and risk the other person beginning to speak before I will be able to hear them if I have not put the phone to my ear, or I must delay saying "hello", which causes the person calling to hear the line open up, but wonder why I am not speaking.
I really can't imagine that I am the only one experiencing this and finding it incredibly annoying.
I actually contacted HTC, but have not heard anything back.
Can anyone else confirm this behavior?
I am using an unrooted Verizon HTC 10, but I doubt the carrier matters.
Thanks.
I see this thread had had, as of the time I'm posting this follow-up, 64 views, but not a single response.
If no one else is experiencing this, could some of you at least post to say that? If you can answer an incoming call, and instantly press the speakerphone button and say "hello" on speakerphone, with no delay, then I'd be interested in hearing that, particularly if you are using a stock Verizon HTC 10. Because that would seem to indicate there is an issue with my phone, or the software on my phone, since I can't do that.
I'm still operating under the theory, though, that the issue lies with the software, and that I am not alone.
Thanks.
Did I omit the secret handshake or something?
Seriously...is there a reason no one is responding, one way or the other?

Nexus 5X Microphone

So here is the problem. I have tried talking to Google Support and also LG Support. Not under warranty anymore. I have heard several different people mention problems with their mics in calls, be it incoming or outgoing. I have done several things to try to fix this problem; flashing stock firmware and upgrading thru OTA's, clearing cache, rebooting every day, flashing custom roms, modifying the build.prop, opening the device and checking for physical damage. To my knowledge this phone has 3 microphones that are used for actual speaking and background noise reduction. When I opened the device everything looked ok on what I assumed were the mics (the tiny square bits soldered to the logic board at the top and the bottom). I assume these were just going bad and finally gave out on me. Has anyone had any experience getting these fixed or repaired? Is there any software based approach I can look into? I am really tired of using my speakerphone in every call. I assume I am not the only person with this problem.
If anyone can shed some light on this or help in anyway I would appreciate it
Thanks!
I would start by describing the mic issue you are experiencing during voice calls.
Haven't had any myself.
No one can hear me using the microphone, as soon as I switch to speakerphone the other party is able to hear me.
I've read mics can stop functioning if you try and clean the phone with compressed air. As far as fixing or replacing a mic I am unable to provide assistance.
Well rats. Hopefully someone can shed some light on getting this fixed. I do have some soldering experience but I don't even know how this translates via the logic board. Anyone that has more information the help would be awesome. Thank you for your time though previous posters.

I have this problem as well, but also all media volume can't be heard through the speakers. I've personally cleaned and replaced the unit and nothing works, I just have to choose speaker and start talking, else use a headset or a bluetooth mic
Same problem, no solution yet.
Think that is a software/driver/app combination bug.
When Iam in call hardly can anyone hear me, if I cover top mic - then im heard again (proof that bottom mic is working).
Top mic is used to cancel background noise, phone interpret your voice as background noise and volume it down. That way nobody can hear you.
When I cover top mic - no background noise detected and my voice is heard again.
Question is why top mic detect legit voice as background noise?
Same problem here. Can't use microphone normally on any sort of voice call. I have to change to speaker for people to be able to hear me. I'm not sure if I still have warranty so if it's a software problem I might be able to fix it by myself.
