Just Rooted with FB17 w/Stock ICS no TW - Samsung Epic 4G Touch

So Ive had my phone since launch and just decided to root it since ICS FB17 was leaked. I got the Rom flashed, Cleared the touch Wiz Launcher and it showed me how to use the vanilla ICS not from tw but from the vanilla ICS. stock ICS home screen and App Draw. This is just to good to be true. everything is better and None Touch Wiz.

Did you use the tar file? I read it doesn't include a modem. Did you have to flash a modem too? any LOS?
Thanks

Is the status bar still touchwiz?
Sent from my SPH-D710 using XDA App

Status bar is ics. Its different from 2.3.

Writing this from Calks FB17 tar
Its all TW themed but works perfectly I flashed the FB15 modem in recovery before using Odin

I just flash the regular Tar. I can use 3g and make phone calls and use the internet

I believe this ics rom was retweaked from the first release i think because he said everything worked. Well the gps would not lock on.

I placed the modem in ext sd, booted into cwm and flashed. Does this normally take longer than flashing a rom? CWM seems stuck on "flashing modem." How long did it take for you and what rom were you on?

Modems do take a little while to flash in recovery. If it takes longer than 5 mins than I would say it won't flash but give it time.

I saw QBKing77's video on this and he said the signal bars dont work.
Does anyone else have this problem too?
Sent from my SPH-D710 using XDA App

My signal bars work but not gps. There is a lot going on with multiple roms so it is getting a bit confusing.

although you can enable the stock launcher (we have this option in GB too, btw), it's not really stock. Dialer, Contacts, gallery, menus etc.etc. all look TWish. No option for widget resize either...

GPS fix on ICS roms.

I've been reading how some people have GPS on fb17 and some don't. I haven't tested this yet so if someone does please let me know. I remember on the original epic on the dk28 Froyo leak in order for GPS to work you had to get a GPS lock first and then Odin to the leak. (For those original epic users u might remember this) im wondering if this is true for this leak. I haven't tested this out but I will later today. So for those that can't get a GPS lock Odin back to EL29 and get a good GPS lock. Go back into download mode and odin FB17. hopefully GPS will now work.

I remember this dirty little fix from the OG Epic. It actually did work on that phone. I have actually gotten this idea and tired this 2 days ago and it didn't work. This was with the tar stock odex version. even trying different modems.
It wasn't until I flashed Caulks rooted, deodex version that GPS instantly worked. So I know, that works better for me at least.

UnOfficial ICS rom v.1
base: unNamed rom gingerbread
Basically all the good stuff from all the devs. Thanks to overstew...kingofthajungle...rujelus22...12many...and anyone else I forgot
ICS transitions/no crt animation (add on...originally done by playya)
Full ICS themed...most images from overstew
Calkulins latest battery saver script minus the undervolt.
Various png tweaks by me
Rogue EL29 stock kernel
Volume key music skip mod
Extended toggles
5x5 app drawer and 5 dock icons
4g hotspot mod
Highly De-bloated
No Kies so if you go into settings/wireless and select kies it will force close (no one uses it)
SD card speed tweaks
Cache/Dalvik optimized
Fast...good battery life...everything works
Thanks goes to playya...without him I couldn't of done this
Update: (4/16) added themed stock browser, changed mms icon to blue, added task manager widget, updated dolphin browser, changed up transitions for default (still has a ICS feel to it...its my hybrid version) , changed calendar widget, new boot animation, themed samsung keyboard, roboto and Sony sketch font, added back in automatic zip align at boot, and maybe more that i forgot. If coming prior to this update just wipe cache/dalvik...otherwise full wipe is required...enjoy!

UnOfficial ICS v1.0:

He could start with FE07 leak. It's ICS with TW and its pretty stable compared to some of the earlier leaks. It's an easy flash, too, thanks to sfhub's odin. You can find it in this thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1642564
That is a hard question to answer as everyone has a favorite for different reasons. They are all pretty stable. Calkulins E4GT 2 is one of the more stock looking with a few battery saving tweaks. Blend ICS "Goodness" has really nice themed ics look and has very similar tweaks. AOKP Roms are fairly stable abd have built in ROM Control which is very nice. I'm using HyDrA tablet hybrid ROM and its stable, but because of the dpi settings the market sees the phone as a tablet and you have to change your dpi to download regular apps from the market.

There are a number of really amazing ICS ROMs, Anakonda, Venum Ice, Nocturnal Venum, actually anything from Teams Nocturnal and Venum, also anything from Calkulin, agat63 has some really sweet, clean work as well and you can never go wrong with sfhub's one-clicks.
Another vote for fe07 leak then if your friend likes it send them here to figure it out on their own.
FE07 will be your best option for a beginner. Don't go to AOSP until source kernels are released. FE07 will be the most stable. CM9 is very stable too though.
Wow you guys are really far ahead. All we got is skyrocket ports and the tmo ics leak that just dropped lol. Kudos gents.

The reason for this is because of the kernel for ICS not being released from Samsung/Sprint yet. It's pretty simple to do all the regular CWM functionality on an ICS based ROM though - Use Odin (or highly recommended: Mobile Odin from the play store, which doesn't require a PC) and put the el26 CWM kernel on your phone (it's found many places, like the AOKP OP for example). It wont boot up with this kernel so just boot into recovery and from there you can backup, flash themes, wipe things, and then to get back to your ROM simply flash an AOSP tweaked kernel - also readily available (in AOKP OP again).
Certainly a few more steps than we were used to on GB Roms but it's totally worth it to me. ICS is a massively better experience for me so the few hoops to jump through are worth it. When that source kernel hits (any day now) it will be the land of milk and honey.

Ok, so i went all the the way back to stock, EK02, let OTA take me back to EL29, Autoroot-ed to EL29 + CWM, did SF's oc to FF11 no data, confiremed the camera worked, no fc's, then replaced /system/app with the camera.apk that was in the post. No sounds. I didn't mess with the camera.odex file a all..
Sorry i couldn't replicated a fc..
Thanks man

If you didn't solve it yet, get the stock camera apk (the one that doesnt force close), get on root browser or something. Go to system>media>audio>ui delete CameraShutter.ogg CameraFocus.ogg and VideoRecord.ogg
I think those are the file names, if not, they're similar. Your stock camera will be silent.
