Bought HTC Desire Hd but cannot download any app. My phone was sold for the arabic market and it does not support android market. I am in the UK and would like to be able to download apps. Is there a way I could reset my phone inorder to install Android Market?
It is so frustrated not being able to download any apps till I have Android Market installed on the phone. Please can anyone help?

Have a look in the development forum, your going to need to downgrade and get it rooted you would then probably be best served installing a custom ROM, although you could always install an RUU and take it to a stock UK ROM. Have a look at the Advanced Ace Hack Kit, which will do all the heavy lifting for you.

Confused about Rooting/Romming

Guys,
I've had almost every HTC since the early days of the original XDA, I then migrated to a Blackberry Storm2 for a short while but now back in the HTC camp and the proud owner of a Desire.
I am with Vodafone and have many apps installed ('Stocks' and 'Footprints' for instance!) that I simply don't want, other than that I am fairly happy with the 1.9 rom that is standard from the provider.
I would love the 2.2 Rom but understand that when Google finally deploy it to our Vodafone Desires, we'll still be stuck with standard apps that I don't want installed and cannot uninstall.
What is the best option for me to get the baseline 2.2 OS and the ability to uninstall ANY app that I don't want? Please suggest a specific rom if appropriate, or is it possible for me to just 'root' a standard rom giving me the ability to uninstall apps?

for u to have a 2.2 rom u will have to root ur device
for me this is the best guide
http://theunlockr.com/2010/06/07/how-to-root-the-htc-desire/
and remember rooting voids warranty and its at ur own risk and back up ur device i use backup pro
or u can use smsbackup and restore and call history backup
contacts are already sync with google so just sign into google to get contacts back

Disable Sense Android 2.2

Hello.
Is there anyone who has tried to disable HTC sense on a Desire with the new update? Can it be done?
I use Android 2.2 on my HD2 via the new Darkstone ROM and much is different. The lock-up bar has two sides, one to unlock the phone and the other to shut of sound. The app menu has scrolling like a waterfall etc.
Much of these functions I now want on the Desire.
Please help!
You can't disable Sense in ROM, but you can flash many other 2.2 ROMs that doesent have sense!
Closest you can get to "disabling" Sense is to root your phone and deleting a few apps from /system/app. You can also install a different homescreen/launcher and lock screen.
Can I still root the phone with the new 2.2 update? I thought that wouldn't work now that the update had a new loader.
What apps can I install to mimic "vanilla" 2.2?
Thanks for all the help.

If you installed OTA, no you cannot root and thus cannot install custom ROMs.

You don't need to "mimic" vanilla 2.2 - just install one of the AOSP ROMs and you will have vanilla 2.2!

Dave
My Desire also got FroYo yesterday and i wanted to disable Sense even before that. I dont know anything about Rooting of the new bootloader (mine is 0.92.0001) but luckily my brother rooted his phone some weeks ago and installed a custom ROM(more vanilla android like).
He then sent my several stockapps directly from his /system/app folder, like stock android-keyboard (LatinImeGoogle.apk) and email-client (EmailGoogle.apk). I also tried installing the launcher and installing works, but the phone button will say "missing app" or sth. Phone.apk or Contacts.apk unfortunetly dont install, you probably need root for that.
the keyboard and email are those apps that i use most, so for my part with those installed i can wait some weeks to get root again to install a custom ROM

Rooting Samsung SCH-W999

Hello! I have serious problem rooting Samsung W999. This is a kind of special device with dual screen, dual sim (and the rest such as CPU ram are the same as Galaxy S II) running 2.3.6. There is not much information for it.
I tried with Superoneclick 2.3.3 it failed, I also tried some others such as unlockroot, kingroot, gingerbreak etc. but non of them is working.
I wanted to try odin to flash the kernel but since there is no ROM avaliable online and I'm in the UK (The only way to fix it is in China, as it's only avaliable for China Telecom), I can't do anything if I bricked it.
Is there any better method for it? Thanks!!
I'm missing the Google Mobile Service, as google shop is not avaliable in China. That's the most annoying thing now. Although I can install the service framework and play shop, since they are not system app I can not download.
I need to put the apk into system/app
Is it possible to flash the files via odin? As the recovery mode is blocked.
Now the ROM has been updated to fc16. Maybe I will try to use recovery, but can't find which cmwrecovery is suitable for W999......

i dont know on all versions of android, mine is android 2.3.5 ginger bread, kernel version 2.6.38.6-perf.
with kingo, you have to be patient, even if it says not recognized, just wait a little bit longer. it worked for me, and i was finally able to move some apps to my sd card to save memory.
