Figured I'd start a general discussion thread about the petition to Acer and also about raising the bounty to interest more devs.
We can discuss these things in here rather than polluting other threads
Will be donating what I can the beginning of Feb.

willing to donate as well
Awesome! Thanks guys!
I don't expect we'll get thousands but anything will help. If we can even raise enough for one device to get it to a dev, that would be awesome!
On another note, we seem to be doing well with the petition so far! Tell your friends, share on Facebook, make sure you "like" it which makes it go viral in other people's feeds etc!
I signed the petition already, but I don't know how much a dev can do to specifically unlocking a bootloader. I understand the bootloader is encrypted, which means that unless we have they key we won't be able to boot our own custom roms flashed through recovery. Although I have been following on my Droid3 forums about how devs have created some workaround solutions for using the stock bootloader and somehow getting around it, although I believe it is more complicated than that. The user Hashcode knows a lot about that sort of stuff on the motorola droid platforms. I'm not sure how much he can help but it might be a good starting point?

I gotta get in front of a real computer so I can donate a few bucks.
Can somebody reach out to Hashcode, he might be willing to help out.

Done! PM'd him.
Ok guys, Samsung is not updating our phone to ICS. We hate this choice, but we can't help it.
Everyone is waiting for arco68 and the ICS porting, that is gonna be awesome but isn't here yet.
All I see around here is whining and questions, but no one lifts a finger to push this community: no one cares to see how to port mods, themes, and all kind of things that make Android interesting: if I wanted a closed source phone I'd have bought an iPhone and let it be as it came out of the box.
So PLEASE guys: the next time you come here to beg on the "cm9 build thread", instead look on XDA, read guides, try something, DO SOMETHING. If you don't know how to, ASK! If you don't manage, post here, we'll see what we can do to help.
There is no need to be a developer or know about code: you'll find tons of step-by-step guides all over XDA that will teach you.
We can't keep always asking. It's time to ACT!

You do your part, you make videos, post guides, find apps, provide screenshots... It's the part of the community that just asks when cm9 is gonna be out that I'm referring to in my post
Just to add to...I wonder what happened to the Moderator for this thread section as it seems that all postings on Q n A etc is all over the place n re-created over n over but has been answered before...

Guys....
I think there is just over-enthusiasm and some impatience.....
perhaps, as a 58 yr-old enthusiast, I have done whatever I could in the way of advice and some experience in IT and Telco...
but young people, which I wish I was, don't have the patience which comes with age
I really have not seen anyone here really getting obnoxious, [well..maybe 1 person].....
so ppl should not take offence for little reason.....
Take a break, come back refreshed.....
ppl here only wish Devs the best, and hope they can solve outstanding issues....I genuinely feel this to be true

@IP I totally support the devs, and I'm one of those calm about waiting for releases.
What I was trying to say is that everyone should try to contribute actively instead of just waiting for the others to do the work

Exactly what I say my friend!!!
Each of us helps in whichever way they can......
some younger ppl are a little impatient....
which is a sign of youth
but, really...
truely, this is a very well-behaved forum!!!
I mean, Sammy drops us all in the shyte....
volunteer devs come to our rescue......
and ppl complain about the voluntary guys.....
instead if reading up and learning stuff which might be helpful.

Just One Suggestion
I have asked before for a Q & A Section, but if this is not possible perhaps add to this section any links for the topics noted in your fist post as searching xda vast resources is not easy for me and maybe also for others.
Hi all, I never write on this forum, i just read and waiting for news from our community, and i totally agree with fender90, we all need to do something for this Wonder(ful) smartphone!
Probably all of us are waiting for ics/cm9 and i think this is why only few people are trying to do something for us on gingerbread.
In my case i'd like to do something like a kernel with bln for example, but first of all for now i only rooted my phone and i'm afraid of briking my only phone trying to do other mods...Also, i dunno how to begin to do something else like develop a new kernel or improve the features of our w, like the devs on this forum are doing...So i'd really like to see more activity for this phone, and i'd really like to have a part on that, but i dunno how, and first to mod my phone i need to be sure on how i can test my possible mods without damages...

Unfortunately there is no "safe" way to mod, there is always some little bit of risk. But little mods can't hard brick your phone!
What arco68 is doing is the hard work that can brick your phone. He knows what he's doing.
Little mods to the framework or somthing like that will (in the worst case) soft brick your phone, that can be solved in 10 minutes by reflashing a ROM or restoring a Nandroid backup.
About how, check this out: that was the thing I was trying to do before kinda giving up because I don't see an active community that is actually trying to do something: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1169443
fender....thanx for that!!!!
I would say that an active participating community will take some time to evolve!!
This forum is very young yet, and I am not sure it will ever become as big and active as those for more popular devices.
however, I also think that you should continue to do stuff, like you have linked, it will also encourage others with similar skills to contribute, and others to learn and become skilled....
keep up the good work!!

It will be a matter of time for all of us to join the dev..

I know there is always a little risk, however i'm new in android, so i need to read more and learn how to save and restore my data before to mod my phone...then i'd like to know the basics to develop and then i can try do something, but there are a lot of information in the forum so it's difficult for a newbie to understand where to begin, what are the easy mods can be done...when i have times to search surely i'll do it, but til then we need all the man like u that wanna improve this phone...cause, ics or not, this is a great smartphone!
PS. thanks for all u are doing for us fender! Pls don't stop

So there is a group or team that develops the rom(aokp, cm10), and when they put new builds out individuals pick then up and do the writing necessary to run a partocular device?
Sent from my One V using xda app-developers app
there's no "groups or teams" we BUILD CM10\AOKP\PA all from source i work on Base rom's which is CM9\CM10\AOSP when the CM* rom's get stable enough i pass them to maxwen and he finishes them off, which gives me free time to de-stress and spend time with girlfriend and work on other projects.
for CDMA JMZtaylor builds the Base rom's which are CM9\CM10
we work together......seeing threads like this drives me up the wall

Dude,
XDA is NOT a support site of any kind.
It is a forum for developers, yes it has grown massivley over the years, but in general most folks on here are at least kinda techie, geeky, or both. There are also many users who just want to download cool stuff. There is nothing wrong with that but devs get annoyed when "users" don't want to take the time to learn forum rules, read, or do a bit of research.
Every dev on here is a volunteer, they do what they do because they enjoy it, and like being involved in a community of like minded folk who know the devices we spend our cold hard cash on are usually capable of much more than manufacturers like to release. Yes, there are "teams" large and small but they do not get paid for this, work under deadlines, or are expected to provide any support.
I don't mean to sound too cold, but with a little reading and research you could have found out all you needed to know about the CM team, AOKP, etc AND read in Lior's dev thread that his build is UNOFFICIAL meaning not an officially supported device by the actual aokp team. Even if it were an officially supported device that would not mean timetables, support, or warranty. Seriously, do a little research.
And understand, when you joined in August what number were you? Did you watch the "you are a noob" video, I made my son watch that when he joined. There are LOTS of new people here who demand, are rude etc. I am not saying that you are necasarily one of them, but when each device can count the number of devs on two hands or less, compared to the number of registered XDA users and you can see how a dev like Lior could get upset at your lack of wanting to read.
In the future, until you have contributed to this forum please refrain from even using sarcasm with a respected dev. Read, learn, and I hope you enjoy XDA, but remeber it is a developer forum, not a noob support site.
Regards.
Edit: ahhhh, just realized I kept typing Lior, and not Lloir, my apologies Dude.

I would love it if every rom posting would go back to the format of what is working and not...it is hard to keep flashing roms just to see what is working or not...plus I'm sure I'm wearing out my phone flashing 5 roms in a day just to find out they all have the same flaws or not or even if it was fixed..ie does video calling work, or hml, or any other feature that this phone can normally do...remember when devs use to have 2 lists in the op and pictures so you could window shop for your rom and not have to spend the time downloading, wiping and flashing just to restore your nandroid because you don't like the look or the fact some things don't work...it would really help and it only takes a couple of minutes.....thank all of you for your time and development of this device...

Although I agree, your going tone other get zero response or (and more probable) catch flack about being demanding.
While typically, the android community development is free, everyone has became accustomed to the idea that eta's, change logs, working/not working lists are simply below them. Perhaps in their eyes it is. What I would like to remind everyone is this...time isn't limitless, and can be very valuable to some. If you don't like the community feedback (ie. Asking for these lists; small stuff) than maybe you should just (loosely) develop and/or cook ROMs for your own personal use. Xda is a community... A community built on knowledge, user base, and the good ol' boy system.
Just remember what we are here for. We all own a T989 and want to make our devices outlast even the newer models.

You're assuming that people will read and thus not need to ask. As someone who spent over a year developing for the vibrant I couldn't even count the times that I either directed someone's questions to the op that contained the answer or just ignored the questions all together. Now as just an onlooker who casually flashes I read the op and if I don't see the answer I want I watch the thread and let others ask/answer or do my own research like checking out gerrit or just move on and find something else.
When I was building ROMs I would spend hours at the computer and by the time I got around to posting my work I may have forgotten one or two things so change logs were usually only partial.
Getting the latest software on your phone while free does take a little effort on the part of the user.

Well the reason this is happening is because 4.2 just came out. People are curious to know what works and what doesn't. Devs haven't had enough time to check all of the glitches and bugs. Devs also rely on us for fixing bugs because they don't always have the time to do it.
As per the same questions being asked over and over, people simply don't know what the search button does.
And yeah

Wow! Someone just makes a basic request and gives thanks to developers, and suddenly everyone is all over him and getting all defensive about developers feelings or something. How did it turn into this??
I kind of agreed with the request as far as how nice it might be to know pros and cons of each rom without reading through pages and pages of useless posts in the dev threads to find out each detail. It seems to me that most developers appreciate it when more people are using their rom (and obviously people appreciate the rom they're using) sooo...it might help people to understand what they're flashing and they might be more likely to flash a rom that they understand from a end-user point of view.
If developers don't want to add a list of what works and what doesn't to the OP, then they don't have to. If developers want to help flashers in their decision-making process (and likely boost the number of people using their rom), then adding such a list might help.
As far as I can tell, that's the end of the story.
So if the Op doesn't state what's working, then people have the right to clutter threads and annoy them, right? Its a win win situation, unless devs like being asked the same question a billion times. It could help keep the clutter to a minimum but its up to the devs. Not that I'm demanding a perfect op, but there are reasons as to why people ask and ask.
1. Too lazy to read.
2. Fast response wanted(see 1)
3. Op doesn't state what's working.
4. Search doesn't always help( at least for me on the xda app.)
5. People want a solution.

OP, your post has been noted and understood. But so that there isn't any bashing/flaming happening, closing the thread, as I removed a couple "not needed" type of posts already in this thread.
Thank You.
Hello all, I have been tweaking screen sensitivity on a couple of phones and have a script to try out on the ET4G. Since I no longer have the phone I need about 10 testers to download the script, push it to the proper place, set permissions and reboot. And tell me if the script makes your screen twice as sensitive (or thereabouts lol). Pm please.... If it works I will put it in the developers area for all to use and credit the testers there:good:
I'm willing to test. Questions though... Did you build it for AOSP /AOKP or TW. What are the current devices you have it on? What are the issues per device that you or other testers encountered.
I don't think many people will test without those questions answered first. Not trying to be rude, but I personally don't want to have to diagnose and fix an issue if i can help it.
Please update the OP with that information.
