Back in November I used AAHK to root, ENG S-OFF etc. my phone so that I could flash a custom rom. It installed ClockWorkMod 5.0.2.0 (I think) by default.
When I updated ROM Manager via Market the other day it said that there's a version of ClockWorkMod Touch available for my phone on their website, but I couldn't flash it via fastboot. Gives me this:
sending 'recovery' (3554 KB) ... OKAY [0.641s]
writing 'recovery' ... FAILED (remote: not allowed)
Same thing happens when I try to flash a new radio.
The commands I'm using are:
adb reboot bootloader
fastboot flash recovery recovery-clockwork-touch-5.8.1.5-ace.img.
Anything I'm doing wrong? Am I missing something?
Thanks,
Ideon
I answered you I the other thread. You don't have engsoff, so you need to.flash it through a pd98img formatted zip
Thanks for the answer
I have 2 questions:
1. Do you have any idea where I could find a safe guide with which I can ENG S-OFF my phone? I see you warned me on the other thread about not doing it if my phone came shipped with 2.3, but it came with Froyo, so I guess I could try this method.
2. In the case point (1) doesnt work, how do I create a custom pd98img.zip file? (I asked this on the other thread as well )
1) you can try jkoljo's easy radio off tool.
2) their is a thread in the Dev that has some already ready to flash. But if the one you want is not listed what you can do is take one the pd98 zip, delete the radio.img and put the one you want in. I personally use 7zip to do this.
Thanks for the tip regarding jkoljo's tool Worked like a charm. Flashed both the radio and the CWM Touch recovery interface. +1
How would I apply different themes to my touch recovery? Thanks
I used to have one of these themes for the recovery interface but it clearly states
The 4EXT themes are to be used on madmaxx82's brilliant 4EXTRecovery which can be found here.

I no longer have the 4EXTRecovery since i flashed CWM Touch so...dunno if there are custom themes for it yet.

Hi!
First sorry for my english...
So my problem is the next:
I've got a HTC Vision, i'm done with the rooting and s-off by using this guide: http://forum.xda-developers.com/wik...Phone.2C_Set_SuperCID.2C_and_Turn_Radio_S-OFF
Everything went fine, now i can get su in term emulator, i see s-off in fastboot, but when i try to flash recovery or splash screen i always get errors like this: (with splash.img it's the same)
C:\adb>fastboot flash recovery recovery.img
sending 'recovery' (4442 KB)...
OKAY [ 0.779s]
writing 'recovery'...
FAILED (remote: not allowed)
finished. total time: 0.780s
I have no idea where should i start debugging...
I'm running Virtuous 1.0.1 and i'v got a modded cwm recovery (3.0.0.5) to charge with power off
Anyone can help me please?
EDIT:
In the wiki i read this:
"Assuming you've backed up your phone with Clockwork's nandroid, you can install the engineering HBOOT (bootloader), which among other things allows you to use fastboot flash (or flashing-over-usb from your computer). This is unnecessary for most users but provides additional functionality for developers. "
Is this mean i can't flash via fastboot without eng hboot?
Sorry if it's a noob question but it seems much difficult like with the normal desire.....
Yes you need the ENG. Hboot to push commands in fastboot.

I was thinking the same thing but I'm not sure, and i don't wanted to brick my new favourite
If you want to flash recovery without the ENG HBOOT you can use this method:

somewhere else i found a solution to flash recovery in shell, and found one to flash splash img in shell too, but thanks...
my problew was only the eng hboot.... before the Vision i had a Bravo, and with that there was everything is simple... unrEVOked to root(1 click), alpharev to s-off(1 click again)... after those i can did everything....
the eng boot is new for me (in android), but now i know what can i do with it and what can i do without it.... but maybe the most important, i know, i can do almost everything without it, the only thing i have to do is to go on a longer way
Some help please...
I've switched to s-off with XTC clip, but now I'm stuck in order to root with hboot 1.0.1. Followed couple of guides like this onefor making a goldcard and custom recovery with PC49IMG.zip to no avail. In fastboot it doesn't give me the choice for the new firmware... thus can't recover unsigned or custom rooted roms. Somewhere in the process I'm mistaken or repeat an error that I cannot find... anyway
How can I recover an earlier RUU from microSD in order to downgrade the bootloader? I don't have a specific choice since I'll go with custom roms just wanna root with an earlier hboot that unrevoked can handle...(english of course)
Apologize in advance since I'm a noob and such subjects have been covered before but i'm tired of rebootin the phone and searchin threads... if anybody can pinpoint me the RUU and the exact process with the standard recovery I would be glad!!! Thanks again..
*In case of a computer need, linux is prefered..
tried to flash with fastboot a cwm recovery ending in a : writing 'recovery'... FAILED (remote: not allowed)..
Also tried to flash with recovery an update.zip ending in signature verification abort..
Still can't get it... it is supposed to be easy ???
If you got s-off:
1) get and flash normally from windows this rom:
RUU_Buzz_HTC_WWE_1.37.405.1_Radio_13.53.55.24H_3.35.19.25_release_151892_signed.exe
2) use unrevoked 3.2 (not latest)
and it will install recovery, after that put some roms onto sd card and flash from recovery
thats it. :> short guide

remote is not supported by your Hboot version, you have to downgrade your rom to 2.1 first and then root it using unrevoked 3.2 test version.
Thanks people! I'm ok now

Hi
I have a PVT4 Desire and would like to do a back-up before i s-off (which cwm doesn't do hence installing AmonRA) so i can install a custom rom. I've already rooted it so i can't use unrevoked to flash AmonRA as it says the firmware is too new. Also i've tried using terminal emulator to flash the recovery but it says flash_image:not found.
How else can i flash AmonRA?
Here is a useful how to:

use the attached update.zip as a fake flash method, it is amonra recovery 1.7.0.5. just put it on ur sd card.
push vol down+power, go into recovery and when you see the triangle push vol up+power and then you ll select flash update.zip, it will take you to amonra recovery
How many times did you run unrevoked? Sometimes you have to run it a few times before it will work.
have you tried to push it using the android flasher utility...ill find the link for it
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=794638&highlight=android+flasher+utility
there you go mate..dont know if it works for pvt-4 ...so simple to use i used it to get amon ra because i had the same problems with unrevoked
That will not work because he is S-ON
@MatDrOiD i've tried using that method but it says flash_image: not found.
@thanito thanks for the file but when i went in to recovery and did apply sdcard:update.zip or install zip from sd card it stayed on CWM and didn't change to AmonRA.
@bailz2506 i haven't s-off'd yet i need to make a nandroid back-up first just in case before i can and CWM won't do it for the PVT4 Desire.
Isn't there a PC36IMG.zip for AmonRa for the Desire like there is with the other devices so i can do it the bootloader way?
hi mate,
at the beginning meet same problem... phone rooted but unable to do nand backup
E:misc error file doesn't exist... blablabla
i solved this by rerooting the phone with this cmw3.21 http://dl.dropbox.com/u/22152187/reflash_package3.21.exe
once done, i succesfully made a nanbck.
first i s-OFFed the devices and afterwards flash the recovery with fastboot to install Ar 2.0.1
http://dl.dropbox.com/u/22152187/recovery-RA-desire-v2.0.1.img
hope this help sorting this
@fragargon nope that didn't work,it still stayed on the same CWM and didn't differ.
@aamir007: Do you have another update.zip file in your sd card?
Did you flash CWM through rom manager?
If so try to delete the file first and copy the one i attached you in sd root.
T.
Oh,man!you can use the pb99img.zip into hboot,it will let you to update

Don't say things that have nothing to do with this.
What you could do is return to stock. Then run Unrevoked again.
@Thanito I tried it again and deleted the existing one but still no luck
@Lennyz1988 Guess i'll have to do that. Is there any RUU i should avoid using that will update my hboot and make it unrootable. I've made a goldcard so i shouldn't have any problems flashing the RUUs.
hi aamir007,
amazing that didn't work, it was working and got a pvt4 also.
assuming that you are still on cmw (don't know your version) could you try this one
http://dl.dropbox.com/u/22152187/recovery-clockwork-2.5.1.8-bravo.img
just launch unrevoked select first the menu and custom recovery (browse to the one downloaded) make sure that "disable security on phone is checked)
should get sorted of this, it was for me.
about RRu depends the rom you have settings/about phone/software you could see all current version rom and radio running on your phone which matter for rru
http://shipped-roms.com/index.php?category=android&model=Bravo
hope this help
@fragargon I tried it again and this time UnRevoked said is the firmware too new like it does when i try to use it to flash AmonRA, and still on CWM 2.5.0.7.
So i'm going to flash an RUU do i need to flash the same Baseband or lower to make sure its still rootable and the hboot doesn't change.

Try to use unrevoked 3.2 (also integrate amonra recovery) for rooting:

The ruu you flash should fit to baseband.
No warranty for any damage!
For a nandroid backup do you need S-OFF?
A friend has a PVT-4 and is using CWM and his backs up fine but he said you need to S-OFF first.

You can nandroid backup and restore without s-off.
Solved my problem, i S-Off'ed and installed the AlphaRev CWM during the process and i can preform a nandroid back-up perfectly fine
Ok,
Yesterday I used the Alpharev.nl S-OFF flash tool to S-OFF my phone. I went with the Bravo Stock image of theirs.
However, after installing it changed my recovery from Clockwork 2.5.0.7 to a newer version. I was to understand that 2.5.0.7 works the best?
Anyway, I want to use Amon-RA's recovery as the developer for my ROM says this is the one they personally use and recommend, plus you can still boot into Clockwork via ROM Manager, just in case.
I've tried to use unrEVOked to flash Amon-RA 2.0.1 recovery image, but it failed.
How do I change to AMON-RA?
Also, I don't like the "Why so Serious S-OFF" boot image that comes with the Alpha-rev HBOOT after S-OFF'ing. How do I change this?

I wouldn't change recoveries or do fake flashing because of higher possibility of usb bricking your phone. For me any of the following versions of cwm, 2.5.0.7 and 2.5.1.8 have been stable and without any issues with any rom so far.
Morning,
Please recently i have flashed a new Custom ROM in my HTC Desire A8181 that i found in ClockWorkMod web site!!! I flashed it in my phone with Rom Manager Premium v4 because more recent ROM Manager didn't install in my HTC Desire with Android 2.1 update 1. The Recovery that i used is one which installed by unrevoked3! The Problem is after installation of new ROM my phone doesn't boot well! It show the first white screen with HTC writed on it after it's showing black screen with ANDROID writed on it and stop there! No more action!!! I don't understand!!!
My radio is 4.05.00.11
HBOOT 0.75.0000
S-ON
I can't pass in S-OFF because revolutionnary doesn't work with my model HBOOT! How can i do! I wonder if it's possible to reinstall a new ROM in Recovery mode!!!
use bortak's troubleshooting guide stickied to the top of Q&A
you'll need to RUU, recommend the 2.3.3 GB one. then use revolutionary to s-off. afterwards flash 4ext recovery (see my sig), it's better and can partition your sd card properly. then full wipe and flash a new rom.
uninstall rom manager, do not use it on this phone, it is bad for desire. it may be the reason you're having these problems in the first place.
Problem with fastboot or bootloader!
Please, i can't use fastboot in my PC well! When i try some instruction like flash my hboot to a newer in fastboot SDK because my hboot is too old to be S-OFF by revolutionnary I got an error! It say it can verify the signature of my bootloader! That's what writen in my command!
c:\fastboot>fastboot flash hboot bravo_alphasspl.img
sending 'hboot' (512KB)...
OKAY [ 0.095s]
writing 'hboot'...
(bootloader) signature checking...
FAILED (remote:signature verify fail)
finished. total time: 0.169s
It does same thing i try to erase system, boot or userdata! Please help!
slow down, have you even followed the guide?
- have you installed the fastboot drivers in order to be able to use it.
- you can't flash an hboot unless you are s-off
- run the 2.3.3 RUU like i said, then s-off using revolutionary
try the guide again..
Okay! Thanks i think that Download RUU Froyo like it says in the tread is the most way for me to resolve my problem!!!
