I'm running cm7 and need to update my PRL. I know I need to be running a sense ROM to do this but would like to know before I begin. Can I simply flash a sense ROM over cm7, update PRL, then re flash my current setup (ROM, kernal, etc..)?
I remember when I was flashing different ROM's before I had to do full wipe and go through all the hassle's. I'm just trying to find the simplest and most painless procedure to update my PRL's.
Thanks in advance for any help.
Make a nandroid backup
Wipe and flash sense rom
update prl
restore nandroid
prls and the different radios stay on your phone between rom flashes and restores
will the nandroid backup restore all my apps and such too?
From my experience yes it will restore apps widgets layouts preferences everything besides prl will be the way you backed it up hope I could help
thanks for the help. ill let you know how it turns out.
No problem its why the forums are here
All is good! nandroid backup->full wipe->flash sense rom->update PRL->nandroid restore->PROFIT!! thanks again for the help, much appreciated!

Sorry for sounding like a noob….because I am … lol
I couple weeks ago I rooted Evo using the
SimpleRoot OTA 1.47.651.1 method
Then Installed Fully rooted stock 1.47.651.1 in one shot (no adb!)
Did nandroid backup
Then I installed Sprint Lovers ROM (including 2.05.00.06.01 wimax/baseband radios)
Been enjoying, installing apps, customizing.
Use Titanium Backup to backup regularly
Now I want to try some other ROMs like CyanogenMod-6!
I now have installed Rom Manager
Flashed ClokWorkMod Recovery (2.5.0.1)
And did another nandroid backup
So now can I just flash a different ROM, use Titanium restore to restore applications such as K-9 Mail and all my settings/accounts/etc and these will work on the new ROM?
Then if I want, I just use nandriod restore and Evo will be exactly where I am today (with Sprint Lovers)?
If so, does restoring applications/data also work backing up on a 2.1 ROM and restoring on 2.2 ROM?
For the most part, yes. But there may be some issues restoring EVERYTHING from Ti back to a different ROM. Start with just apps you need, then accounts, see how that goes. I haven't had issues, but it might just be cleaner that way, and if it's not that difficult to just set up your accounts again, you could avoid potential issues that way.
But, yes, Ti should give everything back to you after the flash. Even scenes!
Also don't forget to wipe before flashing!
Just a little confused about restoring after wiping and flashing ROM. I will have Nandroid and Titanium backups. What do I restore. I'm assuming the Nandroid is for reverting back and the Titanium apps+data is what I want to use with the new ROM. Sorry if this is dumb but I don't want to screw this process up!
I've also posted about running UnrevokedForever first or not. I just don't like that it can't be undone. I understand that I can still upgrade the radio to 2.05 and flash a custom 2.2 ROM but is this not a good idea? Am I much better off applying s-off and going that route and using the newer radio?
Thanks for all the great help................mm
You use Titanium to get all your user apps back on your phone without having to go to the market and reloading them one at a time. Nandroid is what you use when things go crash, boom, bang, and you have to go backward to fix things. Hope that's understandable.
That's what I thought. Thanks!
I found the new PRL in a zip format is there anyway to install this new PRL update without switching roms and updating it that way? I tried flashing it and that didnt work. It says it cant find the update something or other to finish.
Also noob question. If I creat a nand back up and switch roms play with all sorts of settings and so forth and then deside to restore my nand. Will my restored nand have everything like my contacts and settings and apps already setup without pretty much acting like i just installed a new rom fresh and now I need to redo all my settings and so forth?
Thanks, Thomas
In order to update PRL you need to flash a sense ROM, update the PRL and Profile then flash back to CM.
When you do a nandroid backup it creates an exact backup at the time you make it. Restoring it will restore your phone to the exact state it was in when you made your backup.
not exactly true on nandroid information.
A nandroid does not back up everything. for CM6 users you can make a nand droid flash a new rom flash the prl and restore the Nand and KEEP the new PRL for example same with profile and radios. nand does not back up radios recovery or prl. So while it will be very close it is not truly an exact back up of your phone.
to answer the question though yes you can make a nand droid of a rom play with another rom and flash back anytime you want with out having to reset up all your settings apps etc. Many of us use this method to experiment with different roms (making a nand of each and switching periodically)

Thanks, both of you. lol Yeah I should have played with these things much sooner I have been moding and messing with this phone since almost day one.
For some reasone I could have sworn I flashed the last PRL update on my wifes Hero but obviously thats not the case.
Hi all.
Perhaps this is a newbie query but here you go.
I've been flashing stock rooted OTA's from the beginning, and always chose Odexed over Deodexed I suppose because of file size. Now, I'm looking to diversify and have the ability to theme etc.
Can I flash a deodexed over an odexed rooted 4.53.651.1 OTA with out data loss?
I assume I can just wipe dalvik, and cache then apply yes?
The specific thread I'm referring to is here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=17642327&postcount=1
As I'd like to incorporate this with out flashing an entirely new rom. I'm cool with stock rooted goodness.
Thanks!
Best bet is to do a nandroid backup and try it out. If you have issues, just restore your backup.
If it doesn't work out for you, you can always just backup everything you need with Titanium Backup and an sms backup app if you want to save your messages. Then do a full wipe and flash the deodexed rom. The only data you will not be able to restore is your homescreen. It may restore, but widgets will not load.
I have found that it always helps my phone to do a full wipe every few weeks, even though I've only flashed updates of the same rom for the past few months. I could get away without wiping data, but I like a fresh start every now and then. Things run more smoothly, and I cut down drastically on my number of useless apps by not batch restoring everything.

I was wondering, if I was on any of CM10, paranoid, aokp 4.2 roms, and wanted to nandroid back to a 4.1.1 rom. Do I need to still used the Restore-SDcard-after-downgrade zip? and if so, In what order? I search over the forums looking for similar questions hoping not to clutter the forum with repeat questions so sorry in advance if I missed it.
Simple answer, no...
A nandroid backup is a actual backup of what ever system you are currently running.
So if you dont like the rom your on you can restore your backup and your back to where you were before...
With that being said, I think your actually talking about a different backup. Titanium or an app similar where it restores your installed applications without having to individually do it.
And the answer to that is yes and no...if your going from two different roms you should not restore data as there may be conflicts.
But you may always restore applications from any version of android to another.
Or...are you talking about the partition difference from 4.2 to 4.1.* roms?
Hope this helps

I was talking more about the partition difference from the 4.2 to 4.1 roms. I didn't know if a nandroid has the same affect as flashing back to a 4.1.1 . and was wondering should I flash the zip they provided to fix the partition issue? or don't worry and just nandroid back to what i have when i'm want.
When i restore back to 4.1 i use the zip after i restore. Brings back all the sd locations back to where they were. If i dont use the zip i would have to manually change each folder to where it should be on 4.1. Thats why i use the zip to avoid that hassle.
Thank you so much for answering Avatar my question, so whenever i want to switch back to my touchwiz rom, I will just used the zip. thanks again!
