ICS like face unlock - Epic 4G Apps

Not sure if it has been mentioned, but I wanted to ICS out my phone, and one of the big (gimmicky) features of ICS is face unlocking. I would like to recommend Visidon for the task, it works so well on CM7, and with the theme I have on, it is just about as close as it can get. You need the plus version for the lockscreen funtionality, or you can lock it to your homescreen and set the time out at screenoff (however you have to be on the homescreen for it to work when the screen is off, or it will come up when you go to the homescreen). I like it, maybe you will too.

When cm9 comes out and is stable enough. We might have face unlock.

What do yu have to have for it to work? Only ICS? I thought I saw a complete theme that had it for GB, but I could have been mistaken... oh well, TW doesn't hurt my feelings at all.

I am in the exact same boat, down to the ROM and everything. I love everything about CleanGB except I'd like to have more lockscreen functions (especially camera!).
Widgetlocker is great because you can customize it down to the last inch, but I didn't like the idle resource and battery drain. Same with the Magic Locker ICS theme (which is great because it has calls and SMS notification counts built in, and it's free). But both are simply apps that float on top.
Until there's an ICS style lock that I can zip into, I guess I'll go back to the stock touchwiz. Thanks Kenny.

Widgetlocker uses 5-6mb of ram and does not affect performance or battery. That's less ram than swype and just barely more than vvm.

May have to try out the widgetlocker, but would rather have a straightup lockscreen. I don't understand why it couldn't be ported over, though.

Aha. I found out why it seemed to be draining the battery faster. I've been using juice defender to cut 3G when the screen is off. The problem is that JD won't recognize these apps as a true screenlock, so it doesn't turn off 3G.
I recently bought tasker so I'll try learning how to use that for controlling connectivity instead.
-tory
I hear tasker> jd. In fact I hear all around jd is junk. Even used it myself once and it definitely did nothing to help.

Love how everybody keeps saying that... works great for me! Guess its just one of thsoe ymmv things... I only use it cuz I forget to cut off my data when not using it...
Sent from my SPH-D700 using Tapatalk
I'm happy with my setup your happy with yours. It's all good.
Sent from my SPH-D700 using Tapatalk
Well, JD worked well enough for me to notice a drastic difference in my battery idle. With the JD inactivated and 3G hooked up, I would drain 4-5% per hour at idle. Cutting idle 3G made for a much nicer 1% per hour.
Tasker is much more controllable. Now I have it set up so that only apps that require data turn on 3G when activated. This is great because JD only toggled connectivity with the screen status. Now I can use the camera, text, or play games without 3G turning on at all. There is a 2 second lag for switching on 3G that I usually have to refresh for, but the kill speed after exiting is instantaneous. Great program.
Don't mean to hijack, I know this is moving away from the OP's (and my) question. Let's hear it for a baked-in ICS lock coming soon!

You can use MIUI locker and download the ICS theme

Do we have to use touchwiz to benefit from the S pen features?

Or will they still work in nova launcher? (obviously still on a Sammy rom, not aosp)
Thanks
You obviously still can use all the features with another launcher, you just have to use stock apps (video player, email, gallery, dialer ... etc)
To make use of spen features, you only need those tw frameworks. You may use spen features on any launcher provided you have those frameworks.
And as you said,it will work on Sammy based roms only.It won't work on AOSP,AOKP roms as they lack tw frameworks.....
Sent from my GT-N7000 using xda app-developers app
As others have mentioned before, you can use any launcher.
But for the S-Pen functionality, you need to use the stock apps provided by Samsung.
You "might" lose out on some of the functionality, if you change the launcher. This is just my guess.

For apps that support pressure sensitivity it will work just fine (take a look at the note 10.1 forum for some examples), but I THINK you still need to be on a TW based rom. I'm not sure though, too bad I no longer have my Note 1 to check it.
i ordinarily flash straight to pure aosp from whatever manufacturer paint job the phone comes with (sense, touchwiz, blur), but after watching the hands on video i may actually stay stock with the note 2, my only reason for switching from stock on my gs3 was ICS/big red not pushing out JB, but the s-pen functions look so good.

So ADW Launcher finally updated

way back in the days of GB, adw was at the top, but lost its top spot due to lack of updates. But now its updated and i have to say, im impressed. Its not as smooth as nova yet, but i bet that will change in a future update since this is its first major release in forever (plus, if you install v6 supercharger script the lag dissapears). But its performance is so good i can defiantly use this over nova. I particularly like its widget picker, its different in a good way. They have an action bar feature thats new (to me anyway, dont know if theres something like it on other launchers). And theres also a resize screen option thats also neat, especially if your running paranoid android.
Unfortunatly i already found a bug. The dock dissapears into thin air at some point, and the only way to get it back is to reset adw settings. Im still investigating which option causes this bug, but i just thought i would put that out there.
Im also interested in knowing is this update enough for old users to love adw again
I'll just leave this here...

Judging from the comments in the play store, it looks like the update ticked a lot of people off and is somewhat buggy, but I'm sure the bugs will get ironed out promptly. Good to see it's not dead

yea it is buggy. the app drawer is a big laggy with any transition and the dock bar likes to vanish, but i still find it useable and i love it. I havent gotten the chance to install v6 supercharger script to see if it helps with the drawer lag (i assume it will, since it did wonders to adw on ics). And im sure it will be updated regularly now, at least i hope it does.
Got the update this morning. Bought EX version a while ago. Tried it and yeah, new version is a little buggy. Hopefully they'll get it right.
I was using it on GB and JB builds up to FI03 then it got goofy. Had to switch to Nova.
Hopefully they can get it working right.

Was my launcher of choice on GB and below. When ICS launchers came out I started using those but they never allowed me the amount of customization I wanted, not until recently have they finally caught up.
Now that ADW is back, it is my main launcher again. It allows me so much customization and since I change screens and setups alot it's perfect for me.
It's very buggy. Since the update my widgets keep disappearing at random times, and my settings revert back. It's frustrating.

Opinions on 4.2

Does anyone truly like it? I find the extra page for toggles to be an annoyance to get to, and requires extra time. It just looks nice. The lock-screen also defeats all purpose of having a lock screen, and removes useful shortcuts (I know these can be added in through some cm or aokp builds but still). I didn't think it was possible for a new android version to really take a step back in terms of functionality but 4.2 really did. Scrolling isn't nearly as good as it was in 4.1 as well. But this is all my opinion, I'm interested to hear what you guys think. I'm looking to drop back to 4.1, and I'm hoping key lime pie gets rid of lock-screen widgets

I like it.. Looks pretty good.
Although, I do agree somewhat with the lockscreen. When I had messages as one of the pages on the lockscreen, I wish I could just text them from there. But instead, you press it and it goes to the messaging app instead.
Agreed. With lockscreen and toggles. If I remember correctly though, pure AOSP that ships on nexus devices prior to 4.2 didn't have toggles. That's a luxury that was only afforded to root users. So really it was a step forward.
In my opinion though, they should have implemented CM's toggles and called it good.

I'm getting 3.5 or so screen time consistently with black bean. I'm actually getting better battery life than ICS out the box and with the same installed apps. Smooth performance too. 4.2.2 ROMS

Is there any real difference between CarbonRom and liquid smooth ROMS as both are based on 4.2.2 !!
There are minor differences between the two. Honestly, I've been switching between the two for a few weeks now, and I still don't know which one I like better. They are both supported regularly by awesome devs.
I know this isn't the answer you wanted, but I'd say try them both out and see which one you prefer. I eventually landed on Liquid Smooth, but it wasbasically a coin toss.

From what I noticed in general daily use, LiquidSmooth has an hdr feature in their camera, and a few more customization options (qs tiles color settings, notification drawer) but probably only because they have a more current release. I'm pretty sure Carbon will implement these features as well in their next release.
Performance wise, at least for my phone, there aren't any noticeable differences. Both use linaro (i think) but then again, results vary for each phone.
Yeah liquidsmooth has hdr feature but no photosphere which can be flashed also. Basically it all comes to what features are included in both rom and which gets regular updates through goo manager

Bro you are running the newest Liquid Smooth (v2.1 STABLE) right?! If you are:
1. Go to settings
2. Go to "Lockscreen" (right under "Interface")
3. Scroll all the way down to "Widgets"
4. Check the "Camera Widget" box (shows the camera widget on lockscreen)
5. Lock your phone
6. Wake your phone up, and from the lockscreen scroll to the right and... BAM there's your camera and you can take a pic from the lockscreen!
Hope that helps!
