Hello,
I dont now which phone to choose. I like both of them. I like Htc sense and touchwiz too. What i need from the phone ?
1. Good media player
2. Good internet browsing
3. good gps
Im thinking to buy a galaxy S, but i heard about cool thing for htc desire called OpenDesire. This thing makes desire really super phone. How do you think will something similar will be gor galaxy S ?
OpenDesire is a stock Android ROM, removing all the HTC Sense gubbins, and isn't something 'available' for the Galaxy S as it's written specifically for the Desire...
im really confused because i dont which phone to choose :/.
Definitely go Desire all the way.
I have heard people complaining the Sammy is slow in menus and GPS is super crap. Takes long to get a lock etc.

hello, I had both Galaxy S as well as the Desire I returned the Galaxy S after just 3 days of use as the battery life was just appalling! It was laggy, hated the UI (very slow compared to previous versions of TouchWiz) and also hated the "iPhone style" in the menu.. I hate iOS which is why I got Android! Also, the screen is very nice, but I really could not put it into my own pocket! Anyways whats the differance 0.3 inches eh?
Now that I('ve got the Desire, I just love it! Sense UI, fast, snappy, and NO lag! NEVER! Notofications bar, better than any notificatio0ns you get on any other phone, pull it down and sellect what you want! Love it! Camera is, well, equal, I dont use it that much to notice!
Music player, very good however in the Desire you dont get an equalizer! Once again, I love the phone!
It may seem that I am being biased, but thats the way I feel Just one more thing, when you type, you make mistakes, just like everyone, on the Galaxy S you have to use you fingers to get that little line to move where you want to correct, whereas on the Desired, you can use the Track Pad! Love this feature!
ohh and about the GPS.. well Galaxy S has accuracy of 5-30 meters (didn't get to test myself, thats what I've read), and on mine Dersire, 1-3 Meters! now you know which to pick!
hope this helps! good Luck!
Thanks for your post. Really helpfull.
But samsung galaxy S is getting 2.2froyo with a lot of fixes and also GPS fix. So i think they will fix lag . Also there's a lagfix for samsung.
Hi, why don't you go to a store, check them both, and buy the one which steals your heart
that's what I do if I need to chose between several phones
You now you can try each of them. But you cant try GPs and other stuff. Its better to ask in forum, because people owns that phones and can say much more prons/cons than you find by trying them
I own both phones. In fact I had a Desire and got rid of it for an iPhone but recently upgraded my contract and got a Galaxy S.
It's a great phone with some nice features such as 720p mkv video playback, streaming is nice too and the Super AMOLED screen is MUCH nicer than the SLCD in the Desire now. Movies look gorgeous on this thing.
However I chose to use the Desire again because it's got a few extras which I missed such as flash, LED notifications, the amount of custom roms available currently including Cyanogenmod 6 (currently use) and also the lag on the Galaxy S was driving me nuts in the end! Even with custom roms and lag fixes applied it would still lag sometimes, especially when trying to answer phone calls. The battery in the Galaxy did seem to a last a bit longer than the desire but I'm sure that can be sorted by watching what apps I use / finding the perfect rom.
At the end of the day they are both great phones and I'm sure you would love whichever one you had. My Dad borrowed my phone today and was watching mks in his dinner hour at work and was so impressed!
Its so hard to make a decision. Desire with OPenDesire ROM is super phone. So fast and battery lives longer and much more. I very like Galaxy S, but he have a buggy OS

I had the problem after returning the Galaxy S, I had 2 choices, SE X10 or the Desire, was not disapointed
so the best choice now from androids is HTC Desire ?

If you are asking it on Desire forum, what else would you expect? I personally have desire and I'm very satisfied with it. Earlier I had Galaxy Spica which was ok also over the earlier non-android phone.

Given the Desire is nearly 6 months old now, I'd be inclined to wait a month or two if I were you as new models should launch shortly.
Regards,
Dave
But i heard that samsung have a buggy OS. And have no costum ROMs and etc. There's a lot of good roms for Desire, including the OpenDesire which makes your phone super
Personally I would prefer the Desire over Galaxy S.
I've had a little look at the Galaxy S and I think the camera app is a bit superior over the HTCs built in stuff - and when it gets the FroYo update it will probably be even more so.
But everything else seems nicer, smoother in the Desire.
Also I don't like the iPhone-esque of the Galaxy S - didn't like the iPhone - felt it was restrictive and thus went to Android in the first place... it was either that or the win Phone 7 - and that seems more orientated towards Xbox...
i were almost buying Galaxy S, but then i heard about super thing called OpenDesire. And heard that samsung OS is buggy, laggy. And no costum ROMs
HTC Desire HD/Ace is out soon apparently and looks nice, as is the Desire Z (but that might be US only)

As I understand it, it will be released as the Desire Z in Europe, and the G2 in the US.
However, reports today suggest that the processor is underclocked to 800Mhz, which may mean it is being pitched as a lower end phone than the current Desire. Time will tell, as clock speed isn't everything!

Not very smart to ask this in this section
Hello there dear Desire Z community!
I am thinking of upgrading my htc desire for a deisre z but i am torn between the DZ and galaxy S..So i went ahead and decided to ask a list of factors before i make my purchase (because i am obviously leaning towards the Z)..
1) and most probably most important. How is the battery life (e.g compared to a desire-n1) ?
2)is the screen viewable under direct sunlight? (desire sucked at this)
3)how is it in terms of GPU graphics compared to these devices? : iphone4 ,galaxy s,desire hd?
4)Does it suffer from the same multitouch bug the deisre/n1 do?And if not it can use true multitouch or dual touch?
5)How is the dev support around here? i know CM is also supporting a rom for DZ/G2 ,but are there are others devs doing nice work on the device?
6)Is there anything u miss from this device ?
36 views and no reply?i only asked because these questions can be answered by only someone that has lived with the phone for a while..
It does have proper multi-touch, but I can't answer your other questions, since this is my first Android phone. And I love it

appreciate your feedback sir..enjoy your new handheld!
1) Battery life is amazing, much better than the N1. I can stretch around 18 hours with HEAVY use (mostly texting non-stop )
2) Under direct sunlight the phone does pretty well, just have to crank up the brightness. Remember, this is no S-AMOLED, but still does pretty well.
3) Best GPU I've had so far, Comes pretty close to the Galaxy S.
4) No multi touch problems Tracks 4 fingers independently
5) We have awesome dev support Most notably Enom and Cyanogen himself and the dev support will only increase over time...
6) Coming from a N1, I can say I don't miss anything. The G2 is a proper successor to the N1, better then that crap Samsung Nexus S garbage.
Note: GALAXY S IS COMPLETE GARBAGE. Feels like a cheap plastic toy
I forgot who it was, and what thread. But there is somebody on here that switched from a Galaxy S to the Vision, and he said the Vision was a much better phone. Do some reading on the CPU lag and GPS issues on the Galaxy S to help you decide. Also, being an HTC device, and also since it has the hardware keyboard, the Vision will likely remain a favorite of developers for some time.
In my opinion, the Vision is only the SECOND android phone worth owning. The first being the Dream. N1 wasn't good -- touch screen keyboards are ok for punching in something very SHORT, like a market search term, but anything longer and you're bashing your head against a wall. Faster or not, a lack of a keyboard is DEBILITATING. What can you do with fast if you can't get your data into it. All other keyboard androids suffered from retard issues, like incorrect button alignment and/or being motorola.
Also note that the Vision is the direct successor of the Dream (not the N1). I.e., a vision is kind of like a dream, but more powerful. It has basically the same characteristics of the Dream, but more and faster. The naming is also designed to imply a succession.... Its "vision" as in having a vision of the future, rather than "vision" as in seeing something with your eyes.
Thats great!thanks for the feedback and extra info all of u guys...i guess it turns out the only thing i miss is the better screen part..I think i will enjoy the hw kb!
So i sold my Desire Z cuz i didnt like the keyboard and it was faulty, so now i need a new phone. I have always had my eyes on the defy right before i even bought my DZ. So now i am between buying the Defy or the Ideos X5, or should i wait and buy a proper and better phone like the SGS II? I dont have any heavy or high usage, i want good call quality, playing some 3d-games, messaging, browsing and checking email and so on.. i can get it for 300€~ here where i live in sweden so do u think defy is worth picking up? I have been watching reviews all the day and i still dont know if i should pick it up or not? whats ur thoughts about this?
i've also heard about the faulty earpiece is this fixed with the new defys or is it still common?
edit: oh ive also got another question: when u decide to put on pattern lock, and when u put the phone to sleep and wake it up does it go through motorola default lock -> unlock pattern -> phone opens or is it unlock pattern -> phone opens?
the whole earpiece fiasco is fixed in new defy's, and if your defy is running 2.1 then yes you can turn of the normal lock screen and only have a pattern, any 2.2 rom will require you to have the lockscreen (so default lock -> unlock pattern -> phone opens) this is a problem of froyo not the defy. I'm unsure but i believe there are apps that remove teh default lock screen
Hi
The earpiece problem was never common just more than average, i know five people including me that have a Defy and non of us has the earpiece Problem.
Moreover we are all very happy with it, its the best android phone that came in to my hands so far. In my opinion, the only phone that can compete from the hardware point of view is the Samsung Wave, but it doesn't have Android on it.
the only reason to buy another is if you want a larger screen, but thats personal taste, i didn't
greetings
I used to have a Desire...i like my Moto Defy much more. This is my 4th Android handset...not due another until next February and i know this phone will be good to me until then!
I came to the defy from a spica and i love this phone: all applications runs very smoothly, and for me having it resistant and waterproof is useful (under rain or at beach
For the earphone problems, it seems that it has been fixed with the reçent deliveries.
Pros of the defy:
Life-proof
Great scree
fast processor (that over-clocks well)
Cons:
Ear-piece failure
MotoBlur
Android 2.1 and very very slow update schedule.
Personally now I have put a blurless 2.2 on and had my ear-piece fixed I like the phone again. My advice go for it, but buy it from somewhere with a generous returns policy!
Olly
Should add I am using the 2.2 rom from ephumuris. Good work mate, cheers!

With custom roms and ear-piece fix there is no more cons
But if you want to keep the warranty the cons are still here... That's up to you

i fail to see how blur is a problem when you can just use launcher pro and forget about blur, even my bog standard defy used as just a phone will hit 5 days of standby. Some people even like blur you know *shock horror*

thx mate, but in galaxy S u can use unlock pattern -> phone opens that was something that annoyed me in the desire z, but in my friends galaxy s it worked very well with just unlock pattern...
is the defy hard to root? i heard u only need z4root and then its done?
Z4root didnt work for me on 2.51. Super one click for 2.1 however worked great. Have to run it windows though.
Sent from my Defy on CM7.
despite the hole ear piece problem , i liked it ,cause i've bought jabra street bt headset and i'm using my phone with total freedom plus all the games are working smoothly like nova 2 it's damn perfect.
so i'm one of the biggest fans. even i really recommend it more than ericsson arc

The problem with it is not the widgets or the launcher (I use ADW). The problem for me has been wonky Facebook sync and the odd infinite loop and battery drain with the exchange sync. Admittedly I have not seen this with blur on versions 2.51 and above.
Maybe not a big problem, but certainly in my top three gripes.

I think this phone is a best-buy, especially here in Romania, where you can get it pretty cheap, compared to other phones with a similar screen. For me very important is the screen resolution, and you cannot get any better then this, without going to a tablet. The processor speed is irelevant, and 800MHz is enough for everyday use. It can be overclocked easily.
thx guys 4 ur answers, i am between this and ideos x5...
the problem is that motorola wont upgrade it beyond 2.2, and i havent got the guts to rooting and puting in custom rom on any phone yet cuz the fear of brickning it
btw how is the phone's GPS? i intend to use it in my car for navigation is it trustable?
I've been a big fan of SE for a long time, but Defy really changed my opinion. Don't know how it is in the rest of the world, but in Brazil Motorola is known to be the reference for well built hardware, durable and resistant phones. This phone has also the best trade-off between price and performance here at the moment. Recommended.
it's totally worth it, especially with such a great community of developers like we have here.
where i live (sweden) there is some retailers who will ship the phone with this rom included as stock http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1040777 and with 2.2 aka no blur !
i just need to see SGS II it seems awesome...but the screen is way to big for me
is 346€ worth for a brand new defy running android 2.2 nordic? without a contract ofc. I wonder if its easy to overclock it to 1000mhz? will it drain my battery if i did it? which program to download for overclocking?

Naturally it depends on the price of other alternatives. But 346€ is a bit expensive compared with ~270€ in HK. It's easy to overclock. Just root and install SetVsel or Milestone Overclock.
This phone is probably one of the worst phones I have ever had, When I first looked at it I though it was slick had a nice screen, good camera, dual mikes, and HDMI out and was not a bad phone, what a silly mistake that was, This phone is a complete and utter PITA ! And this is the list of reasons why I regret this phone and went back to my s2 and why the Ascend p1 is going Asap !
1: This phone get Hot , I don't just mean warm I mean HOT HOT HOT ! You could keep your coffee warm on it ! It sometimes gets so hot you have to turn it off for fear it may damage the camera ! How good is that? The only way to stop it is to lower the clock speed to 1200 which kind of defeats the point ! My old s2 can be working it bum off and it never gets that hot ! Huawei major fail no 1
2: The volume sound quality and volume with some apps is pathetic, apparently you have to turn the radio on and turn the volume down and sometimes it fixes it !! I mean WTF ???? WHAT KIND OF CRAP ARE THEY PUMPING OUT OVER THERE? FAIL No 2 !
3.The signal ! up down.... up down..... up down ....Its like a working girls panties, Never known nothing like ! ..Fail No3
4. Internet keeps disconnecting (CRAP ROM ) Refer to point 2
5.. Updating Firmware to stock is a complete joke! All you get is version verify fail over and over no matter what build.prop you use or recovery you install, I mean whos idea was that? they should be arrested for crimes against humanity and put on trial ...Fail no5
6: no native gsm video calling, you have to use a third party app, and that's a big fail, s2 straight out the box video calling, if your on giffgaff in the uk that's free video calling, could be a deal breaker ..
7: No jellybean official update.. THAT IS A BIG FAIL ! UK Networks are chucking these out 2 a penny at the moment , my advice choose something else !
Its redeeming features are a good screen and not a bad battery life for its size and its slim and that is it ! I will never buy a phone made in china again, the best phone ever made in china was the blade which I have a oled version and its still working and reliable now, never had a problem, no phone can compete with it on price and quality and more important reliability and stability !
Also uses fake ARM cortex a9 cpu(cortext a9) and fakePowerVR sgx540(povervr sgx540) so iI guess that's why it sucks. Maybe get a case for it so you don't get your hands burnt

So GSMarena says Cortext A9 but they mean Cortex A9.P1 has OMAP 4460 chipset, same what gnex got, so its not fake...
Take it back, and ask for a replacement. I've didn't experienced any of these 7 issues, only the video calling thing. I don't think it's important, but I can use the Google Video Chat, which is good enough for me.
Sorry for my bad english.

For me it's one of the best phones I've ever had.. I play games(heavy) on my p1 and they're very smooth!
I use heavy apps all the time and around 20+ apps are open in the background!
My phone gets warm like all other phones, not so HOT, I've experienced it just once in 2 years and that was just once. No complains on this

hi guys!
i just got my s4 mini and overall i'm very happy.
flashed cm11 m12 the first thing i did.
i came from a nexus s which was painfully slow.
however there is one thing that disturbs me and that's the vibrator.
it works and all that but it feels like it's "too slow" or have very few RPM. if you know what i mean?
the vibration on the nexus s was very "fast" and solid.
if i compare the two phones it feels like when i press a button on the nexus s the vibrator does 10-15 "spins" where as the s4 mini only does like max 5 but in the same time frame. like it's tired or something.
is this totally hardware limited or is there a way to change it?
i found this post:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=49813458&postcount=16
does this change the "rpm" of the vibrator or just the "power"?
i guess i could learn how to decompile framework-res and try different settings but i thought maybe some of you guys have already tried it and know if it is futile or not?
or could it be that my vibrator simply is damaged in some way?
i would really appreciate your input on this!
thanks!
