New Epic user root ?

What is the best rom to root? I just got my epic yesterday and I want to root using the latest rom that everyone is really raving about. Thanks in advance!
Sent from my SPH-D700 using XDA App
All roms are rooted
First you root your phone then you can install a custom rom
Ruins don't root your phone u do that through a one click rooter you find in development stickies

Follow the instructions in the top of the threads (stickies) on how to root your phone. Then follow the instructions included for the ROM you choose. Most require you to convert your file system to EXT4 and be on Clockwork Mod 3.0.0.6. So read carefully and post your questions here in the Q&A section.
Do you BONSAI?
Its definitely a big pond to jump into. Rooting and flashing ROMS, to say the least can become an addiction. I have been lurking XDA for a short time now. Owned my epic for about a month until i started making my own changes and trying different ROMs ( when FROYO {2.2} updated my phone began to SUCK so off I went; cannon ball into the pond) one of the biggest helps to me was youtube and the "epic cookbook" http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=967014.... definitely a HUGE help. also simple problems have simple answers. Many others have asked and can be answered with the search field. After you jump in and have a succesful root & flash you will have wondered why you waited. I am no "pro" but am willing to help if needed. Good luck
As for the best.... oneclickroot either 2.5 or 3.0 are wonderful. however i have had much more luck with 3.0 running ext4. Now asking which ROM is better is like asking which car is best, all types of answers. Really depends on what you want and your "taste"
Yes thanks for your replies. I may have not asked my question correctly. I came from the Hero and I rooted that phone till it couldn't be rooted anymore! I'm just on the Epic now and not sure where to begin and where the best rom I should flash. Hero had cyn 2-.2 and thought about flashing gingerbread but just decided to upgrade to the Epic. I'll check around XDA in the stickies.. thx for your replies and further advice is surely appreciated!

What rom is good for me?

I am new to this whole rooting thing and looking for a little advise. Is there any database to see what each rom is capable of?
My main reason for rooting my evo 4g is to fix voice search app that hasnt worked sense the gb update. i would also need the ability to use 4g and hotspot. What Rom is good for me?
Any help would be very appreciated!!
I use MIUI. Its awesome. You can get it in rom manager but the new update will be out tomorrow evening. Try it out and see for yourself.

Experienced users: I need help!!

Hey all! Im not new to XDA but I am new to the Epic 4G Touch, actually, it's my cousin's phone and he's asked me to root it and boot a fast, reliable ROM for him. Problem is, I dont know what I need to do on this phone to make that happen. I have a HTC One X and used to have an Xperia X10 so those are the only two phones i'm familiar with when it comes to rooting/putting CWM on/flashing roms. I tried to do some searching before posting this but only got more confused!!! Can someone explain to me in a short, easy to read fashion, how to ROOT this device, get CWM on it, and put a nice ROM on to?
qbking77 has some good youtube videos on it.

I'd recommend sticking with GB at this time and flashing Blazer 4.1 rom

Not if you follow the proper directions.
Also I think everyone should invest a few bucks in "Mobile ODIN Pro" and root file explorer. Those two apps are all you need to ensure you are safe. Check MD5's and such with root explorer, and mobile ODIN pro lets you safely odin kernels, modems, roms, stock roms, etc with built in MD5 checking.

Hey man I'm from 3d too and all I did was used the stock rooted ics rom and it's running great and was super easy to install. If u want that rom just go in development section and check out ff11 rom from sfhub. It's real easy to install. Not sure what ur looking for but I just wanted ics with root and that will give it to u if u just follow the directions. Good luck!

Follow OP install instructions to the T and your good... Mobile ODIN is well worth the $$!!
fear not grasshopper ...
read, read, read ... follow the directions posted in OP and have patience. many of the tales of bricking are in reality easily resolved by reading the info posted in the various threads. have a good time. most of the folks who use XDA are helpful and pleasant.
Thanks for all of th e feedback i bought mobile odin pro im assuming its better to use odin than to just use the flashable zips since people keep saying to use odin thats kind of new to me on htc it was all flashables or fastboot hopefully ill get the hang of samsung quick cause i love this phone i was a fool for hanging on the 3vo so long i do miss sense specially sense 4.0 but i have the 3d as wifi device now so its all good

I completely agree with bigtoysrock, make sure you follow the OP 100% without deviation and you should be OK.
Also you may want to check out vids on YouTube by Qbking77. His tutorials and reviews have been a huge help for me, might also be for you.

I came from an Evo and a 3D and I don't know how I ever used an htc phone. this device is nearly perfect. flashing with Odin / mobile Odin is a breeze.

I love htc ability to to flash rom I was a flashoholc with my og evo.. Flashing took no more than 3 minutes.. This phone is extremely superior but I have not flahed a single rom since I got my phone for the same reason.. The proces seems complicated not because it's hard but because I got use to a completely different method of flashing.. I guess we just got to get used to the process

I just wanna warn you that sometimes when following an OP's instructions, you may accidentally make a mistake. Therefore I advise you first to understand what you are flashing before you flash it. I.e. in case you don't already know, learn what a kernel is, what different types of kernels are, what not to do (read the brick thread - I think it's a sticky), etc. Also, remember to always make nandroids and check md5 sums.

I agree with both bigtoysrock and wormsign. Follow the OP 100%. I bricked the other day cuz I didn't follow it. Learned my lesson the hard way. Luckily, Sprint replaced it.
Qbking77's vids have been a huge help for me too. I highly recommend them.
guess i should have went with my gut feeling i flashed a few touchwiz roms with no probs then i tried to flask aokp and got a emmc error phone bootlooped then tried to flash back to stock with odin and get stuck on data.img guess i bricked it in one day and it isnt a sprint device i got it off craigs list and flashed it to verizon so no insurance o well maybe there will be a fix soon =(

Galaxy S2 SPH-D710 Model Same as EPIC?

So a friend of mine wants to root his S2. He tells me the model # is SPH-D170. Samsung shows both EPIC & S2 are that model.
I just wanted to confirm if someone can tell me that the root instructions for the EPIC and ROM's work with the sprint S2 as well.
Thanks!

He has the FF18... and sounds like he's screwed... Worth more reading if there is a work around. He's very unhappy with his phone since the OTA... runs like crap & battery is worthless now.
If anyone has any pointers it would be greatly appreciated!

He isn't screwed at all, just use this one click http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1721229 It is FF18 but rooted.
If he wants to change ROM's.. he can just put the phone into download mode, flash a kernel via Odin that will have a custom safe recovery. I suggest Agats kernel found below.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1767421
Just make sure you guys pick out a ROM people swear by Blue Kuban but it really comes down to the person.. if they want a themed ROM or stock experience. take a look around the deving section.
