They have a poll asking what device u have. Tell them you have the epic. I don't know exactly why they're asking, but maybe it'll mean that it'll be optimized for epic if we vote for it.

This sounds exactly like my post on the subject lol.
Whn I asked tis, I got flamed for "being impatient with the devs" and noobnl got insulted lawl
But apparently, its just a developer thing

Because most other phones have a froyo kernel source to start with. Damn the flaming it could be done its possible, but by the time someone wrote the drivers for the Epic from scratch or edited the ones from eclair, we would have been given froyo source. So the answer is it's possible, but why do all that work when it its being done for us. Now if the source hits and we dont see a work in progress its cause the few epic devs there are dont feel like it/ or dont have the time. On a positive note the epic is fairly new, and with more people buying them, I'm sure it will only get better for us.

Google released their generic gingerbread. There are many things that have to be modified or built specifically for our phones that aren't in google's code, like drivers and kernel modules. Our phones aren't the generic standard that gingerbread was built for.

[REQ] puzzle lock screen

Can we get this lock screen!?
i love it.
i wanted it to..but i guess we just got to wait
yeaa i hope someone ports it over.
It's been asked for many times (try searching "puzzle lock"), and many times it's been posted that it's not as easy a port as one might think.
I really hope this happens!
This might be possible now since there is the source code out
Sent from my SPH-D700 using XDA App
Not really. Its part of touchwiz, which is still closed-source.
so y does all the other Galaxy S phones have it were u can pick whatever lockscreen u want from any phone..but we cant
Because they have a newer version of touchwiz
Didn't we get tw 3.0with leaked froyo?

Question From a n00b re: puzzle lock screen...

i know this has been discussed and there's probably a logical reason why we have not managed to get this to work yet on our epics ,still ill give it a mention. ive been digging into themeing a little and noticed deep with in our own
framework/framework-res/drawable-hdpi we have what appears to be that lock screen. (as well as the rotary one) also i noticed that in "schnowdapowda 's Erebos!" port, that within his ported theme , in settings/display/unlock screen it lists it as an option ...however it dose not work. now im hoping that someone with more knowledge of framework can answer my questions, is it possible to somewhere with in, "turn it on"?
if not im sorry for being a stupid noob and let the flaming begin
Yeah I was playing around with it today too. I couldn't get that to work either but mobile ap worked really well. Surprising what things are as simple as installing an .apk and what is framework-deep.
cd's or tapes?
If it was that easy to just turn on it would have have been done already
Sent from my SPH-D700 using Tapatalk
The Erebos theme Settings.apk is from the I9000 I believe. That's why it has this extra option for Unlock Screen.

Switch Tasks like Ice Cream Sandwich

I REALLY like the ICS task switcher.
I have the ICS+ launcher and it works great
I want to switch tasks with a button though
I currently use TaskXP to switch apps
Any suggestions?

Does the "Long-Press Home" feature not work in your Rom?
(It basically does exactly the same thing, no?)
*Also, it brings up the full task manager shortcut as well, in addition to all your recents...
I use "long-press home" second to only the search button, probably.

Ok, I guess I'm dense: I've used ICS for a bit on this device with a couple of the international betas. I've also used the ICS launcher from TeamSyndicate or whatever...
Please lmk what is so groundbreaking and so different in the way ICS handles taskswitching..
If I remember correctly (and I easily might NOT be remembering this right), all ICS does is present your recent apps in a nicer, larger, vertical list after pressing the button for it once instead of the way Gingerbread handles it (presenting them in a grid after long-pressing home).
If there's more to it, please let me know.
If there's not, then you basically started a thread that's complaining about the fact that you have to long-press a button right now, and that you really can't wait until you only have to simply press a button, because that would make your life so much easier.
Did I miss something?

task switching is awesome in Ics
It sucks on Gingerbread
It's the ability to have 20+ apps running at a time and switching between then in a heart beat

John, I can't for the life of me figure out any difference (besides looks) between the Gingerbread version of it and the ICS version:
it's just aesthetics, IMHO.

Yup pretty much. Also there arr settting. In launchers that can enable. Up to 16apps or something to be listed in that menu. Same thing, just a few more appz and it looks slightly different. How ever ICS does ring lots of new things in a ALL IN ONE download that plays nicelu with each other. Before you would have to flash several things and spe. D some serious time changing settings to get what ICS already offers which in its self is awesome. Especially for people who have a line and cant always takr the time to flash tons of things and config the more mods everytime a rom requires you to wipe data which gets old really damn quick in my book. Maybe im just getting older or i have owned android too long but i dont like re setting my phone back up. I didnt use to mind it and now i dread it. Atleast even when switxhing between different roms on samsung for the most part you never need to wipe data. In that respect compared to HTC i find Samsung much better and that makes the device worth it right there. With HTC you would loose everything all the time when flashing new roms or even updates. Not to mention you would loose things like your WiMax key's and have to get a nee device just to use Sprints ****ty 4g agan.... Hahaa ok ok its not that funny, more sad about HTC but laughing is how i cope with terrible old memoryz

Just a better way of previewing running apps. (Currently only shows recent apps) Also, you should be able to close individual running apps by swiping left/right. Either than that, nothing really new

For the most part I understand what you're trying to say but there is a good bit that makes absolutely no sense because you're either not using english words or using the wrong english words.

Im so dyslexic i had to fly to a neigboring island every single day to go to a school to specially for dyslexic kids. I cant help it. I do spell check but i dont see words the same as normal people. You guys are dumb and mean. I even tried using auto correct on my Swift X keyboard but i often spell words so off it outs in some completely different word than i want so it ended up being harder to read than if i dont use it. You shouldnt judge people when you dont know whag personal challanges they have or whats going on with them. Just ignore me instead of insulting me. Im very proud of the challanges i have over come to the extent i have over come them. I have accomplished several things that teachers said i wouldnt be able to do. Things like reading and writing well enough to get through the basics of life. I have learned to build custom desktop computers, started my own VHS to DVD converting company and am a semi pro downhill and free style mountain biker. XDA is full of dicks that say things on here they would never say to some ones face. Get a life and treat people with the respect and love that you would like people to treat you. Then again you may not have much self respect or dignity by your actions of how you treat others.

Why is it that all of these types of things are always categorized as ICS issues when the majority of us dont suffer from often if at all...?
Just make a checklist of consistent variables....
You
Your phone
Your settings
An operaring system succesfully applied to most of the world made by top-notch developers then supplemented by equally great devs that just always happens to brake for you =p

I've had this on both stock and AOSP. I know my way around rooms and completely wipe before every flash even. its been happening to me since the early FF** kernel based builds. Frankly I think Samsung could have worked longer on this but something tells me it was rushed at the end.

Ive just been lucky I guess.. Ive got a big lib folder I carry around with me...
Any little problem Ive gotten has been easily remedied, and Ive never once had the weird problems that some get no matter what.
Maybe because mine was assembled in the states? Idk...
I do know that Placebo, placebo you want.. Worst case the flash doesnt take and you have to flash a backuo...
Most likely youll say, "this is a stock kernel?!"

Sorry to say this but I'm running my super nova rom and haven't had any problems what so ever. Nothing looked what you're describing at all. Any chance the phone is having a hardware factory issue since so many others have experienced the same thing?
No its definitely an ICS issue on certain devices. As it doesn't happen on Gingerbread roms based at all. Ive noticed certain users complain about the issue, maybe its different hardware models? Ill wait a bit to see what the developers cook up.... I'll give your super Nova ROM a try.. once all that fails I'll go get a device exchange LOL

Who said anything about insurance? I'm very good friends with the store manager. He always performs a device exchange as long as it hasnt had water damage. And no, I'm pretty sure the issues I'm having are real as pressing the power button and having the unlock screen process done but captive buttons not work for 5 seconds or more, isn't a bad flash. Even on shubs one click to FF18.
Btw check list done.... settings are always left stock. Phone seems okay unless I can surgicly open it to check on internals lol... ! Yes I'm okay myself.other than my messed up fist from a drunk fist fight.
I've had the same issue with most ICS E4GT roms, and doubt it is anything user related. Don't pay attention to the trolls. I've fully wiped my phone and it made no difference. Hopefully someone can figure it out. It's pretty annoying having to turn the screen on a off twice to get the capacitive buttons working.

You can if you use the latest agat kernel built from source but remember not all developers have built in the new safe kernel! So you would always have to odin the kernel if it isnt baked with the ROM.
For reference, here is the link to source built kernel.

Ok heres my input. I believe that its a combination of software and hardware. Remember response time of soft buttons depends on how stable the rom is and also whats running at the time they where pressed. Ok say like you have a few apps it the background running and you turn off your screen. Once the screen come on the buttons may take a second to come on because the screen has more of a priorty than the soft button. Its all in how you look at it. And with apps running it slows that process down greatly because a combination of the proccesor and ram being used. Remember not notice but our soft buttons have a back light and they are press sensitive. So with them working together plus all the other stuff i explained timing would be off. But think about it. Lol is it really a depressing ordeal lol. I actually witness it and continue on without even thinking about it. Sorry for rambling lol
