reading nandroid backups

is there an app or way to read the info from a nandroid backup to know which rom and kernel its using without flashing it first.
i have several, and have long forgotten which rom/kernel they were.
so i would like to be able to load them in some program and see what they are.
can this be done?

just back up existing one rename it to something
then restore the others to check them and rename/delete them
then when done nandroid back to current one
there isn't really a way to check them without doing that
Same here. After I make the nandroid backup, I rename it to whatever ROM it is.
yeah well i did that a few times then got away from it.
and now am stuck with some backups i would rather not flash,, then rename, then flash back to what i was on.
the android emulator might, i just dont know how to load them, guess i will maybe have to check with one of the dev's.
and just to clarify what these guys are saying, for those who don't know... they are renaming the folder that the backup files are in. //sdcard/nandroid/xxxxxxxx/ gets renamed to //sdcard/nandroid/9.4.10_stock_root_2.2/ or whatever your rom is called.
you do not, and never should rename the files in the backup folder.

backup with RA restore with RA, backup with clockwork, restore with clockwork. They're not interchangable, and may not recognize each others backups.
Correct, but I should still be able to see the files in my memory card right? Because in nandroid folder I just see only one file..
I'm lovin' it!
What are you looking for the folders with? You may not be able to see the ra backups with clockwork, but if you use astro (or something similar) and look in the nandroid folder on the sdcard you should see a folder. Inside that folder are other folders with dates and times as the folder names. Each of those subfolders are ra backups.

Clockwork stores Nandroid backups in /sdcard/clockworkmod
Amon_RA stores Nandroid backups in /sdcard/nandroid
You can not restore a clockwork backup with Amon_RA. Or the other way.
Amon_RA wont recognize clockworks Nandroids.
Hopefully that answers your question.
Thank you very much everybody.. I was actually looking for clockwork backups in sdcard/nandroids thats why I couldn't see it.. Now I do see backups in clockwork folder.. My question is answered.. Thanks again everybody..
I'm lovin' it!
related question here:
are nandroid backups interchangable between devices(same model dif device: like two evos)?
example: can i AmonRa nandroid an Evo and then restore the other evo with that same nandroid? pretty much like trying to clone a device.

im not 100% sure but i think it should work, you can nand back the other device, then backup your memory card on your computer and transfer the backup file from your evo and give it a try, if it doesnt work for some reason then just copy files back from your computer,,

[Q] Back up .Zip files

Easy question. Do I need to keep the original zip files on my phone in order for my backup/restore (s) to work correctly, or can I always restore my ROM's without the orginal files? Just looking to save space, I have 3 great ROM's now, Codename Droid, Gummy Nex & FoxHound. I change em up often.
If you are talking about the original install files you can delete them if you already have an nandroid of the ROM.
the .zip is just the installer. Once you have a backup made you will be able to restore that just fine.

cwm back up file date

hi everyone,
been wondering about the previous backups i was making recently. Before I was backing up my file the file had an updated file date (ex. 2012-1-26.13.09.32). But now, when i make a backup the file is dated 1980-1-06... and so on. has anyone encountered this problem? if i make a backup now and the file date turns like this and try to restore it, will it still be the same files i backed up? im using cwm 5.0.2.0. any help or suggestion would be appreciated.
thanks and regards.

No. Just don't put spaces in the name.
