There is no best modem. You will need to test and see which works best for you.
After typing "root" in the android market is the 4483 results
for example b. ... market, cwm, droidwall, mobile odin, set cpu, live logcat, screanshot
You can get Titanium Backup (paid version, trust me.. it's worth it) and freeze many useless battery draining apps that come with the phone.
As for modem, ek02 seems best out of the current ones. I've tried all of them.

That's more dependent on kernel than modem, and I haven't had any LoS since the ek02 kernel, which was released a while ago.

I feel the same way. The stock ICS seems to be a lot faster than the MCR's at the moment - not sure why.
The only reason to root is to get things such as Ad Free, Full Backups, Underclock CPU when screen off, Apply Paul's UI tweaks.
Obviously things will grow in the future. If you do it now, then you dont risk the chance of losing the ability to in the future (doubtful that will ever happen with a Nexus)

The big ones for me are AdFree and Titanium Backup.

This is the first Android OS where it seem so much useable and stable, that I see no use to root. This coming from a primarily IOS guy. I hope I don't have to root.

Is it possible to connect a PS3 controller and play games with current devices today? If yes, could you point me to the application
I will only root if a kernel with ridiculous battery life surfaces. Otherwise this may be the first Android phone I really see no reason rooting. Strange thought.

AdFree is pretty silly IMO. Blocking connections using the host file? Really? I guess the creators don't know what a firewall is or how to use iptables.
I keep reading about this modem thing but what exactly is it? And do I need it?
Its the radio firmware for the phone, and yes you will need it if you want your phone to function properly.
it's found between mode L and mode N
kidding aside, it's the actual part of the phone that makes it a phone.. without it, you have the sprint epic touch galaxy s 2 doorstop (well, android would still work, but no calls/texts... it'd basically bad a 4.5" tablet)

Various reasons..
-To try and fix issues
-To return to stock
-Because they just have to be on the latest (but not always best) revision
I would love to hear feedback about which modem people feel is giving the best performance. My signal seems the most consistent on EL13

Hey crew, I found this awesome video comparing Ek02 and EL13
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UWS2qr9GMMM
I like the hardware but this loss of service thing is annoying.
Has anyone determined if this is a software issue? Sprints network isnt great but my evo 3d fares much better.
Ive read around on the internet and I THOUGHT I read a post that mentioned a user reverting to EG30 which solved his/her problem. Only thing that isnt positive is whether the user reverted to software EG30 or baseband EG30.
Any insight into this issue, how to revert to an earlier software version? Ive tried various radios but not software. I appreciate your time.
I'm having same problem....my evo 3d had no problem with Los but my e4gt is terrible where I live.....I was told to try different modems but I tried FCO7 AND FC14 still the same.

Hmm, what do you mean by "loss of service"?
This is a term used specifically to describe losing service while the phone says it has service...

Ok, maybe that is incorrect.
Just using it, for example sending a tweet or an email, one may send immediately. Then if I choose to refresh or send a second tweet/email right after, the transmission arrows dont light up for a while. Its like the radio is going to sleep way too fast and it takes even longer to wake up and complete the transaction. Enabling/disabling fast dormancy doesnt seem to make a difference.
Edit: under these conditions, I never get the "no signal" icon. Just seems the radio is sleepy
Well I asked around because my signal sucks but I called sprint and they said my area has really good service.....but people told me to try FCO4 and FC14 and FCO7 that might help so I did......nothing helped.
I just looked it says I'm using el29 on my kernal and FCO7 under baseband.......not sure if that helps, ill try to find out more and if it helps ill let you know

I've been around for a bit from the tmo dash to the touch pro to the evo and soon to the epic touch. I have a few questions which i hope some of.you can help me with. Does this have the same weak radios and horrible battery of the ns4g? And what's with all these build numbers fh this and that? What would changing the modem do? Is cwm still the most popular recovery? And finally, it has ics on it so will I be able to root?
I have been trying to read but I'm getting confused. I was able to only update the radios, rom and kernel now there are all these options.
Thanks in advance for any useful info

I got this from a friend who is getting an iPhone. He just had his S2 replaced like a month ago so I get a new phone for cheap. Im holding out my upgrade for a quadcore phone. I refuse to go with the LG only because I dont think the developer or factory support will be there. This should make my wait more bearable with my huge leap from NS4g.
I have jelly bean right now with everything working ok (except the massive battery drain) on my NS4G. Anything close to that on this phone? How is the developer support? Im coming from a phone with ok support and maybe like 3 choices that are updated consistantly.
Yes all modems are compatible with any rom and we have cm10 and aokp versions of jellybean. The brick issues are much much less now that we developers have identified the problem and made safe recoveries. Don't flash anything in stock recovery.
I was wondering if anyone has had any problems with Facebook and trying to post something on there page. I was able to comment on someone else post but now I can not I have tried to uninstalling Facebook and reinstalling it but its still the say. I am also having problems with my GPS,and with my screen getting stuck with the image being real lite and faded then I would have to take out battery to restart it. Also my battery has been getting real hot sometimes that I will have to take it out let it cool down for a few mins then restart it this happen a few times a day..
