[solved]Touch bug while charging? - Samsung Epic 4G Touch

Hello everyone, I just bought my epic 4g touch today and Ive noticed that the screen becomes very slow and buggy while I am charging. I am still on 2.3.4 stock rom with updates available. Does anyone know if this bug is resolved in the update?

Thanks for the quick reply, I just updated and its running smooth like silk. Puts my old Zio from cricket to shame... Now I have a phone!

It worked fine pre EK02 for me. I had the issue the first time I tried it and thought it was the outlet. Never happened again. Read here some people said the cord was the fault but since Ive used it and all my others just fine not sure.

My Evo used to do it when I run CyanogenMod, never did it on Sense ROMs.
My E4GT used to do it on the Samsung charger that came with it, which is why I always used my HTC charger. Doesn't seem to do it now that I'm on EL29, on either charger.

Epic Hot and Unresponsive

Today my Epic started getting really hot while charging and using wifi, the battery temp hit 43C. Now when I'm using wifi, my phone keeps getting hot even when not charging, and the screen becomes unresponsive.
I was running Viper Rom 4.0.3 EXT4, so I decided to try and flash a new rom. Just flashed the Bonsai 2.1 EXT4 and its doing the same thing.
Think its time to Odin back to DI18 and take it to Sprint?
Something with cable perhaps I would suggest take the batt out cool a little and try again I had problem with mine started like that a month latter exchanged for new one

Not going to help, but when I read this I was thinking this is how I like my woman! But the unresponsive mayb not so much!

I need some advice from the geeks.

I just bought the epic 4g touch and I love the screen and software of this phone but I have again the problems with the signal and I am losing the signal at all, I have to reboot the phone to fix it. I am coming from the Samsung moment and nexus s 4g with the same problems. My question is everybody having the same issue and do you recommend to switch to the mopho (the Motorola phonton)?
Any help with my decision will be appreciate.

I would take the phone back. I assume there is a bad batch of phones out there because there are a lot who do not have this issue. The photon is a great phone just not as great as this one. That's my opinion and I have had every phone that has come out on sprint within the last year.

No problems here. I had 4 LOS so far. 2 stock and 2 with rooted kernel. Flashed back to stock, no problems since.
I've owned both a Moment and NS4G and didn't have any chronic LOS problems. Not the strongest signals, but, The actual performance was always fine.. Except for the Moment and data lockups.... But that is a whole other story.

No issues with signal here. Had the phone since launch day.
Take it back and exchange it for another Epic 4g Touch.
I went to the store and they said that bc is known issue I have to wait for a update and if I want to exchange for other phone I have to pay return fee.
I have other problem, when my phone goes to roaming the 3g disappear and change all the settings and nothing. No data when I am roaming.

Anyway to convert mtd to bml without odin

Trying to get back to stock before taking my epic in to sprint. Here's what's up.
I got a refurbished epic 4g when my screen cracked. It worked well at first flashed over to cm9 and atarashi kernel. Since then my usb port started acting up sometimes it thinks its charging constantly other times never says it charging. Booting into download mode and plugging in to the computer it doesn't connect. And yes I am using a non stock cable (blackberry cable).
I've also tried to restore to a backup in case it was the new kernel version still doesn't work.

Once mtd the only way to get back is with odin... gonna have to keep playing with it and hope you can get it to connect....

Try reinstalling your drivers, use different ports, and different cables. I had to do the same thing yesterday when my screen had water damage. They probably wont notice if you take it in and i think they wipe anyway, but keep trying to odin just in case. Maybe try heimdall too.

Flash the eco5 rerfs rom and it will make you semi-soft bricked and then they won't be able to get to recovery or anything and they will end up fixing the usb and reflashing stock and when they ask you stuff just play dumb

If you can't get it working flash the FC09 stock deodexed MTD ROM here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1580931
There are instructions at the bottom of the OP to make it look stock enough to fool most Sprint techs. Marcusant has a kernel for it that has the stock numbers in the version that shows up on settings. PM him or me if you need that.
Alright I'll try that hopefully they don't notice. If they do well hopefully they don't say anything cause its a hardware issue obviously. Just a poorly refurbished phone.

It's your best chance on MTD.

Unfortunately bml is not open source, which makes a cwm conversion back to it impossible or hard enough that its not in the best interest of our developers to do.

kris, most likely you have a dirty usb port, take a qtip, dip it into alcohol and gently clean the port and then use a hair dryer for a few secs and then give it a try.
Let me know if you fool the sprint employee.
I am in the exact same boat right now.

I don't think they'd notice. They either don't know or don't care and if the service center is in the back, they probably won't even look at it before they reset.

Might trade my iphone 4 for this phone.

Does it still have the crappy signal/gps issues? I had it earlier this year and it was frustrating, so just want to see how things have been since then with all the updates and such....
gps sucks. it takes a long time to connect. and i have this issue where the phone fails to connect to 3g when 4g disconnects. super annoying.
get the sgs3 or evo 4g lte.
Umm no. My phone does not have those problems. Running aokp stable 4 with fh13 modem

I don't have GPS problems, but the battery life has been pretty bad with the new ics update. It's no where near the life of gb.

too many variables to give you a answer lol.. ive hardly ever had any of ur issues but depends on the rom, kernel, modem, your area, and then some.. one thing im sure on is this phone beats any iphone in every way

Keep the iPhone, easier to sell and retains value. And then buy GS3

You guys are all saying its works fine and like a million other people are complaining when I googled it lol. I'm just bored with my iphone 4 and my sister took my evo 3d, So I need something to get my android fix with lol.... no upgrade til december.
Having played with a galaxy s3 in the mall, I'd say go with that. Read that section in the forum to see what issues there are. After going from a 4s to the e4gt, I miss the 4s camera and the better quality sounding audio output. I've had this one for nine months now and the screen burn in is getting on my nerves. Going to pen tile displays was samsung's choice for screen lasting longer and less apt to burning. I didn't notice a screen door effect on the s3 either. Even though the cameras are virtually the same, I can see how having a faster focus helps in certain situations with the s3. Its low light is noisy though like lots have mentioned.

Its the way things goes on in consumer world. More noise is created by people who's stuff is not working. I work for verizon fios and we only hear 5 to 10% customers call in to complain but some might come to wrong conclusion that fios always breaks. Thats how it is. I have had no issues with my e4gt. Love everything about it.

When this issue happened to me, I took my phone into the Sprint store and they tested and found that the battery was bad. I had tried the phone of a couple of different car chargers before that and I received that same message on all of them.

Thanks for the input. Not sure if its the battery. Use my normal charger at home. No problems there. When i use my charger then i get that. ****ing weird

Universal car chargers are very bad for batteries. You always want to charge your phone more on the original charger. Only use a car charger when it is absolutely necessary to charge your phone.

Sprint will tell you it is a bad battery in order to keep from exchanging your device, this is the beginning part of the usb port starting to fail...I had this, I checked everywhere and then eventually the port gave in and went bad. Sprint exchanged my device.

Thanks guys. Yeah very weird. Never had a problem before but now even when i switch back to gb same result. So this could be a sign of usb port failure? Good thing my upgrades in march. fingers crossed i also land my job at sprint but **** man just to get hired what a process its been two weeks. Hopefully when i work there maybe i can put in my two cents that would actually be benefical to the devs.

Had this same issue yesterday after flashing FI27. Started with "voltage too high" eventually wouldnt charge at all. Luckily i have a repair center a mile ftom home.
Dropped off the phone and the rep seemed to be quite familiar with the problem. She said its been fairly common recently. They ordered me a new phone for Thur. Im pretty happy cause this assurion refurb has been locking up and running super hot since I got it.

Did you have to pay the $100 or whatever the cost of the deductible is?
Ever since I flashed agats 0.6.2 kernel my battery icon blinks. An even after unplugging the phone it still says its charging. Even if I take the battery out for hours today and put it back in it says charging on the lock screen and if I try to turn on adb it says please unplug usb cord. And the other weird thing is soon as I put the battery in it boots up with out holding the power button.

Thanks bro. Hoping it is just the battery and not my usb port going bad.
Sent from my SPH-D710 using xda app-developers app
If it's the same problem, I think it has to do with the charging circuits. My battery charged fine on an external charger. In fact at the Sprint store the were going to give me the old battery in my new refurb. Told them I didn't want it if there was a possibility the voltage protection was going bad, might have shortened its life.
