[TUTORIAL][CYANOGENMOD7.x][LINK2SD][UPGRADING NIGHTLIES] - HTC Wildfire S

I've had success with manually wiping the system only Dalvik files via root explorer but this method is fast and tried and true.
There are many ways to do things but this works.
1/ NANDROID BACKUP TO GET BACK TO WHERE YOU WERE IF YOU HAVE TO
2/ Titanium backup of all apps/data and system data
4/ Backup Titanium backup, ES File Explorer and LINK2SD apk's to SD card (Always have them there anyways!) using ES File Explorer
3/ Full wipe and install of new nightly and gapps
4/ Use CM7 File Explorer to reinstall TB, ES File, and LINK2SD
5/ Run Link2SD and relink SD Ext
6/ Turn on autolinking in settings
7/ Reboot
8/ Full titanium restore (files will auto relink to SD Ext with autolink on)
9/ Mass unlink the files you want on the Internal memory
10/ Redo your widgets on desktop
All your settings including WiFi, Google accounts, apps settings and data, System and Cyanogenmod settings will be retained.
Like I said. Pretty much all you have to redo is widgets.

For ANYBODY that gets the "Error 921" when downloading something from Play Store

For ANYBODY that gets the "Error 921" when downloading something from Play Store
1. Backup all of your apps and what-not using Titanium Backup. (If you don't have PRO, your restoration process will take much, much longer)
2. Delete backups for Google Play Store AND Google Services Framework.
3. Using a root explorer (ES File Explorer is fine), navigate to your root directory, then /Data/App and copy (both if you have PRO) Titanium Backup .apk files onto your SD Card. This will save you the trouble of downloading it again later.
4. Making sure you have a flashable ROM .zip and a flashable GApps .zip on your SD card, reboot the phone into recovery.
5. Do a full wipe. Data, Cache, and Dalvik Cache.
6. Reinstall your ROM. Reinstall GApps. Reboot into system.
7. Locate the .apk file(s) you copied earlier and install them.
8. Open Titanium Backup and restore all of your apps and system data. If you did not follow step 2, all of your work has been in vain and you must repeat the process again.
Hope this helps somebody.

My free personal way of switching roms..

Hi there,
Just wanted to show how I switch ROMs using free apps. I am not responsible for any data loss. This is just my method and it is nothing new for many.
My focus is to backup Launcher settings, sms and contacts and apps+ their data.
I use these programs:
Es File explorer
Efficient backup
Appextrator( alternative 2)
Backdrop (alternative 3)
Superbackup (just in case)
Let's start.
My main method. First rule. Always do a nandroid backup before you install a new rom.
Then:
1) Backup Apps+data using Efficient backup. I don't backup system apps to avoid strange errors.
2) sms and contacts. copy in sdcard the folders /data/providers/contacts and /data/providers/telephony. Also export contacts as vcf file just in case.
3) install new rom. Install es file manager and Efficient backup. Restore apps+data using Efficient Backup.
4) Copy from previous backup in sdcard, the contacts and sms using Es file manager in this way:
copy all files from /sdcard/ data/providers/contacts/databases
To
/data/providers/contacts/databases and confirm.
Plus copy all files from /sdcard/data/providers/telephony/databases
To
/data/providers/telephony/databases and confirm.
Then reboot.
As launcher I use Apex and its backup feature.
To be continued...
You could just use MyBackup Root and do all of the above (minus the launcher settings.)
TiBu and Google Sync FTW!

Where is Clockworkmod backup located?

I have latest CWM recovery (non-touch) installed using ROM Manager. I am on CM 10.1 (4.2.2) RC1 ROM.
I just did a backup yesterday. Here is how I backed up: Recovery => Backup & Restore => Backup
Today I am unable to locate it using ES File Explorer. Strange thing is that I am able to restore that backup when I go to "Recovery => Backup & Restore => Restore" I see my backup is located at /sdcard/clockworkmod/backups and I am able to successfully restore.
However as I said in es file explorer there is no clockworkmod directory on /sdcard
A little bit of digging and I see that /sdcard links to /emulated/legacy. I checked /0 and /legacy folders and searched everywhere and still cannot find the backup.
Any thoughts?
Note: Backup to external is fine. I can see my backups. I am just curious of the location of my backup on internal sdcard.

[Q] Can not restore from Titanium Backup or Write in folders

I decided to wipe my device completely and restore from nandroid backup. All went fine, but after trying to use Titanium Backup I realized it could not access the folder. I checked with ES explorer, the folder was there, I tried within TB preferences to change the folder and realized I had Read only privileges, I can not create a folder or download to a folder (or move any folders).
I vaguely remember this happening when I originally flashed the ROM and found a Terminal Emulator script that fixed the problem.
Any ideas how to gain Read and Write privileges (not sure what to call it). I can not save to SD or External SD.
Can someone point me to the Terminal Emulator script or ADB?
SOLVED: Just installed skyhigh kernel and it fixed everything. I'd delete this thread, but don't know how to

marshmallow rom & Titanium backup SD card

In trying to get titanium backup to save to the SD card I see marshmallow has no WRITE_EXTERNAL_STORAGE to modify with an SD fix app. I found this on other forums here...
Use es explorer & create a folder on your SD card for the backup.
Go into titanium backup, preferences , backup folder location.
Above the detect button you see storage provider, touch that.
Select DocumentProvider storage
Select the SD card from the open from menu
Then select the folder you created first and touch USE THE CURRENT FOLDER
restart backup, double check the folder is still there & you're all set.
Hope this helps
Good find...nice and easy.
