I have a evo 4g on verizon and I have backed up all info in qpst and used qxdm to get ha secret and aaa secret both 32 digits long. Was wanting to know if I flash a custom rom would I loose carrier settings? Also i believe I would loose the ability to use epst, to get in diag mode to restore settings in qpst if custom rom removed my settings so is there a way or guide that I could follow so that I could maintain my service and not mess anything up or should I leave well enough alone?
Some people have said it can happen but me and a lot of other people have never had a problem. I have my EVO on Boost Mobile and within the last week alone I've flashed like 5 different ROMS and it has never touched any of my settings (Which it shouldn't anyway). Only thing you may need to change is the MMS server settings and as long as you flast a sense ROM you'll have EPST and be able to access all the codes. If you flash an AOSP ROM then yes, you won't have EPST. Hope this helps!
thanks bro bout to give it a shot (fingers crossed)
worked perfectly and fixed my camera also

I flashed the rom using IMCokeMan's cool tool and then installed a bunch of apps.
But then I found that while the device can see the EVDO network, as soon as a program tries to use it, the program stalls and then waits for the phone to revert to using the 1X (GPRS?) method.
Any idea how to troubleshoot this?
Thanks,
RS

what rom did you flash to, was it a custom rom off ppcgeeks, or did you flash with an elf (gsm) rom
the vogue (CDMA) touch uses 1xRTT slower data and EVDO which is the faster (3G) data, not gprs like GSM devices
Used CokeMan Vogue Rom
I just followed these directions:
http://forum.ppcgeeks.com/showthread.php?t=12255&page=2
I have the Sprint Vogue and that rom is supposed to be for Vogue.
I keep trying the "initiate custom nai entry to device" under settings->phone->internet->get settings.
My phone can see the EVDO but cannot use it. It defaults to 1X and drains the hell out of my battery.
It's possible it's a sprint outage in SF, but I don't know.

i would post in the forum for the individual who made the rom (usually they have a thread going on over there at ppcgeeks.com) honestly i dunno why your using a custom rom on the touch there isnt any out with any new features really (yet) if anything they have the OEM rom so you can flash back, otherwise call tech support your device may need to be re-provisioned which would require tech support to assist with
Only 1xrtt fix
This happened to me too. Call sprint tech support and have them do a depro repro on your account. Basically they reset your vision setting on your account and force a OTA provisioning.
Re
Me too noobs in these things and flushed my rom and got in serious trouble and called pc expert and get fixed
Same prob found this
##778 choose edit,to unlock s/b 000000, tap view info, then security make sure the HDR AN AUTH Password is your phones ESN
You just need to update your roaming list. Call support and they will give you a program code to call to update the roaming list. That is all that is wrong.
Cheers.
When I try to save the PPP settings for verizon (they are currently set to: [email protected] and I need to change to [email protected]), the settings continue to revert back to alltel!!! I really need some help with this - why would I be able to change every other setting via QPST except for PPP username and psw? Does anyone know if this has something to do with the registry? Thanks so much!
"I'm not really sure why you are editing these fields in QPST or why you would need to. If you have Verizon, flash with the latest WM6.1 that Verizon released, then flash with this ROM. Once you do *228 and get activated these settings will all be configured automatically."
I did that - I need these settings corrected so that I can access data. I am unable to do so because the settings keep reverting back to [email protected], even after I just changed them! I just now flashed back to the Sprint Stock ROM with radio 3.43 and still is unchanged!
I don't know what to do... I'm really freaking out - I did flash to an alltel ROM in the past, but why aren't the newer ROMS overwriting the old PPP settings???? Is it a radio problem (shouldn't be because I just flashed with Sprint radio ROM)
In any case, no matter what ROM I use, I cannot edit the PPP username and psw - it always reverts back to alltel. Does anyone know what I should do? Thanks!
P.S - I also installed the dcd Verizon Wireless carrier cabs and still no go...
I'm not really sure why you are flashing with all these different ROMS to be quite honest. I'm assuming that when you flash with these ROMS you aren't letting customs run? What ROM are you eventually going to be using? Do you care about being able to enable GPS?
All I care about right now is getting the PPP username and password changed.
It seems as though I cannot access the nvm folder using EFS File Explorer. I am trying to use QXDM, but I have no idea how to use it. Does anyone know what the commands are for changing PPP in QXDM?

Dude...flash with the official Verizon ROM linked below. Let customs run. Once complete dial *228 and choose option #1. Once that is complete you may have to call #8899 to get a new authentication key. Make sure your phone is unlocked with the 2.31 imcokeman unlocker, which I assume it is since you are already flashing away with various ROMs. Once you do this your settings will be fixed. You shouldn't be editing them the way you are trying. REFLASH WITH OFFICIAL VERIZON ROM...nuff said.

This is what I would do as well. What radio on you on. You say 3.43, but there is no 3.43. Check in Device Info in settings.
It souunds like you flashed an altel rom and let custmizations run.
Try flashing the stock rom (from verizon) and let customizations run. Then follow the steps to listed earlier in this thread (think the site was wiki pda) to get aGPS running. I wouldn't call Verizon for an A key until you are done flashing. Then the easy way to repopulate your phone is to go online to verizon my account and activate another phone on your line, then active your 6900. When you do this it automaticlly sends a new A key and don't have to try and explain to tech why you need it done.
Good luck
Okay I am doing that now. You are correct, I did let customizations run...
However, I was able to forcibly edit the NV Items using CDMA Workshop and that seemed to work...until I tried to edit the password with QPST. So I will give it a try and if it still doesn't work, I will just re-write the NV Items everytime I use QPST. Thanks guys.

The sreps I was refering to were in the rom thread, but here is a link.
http://wiki.ppchaven.com/index.php?title=Pocket_PC_WIki:FIX_VERIZON_GPS
I would be very careful changing stuff to verizon already.
I went into the alltel store and they won't even activate a verizon phone yet
because if you have verizon software they will bill you on a different account on verizon (if you're still under an alltel contract), which means that you will be being billed per minute and for data as a pay as you go plan.
she said this is because verizon and alltel billing systems aren't fully integrated yet.
so if you haven't resigned a verizon contract yet, meaning you're still on your original alltel contract, be careful.
Lot of info here.....
i just had a couple of quick questions.
I have a evo 4g flashed to cricket using a ROM which i think is a STOCK rom
My phone was flashed by a friend of a friend, everything works, but i know i can do it myself with the help of this community. I wanted to know IF i decide to install a custom ROM what info will be needed?
IF i do attempt to install a custom ROM are there some files on the phone i need to keep? or i can i just install the rom and it will work, being that my phone has already been modified with QPST and CDMA workshop or will i have to do that part of the config over again.
The main thing i think that kept my phone from working last time was the QPST/CDMA workshop stuff. it seems complicated to me. when you start getting into APN MEID MSN XML PRI PRL Kernel files, i get lost.
Is there somewhere on here that i can get a complete explanation without having to piece it together from hundreds of posts. Ideally i would like to be able to feel confident that i know what im doing.
This community is great and i really appreciate all the time and effort that you guys put into helping us newbies.

You can flash whatever roms you want. Older roms had problems with MMS and Cricket but it seems to be pretty much straightened out now. With any rom you are going to need to configure your APN settings for Cricket in order to get MMS working (as Evo roms are typically intended for Sprint and have Sprint APN settings as such)
WOW, didnt expect you to reply. Thanks. what settings do i need to reconfig, IF i do this myself? will i have to do anything with xml files, qpst, cdma workshop? This is the problem i had last time. I do not really know what needs to be changed once i put a new rom on my phone. Could you provide me with a list of things TODO after the rom is
flashed?
qpst/cdma workshop are where i get scared.
In most all modern Sense roms (the 2.1+3.0 hybrids like MikG for example) you simply need to go into the Messaging app and edit the settings under MMS. Change the size limit to something that is 500K or less (Cricket has a sending limit over 500k it seems) and then edit the connection settings by changing them to the following:
name: internet
mmsc: http://mms.mycricket.com/servlets/mms
mms proxy: wap.mycricket.com
mms port : 8080
mms protocol: wap 2.0
You don't have to import an APN xml file like I used to have to do in 2.2 roms and with Jiminy
I've still never been able to get MMS working under any AOSP roms like CM6 and CM7, even when I do edit the APN settings (my last try was a couple months ago though, so maybe its been sorted since)
so if i flash over a new rom like Jiminy V do i have to re-edit anything through QPST or CDMA workshop? or do i just flash, config MMS stuff and thats it?
No I would advise against flashing Jiminy now honestly, it's old news.
I said Jiminy WOULD require some extra effort like importing an APN xml file
Jiminy is still based on 2.2. I would go ahead and use something like MikG or Synergy at this point.
Regardless of the rom, you don't ever need to do anything with QPST or CDMA workshop. That work is already done and independent of the rom you flash
I guess I've given up maintaining Jiminy at this point. Consider MikG to be the new go to rom if you're on Cricket. It works perfectly once you configure the APN through the messaging app.
Im running a stock rom and its all working, i want to try some diff roms out, but i do not want to break anything.
But i am still unclear if ill have to do anything through QPST or CDMA workshop. Just flash rom over and make some changes to MMS or are there other settings to change?

see, apparently even stock roms work fine now. When I first started making Jiminy a stock Evo rom could not do MMS, it took some trickery. Later stock roms appeared to have cleared this issue up.
you got a good link to the mikG rom? Also how will the new rom know what my phone number and other info is?
I'm looking to do some PRL Swapping, I've done it before on my LG Optimus Elite (using QPST) but not my One V. Can someone tell me how to do a PRL swap on the One V?
the only surefire way i know it can be done is through qpst, using the service programming function. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1162091 (it says for cm7, but same rules apply. ##3424# in the stock rom dialer, you will also need your msl, there are guides on google for that)
now with that said, if you end up needing my help and you break something, i didnt break it lol you did. swapping a prl has about a 1% risk (if that) of permanently messing something up on your phone, but it is quite an annoyance if you dont back up your original prl to go back to in an emergency situation. so keep that in mind.
ah ha i see, i tried doing ##3424# just like my elite but it didn't do anything cause I wasn't in the stock rom. I already have my msl so i should be good go, but i'll just double-check the guide to make sure im not doing it wrong. Thanks!
I'm trying to use my evo on cricket and I just want to walk in and have them flash it over, what I'm really asking is do I need it to be on stock software, and have the stock recovery? Or can I just be on aosp and it doesn't matter for them?
Thanks in advance
Been asked and answered, but you'll need a Sense ROM, stock or otherwise. I did my flashing myself but used QPST. You need a Sense ROM with EPST and Diag for fine tuning and to update prl. Cricket really doesn't care, as long as Sense, but be forewarned, if you have an evo/android, be prepped to pay the Android price.

I had it flashed correctly but now im wondering if i can flash a cricket rom for the evo now that is not sense, or if it will wipe what they did at the cricket store.....like this rom for example: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2124527
thanks in advance
Make a copy of your current APN settings using APN backup and restore from the market and then make a nandroid backup of your entire current setup before you move on. Just in case. It should work, but I can't confirm APN and Data are fully functional without an app like greenk45, since when I did run that on my phone, I didn't have MMS or Data.

thanks for the info, it has been helpful...ill try soon....so am i free to flash any sense based ROM or does it have to be cricket based to work properly, i had them flash it while it was on digitalKarma, and everything works properly now
Most any ROM should work fine, but there are a few that may bring issues. Mms is a minor issue across the board. Just so long as you keep a backup of DK so you always have that to fall back on.
Hey I use cricket and have flashed several og evo's and evo 3d's. You can run any rom that is out. These so called cricket roms if you can find one with a working link are really no different than any other rom. You can have full data and mms on any rom you want to use from froyo all the way up to jellybean 4.2.2. The thing is you have to know what needs to be changed. I have never had to do anything to get data working it always works but mms is a little bit of a different story. I have never used this greenk45 or even heard of it until now. I would say that out of all the roms on this forum and a couple others I have flashed and used all but maybe five. Each version of android seems to need slightly different changes to make your mms work but I have been able to do it with all the roms. If you want you can pm me and I will be more than willing to give you any help you need. Heck maybe one of these day I will get off my lazy butt and do a complete guide to flashing roms cricket style. Until then I am always willing to help out anyone willing to ask for the help.
Yeah. Sorry, greenk45 is a proxy hack for some cricket users. It is what I had to use when I had data. But then again, I was on a $25 plan. On the note2, I had cricket flash it, so it's different now.
