Since there are many newbies here who are new to the world of flashing I've decided to do them all a huge favor by posting this thread. If there are other tutorials around, I'd suggest the mods sticky them please. I'm going to make this one as user friendly and easy as possible.
Okay. So you're bored of the stock HTC ROM eh? Never fear, the XDA cooks are here
If you are using an XP machine, you are good to go. If you are using Windows Vista or Windows 7, then go to this page and follow the instructions here to roll back the drivers. THIS IS IMPORTANT IF YOU'RE ON VISTA OR 7 BECAUSE OTHERWISE YOUR PHONE WON'T CONNECT IN BOOTLOADER!
Also, take note that while doing ANY kind of flashing, always remove both your SD card and your SIM card. ALWAYS.
Firstly, you will have to CID unlock your phone. Download the USPL and follow the instructions to flash it onto your phone. What, still need instructions? Okay.
Unzip it.
Connect your phone (WHILE IT IS RUNNING, NOT IN BOOTLOADER)
Click start_uspl.exe
Wait till the process finishes.
The phone will automatically reboot. During boot up, you will see a few numbers on your white HTC screen. Look out for the SPL number. If it is 1.11.0000, then you have been successful in unlocking your phone. If not, well, you have to try again. Mostly it should happen in the first go.
Now. Once your phone is CID unlocked, you can download any ROM you want and flash it to your device. Lets say you are kind to me and download one of my ROMs (see my sig )
*Before you flash any ROM though I strongly suggest you update your USPL to the new cmon USPL. This improvement lets you flash ROMs of ANY size to your device. To flash this, just download the file, and replace the ruu_signed.nbh file located in any of my (or anyone else's) ROM package with the one included in cmon USPL.
Then, put your phone into bootloader mode. To do this, switch your phone off. Then press the voice recording, power and reset buttons together. After 5 seconds release the reset button, but keep the other two pressed till you see a three colored screen. Once you see the screen you are in bootloader mode.
Once in bootloader, connect the phone to the PC. Once it is connected run the RUU.exe located in the folder where you just put the cmon USPL .nbh file. Keep pressing next and finally press update. It will be done in 2 seconds. On next boot your SPL version will now say 1.11.cmon. Yay, success.
Now you are ready to flash any ROM of your choice. Download whichever ROM you want, and unzip the package into a folder. The package will have around 6 files. Of them, only RUU.exe and ruu_signed.nbh are important. Once you check for these files, put your phone in bootloader mode again, connect to PC and start RUU.exe. Like cmon USPL, keep pressing next and then update. Soon, you will have a progress bar on your phone as well as your computer screen. The flashing process will be complete in 10 minutes.
The phone will reboot once the flashing is done. Now you can kiss old stock ROM goodbye! On system reboot, the phone will take some time to start, and it will ask you to "tap screen to begin setup". Do as the phone tells you to, align the screen, enter the date and time and your new flashed ROM is ready to use!
I hope this post helps all the newbies out there in flashing their devices. Be warned, you have to be careful while doing this or your device might end up as a very attractive brick. It is very easy and I'm sure all you people can manage it.
Special thanks to:
pof and cmonex for their USPLs
All the brilliant cooks of Artemis XDA
*If I made any mistake in this the experienced people can bring it to my notice and I will make changes. Everything is correct best to my knowledge
Did you mention remove memory card? Also Vista users need to change USB drivers !
Yes, thanks bazzywazz I missed out on thos epoints. First post edited
And on phone usb settings uncheck "enable advanced network function"
Hi,
I was thinking that maybe the good things of WM6.1 and WM6.5.1 could be put in one rom.
Because I like the startbutton and the close button at the bottom from 6.5.1, but I liked the quickmenu from from 6.1.
I also want the quickmenu of task manager back, so you can open it any time without having to go to the startmenu again.
So I was thinking to put the quickmenu from start and task manager together and make it open by pushing the start button at the bottom, just like with normal windows (see pictures).
To make the rom go fast and without having all kinds of programs that you don't even use, I would like to have only these programs/settings cooked:
- Enable internet and bluetooth
- The option to really close a program by pressing the X-button
- Long press end-key
- All standard settings
- An internet browser (don't care which one)
- Office mobile
- Notes
- Pictures and Video's
- Tasks
- Camera
So NO extra keyboard, windows media player (got my own music player), ram cleaner, lock, navigation, etc.
Another very important thing is: I don't want the 6.5 layout as home screen and no touchflow, just the Today screen.
I think that will be possible, because a friend of mine got an old htc and also only the Today screen.
I'm not able to make my own rom, but I'm sure there are a lot of people that know how to do it.
Could anyone make me this rom, please?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=583606
this is what u want i think, no touchflow no titanium home.
otherwise theres few clean ROMs available that are pretty good with titanium.
looking at ur attachments... just 2 words..... yuk yuk lol
Thanks for the replay, I'm gonna try the rom.
But how do I instal a .nbh file?
pls search forum for flashing from internal storage.
oh well...
1: copy the ROM in internal storage, rename the file to diamimg.nbh
2: press vol down + back key + press reset with stylus [keep it press untill screen changes to boot loader 3 color screen]
3: press power button to start flash.
4: after completion again soft reset.
5: u can do hard reset now if u like.
u can do MTTY first if u want and then do all the steps from 1 - 4
u can also use custom RUU as well.
u better be HARD SPL'ed or i take no responsibility.
Thanks so much, I'm flashing now...
Is hard reset necessary?
Ehm, nothing happened.
I've still got my old rom...
pls search forum for ur answer, u apparently a newbie and its better to be safe buddy.
1: u should have HARD SPL before flashing custom ROM
2: u sure u renamed file to diamimg in root of internal storage.
3: does it shows successful at the end.
4: try with RUU

I am indeed a newbie, but...
1: I've installed HARD SPL
2: I renamed it diamimg and if you mean with "in root of internal storage" just in internal storage (not in subfolders) then, yes I did that.
3: It showed successful at the end
4: I'm gonna try with RUU then What exactly is RUU? Or do you mean rename it again?
Thanks for all the information .
RUU is a custom windows flasher that u use to flash using windows.
another idea since u got the success prompt is it possible that by mistake u flashed ur old ROM.
Hello all,
I'm trying to remove the bootsound for my Desire and so followed the instructions in thread 675580, page 3 (can't post direct URL because I'm a new user)
I replied there saying it does not work but after rereading carefully, I think it's because I tried the command while not being in recovery mode.
I then went around and read a few threads to figure out how to enter this mode. I thus followed the instructions in thread 6710092, reply number 4 in the part about "How to flash ROM".
I can get up to step 6 just fine. I even have the black screen with red triangle showing up. I then try the next step, that is running "recovery-windows.bat"
Unfortunately, adb-nilezon says it did not find any device and so errors out in the three steps inside the batch file.
The only option that I was able to find to get back the phone in a workable state was to remove the battery.
I noticed a behavior of the phone that is not mentioned in the above thread, so maybe I did not do something right.
In Step 5, right after I plug the desire to the PC, Windows says it has found a new device and complains it could not find the driver. I tried to have it search for drivers, but it could not find anything and thus aborted the install.
Along with this, in step 6, right after I press the power button to select Recovery, the phone seems to "reboot" as it shows the white HTC boot screen and it vibrates.
Is it possible that I am missing a part of the correct install?
I read all replies to the mentioned tutorial thread, some users have the same problem so I created a Gold card, which I believe I did right. But this did not change my situation.
When not in recovery mode, I'm able to use USB Debugging to connect to the phone and send my test applications via adb just fine.
Many thanks for your time and patience

Not sure if you do or not but do you need to have Htc Sync installed for the drivers?
I do have HTC Sync installed
Are you rooted? You need root to do this. If you are then why not use fake flash or unrevoked to enter recovery.
No I'm not, but the message in thread 675580 says there is no need for it, hence my tries here.
I'd rather not root my device if I don't have to, for the time being that is.

Recovery-windows.bat won't work unless you are rooted. The screen with the red triangle isn't actually recovery mode. The .bat file you would run pushes the recovery to the phone.
If you are not going to root, then you can get an app from the market that puts your phone on silent as you switch it off, and then back to normal when it's booted. This disables the boot sound. It's called silent boot I think.
Well then, I'm missing something from the other thread (675580) as I can't get the command to work.
I'll wait over here for any comments.
Thanks

Fake flash needs root. No custom recovery will work without root. Quite simply, if you are not rooted you will not have write access to /system

I am writing this because I couldn't seem to find a guide to solve my issue of my Galaxy Nexus being completely bricked. It was literally dead, or so I thought. The first part of this guide will tell you how to recover from the following situation:
Before we begin, here are the names of the programs and files used:
Odin3
Android ADK
CF-Root-GGN_YAKJU_ICL53F-v5.1
Stock Galaxy Nexus ROM
OMAP
Situation 1:
The first situation is where your screen has gone completely black. You can't boot into anything and nothing is displayed on the screen. Your computer no longer recognises the device. It is literally a brick. If you are in this situation, please follow the solution 1 and 2 else skip to situation 2.
Solution to situation 1:
I was googling everywhere for a solution to this and it appeared that it was not a common problem and those who did face the problem simply returned their phone on warranty. It is now an old phone but I still like it (will be upgrading to nexus 5 in the next few weeks). I didn't want to waste such a good phone and just have it sit there so I researched.
My solution to this problem is omap. I would post a link but unfortunately I do not have the permissions (for the download link I will be uploading later).
Please note that I do not take any credit for any program used in this guide and I am simply putting together several other guides so that future users who have this problem can access them all in one place.
Here is the step by step guide:
1) Open OMAPFlash. Navigate to usb_drv_windows. *Right click on omap_winusb.inf and click install*.
2) Navigate to usb_drv_android. *Right click on android_winusb.inf and click install*.
*Note: On Windows 8 (8.1), you will have to allow all certificates to be installed.
3) Double click on the omap4460_tuna_hs_pro.bat and run it accordingly. You will have to disconnect the device and remove battery. Connect the device and then count to 5. Re-insert the battery.
4)Omap will now start doing its thing and you will be given situation 2.
Situation 2:
This situation is where you have a phone connected to a yellow exclamation mark which is connected to a computer. Mind my ASCII Art, but here is what it looks like: [] - - /_\ - - [ ]. You can't do anything with this either but ODIN (google it) will pick it up. This is a good thing. You won't be able to boot into recovery mode or download mode which makes it hard to flash a ROM to it or fastboot it. You will need CF-Root-GGN_YAKJU_ICL53F-v5.1 (Google it). Here is the step by step guide:
Solution To Situation 2
1) Open ODIN3. Select the CF-Root-GGN_YAKJU_ICL53F-v5.1 as the PDA file. If your phone is not being recognised (should say added! in the log), simply disconnect device, remove battery, reconnect device and then place battery back in and hold down the power + vol up + vol down buttons.
2) Press start. The log will start filling up and it should say DONE! You now have bootloader.
3) Now you will need to find the stock ROM for the galaxy nexus (google it). Now you will need to extract that the contents into your adb file (from the android sdk installation which hopefully you have,
4) Put your device into bootloader mode. Run the fastboot flash-all batch file that should be included with the custom ROM.
5) Your phone will now start doing stuff and constantly rebooting in and out of bootloader mode.
6) You should now have the stock ROM installed.
Again, I am sorry that I cannot post links but I do not have permissions due to lack of posts. I know this is an old phone but this guide may still be useful to someone. Also, feel free to ask any questions or point out any mistakes I have made.
no need that android adk. setup correctly adb & fastboot just enough. i think this type of threads already here..
* yeah.. but no sticky guide. maybe good to go. better make ' how to prevent gnex from bricks'
omap flash.exe ~

I probably already know the answer to this but I want to make sure: can this procedure be applied to the Verizon Toro?
Update: Phone isn't responding to this fix... It was a long shot maybe in a week or two it'll turn on...
I'll write up a tutorial for us Toro kids... Thank you guys!

After 3 months of searching, I'm presenting you the method to Root your ASUS Fonepad 7 FE375CG (FE375CXG)
Introduction:
Originally this Rooting method appeared on 4pda, a Russian android forum meant for Russian community.
I translated the content of the Rooting in English below.
I hope the people, who have long waited for a working Lolipop Root, will find this guide useful.
Disclaimer:
* Warranty is void.
* I don’t guarantee that this will work.
* It maybe cause bad effects to your tablet.
* You are responsible for any damages or other issues that may arise directly or indirectly because of this.
* Very important: All your data and programs will be lost!
Before starting:
This root is specifically for WW_fonepad-12.14.3.18 (that's World wide version - lolipop).
This root will work both for FE375CG and FE375CXG.
To this date, 12-March-2016, WW_fonepad-12.14.3.18 is the latest update for this tablet.
Using this method will require to download 4 objects, in total of 900 MB.
Using this method will require a PC and a SDcard.
As for SDcards, I recommend Class 10 SDcard for android.
Step1: Pre-rooting - Check your software model.
1. Make sure that you are fully updated to WW_fonepad-12.14.3.18 (Lolipop) via OTA update.
2. You can check your firmware version here. ::: Settings --> About --> Software information --> Build number
Step2: Preparing firmware
1. Go ahead and download firmware ==> UL-K019-WW-12.14.3.18-user.zip (Lolipop) (800mb) ::: (Look at this picture)
2. Rename the zip file to MOFD_SDUPDATE.zip
3. Place MOFD_SDUPDATE.zip in your SDcard. (Don't put it inside another folder. ) (Look at this picture)
Step3: Preparing USB connection
1. Download USB-drivers for ASUS connectivity ===> Download ASUS_Android_USB_drivers_for_Windows.zip, then unpack it, then install Install_Driver.bat
2. Download USB-drivers for ASUS connectivity ==> Download and install IntelDnXUSBDriverSetup.zip.
Step4: Rooting
1. Turn off your Asus fonepad 7 FE375CG (FE375CXG)
2. At the same time, Press and hold Vol+, Vol- and Power for 4 seconds. ::: Screen on your Fonepad will remain turned off
3. Connect Fonepad to computer
Initializing rooting/using downgrade.cmd:
4. Download rooting tool ===> Download Downgrade_K019_NEW.zip, unpack it and start Downgrade.cmd. ::: Blue window will appear on your monitor and start working
5. Wait till you see logo Intel appear on your tablet. Disconnect from PC then turn off your tablet by holding power-button.
6. On tablet, again press and hold Vol+, Vol- and Power for 4 seconds.
7. Connect Fonepad to computer
8. On computer, hit Enter. ::: Rooting will continue
9. Later, you'll get a notice "ERASE USER DATA (FACTORY RESET)?". When you see that you should Only press ENTER.
10. Wait at least 10 mins for the rooting process to finish. When everything is done, the blue window (Downgrade.cmd) will close by itself.
Finalizing rooting/using DROIDBOOT:
11. Once Downgrade.cmd closes, your tablet will be in DROIDBOOT screen.
12. On tablet, Insert your SDcard into Fonepad. (MAKE SURE THAT YOUR HAVE PLACED MOFD_SDUPDATE.zip INSIDE YOUR SDCARD (Like in Step2).
13. With Vol+ or Vol- navigate to “Recovery” then click Power to select ::: Your tablet will proceed to root. Wait 5~10 minutes. When everything is done, your tablet will be turned-on and ready.
Congratulations. You've done it!
14. Go ahead and update SuperSu in Play Store.
It worked for me so it should work for you.
Thank yous:
Thank you 4pda for providing this method of rooting, source.
I copy pasted disclaimer from this guy's post, someone else's thread, as this sums everything well.
To Suzukube, for providing feedback to this guide.
Cheers,

Oh Also, after step 13, your tablet will take a lot of time to boot, like 5 minutes ^^ !
To save your device, there is an amazing Asus application. It is called "Sauvegarde" in french. YOu can use it to restore your apps settings

Hi Tarhsaz,
In short, there isn't
So for example, you should redownload your calculator........ O_O
Ahaha I'm kidding xD
But really, you should redownload whatever you want to have after Rooting.
And backup your important data on computer or somewhere else, before rooting.

Try with a new sd card, it will work
hi, i need help. my fe375cxg got rooted according to step 10 without much problem. then i went to step 11 & inserted SD card keeping the file MOFD_SDUPDATE.zip in root folder but recovery at step 13 failed to find the file, so i mistakenly rebooted. now it does not go to recovery state. if i push vol up & power switch at the same time it vibrates & shows "ASUS IN SEARCH OF INCREDIBLE powered by android" but does not go to recovery. i assume if i can go to recovery then i can flash MOFD_SDUPDATE.zip file. can anybody suggest how to go to recovery OR any other idea how to proceed. Thanks a lot in advance for your feedback.
Edit: At last by pushing vol up & power switch at the same time for a short time i was able to go to recovery mode. However, it looks like the file name should be MOFD_SDUPDATE (not MOFD_SDUPDATE.zip, since it is already a zip file) in the root folder of SD card, and it worked smoothly for me.
At the same time, Press and hold Vol+, Vol- and Power for 4 seconds.
Doesnt work with my device Asus Fonepad FE375CXG-1A006A. Whats that for a mode? Is that recovery mode or bootloader? Should I feel a vibration when pushing these 3 buttons? Does this work with win10x64?
I tried now Recovery mode (like smith74 is suggesting in his edit), but now --> Intel SoC Device Detection Failed in the BlueWindow appears
I also tried it again starting the .cmd as administrator --> !!! ERROR !!! FWR_DnX NOT EXIST, EXIT!
Edit: Ok now I got it. (It works with Win10x64 too, you don't have to use Win7 or sth like that). The trick is that you don't get any haptic feedback from the FE375CXG and you also don't (nearly) see anything on screen of the fonepad. You really have to push all 3 buttons (+) (-) and (Power). You can count to 4 or (better) take a deep look on the fonepad-screen, it flickers! Then release the buttons. After when you plugin your device (and everything is ok) Windows shows a screen, installation of "moorefield" or "adb-drivers.." something like that. Then you can go on with 4) Downgrade.cmd
Great Job .. many thanxx
How to downgrade from Lollipop to kitkat on Asus fonepad fe375cg? please, help!
So I'm facing some problems after upgrading to Lollipop via OTA. The device became very slow, I can hardly use it. Can I use this method to downgrade to KitKat? In other words, Can I use Kitkat firmware instead of the lollipop and continue with the same steps?!
Confirmed work for K019 Asus Fonepad 7 FE375CXG, indonesia,
with latest firmware WW_fonepad-12.14.3.18 official ota.
never tampered with, locked bootloader, not rooted.
i only used this tablet for my porn device.
Thank you op,, you have no idea how i bricked 2 different asus devices with different methods,,, and this is the only method that works....
As for problems, i have a few:
1. Step 4-4, like zardoz77 said,, there's no feedback whether i successfully pressed the vol+,- and power button,,, for me,, there's no flickering screen either,,, but what works for me is,, you have to press that 3 button for EXACTLY 4 SECONDS, and then release it,,, more or less than 4 seconds,, then it's gonna be "intel soc detection failed".
2. Step 4-8, when i see intel logo on tablet, then disconnect -> press3 button -> reconnect -> hit enter,,, the blue window unable to recognize the tablet!! and there are dozens of "attempt to reconnect" text,,, then i yanked the usb cable,, and it continues to root,, turns out the problems is my usb cable,, just one of the few solutions of that particular step.
3. Step 4-13, for me, the first time boot after recovery is 15-20 minutes,, at first, i thought it failed,, but then gave it a time,, it will show you the welcome screen.
Thanks a lot OP,,
Now, time to strap those sweet dualshock3 controllers.
tyring to delete my posting ... but don't know how
