El13 - Samsung Epic 4G Touch

I tried putting a new rom on my phone which is a el30. I flash a rom that has el30 when I flash to the rom with el13 the rom won't boot. Do you have to Odin the new modem? Sorry I did not search no time to sit down and search through 100's of threads

Simple answer, "no". Modems, kernels and ROM versions do NOT need to match. You probably flashed a bad download or had something go wrong in the process.
If you give more information (which ROM, kernel, how you flashed, etc.) We can probably help you further. Or even better, you could ask in the thread where you got you ROM.

I recently rooted my phone with EL29 full restore one click Odin. I want to try the tFD10_v0.1.0 ROM do I have to modem to FD10 in order to flash this ROM or can I stay on EL29. How does it work I see a lot if roms with FD05 or 10 does that mean I can't flash them since my modem is EL29.

Ok first off this info is all over the place and I advise prior to taking the plunge into ICS you read up on EVERYTHING and when I say EVERYTHING I MEAN EVERYTING. Now with that said you can either Odin or flash the modem onto your phone but it is not required to run the ICS rom. Also you can run an IcS modem with a GB rom.
Once again all this info is in xda as asking you may feel is easier but please please please for all thats holy...LOL just do some research before going forward. Dont want to see your phone become a paperweight. Go into his ICS thread and read like 10-20 pages and see whats going on prior to flashing... JUst MY thouGHTs...
Edit: to clarify
Modems = Any modem for any rom ICS or GB you can try them all if you like
Kernels= ICS kernels only for ICS roms / GB kernels only for GB roms
Ok I'm going to stay away from ics for now. I do want to try the FD05 leak by using one click Odin though so can I just Odin over my setup now which is Calkulin E4GT v 3.0 cause I'm already rooted? Sorry if I'm not making sense I'm trying to word it properly

[Q] cmw5 somehow keeps disappearing..

When I first rooted on fi27. I did the agat fi27 repack.. and flashed several different custom Roms. Blazer gb abd ics.. with agat recovery. I wanted to go to the mijjz jb v1.0.3 so I used the oneclick fk23 stock rooted, flashed chris's el26 cmw5 did a backup, cleared all the caches, flashed mijjz jb and got a phone fc on start up had to boot into download and reflash stock fk23.. why would I be losing cwm5?

Because you flashed a new kernel without a recovery when you flashed jellybean.

CWM is in the kernel which changes to whatever kernel is installed in the ROM you are flashing. None of the new JB roms have CWM in the kernel as of yet.. if you need to flash something you need to odin or mobile odin to a safe cwm kernel , flash , than flash back to a JB kernel.
Steps and links are discussed in just about every JB rom thread

[Q] No 3g or pic messaging or swype

So i have a epic 4gt. Ive tried a few different roms 4.2.2 and everyone i try i don't get any 3g, no swipe, and cant send or receive pic mail through mms, and also volume seems to be way lower then stock. Idk if i did something wrong? idk pls help thanks so much. I personally don't think its a rom...im leaning more towards my phone...its kinda rare that all roms i try are the same.
@firechickenmatt
Make sure that you have a ICS modem, unfortunately on AOSP, the volume is low, and the AOSP keyboard does have gesture typing, but it doesn't come with the swipe keyboard

And if you bounce back between AOSP, CM, and Tw, make sure you change modems according to the dev's instructions. Data won't work on jb roms with ics modems, same as it won't work on aosp and cm with a jb modem.

Yea, the JB update has a jb modem (GB27), ICS modems (FI27, FL24....etc,etc,) don't worry, if you go to rwilco12's android repository, they have all the modems, and there categorised by type, ( GB,ICS and JB)
OK well went back to stock for a while...but same thing happening lol I can't win...every time I turn off WiFi no signal (3g)...and I'm guessing I have jb modem hence the gb27

That's because you can't flash modems using Mobile Odin on our device. You'll have to flash a custom kernel using mobile Odin and then flash the jb modem in cwm.

You cannot use mobile odin to flash modems. You'll have to download a zip and flash via cwm (recovery).

I hate to say this, but if you don't know what CWM is, you are a noob. You need to spend some time reading before you touch anything else on your device.

brain fart it hit me right after i hit send. but i still need a suggestion on a kernel that will work. again i'm doing everything modin odin since i have no USB functionality.
i've never used CWM but i have read about it i have rooted every phone i have own, sticking mostly to stock roms for compatibility issues since i kept reading about this and that not working in this rom or that rom. but things have gotten so much better. i'm ready to explore. i'm running stock ICS and want to get some JB action on my SG2 epic touch. then again i may just upgrade to the SG4 and have the port fixed put it to stock and ebay it

I think I mentioned this to you before. You can't use Mobile Odin to flash modems. It won't work. Are you on a stock jelly bean rom? Stock ics rom? If you are on fl24 rom, use fl24 modem. If you are on gb28 rom, you have to use jb modem. If your usb doesn't work, flash a custom recovery with mobile Odin, boot into recovery, and flash modems that way. Just ensure you have a stock kernel(or custom) of the same build you currently have on your phone in zip format saved to your phone before flashing custom recovery.

[Q] How do I get CWM and an AOSP rom on my phone(Boost Galaxy S2)?

So on my screenshot it says the modem and kernel I'm using. I rooted my phone with framaroot and agats recovery came with it. I want to flash either cyanogenmod 10.1 or jellybam. I'm a noob to all this though and I would like to know what you recommend for me to do to get clockworkmod recovery and what modem to use to be able to flash an AOSP rom.

I sent you a reply in pm, asking what Rom you wanted to flash. AOSP roms use ics modem unless it says specifically in the op to use something different. You already have cwm on your phone with Garwynn's kernel. However, I recommend flashing a safe kernel with cwm(el26) either using Odin or Mobile Odin. You can also download the zip version, reboot into recovery, and flash it worth Garwynn's, because he has Agat's recovery(cwm). If you do it this way, just reboot into recovery after and you'll be on el26 kernel. Wipe everything, flash your rom, modem, reboot, enjoy!

Hmmm...I have never heard of this rom, but of course I do not really go outside XDA to flash. But from what it looks like, it is simply a stock VM rom, with some goodies baked in. And if you are running gb28 modem, that's all you need. And you can try flashing this with Agat's recovery(Garwynn's kernel), but I think the op says that as well. But here's what I would do. Since the recovery link is sxtp's site, and it actually says e4gt in the name, then you should be ok flashing with what you have. Let me know how it goes!

Rooting Galaxy S2/ Custom Roms [Virgin Mobile]

I have had custom roms on my optimus v and htc one v but never a samsung device and im scared hearing about these bugs that brick your phone and whatever odins are. Can someone give me a guide to root/put a safe recovery on my phone then explain odins? Htc devices have nothing like these sorry if this thread was pointless, if anything just point me to a thread thanks

Rooting is rooting. Once you're rooted you can flash whatever you want. Just follow the guides and you'll be fine. If you figured out how to root htc, this is a breeze!

Yes, through odin, but if you want to flash custom roms, use el26 custom recovery. Roms come with their own kernel, some custom. But is you are rooted, and want to stay with your jb stock, you can flash agat's or garwynn's custom kernel, both have cwm.

Mobile Odin can not flash modems anyway, and yes, you can flash el26 cwm in the recovery your have now, as long as its zip format. Boot to recovery, flash el26, reboot into new recovery, flash rom, gapps, modem, reboot, enjoy.
