I'm in a bit of a jam. Im on EG30 (couldn't get the lastest OTA due to low battery), decided to root and CWM, then attempt to flash EL26 modem. It froze, so I attempted to unroot and get the OTA and restart the process. However, when I went to move the EG30 tar file from the zip to the desktop, it asked for a password (which I have), and my computer wouldn't let me click ok, which can be seen from 1:49-2:00 mark in qbking's 12/7/11 video on how to unroot/unbrick (can't post link due being a new member).
Any help will be greatly appreciated.
EDIT: Nevermind!!!

Hello all,
This is my third Galaxy S2 for T-Mobile and this is the hardest phone to root, lol. For some reason when I flashed ClockWorkMod Recovery via ODIN it does not want to read any files on SD or Internal. It keeps erroring out saying "bad file". The first and second phones did this, but it would actually push the Superuser APK over anyway after boot, but this phone isn't. Renaming it doesn't help either. I've used three different versions of CWM, including the touch release and NADA...ZIP. I even tried flashing a pre-rooted ROM and it still will say "bad file". Please help. If I have to flash a rooted ROM via ODIN, I'll bite the bullet, but any suggestions will be helpful.

ZedoMax has created a very helpful website with videos and step by step instructions on how to root, install ROMs etc. Check out the website below, it should help you out, it really helped me out.
If you want to Root and have the option of installing ROMs, check out the link below:
http://galaxys2root.com/galaxy-s2-root/how-to-root-t-mobile-galaxy-s2-sgh-t989/
If you are only interested in Root access and don't want to install ROM's, check out the link below:
http://galaxys2root.com/galaxy-s2-root/how-to-root-galaxy-s2-newworks-on-all-galaxy-s2-variants/
Thanks. I can at least root it now. Got all the bloatware off of it. The first two phones I could put custom roms on it, but this one is a piece, lol. I even put the old firmware 2.3.5 on this one and clockwork still errors out. Shoulda kept the first one-ran smooth with Jugs rom, brought it back to the store because of the green camera issue, lol.
And I am now rocking Jug 5.0! Turned off signature verification and fixed permissions and it worked.
So I was doing some tinkering yesterday with my phone (added twrp so that I could flash some files) and then I was going to go back to stock recovery. So my plan was to use odin to flash the cf-autoroot file so that I could get stock recovery back.
Problem is the last time i used odin on the computer I was on, I was working on my old s3... so I didn't realize that I had accidentally selected a MD5 file for s3...
Eventually I realized the issue and rectified by flashing the correct file. Phone came back up no problems or so it seemed until I went to turn on my wifi... My wifi will not turn on now. So I flashed stock and still same thing, wifi will not turn on.
I used the stock file from here, http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2258628 and it still will not work.
I'm downloading the UVUAMDL file now and I'm going to try flashing that, but I'm not feeling too optimistic about this working.
Can anyone help me out on this one? All I want to do is get wifi back to being able to turn on. At this point I think I may just keep the phone unrooted in the end... I always keep it stock rooted if I do root.
Any and all help is greatly appreciated.
odin would be your only option. Go to samung-updates and d/l the tmo latest release, and flash that thru odin.

I got it. UVUAMDL file fixed it... weird that the other file didn't fix it. Time to rebuild my phone... all the installing and customizing.... yay...
Okay, either I am a complete idiot who can't figure out the search function, or there are no Odin flashable roms for the sprint galaxy s3. I know there's the stock 4.3 one by cnexus, but I don't want that because it still has Knox.
So here's what I did. I downloaded the all-in-one zip from ThunderStick and ran it in the latest version of TWRP. The ROM booted up fine, and I was able to work with 4.3 for a bit, but it was acting funny, so I redownloaded the zip and went back to TWRP to re-wipe and re-flash. The flash seemed to go fine, but then once I hit the reboot system button it got stuck at the 'Galaxy S3' splash screen. I can still access TWRP, and it still shows the zip in storage, but it fails whenever I try to flash. So now, I need an ODIN tar, something like stock 4.1.2, just whatever can keep me away from knox so I can try reflashing cnexus's Knox-less version. I think I'm in what is called a soft brick... and all I wanted was for the stupid Ota "update is available" to stop bugging me every five minutes.
EDIT: Here's what happens when I try to install.
"Checking to see if your device is compatible
Device confirmed - d2spr
Checking previous ROM installed
File_getprop: failed to stat "/system/build.prop
E: Error executing updater binary in zip '/sdcard.......
Error flashing zip '/sdcard.......
Updating partition details"
And then a big red "Failed" under that.
I need this phone back in operation one way or another by tomorrow morning. I will spend all night on Google if that's what it takes, and maybe even sell a kidney if I have to. We'll see how the night turns out.
if you go here, there is a one click odin for md4 (4.1.2) [ROM][ODIN][TAR]SPH-L710 MD4 (MD4 Modem/Kernel/ROM - Stock)
Following those instructions should get you going
I can weigh in here. been roughly where u are.
check md5 on the files your using
try applying zips from both internal and external storage.
I screwed up watching tv and listening to family members instead of paying attention but your rarely lost completely.
my path backwords to 4.1.2 from thunders 4.3 "all in one" was
billards full "md4 with count reset zip" INSTALL ROOT/SU AND CWM/TWRP AFTER FLASH FROM CWM/TWRP or it wont be there after reboot. Of course you can lay your 4.1.2 backup over top after which will have all that.
the play store will have versioning issues going backwards, but they sort themselves out eventually. Maps will likely be the most annoying
Have fun and don't panic.
Thank you guys for your responses. I ended up stealing my girlfriend's micro sd card and installed the zip found here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=32176586 and that cleared things up. Then I just reflashed the ThunderStick all-in-one and it is working fine now, thank God. And I still have both my kidneys, for now.
Glad you got it going!
So I've been happy for a couple of years with previous ROM. Installed Airdroid and it totally killed it. Just bootlooping now.
I'm going on a trip tomorrow and need the hotspot. Can anyone point me to a ROM that is stable and has the hotspot rolled into it. Data, and roaming required, working bluetooth would be good too. .
I've been reading for hours as usual (it's 3:30am and I'm running out of time), but am not sure the current state of the development of the ROMs for a phone this old.

WickedX and Wicked S5, both have it. If you want AOSP, most if not all have it as well
Thank for the reply,
The one click update update to ND8 is hanging (odin not responding).
The original Blue Kuban Files I installed are 404 and the backups I had stored on my PC were lost when the PC died.
I don't need the latest greatest version of anything, I just need a working phone. Even the hotspot is optional at this point. I run my own business and the voicemails are backing up hence the ASAP request for help.
Any help anyone can give me to make this quick and easy would be appreciated. Thread lengths for these are now in the 1000s of pages so reading all isn't practical. Particularly when each page leads to another, and another, and another, which after a couple of hours of reading, then has dead file links.

I don't like using the one clicks, use regular Odin from here:
https://www.androidfilehost.com/?fid=23501681358547889
Make sure you download all the necessary files before you start this
Download NJ2 stock to update bootloader and modem from this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=58297282
Once it is flashed, Odin Philz Recovery from here:
https://goo.im/devs/philz_touch/CWM_Advanced_Edition/d2lte/philz_touch_6.48.4-d2lte.tar.md5
put it in the PDA or PA slot unchecked auto reboot, after flash pull battery and manually go into recovery.
Then from within Philz Recovery flash Wicked S5 from this thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=57728620
It says you need to be on ND8/NDC, but that is what you need as a minimum, NJ2 is newer than both of them.
NONE of these are my work, I just searched around for you to get you what you need, let me know if you need more help or have questions.
I did kind of dig myself out of the hole today and got Gummy installed. Had to update CWM and install following this page http://galaxys3root.com/galaxy-s3-roms/gummy-rom-for-galaxy-s3-4-4-4asop/ Tried open garden hotspot but Gummy kept crashing so was very glad to see your post.

Followed your awesome instructions. This message coming to you via the hotspot on the Wicked ROM.
Thank you mattzeller, you Sir are a gentleman!
Glad I could help get you back up and running. Remember DO NOT try to flash any lower bootloaders via any flavor of Odin, if you will brick your device. You can flash any ROM you like, be it a JB, KK, or LP as they do not contain bootloader.
So i just spent the last 4+ hours trying to figure out what the latest firmware for the Samsung Galaxy S3 SPH-L710 since google was not my friend tonight.
So i had L710VPUDNJ2 installed on my phone... rooted, TWRP, unlocked bootloader.
I kept getting prompts about an update for the phone, and finally decided i couldn't ignore it anymore, so my journey began to get rid of it.
1st Headache; What is the latest firmware for the phone?
Well according to Sprint's Website for the SPH-L710 the latest version available is L710SPTBMK5.
OK, cool, this should be easy.
Go find a flashable ROM; [ROM][MK5][STOCK][ODEXED/DEODEXED] and flash it to my phone.... Stuck on boot... ****...
2nd Headache; Latest Flashable ROM is CRAP!
Boot back into TWRP and decide to say **** it and do a full wipe.
Wipe System/Data/Dalvik/Cache
Flash MK5 Rom
Reboot phone
Success!
Phone boots up and i can start tweaking it back to my standards... but wait... what's this? No cell signal at all...
Ok this is strange, but it's Samsung after all, so i expect it to be **** and have issues.
I go into Settings and look at the Mobile Networks settings... No Network mode selected.
I choose LTE/CDMA, the phone says it needs to reboot, i tell it OK
Thinking this was the problem and i am smarter than i apparently am, i started to smile and give myself a good pat on the back when the phone booted back up and still no signal.. WTF!?!?
At this point i'm convinced that XDA forums has the dumbest people in the world posting Roms on it and i decide to take on a new approach.
3rd Headache; Finding and downloading everything
So i know that L710VPUDNJ2 is a legit version for the SPH-L710 to work with Sprint.
So i find the ODIN download for it; [STOCK][ODIN][TAR] L710VPUDNJ2 PC Odin Flashable ( Sprint )
I download the latest version of Odin; Odin3 v3.10.7 (this version might change over time just fyi)
I downloaded the latest version of USB drivers for the phone; USB (Driver) ver.1.5.45.0 (this version may also change over time)
And then proceeded with the following
Install Latest drivers
Reboot PC
Put phone into "Download Mode" (Vol Down + Home + Power)
Ran Odin3
Clicked on AP and selected the NJ2 tar file (after extracting it from the .zip file of course)
Connected the phone to my PC
Clicked START after Odin3 recognized the phone
Well, low and behold after 20 mins or so, i have a working phone again! :good:
I go into the phone's settings and force it to check for an update, and wouldn't you know it, it found one!
I download and install the update, wait for it to come back up, and then immediately go to check what version it's on.... L710VPUDOH1
Well that's nice and all, the sprint website did say that was a version after L710VPUDNJ2, but it's not the LATEST version according to Sprint.
So, i go back and force the phone to check for updates.... Nothing!
So there you have it. Don't believe everything you read on the internet.
TL;DR: Sprint website lies. Use the links above to get on the latest version.
Well, you can't update with a rom zip. To update, you always have to use a .tar in odin. The .tar files contain the modem and bootloader files, which are required for an updated phone to boot.
You are lucky you didn't try an mk5 tar, you would have a hard brick. That is pre Knox firmware (4.3 jellybean). I heard there was a new mk5 too, I don't know for sure. But the first mk5 was the boost and virgin Mobile version of mk3. But someone posted they got an mk5 update that said stagefright patches, so.... Not sure. But oh1 and oj1 are the newest, I believe, for sprint, and boost/vm. Respectively
That thread you linked for the mk5 flash able zip clearly said jellybean 4.3 and that date was a couple years ago. Clear indication that it was not new.
There is supposedly a new MK5 that is supposed to fix Stagefright completely as opposed to a half fix from OH1.
L710SPTBMK5
Previous was L710VPUDOH1.
However, I suppose at this point, most of the userbase has already upgraded to a new phone or installed a custom ROM, so anything on this forum that's not 2015 and says MK5 is too old.
