[Q] MMS broken after bad modem flash. - Samsung Epic 4G Touch

After I rooted my Epic Touch, I tried to run the OTA from EG30 to EK02 and it failed. So I manually updated to EK02 and since then my MMS has been broken. The first time I tried to flash the EK02 modem it was a bad file through CWM so I did the right one through odin and it was worked but now no MMS. I've flashed EG30, EK02 and EL13 with no luck. Anyone have any ideas? Also I've done the manual reactivation to no avail.

When you flashed the one in Odin, did you flash the version that completely restores stock or the one that doesn't touch data? If you restored to full stock setup, maybe there's a data outage. It has been reported tonight being New Year's
Sent from my Nexus S 4G using xda premium

The one that doesn't touch data. And no that's not it this has being going on fo rthe past week.

When you say MMS is broken, could you describe the symptoms?
I don't believe MMS *send* actually uses dedicated functions in the radio. It actually uses TCP to contact the server. I believe the way MMS *receive* is implemented is you get a special SMS message that triggers the MMS software to download the media files.
So basically from the radio standpoint, if it is delivering data and SMS it has done its job and the problem is somewhere else.
There is also the posibility the problem is on Sprint's end.

I can receive but not send. Most of my family uses Sprint and live in the immediate area and they haven't had any problems with sending. The all have OG Evo's though, and one Optimus.

Have you tried running stock ROM and doing a factory reset?
This doesn't sound like a radio problem to me. It sounds like a ROM problem.

I"ll try that when i get home from work. Thanks.

Tried it. Didn't work. Receives no problem just when I try to send I can see that no data is being transferred.

When you say "didn't work", did you go all the way back to stock by flashing one of the complete tar files? If you did and it still doesn't work then I'd say you have a hardware issue because those files would take you back to just like the day you got the phone.
If you didn't, then do that and then root via auto root. Links are in sfhub's signature above.

EH17 Messaging and Calling problem

Ever since I went from EH06 to EH17, I can only make calls, and send/receive texts when I am roaming. When I get into a sprint service zone, I lose my ability to text, and when I try to make calls, I get an automated message telling me that my authentication code can not be verified. I received the
same message when I checked the efs clear button on Odin a while back, but I fixed it by clicking th activate button on my phone when I had service. This time around whenever I flash any version of the EH17 build, I get this problem, and I don't get the popup telling me to reactivate like I did before when I fixed it. I've used Odin to flash back to EH06, but I still can only use my phone when I am roaming.
I'm back on EH17 rooted/deodexed hurricane rom.
Does anyone have any information as to how I can fix my phone?
Sent from my SPH-D700
Did you try updating Profile and then PRL?
Yes, but I still have the same problem
How about a Factory data reset?
Sent from my SPH-D700 using XDA App
Does Odin count as a factory reset? If so, I've done that too, and still can't make calls or text when I'm not roaming.

I guess it would if you tried it before restoring any data. Just Odin the EH17 in and then update Profile and PRL and then try it. Don't restore anything.
Alright, so I used odin to go back to EH17 again, and updated profile, and prl, but it still doesn't let me text or make calls.

And this only happens on the EH17 leak? You said you tried the EFS clear and it doesn't put you through the activation like on the other leaks. What if you called Sprint and they put you through reactivation?
Sent from my SPH-D700 using XDA App
It started happening when I installed the EH17 leak, even if I flash to an older build like EC05, I still get the same problem, I might have to call to reactivate.
Thanks for all the help

Did this happen after you tried the EFS clear or was that an attempt to fix it? Best bet is to let them go through the reactivation. Let us know how it works out.
Sorry it took so long to reply, but using the EFS clear was only an attempt to get my phone reactivated, but that didn't work. I have a feeling I'll have the same results if I call Sprint to reactivate, so my next plan is to flash back to EC05 or anything before EH17, and clear EFS and see if that helps.
Did you try Odining in the EC05 modem?
Yes, I used odin to flash back to EC05, with the EC05, cleared my EFS, and still, on EC05, I am unable to text, or make calls. I thought it was EH17, but something must be wrong with my phone, so I don't have any idea as to what to do now.

Did it go through the hands free activation after the EFS clear? I would Odin to stock, if it still don't work call Sprint and have them reactivate the phone with you.
Yeah, it went through the hands free activation, but when I'd try to send a message or make a call, I get the same problem, and I live in a town where I'm always roaming, so I can't check if something works everyday, I have to wait until I go out of town.

I thought that only happened on cloned phones.
And YES GO NYG!
Well I checked, and they matched. Could flashing EH17 cause this to happen, or did Sprint somehow shut off service on my phone?

It shouldn't. And if the activation went fine then you should have service. Flash to EC05 stock and call them.

WiMAX No longer working

OK folks, don't understand what's going on here. All I have done so far is
Rooted with Zedomax v3
flashed stock kernel back on the phone
WiMAX definitely worked when I got the phone, but now I get stuck at "Obtaining IP Address"
Any ideas? Here is a link to my pastebin of WiMAX interface starting up...
http://pastebin.com/RkDYYSAM
The only way to tell what happened is to try a different kernel or rom and see if it works. If all fails go back to stock, if it fails then then you must have lost your wimax keys... and that would suck!

hmm, thought I read that Samsung doesn't have wimax keys in the same way that HTC does. They are embedded in the device and can't be lost. Plus, I make it pass authenticating to the tower, just seems to have problem establishing IP
Odin the eg30 stock rom/kernel that crawlj posted. It should fix it. This is what has been fmdone to fix the wifi and 4g problems.
Sent From My Evo Killer!!!
It looks more like a network problem to me (albeit a convenient one). Since the problem is obtaining an IP, then your wimax radio is having no problems actually getting the signal (otherwise it would hang on connecting) and problems identifying the connection. What I would do, if it were me, would be to flash crawrj's stock tar (the whole stock rom in tar form), factory reset and try again.
If it still hangs after that, then it's the tower and give it a day or two to get it's own panties out of whatever twist they're in.
Sometimes this kinda stuff happens to me too, but it always starts up again eventually

Can't recieve messages/calls no matter what ROM I use

I'm rooted and have been for a while. I just switched to Team-Nocturnals_Shoooter_RLS3.1.1 rom. I have a problem where sometimes I can't recieve messages on the stock messaging app, I notice this because I have Gingerbread Ghostly constlantly running and that app recieves the message but not the stock messging app. I also don't recieve calls every once in a while.
The first time I ever noticed this was about a month ago when I was running a Going-Green rom but it only happened when i switched to that Rom, never happened before then. So I upgraded my radio to 2.15.00.08.08 because that Rom ran so smoothly on my phone and wanted to keep it. The problem kept happening so i switched to another Rom and it happened on that one as well.
I've switched between different roms probably 5 to 8 times and I still don't recieve messages or calls sometimes and I don't know how to fix it. A while back, user on here was nice and tried helping me out by telling me it could have to do with Google voice, so i completely deactivated Google voice and its still happening.
I would really appreciate any input and info you may have on this and please help if you can. Also can I downgrade my radio? Would that help? Thanks.
What radio version do you have? The newer radios will not allow you to downgrade. But then again, you wouldn't want to downgrade your radio anyway.
When I had this issue it was because Google Voice completely F'ed my phone. My messaging wouldn't work no matter what ROM I flashed. I ended up fixing the phone by accident as I was unrooting it to take it into the store. Here is a link on what I did with mine.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=18399552&postcount=2
Follow that process and fully unroot your phone back to bone stock. Once you've got it back to bone stock try sending yourself a message and see if it works. If it does then feel free to unroot once again and reflash whatever ROM you wish. If it still doesnt work then, while unrooted, make sure your phone has accepted all of the OTA updates from Sprint and then update your profile. If it STILL doesnt work then give Sprint tech support a call and ask them what the ## code is to reset your phone's network signal. I wrote it down somewhere from when I tried it on mine but I cannot find that damn piece of paper. If NONE of that works for you then you may have to take it into Sprint. Good news though, it's already fully unrooted so you don't have to worry about the risk of the techs denying you.
Let me know if any of this helps.
I just switched to decks gingerbread rom which is the first time I've gone without sense and I've had no problems so far. Could it have to do with sense?
Sent from my PC36100 using Tapatalk
Doubtful it is sense. What rom were you using before?
I doubt it was Sense because I was having the same problem with an AOSP ROM.
I was using a lot of different sense 3.0/3.5 roms like gruesomewolfs Rom, hybrid beta 8.5, sinister Rom, I've tried almost all.
Sent from my PC36100 using Tapatalk
I'm trying synergy non-godmode for the first time now and will see if I have problems with it. It doesn't make any sense to me at all why I keep having these problems.
Im trying to avoid un-rooting then re-rooting but will do it if that fixes it.

It's always best to flash each of those separately. Flash the radio and then reboot the phone. Then flash the wimax and reboot the phone. And so on and so on. I flashed one of those all in one packages and I had problems with getting everything set properly. So I did them one by one and they worked flawlessly. I then read, afterwards, that its best to do them individually. I'm not exactly sure why....but that's what has worked best for me and apparently for the majority of other people. So I recommend going back and flashing each of those individually to make sure they all installed correctly.

can receive MMS but not send

This started a while ago. Even using Handcent I can receive MMS but not send it out. It says that they have been sent but they never get received on the other end. It worked perfectly until I flashed to FC24, and I just installed CM9 thinking it would help but it didn't.
It's a SPH-D710 on Sprint network
I already tried deleting the telephony.db file clearing data/cache and rebooting. That didn't help. I found a BoostMobileMMSFix.zip but I'm assuming that won't work for me, even though they were describing the same problem. So I'm a at a loss. Any help would be awesome. I saw references to a ##DATA# method for this problem but couldn't actually find out how to implement it.
Thanks a lot
I can't imagine that I am the only person out there on the Sprint network that this has happened to. Hopefully someone will be able to shed some on the situation soon.
Question---- if I updated with the BoostMobileMMSFix.zip... would it do something horrible to my phone? Or would it simply not work? Is it worth trying?

Hi, a similar thing happened to me recently on my phone and it turned out that because it is a work phone they changed the settings for my phone to block outgoing mms. Is your phone a work phone? Have you tried restoring your nandroid backup (I assume you have one) of your original ROM and checking to see if it works on that? If it doesn't then its something on the carrier side of things :/
Sent from my HTC One S using xda app-developers app
Well I don't think it's something on the carrier side of things, because it started happening IMMEDIATELY after I flashed out of my stock ROM. Unfortunately, I don't have a nandroid backup because when I started this endeavor I was such a NOOOB and I did it hastily.
Could this be an NVRAM issue? Would it be worth resetting that? If so, can you tell me how please?

So I just went all the way back to EK02 and still could not send MMS. After a few Sprint auto-updates I'm in ICS again with FH13. Still no MMS. I tried to update the APN settings (while I was still in CM9 before I flashed to EK02), but I don't think I did it right. I updated the settings to what I found here (http://androidforums.com/evo-4g-sup...86-fixed-sprint-mms-problem-apn-settings.html) but that did not help. Every time I saved it I went from having Sprint listed in the APN settings to having nothing. In other words, it disappeared. Currently thinking I will just stay here till I figure it out. Maybe call my carrier (which is actually CREDO, but it's on the Sprint network)... could be something on their end, right?

Good call on that one. I assumed since they're on the same network they'd use the same settings. They don't. But I still have a problem. I am on CM9, so I can't use a third party app to restore APNs.
I found CREDO's settings here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1824916
However, the list of parameters in the xml there does not match the settings I can modify in the APNs manually in CM9 (accessing it through Voice Dial). Is there another way to restore APNs in CM9? Or can I some how flash backward to Gingerbread, restore, and then flash back without changing the APNs?
Please help, I feel like I'm getting so close to figuring this out!

No problem, I can see not wanting to reflash only to have it not work. I am on sprint not boost mobile, and on a custom rom not stock fh13. However, the problem arose for me when I switched from an ics rom back to a gb rom. Mms didn't work on the gb rom until after I ran prl and profile update.
If you end up giving that a shot, be sure to let us know how it goes. Sorry I can't be of more direct help.

If you end up giving that a shot, be sure to let us know how it goes. Sorry I can't be of more direct help.

[Q] Modem/radio issues?

So, last night, my phone stopped sending text messages. Out of NOWHERE this problem popped up. Tried rebooting a few times, still no messages could be sent (At the time, was using Sniper's PACman 19.3.0 ROM). This morning, I flashed the stock multiboot image, updated my profile, updated my PRL, and tried to send a message. Again, it was a no-go. So, I opened up my recovery (was an EL25 recovery, I believe), wiped data, cache, etc., then I went and flashed the 21.0.0 PACman ROM, flashed gapps, and flashed an FI25 modem. Booted up the phone, tried to send a message, still a nope. Tried to call someone, also a nope, as it just sits at "Dialling...".
I'm not sure what's going on, does anyone else have any ideas? :S
EDIT: Going to try to ODIN to a rooted EL29 and see if I can get results that way.
EDIT 2: Flashing to rooted EL29 did not help.
EDIT 3: I fixed my problem. I used ODIN to flash an EL29 kernel and recovery, as well as wipe my EFS at the same time. After that, I used a one-click to flash to EL29 rooted stock, updated profile, updated PRL, and everything was working! I went ahead and reflashed to PACman 21.0.0 and I can still call and send texts.
Not trying to be a smartass, but are you up to date on your mobile phone bill?
I have to agree... Did you pay your bill?

Even if it was a billing issue the call would still connect, just not to the party you want to reach.

My phone bill isn't due for four days, but we are up to date on the payments.

What I'm really thinking about is why it all of a sudden stopped working correctly...it worked fine ALL day, and I made absolutely no changes to the ROM or anything, but calls and text just stopped working out of nowhere. At least I know how to fix it in the future, if it happens again.
So it appears I'm not out of the woods yet. Same problem has reappeared. Can't send texts, can't make or receive calls. Any ideas?

I've had this happen when a tower near my house was flaking. I thought it was my phone... It was a problem with the tower. Any other *sprint* phones in the household? Have you tried in a different area?

Two other Sprint phones in the house. If there were problems, my mom would be the first to complain about it. I just went ahead and wiped the EFS on my phone, updated profile and stuff, and I'm going to give it another shot. If this is in fact a tower problem, how can I get Sprint to take the hint that they need to get this **** fixed fast? >_>
EDIT: Well, I'm guessing it's a tower thing. After wiping everything, still no messages can be sent or anything.
I had the same thing happen to me in the Pittsburgh area a few weeks ago. Call tech support and they will start a ticket and get it resolved. They even credited me a weeks service for the inconvenience.

How did you wipe EFS? I thought it had to be included in the tar package?

Used the "Phone EFS Clear" check box in Odin when I flashed an old EL29 recovery.

if you call sprint they'll fill a trouble ticket. they did for me but its not likely if other sprint phones look ok. did you look at the other 2 phones while yours was having a problem?
also stay on a stock one click for a few days and see if it works. maybe something odd with pacman (which I'm running fine btw).

I asked my mom to try and send a text and try to call. Text failed, and the call took a good amount of time to connect. And it appears my dad is having problems as well.
