Is the LOS bug only related to seeing the circle with the slash through it or does it occur when you can still see bars for service? I have full or nearly full bars and I still can't make a call or use 3G data.
This is my 2nd Epic 4G touch in 2 weeks because of this issue and basically I am lucky to be able to get any 3G data or even be able to make/receive a call at all. It took me 19 tries yesterday to call out to retentions to tell them to shut my account down because I'm done with Sprint. They convinced me to stay by overnighting me an Airave, but will that solve the issue? I have never had anything less than excellent service at my house with any other Sprint phone.

okay so just posting to see if anyone else is on this page with me
1. I am in a huge coverage area for 4g
2. 4g wont connect, lol ya ya i know...
3. if I go to sprint or bestbuy 4g will connect, but is slower then 3g
5. have any of you also been told that the $10 per month is for the premium
data device(evo), not the premium data service(4g)
dont get me wrong... the evo is still pimpalicous spectacular
but this 4g connection is looking more and more like time travel...
sure we think we can do it... but so far my ticket back to the 80's
for a good laugh is still on hold.

according to the tech i talked to at sprint, there is a nationwide 4g outage causing sproadic service and connections. no word on when this will be corrected
Im in st louis and can connect to 4g just fine in the forest park area, going home later to see if it works more west/south. Did a speed test here and got 3mb/1mb.

Anyways, that all could be about right.
I'm in Chicago and the very minute I leave the loop I lose 4G (least that's what happened yesterday).
Many Radioshack stores will also have 4G points installed, I'd assume if the Radioshack network connection sucks the 4G would too.

I noticed after i posted it, and edited it if you didnt notice that, and have no problems with it being moved or deleted to help keep the dev forums clean!
Does any one have experience with this issue. 4G will connect and it says active, but internet connection wont work at all for any app, browser, youtube, etc. It will work fine when I switch back to 3G.
yeah it happens alot. its seems after 4g goes dormant, apps have difficulty accessing it even tho it shows connected.
There is a thread floating around that has tweaked wimax settings to prevent it from happening
I am having the same problem on mine. However it seems permanent. I am ready to return the phone to sprint. Even when it first connects it can not access the internet.
Mines seems to be a permanant one also. Not a dormant issue, shows active even reboot and reconnect nothing is working right now about to head to sprint store.
I notice that you're located in Boston. This is currently an issue that a lot of people in Boston (myself included) have been experiencing since the 17th. I've called Sprint numerous times about it, but none of the reps I've spoken to knew anything about the issue. There's currently a thread about it on the Sprint forums, but I can't post the link since I don't have enough posts. Just Google "4G Connection Issue - Boston 11.17.2011".

Yep, I was in Boston all last week and starting the 17th I could connect to 4G but had no actual data. I thought it was a problem with my phone but as soon as I got home to Chicago I had no issues with 4G.

Thanks, just found that out coming back from the Sprint Store all of their 4G phones were having the same problem. Argh unroooted and remove stuff for nothing haha.
Glad I read this. I am in Boston now and wondering wtf is going on. I was about to try to flash my phone back to stock.

haha, i did the same thing, i am glad its not the phone, hopefully sprint will fix it soon
I live in boston and I just got the phone on saturday and was wondering why i coudnt get 4g, the sales rep (whome was a close friend of mine) said it might have been because of the weak signal inside the building so i checked outside and still had no connection. I flashed to starbursts rom and still had no 4g even though it showed 4 bars. was going to unroot and return the phone today but i guess not!

It's back up now I think, but I do feel like I got the run around with the call center saying there was no report of outage in my area and I wasted time driving to a sprint center with a reference trouble ticket all for nothing.
I'm not too far from boston, Yet right now Not only is my 4G messed up but I now no longer have any 3G, roaming only at this point.
So when I got my Nexus I had great 4G at work, i'd use wifi tether and tether my tablet all day with no issues, although I never did anything that required much data.
These last few days I can only get 3G at work, but I can get 4G in the parking lot. I don't understand why all of a sudden my signal has deteriorated. I don't know if VZW is able to see I used a large amount of data in one location and force 3G to that particular area? I've tried flashing new roms etc but nothing works, I had 4G today up until I entered the building, but just last week I could sit at my desk all day with full 4G
My first guess would be that it is an issue with the Verizon tower you were getting 4G from before. You could call them and ask if they are having any problems in your area. You might be getting a 4G signal from a tower further away when you go outside.
I know you can force 3G to save battery, but is it possible to force 4G and no CDMA? Im wondering if I can force it to connect to a tower.
Or is it possible to rescan for towers or something? I always download new roms and stuff and it sucks on 3G =\

Like maybe that is better than asking here, since this place is like about the Nexus and not a telecom provider.
Or should all people across the world SPAM this place with new threads every time their thousands of different cell-service providers have random local outages? Would that be tolerated?
Why should Verizon-customers be excempt?
Pull the battery, take the SIM card out, and then power up the phone. It should ask you for a SIM. Now power off and insert the SIM and power back up. See if it helps!!

You can update your PRL.
Seriously though, call in and ask if they're having network issues in your area. If you've done nothing to your phone and it had 4G in an area consistently before and it doesn't now, the problem probably isn't on your end. It'll take 5min to call in and ask. Hell of a lot quicker than troubleshooting problems on your phone that might not exist.
Try updating to the latest bootloader and radio for 4.03
Verizon is the largest carrier in the United States, not just one of millions of carriers across the globe. A lot of topics here correspond to the LTE version so you should expect topics about what is going on with them. Besides, this is GENERAL forum. Can post and ask about anything remotely related to the Galaxy Nexus, GSM or LTE version.
Seriously, if you aren't a moderator, you shouldn't be trying to police the forum. Keep your day job.

If you lost service only in your building it most likely has nothing to do with your phone and is cell-tower related.
At home in the subarb I get crappy sprint service, specifically texting and voice. It takes 5 minutes for a text to come from my mom's ATT phone to me on sprint, and the same situation takes only 5 seconds while roaming on Verizon. For voice, I only have one ring to pick up the phone on sprint vs. four or five rings on Verizon (it only misses one ring). I've tried it many times, so there is NO argument! When I'm at college in downtown Pittsburgh, the service is very comparable to Verizon and I have no issues whatsoever. From searching the forums, I've found out that the voice you use while roaming on Verizon is limited to your anytime minutes (I have 1500), and your data is limited to 300 mb using 1x. Now the problem is that I'm home for summer and I'm sick of the service already. For the past day I have been roaming on Verizon and it feels like I have gotten a whole new phone all over again. Everything works correctly everywhere and it's phenomenal. My texts go through instantly and I'm missing no calls. My question is, if I stay under 1500 minutes (I never even make any phone calls anyways, it would take me months to hit 1500) and under 300 mb of data (I plan on simply using sprint 4g or wifi at all times) until I go back to school in 3 months, will I run into any issues? Is there any limit on the time that you spend roaming or the amount of text messages you send/receive?
Roaming minutes are counted as your plan.minutes, no limit on texts. There's a PRL hack that locks your phone into roaming with 3g speeds. Data is kinda iffy, some people.have gotten dropped from.sprint from.excessive data roaming after from a few months to a year.
Also Google the app roam control, its not in the play store but its very useful for people in your situation.
If I was you I'd just lock in roaming and let sprint eventually drop you, sell your ET4g and get a phone from a better carrier.
agreed.. in the same situation.. ive had roam control for a looong time but just recently put it to use.. im in phoenix az and i cant get a signal in my house unless i use roam control to force roam.. had to for the last few weeks since we dont have internet right now and cant use the airrave..

Call Sprint and get an Airave - provided are allowed another line on your account and have an internet connection at home. Explain your situation (if your school address is your billing address, change it to your where you are now) and they will provide one free(ish). There is a nominal admin fee each month. If the first CSR you talk to tries to charge you fr the unit just ask to be transferred to someone else in customer retention, you'll succeed in getting it for free.

Which is true looking at the map on their website, but far from the reality. I used Roam Control from the market and within 3 months received a letter telling me to curb my roaming or be terminated - the only plus would be the termination would be ETF free. To be clear, the roaming agreement is 800 minutes OR a majority of minutes for voice and 300mb OR a majority of use. So even if you stay below 500 minutes, but they're all roaming you are still violating their terms.
If you call them today your problem should be solved, airave in hand, before the end of the week. If you have any trouble PM me and I'll try to help. Good luck.

I have found that PRL hack, and I do not want to use verizons 3g to prevent using too much data, especially since I have unlimited sprint 4g and wifi.
I am using roam control to force roaming.

I forgot to clarify this in the op, I have had an airwave and it made texting impossible. I returned it a few weeks ago even though it was free.

I'm visiting the family in SE Kansas for the holidays and have yet to get ANY signal on my Epic 4G Touching running Re-Calked FI27. 3G signal is decent back home in Austin but I get the "no signal" icon here pretty much all the time.
I checked Sprint's coverage map for the area and we're definitely off-network. FWIW, my wife has a Sprint iPhone 4S that gets decent signal around these parts, though it usually says she's on the "Extended" network.
What gives? Is this a modem issue? (I've flashed through a few that have done well back in Austin) Is it a limitation of the device not being able to connect to the wireless band supported by the towers around here? I can't even get signal to do a PRL update, but I'm not sure it would matter. Would the Roam Control app be worth buying?

I think I might've "fixed" it by toggling the roaming options off and then back on. I now have the bar icon w/ the triangle above it, although the signal is pretty low. I'd still like to discuss this problem further, though.

I have the 00002 PRL on my phone. You can do a PRL update to return back to Sprint whenever you get back home.
