On some ROMS I've noticed the same behavior, but not on all ROMS. If you are using a custom rom, check by backing up everything and flashing a stock ROM. I'm using unNamed and it shows both networks and can connect to both. Some might say this is a kernel or modem issue, but I've switched ROMS while using the same kernel/modem and the behavior changed.

Sometimes my wifi will say its connected and i know the router is working fine but anytime i use the browser or the xda app or the market or anything that uses data it will not work and it times out. If i switch to 3g then it usually will work fine. But sometimes when i switch over to 3g that does not work either this has only happened a couple of times with 3g not working. But wifi goes out every other day for a hour or so and reboots and clearing cache and dalvic does nothing
Edit: ok I have a problem my wifi is toast it will not work. Tried connecting to three different routers and nothing. Anyone have any pointers?
Bump.... anyone able to help me???

I assume you have rebooted your router first, then tried to reset up the phone after the router rebooted; have you confirmed your router is sending out wifi signals via trying it with another device?
are you using 2.4 ghz wireless phones in your house?
that will interfere with wifi signals
did you ensure your router security settings and your phone security settings are identical?
yup did all that and no I don't have any wireless phones. It was working perfectly the other day. I have tried 3 different wifi conections with the same result. The wifi acts and looks like its connected and working but can not use any data it times out or says cannot display page.

Tried different kernel?
Flash Calkulin's format all twice and reflash ROM.
Sent from my SPH-D710 using XDA App
are you on the stock kernel?
overclocked, or underclocked?
change any of the battery or clock speed settings, or is everything stock?
Ok I will try format all. Do you happen to have a link?
Im on the stock kernel that comes with the calkulin 2.8.1 I have not done any thing else but flash that rom. So maybE I should try a new kernel? Anyone have any suggestions?

Noob here, after sprint update to my note 2, I cannot connect to my router when it is set to N only. If it is set to G and N, it connects, but at 54 g speed. Phone states wrong password, and I know its correct. Any thoughts? and Thanks
I would try different methods of security first. Sometimes a phone or rom can act buggy with one method and not another.

Try resetting the router and see if that helps

reset all
Reset router, restored original settings of router and tried long passphrase and a short one. Tried updating firmware of router, none available. Still will only connect to G, but when I set router to N only, it will not connect. States wrong password. I have a 100mbps service so i would like to take advantage of it.

I am able to connect to my 5ghz N only network. Although it takes sometime for the phone to actually find it... That I'm not sure when especially when I am like 10 feet away from the router.
They resetting router and maybe change to encryption to aes only.
Anyone else with this rom had any issues with reconnection to wifi after restart? When i restart my phone, the wifi is turned on, but it doesn't connect till i go in and tell it to connect to my home wifi. It shows that its still a saved connection too. I experimented a little and noticed its only on the 5g band and that the 2.4g band seems to work fine.

It has been mentioned multiple times: there is a known issue with 4.2.1 based ROMs reconnecting automatically to 5Ghz bands. All of them.

Do you mean 4.1.2? Because this isn't 4.2.1.
For the OP - I haven't had any issues connecting to the WiFi on CleanRom 3.5. Just did a reboot for the heck of it and it obtained an IP right away and worked flawlessly.

are you using a 5g wifi band or 2.4g?
I have the same issue on all 4.1.2 roms I've tried including stock and clean rom.
What router are you using? I have an Asus rt-n66u with custom firmware.

Static ip won't help, yes you can connect to wifi, but cannot get connection to internet. This is a bug of android, and ITs in Princeton univ. had some investigation. It's due to renew and release of address. 4.2 should have fixed it

I just Rooted my Brand New LG Optimus G.
I also just installed the (Wifi Tether) app from the Play Store. I was wondering if I would be charged for using this application to tether.
Any help would be greatly appreciated!!
Oh! I was also wondering if there were any custom ROMS available for the LG Optimus G. (Sprint)
If (Wifi Tether) won't work. What will work to not get charged?
If (Wifi Tether) works, are there certain settings I should put in? If so, what are they?
No, you will not be charged by Sprint for using the Wifi Tether app.
There are no Custom ROMS at this moment but the devs are currently working on making some in the near future
Generic ICS/JB wlan0 ...settings in WiFi tether that'll work.

Does that actually work? I had tried that the other day and even if I am able to get the connection to show is running, I can't get any device to see the signal. Once I was able to get my laptop to see the connection but when I tried connecting it went nowhere.
I get a Bluetooth hot spot without any root. Works great. Foxfi works fine.

Yes, it does work. I am using Wifi Tether (the one with the yellow icon) and have no problem connecting tablet or laptop to my phone, data works as well. Check the setting and make sure you are broadcasting the ssid
I have done a lot of searching before posting this however I am still unable to not only auto connect to known WiFi networks, my galaxy s3 is not remembering passwords for known networks. This is happening on any WiFi network I connect to. It seems to me that the galaxy is not remembering any networks. I have not connection issue. Am able to use the network / internet after connecting just have to input password every time. Any help on this is appreciated.
This is a phone issue not router.
Every network I connect to happens the same way.

It's not a phone issue, it's a ROM/settings issue.
Any insight as to which or how to fix? Happens on stock and cm nightly.

I had the same issue you are having a while back and found out that some wireless routers do
not work exactly normally when the phone tries to connect with it without first asking for password
each and every time.
The way I fixed my problem was instead of typing in passwords, I used the WPS push-button on the wireless router
to establish the secure connection, since then I never had any problems.
Good Luck!
Thanks, I do have wps router so will try and see what happens.
