Right now I am running axi0m 2.1. So far its the best rom that I have used. Its very smooth and battery life is great especially when your phone is asleep. Losing only 3-4 bars over 9 hour period.
The rom can be found at rootzwiki.

Haven't seen any reason to change from stock. I lose about 3-5% overnight as-is, and everything is perfectly stable with no hiccups.
I may run CM9 when it hits a stable release.
Until CM9 is out, I am sticking to stock and rooted...

I didn't have any reason not to run stock so I backed it up and just to check it out I am running Android Revolution HD™ 2.1.2 and it's working very well to date.
i'am using stock rom. i tried android revolution 2.1.2 but i had so many problems with it. stock is far more stable and its faster. with android revolution my battery worked for a day with normal usage (a few emails, a bit gaming) now it last for 2 days...
Started on Th3ory zygote 1.8, now on Axiom 2.1 + matr1x OC kernel. btw these gay ass names kill me! I love you devs but why the idiotic titles?
Im OC'd to 1.35 and stable as a rock. A bit more snappy than the stock, boots much quicker (have my girlfriends bone stock GN side by side to compare) and I love the notification area power toggles too.
Wifi teather up and running and the 240dpi/BRD launcher mod really puts the 720p screen to use! Cant go back to the normal screen density now! Loving this GN more and more...
stock rom because it offer stability, speed, and more stability.
I started with ARHD, but now i am using bigxies rom 5 with the latest franco kernel! Without oc, it's really smooth! But i can't wait for flashing cm9! ;-)
rockin' Axiom 2.1 and lovin' it. fast/stable/ great batt life.

Hi all.
Just setting up a Defy for a less technical fellow and was wondering which rom you would recommend. Chief considerations are stability, battery life, and as little blur as possible. Thanks.
I have been using J boogie's Deblur Honey based on finland 3.4.2-145 sbf for about a week now. I OCed to 1000mhz, got anywhere between 1350-1500 in quadrant. Not using setCPU or set vsel, and I go through my day ~14-16 hours with moderate web surfing and checking fb and have 40-30% left. So I think that's pretty good, especially w/o setvsel/setcpu which i don't like using because im a mimimalist.
3.4.2-155 is proving the most stable for me.
I tried 3.4.2-155 and it worked great except for a lack of 3G.

running the same rom for several days, I didn't OC, still smooth, no issues, very good rom...
Barebones (by fritolays) based on 3.4.2-155 is just amazing if you're looking for speed, stability and a heavy deblur. But, pay attention to the name, it's definitely barebone, you may have to add some apps by your own.
If the owner is not very technical oriented just flash stock 3.4.2-155. I use it since it appeared and is rock stable.
I also recommend 3.4.2-155 . This one has the fastest booting time, and its solid.
Good luck
quadruple dito. I am currently using Pays ROM which is based on the 155 build and it's been amazing thus far. I flashed several other ROMs based off other builds and overall have been greatly pleased...but Pays gave me the highest quadrant score so far (1507 oc'd at 30/300, 54/700, 70/1200).
Quintuple dito.
Using deblurred rom with custom style and tweaks and I am very happy with it.
Similar in speed as my HD2 was on froyo... and much better battery live.
Defy neeeds cm7, though.
I am currently using Pays 5.0 ROM which is based on the 3.4.3-11 build and it's fast and stable. Originally 3.4.3-11 is a blur rom, but you can skip the account creation and pay removed a lot of unnecessary stuff from that.
3.4.2-155-2

Hello guys,
I´ve just questions. Can anyone tell me, what is the fastest ROM for the DHD
and what is the fastest ROM with the best battery life.
Thank you <3
the best rom is cm7 but its very bland to look at. the nicest rom is rcmixhd gingersense. battery life is best on leedroid or cm7. overall id say grab rcmixhd. but if u wanna try out stock android, check cm7
Thank u, for the reply <3
CM7 is certainly my favourite. Clean, quick and just plain Google beauty.
I tried a few roms till now
1. Revolution HD 4.0 (performance issues)
2. Coredroid 4.5 (a bit tooo fancy for my taste)
3. CyanogenMod 7 (pretty bald compared with sense but good battery life)
4. RCMixHD 5.9.5 (Great Rom smooth, stock sense, rather good battery life)
As always a battery wipe helps out the battery life after flashing a few roms.
I´d pick RCMixHD best ratio of design/battery(but thats my taste everyone thinks different)
I only tried
Android Revolution 3.5 with sense
CM 7 stable
Now i am testing cm 7 stable with updated kernel:
[KERNEL][23 APR]LorDMod V4.3|SMARTASS|BFSv400|CFS|SLQB|UV|1.9VOL|VDD|SQ LITE3|.38
and BFQ 4.2 and PUV reuploaded. (see the thread in developement)
With PUV i have a huge battery improvement compared to AR 3.5. But it may not work on every Desire HD. Core is at 122/1078 Powersave.

For my taste CoreDroid HD GB 2.3.3 V5.4 all the way... fast, stable, good battery, no bugs at all......
I'm using MIUI 1.4.22 Rey's Custom Rom v12. Very fast with awesome batt life. Best of the 3 roms I've used (Revolution, CM7 and std HTC Sense 2.1).
Batt life with aid of Juice Defender is consistently around 24 hours with moderate use.
Highly recommended with ADW Launcher. Must be Rey's Custom Rom tho.. def worth checking out! I've never looked back.

I've been on Revolution HD, CM7 stable, and RCMiX HD.
Won't make any comments about Revolution..
CM7 stable is stock android experience; for me, battery life was better than RCMix. However, CM7 starts getting buggy for me after a week or two of use. Sense ROMs do not have this issue.
Speedwise, they're all about the same if you remove all the junk from Sense ROMs
If you check the Themes subforum there's a flashable zip for that!
Whats the most stable , yet fastest rom out ?

Legendary is what I am using on both my Epics and its been super stable once it got out of beta. And god with over clocking options. and the DEVS are always there (daily) to answer questions.
I did some testing of ACS ICS, Legendary ERA, Sleeper, ThunderHawk, Starsky, and CleanGB. I completely wiped my phone between each install. Then I used quadrant to test each. I know some people say that Quadrant results don't mean anything but I figure if I'm using it on the same phone and testing in the same way it should be good for comparing ROMs on my particular phone. Anyway, I ran three benchmarks rebooting between each run. Here are the averages.
Sleeper 1151.3
Clean GB 16 1369
ThunderHawk 3.2 2015
ACS ICS 2218.7
Starsky 1.5 2335
ERA RC 2.1 2495.7
I don't know if that helps you or not but I hope it does. BTW, I haven't had any stability problems with any of these ROMS.
Quadrant doesnt mean anything because some roms have tweaks that make quadrant higher and not real performance.

I'm running the Legendary 2.1 and I must say, it is really really snappy. I just did update the kernel to the 2.0.8 Samurai and it seems to have gotten even better. WAY faster than stock GB and significantly faster than SRF 1.2 that I was on for awhile.
Did some more testing, this time with Smartbench 2011. Here is a chart that summarizes the data from my tests. Like before I wiped everything 3x, loaded the ROM, installed Smartbench 2011, ran 3 tests rebooting in between each. I then took an average of the scores and used them in the chart.
i have been keeping my backup of sleeper rom v1.0.07a because it seems to be the most stable and fastest. i don't get the stability out of the last updates. legendary rc2.1 was also good but i did get some fc issues i don't see out of sleeper rom
Thanks Johnknall for all the awesome testing you did. Very informative. I have recently become a very big fan of ACS ICS 5.5 ROM with the Samurai kernels. Very fast, very stable, and nice battery life.

I've been going through legendary 2.1, ACS ICS (various versions), marcusant revival, and yesterday I just installed SleeperRom 1.0.0.9.
I have to say that I really liked ACS ICS around 5.0 and 5.1, then I think he switched to samurai kernel in 5.5, and it just wasn't smooth for me anymore. but 5.0 and 5.1 did not have the camera mod that I liked.
The revival seems to run pretty smooth, but the battery life was not nearly as good as I got on ACS ICS and that's probably because of the lockscreen mods. I think Marcusant posted a mod to remove the lockscreen mod. Maybe I'll try that again, but the red theming didn't really grow on me enough, and flashing themes seems sloppy in my opinion.
Anyway, I'm really liking sleeperrom 1.0.0.9. Great battery life. Smooth performance, and it just feels nice and snappy.
I want to give props to SenseiSimple for a great rom, and also Marcusant because I really liked ACS ICS too, but it just never felt finished to me.
hi evo owners, my girlfriend has an evo 4g and she is always complaining about how slow it is and how fast her battery drains. (she's a pretty heavy user)
so i come to you guys for help..
which ROMs are you running that are showing the best battery life i can get out this thing and are they stable for day to day use. (being as its not my phone and she knows nothing about rooting. i wont be able to follow updates as ofter as i do on my GSII)
Im just looking for a great stable build with the best battery battery life.
any and all input is really appreciated, thanks

Swagged out stock is a clean fast Sense 1.0 rom that i've been using for months. There's a lot you can customize so you can get some better battery life. In general, the stock battery is what it is.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1258932
I like any of the sense 1.0 roms for quickness, battery and responsiveness. Classic rom, Digital Karma, Nitrous. U use Set CPU and make a profile for screen off. Use power save governor if kernel allows so while locked it will only run at lowest speed. This is helpful on any from though. Hope this helps.
I feel more like I do now then I did then.
I've been jumping back in and forth with JMZ's CM9 ROM and Cyanogenmod's CM7. I never had a Sense phone, so this was my first. After being with the OG Samsung Moment for about 3 years, until the developers fled, I was so used the classic UI. When I was introduced to Sense, I never stuck on to me. Luckily, I barely got this phone this year, meaning most CM7 ROMs were stable with ICS at hand. If you a Sense guy, I would recommend the Classic ROM or the Nitrous ROM. Nitrous gives more of the original Sense experience, but the Classic ROM gives really impressive battery life. It has a lot of available tweaks to play with. My ONLY problem with the ROM is the boot sound LMAO. I never thought i could hear my phone be that loud.
I, too, am running jmz unofficial cm9, & it's great for me but maybe not for her. The issue with battery life, however, is not the ROM; it's more likely the screen & radios that are killing it. My solution has been two-part: using Juice Defender to customize data activity, & larger aftermarket batteries (ChiChiTec - Amazon).
ive been using most of decks roms lately, but if i had to choose a reliable rom it would be synergy. its a little outdated but everything works.
Digitalkarma v7 fast smooth and everything works

So I'm new to the android community coming from an iphone 4S, and so far it's pretty awesome. lol. I've tried two ROM's, AOKP and TuchMi. So far i'm enjoying TuchMi since it brings the stock with all of Samsung's features, plus overclocking, V6 and all that. performance has been nice. As i'm trying to get more into android, I wanted to know you guy's thoughts on the two ROM's or maybe any other ones that might be better?? thanks in advance!

I was hoping this thread to run good since I am trying to get an idea on roms since I just got my S III today.
We got enough good roms going.
I mean we have a subsidized carrier phone, so it's pretty natural for the international counterpart would get more attention.
With that said, I love AOKP.
AOKP is beast. Just trying to test out different ROM's, but seriously, if you like touchwiz, check it out. Only thing is, my apps say they are invalid when I download. Any help??

Diet ICS
Also tried TuchMi, it was pretty good.
Currently using the diet ICS build from 08/04 with the latest BLUE theme installed (found in the diet ICS thread from peterguru) and it looks and works great. Running ktoonz latest kernel (which allows underclocking to 192MHz and has more steps than faux123's v009) and smokin's CPU Editor with Battery Saver. Great battery life, great performance, awesome blue "diet" theme. Probably my favorite so far.
To be honest though the thing that made me switch and flash diet ICS over TuchMi 5.0 was the inclusion of Google Wallet (although now my phone thinks its a Galaxy Nexus ) -- still haven't been able to test it out in the wild though...

I've been on TuchMi-S3"X" 5.0 since i got my phone 2 weeks ago. So far the best. I tried Diet rom too, but it was a little skinny for me (lol?).
I tried AOKP today and I had used AOKP on my Atrix before, but I went back to TuchMis3x right away because its so far the best. Stable, Battery is insane too!
I'm just waiting for CM10 to fully come out for our phones and i'll make the switch!
Sooo, I switched from TuchMi to AOKP, and right after, my battery starts to drain. Drained about 5% within 2min. Running TuchMi, my battery barely moves. Now I'd have to say that it is successfully the best ROM imo. only problems are: my Google account syncs on and off with contacts, and sometimes i get a blue screen fracture. idk.

If your battery drained that fast then something is wrong. Almost 11 hours on battery with 2 hours of screen time, lte on all day and wifi on past 3 hours and I am sitting at 62% right now. I am on aokp ics right now. Only thing keeping me from newer updates is that HBO go doesn't work in any of the cm10 based in roms yet that I know of
I would also like to point out that it takes several battery cycles before a rom fully settles in and you find out how it truly performs with battery.

Thanks for that. Like I said, I'm new to this so I didn't know what was going on, so the first thing that came to my mind was to go back. Now I just flashed the AOKP jb ROM. The AOKP that i had before was the CM9 based one i believe? lol. Either way, thanks man. added a little more confidence for me lol.
Jellybro from Euroskank the best one for my needs. not the last one though. 2 days battery, butter smooth, love the Jelly aesthetics and simplicity.
When the bugs are worked out of paranoid android I would say give that a run. The ability to run phone and tablet on one device together flawlessly is great. Plus you ave full control over the size of all apps and the such.
JellyBro is my top pick, then would be a stock ROM ([ROM]{??/??/????}TEAM_INSOMNIA PrEsEnTs ARISTODEMOS) and after that I'd say AOKP CM9 based for EXTREMELY long battery life.
been using cm9 for a few days, perfectly stable so far and great battery life. Can't beat stock ics
Blazer
I have been on Blazer O/C with the Kalagas mixed ICS Theme and love it. Seems all the stock based ROMS are fine with some nice tweaks
