[Q] Preloaded Swype - Samsung Epic 4G Touch

Hi, I was wondering how I can uninstall the preloaded version of Swype that came with the E4GT? I want to use the Beta version, but my phone says it can't install it on phones that come with Swype preloaded. Thanks.
I am rooted running Calk ROM 2.6

You can use Root Explorer if you are rooted.
https://market.android.com/details?...sImNvbS5zcGVlZHNvZnR3YXJlLnJvb3RleHBsb3JlciJd
Click on app, click on system, click on app. At the top right click on "Mount R/W". Near the bottom you will find the file swype.apk. Long press on it and click delete.
It is not a free app, but many will agree, it is a necessary app that you will use all the time.

I also use LauncherPro so I can "hide" all those apps I don't want, and now my drawer has no junk in it.

This app has a service that starts up when you reboot. Yes, it doesn't remove the app, but it stops it from starting up the service and it is no longer accessible from the app drawer. In fact, when I did this trick, the icon didn't immediately go away from the LP app drawer, and I tried accessing it again. It was no longer usable.
Even if it's not freed up from the device, it's essentially dead.
Brand new getting my first 10 posts in so THANKS to OP for this tip.

Indeed I wanted the alarm clock. For some reason the apk you provided doesn't install though.. any idea why?
More details: I used rom toolbox to delete "digital clock" because I am using "beautiful widgets" and I didn't think I needed the digital clock that acts as the stock clock widget. Didn't realize that I was deleting the alarm clock with it.

well, take this as you will, i myself would just reflash the rom or restore data from my latest backup. ymmv of course. i have been lucky with this phone so far and everything has been going accordingly. i know many others have not had the same results as me. as far as clock apps, there are a ton on the market. good luck!!!
You could also just reflash the theme you're on if you're using one. As long as it came with the app included. I even attempted to adb push it and although it reappeared under /system/app, I couldn't get it to pop back up in the app drawer. I guess it could also be a touchwiz issue and how it may be built in but just a wild guess.

You need to make sure that you have the latest busy box installed. For me, root didn't work properly until I did that. It really is a great file explorer for the nexus, being that our screen is large and I love the drag and drop.

I can't get root access files with this file manager so its fairly useless but it looks pretty I guess just not practical, went back to root explorer an es file explorer an yes I have latest busybox as most root apps need it :screwy:
Best looking file explorer app, but depending on the ROM I'm running I can't get root access because the ROM is using a custom busybox. This is the only app I ever have this issue with unfortunately.

Yep, I know how to get the SU dialog to pop up, but another message saying Busybox needed to be updated would always come up as well, depending on the ROM I was on at the time. Just letting others know.

Edit: Yeh, this thing is the shizz. If I don't run into any root issues I think I'll keep it.
Edit 2: Spoke too soon. It FC'd while doing a moderately large move of about 90 small files. Sure is pretty but I need something I can depend on. Back to homely old Total Commander...

For root stuff, i use root explorer and for basic stuff, i Use Solid. Gotta say that the UI is incredibly nice. but remember guys and gals, its still in beta form. hit the dev and "telem!"

Not necessarily true... I side loaded both these apps just fine in EsFile Explorer. Try going into recovery and fixing permisions and clear cache/dalvik, bet you already have install from unknown sources checked, but double check just in case. But in the later, it would prompt for you to change it when attempting to install :/

Yes, install button going disabled is a bug in android systems, not just Lux, or because of any other brightness reducer app!
If u have any brightness reducer app, it results in disabling the install button for installing any saved app(apps from playstore install without any problem).
Disabling this app will enable the "install" button.
