For some internal softwares such as "Finance/Listen/music..." may not be used, I want to delete these softwares. But I can't find the way or app to do it. How can I do?
Thanks!
If you are rooted, go to market and get a file explorer for root. You can access system files. Make sure the fike explorer has su permissions and once in file manager you mount from ro to rw and go to system / app. I use root explorer. Hope this helps. Titanium Backup easiest. It has an uninstall feature.

Yeah just to simplify the other guy's response just use titanium backup. Then go to the backup/restore tab, find the finance app, then tap it and select uninstall. It's that easy

In my experiences, I'd say that disabling the app would be a better option. I only say this because the recent OTA update wouldn't go because Google Goggles was completely uninstalled and there was no way for me to force the installation. I ended up jumping through hoops and balancing a ball on my nose to get the app re-installed so that the update would be clean.
In short, you might run into issues in future updates, should there be any, if you uninstall apps. If you don't want it shown or running, disabling it won't run the service and the icon disappears. Besides, the amount of disk space you gain from removing it is incredibly small.
while i agree that disabling the apps was best when we didn't have perm root, now we can write to /system so if an update comes out we can just put the apps back and apply, or wait a few hours and get a rooted update with all the stuff we need from the OTA and we don't have to worry about stuff not working because app X was removed
Hey, I literaly just craeted this account so call me a noob if you will. Now, the closest thing to rooting was jailbreaking for me so I'm not a complete nub at computers. Anyways, I wanna temproot but since visionary was taken from the market, idk what version (ex. R13) to use. Will the version matter with the ota update? Cause I REALLY REALLY don't wanna screw up my g2 as I just got it today via amazon wireless. And also, is there any free WIRELESS TETHERING as in not usb or pda net, but as a hotspot without tmo charging (I have unlim date) any help appreciated! thanks!
Sent from my T-Mobile G2 using XDA App
just install visionary.apk using the manual install method, you can use adb to push it to your sd card or use the much easier approach and stick it on your sd card via usb connection then open it with a file browser of your choice on the phone. There is also a wifi tether/bluetooth tether app that has been around for a while that you can find more info on here http://code.google.com/p/android-wifi-tether/
Best of luck!
just a side note: I don't know if tmobile is actually charging for this tether service. I was never informed of a charge for it besides the hype on these forums and have been using the OTA (over the air) update that included it and have seen no change in my billing.
Welcome to android!
In the do not post non-development related questions in the appropriate forum. Since you're new and all I'll let it slide without getting too mad. I'll put this as simple as it gets.
1. DOWNLOAD this file onto your computer.
2.Hook up your USB calble, pull down the notification bar, select usb storage, and hit mount.
3. Open up your computer's download folder and find the apk (app) you just downloaded, and drag it onto the root of your sdcard.
4. Unmount storage and unplug USB.
5. Hit home button, then go to menu -> settings -> applications -> check unknown sources (to install from sdcard), then go to development -> check USB debugging
5. Go to your market and download a file manager. There's a lot of choices in there, so I recommend maybe astro or linda file managers.
5. Open your file manager, open your sdcard folder (it might default to there), navigate to where the app is and select it.
6. It will ask wether you want to install. Select yes of course and let it do its thing.
7. Open the visionary app itself, and hit Temproot now. It will take a minute.
8. You should be rooted now! If you want to install the tether app, just do the same thing again with the link dietotherhythm provided. Put app on sdcard, open file manager, install, tether. You will be asked for SU permissions on the tether app, just select remember and okay (you'll see what i mean when you open the app). I suggest you look at some of the guides on how to set up ADB and such, and when you're familiar enough you do the permaroot and install one of the custom roms (cyanogen is amazing, sense has a different UI, etc). GL lol
Ok thanks so much! I haven't been on android since my g1 a year ago. Anyways, will the ota have any effect on overclocking? Because i ve read that the kernal and stuf are different, needing a new script or something. Or can I just download set cpu and am I good to go? Also does this temproot have any chance of bricking my phone? Thanks again for your help!
PS: and at dietotherythm, are you not being charged for the wireless hotspot feature in the settings?
Sent from my T-Mobile G2 using XDA App
Temp root is safe. Do NOT perm root with visionary, there is a chance of bricking with that. When your ready to perm root use rage via the sticky on here.
As far as oc, you just need to use the module for the OTA kernel. Run the script, then use setcpu. Once your perm root, you have much more oc/uv/ov options.
Ok thanks! But with temprooting, do I need to unroot before I turn my phone off or is it ok to just turn it off and reroot when I turn it back on? And can I use z4 root from the market?
Sent from my T-Mobile G2 using XDA App
Don't know about this z4 of which you speak.. I'm already rooted. (I actually used Visionary but had done a manual temp root so mine sort of had a combination of methods used. LOL)
As for your other question, NO you don't have to unroot before rebooting/powering down you phone. You just shut it off like normal and when it reboots, root is gone until you temp root again.
I have an Evo on Boost Mobile. I am currently on VR Kingdom B1.1.2
rom and I noticed that voicemail notification is working which doesnt work on stock rom. Is there any way i can get it to work on stok rom. Is there something I can port over from this rom to the stock rom in order to make the voicemail notification to work? Please help.........
Was it a stock rooted rom or the one that came with the phone?
It was a stock rooted rom but voicemail notification has never worked since It was flashed to boost on the stock rom that came with the phone. If you know of a fix for this plz help.
My guess is that the vr rom has removed the sprint or htc bloatware that was controlling your vm notifications. I get vm notification on cm7. Stock sprint roms are too dependant on sprint service to work well on boost.
Sent from my PC36100 using XDA App
So is there anything i can do or do i just have to keep calling my vm daily...lol. Also thanks for the quick responses.
I use voicemail notifier from the market & works great for me. As an alternate solution, you can set up a google voice account set with your cell number.
Sent from my Rooted Evo running Metrodroid 2.2 on Metro PCS
found it!
I knew I had a stock voicemail notification on one of the stock roms!
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1038701(huge thanks to xHausx for cooking the ROM!!!!!) I tested with the odexed version, so let me know if the deodexed one works or not.
Install that rom and be sure to remount /system as read/write
(I use file expert, first turn on root in file expert > menu > more > settings > file explorer settings > Root Explorer is checked. Then navigate to /system/app and hit menu > more > mount > mount as Read Write. If you have Root Explorer you should have a button when you are in /system/app)
Next delete vtt-sprint_v5_1_60.apk and restart your phone.
When the phone reboots call yourself and leave a VM You should get a VM notification after you are done leaving a VM (be sure to leave a lengthy vm just to make sure the vm is counted)
This works great for me!
If this doesn't work just get Google Voice and use it for your VM service, I have also done this and found it to be great.
Google Voice
I am using htc evo 4g on boost, but i am trying to use google voice as my voicemail notification but i can't get this working, can u help me with that? tutorial in here will be great!!!! thanks any way
Voicemail Notifier isn't on the market anymore, so if you have the apk, that would be awesome.
Thanks.

Any new links for the Htc evo 4g Version odexed 4.22.651.2? Links are down or if anyone has other links?
Try google voice its awesome, it will give you VM notifications and it'll also send them to your email if you aren't at your phone but are at your computer. You can also adjust the settings on line at your computer it's great.
I already use Google voice for a separate number. I need voicemails from my main number.
you can merge google voice with your sprint #
Please note that this is NOT my guide, I just simplified it into very easy terms and instructions, but original is by the great WarLockW
Steps to take:
01. Have a T-Mobile T889 Samsung Galaxy Note 2
02. Download these files: http://forum.xda-developers.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=1446771&d=1351716949
03. Extract files to folder on Desktop
04. Root your T-Mobile T889 Samsung Galaxy Note 2
05. Once rooted, make a COMPLETE backup using CWM or Titanium Backup (I did BOTH just in case, I like to be double sure I have a backup)
06. Once backed up, go to Google Play Market and download "APN Backup & Restore"
07. Once installed, open APN Backup & Restore and press on "OK" on the warning message that comes up
08. Close APN Backup & Restore (from task manager too, just in case)
09. Open Titanium Backup and press on Backup/Restore
10. Find the application "APN Backup & Restore" and long press with your finger on it
11. Once menu comes up, press on "Convert to System App"
12. Once done, close Titanium Backup (from task manager too, just in case)
13. Open APN Backup & Restore and press on "OK" on the warning Message that comes up
14. Press on the menu button on the phone and press on "Disable ICS Check"
15. Close APN Backup & Restore (from task manager too, just in case)
16. Open APN Backup & Restore and press on "Backup APNs"
17. Select a name or leave the one in there
18. Once backed up, close APN Backup & Restore (from task manager too, just in case)
19. Connect your phone to your computer
20. Once connected, navigate to your phone drive in My Computer and go to "Phone > ApnBackupRestore" > Copy the created XML file to your computer (once again, just in case)
21. While still in the "Phone > ApnBackupRestore" folder copy/cut/paste the "T-Mobile-APN.xml" file to that folder
22. Once the file has been copied to the "Phone > ApnBackupRestore" folder, open up APN Backup & Restore application on your phone
23. Once open, press on "Delete APNs" and press "Yes"
24. Once deleted, press on "Restore APNs" and select the T-Mobile-APN.xml (the one we originally copies from the zip folder that needed to be downloaded/extracted to a folder on your Desktop, and press "OK"
25. It will then restore the newly modified APN file
26. Close APN Backup & Restore (from task manager too, just in case)
27. Go to Google Play Market and download "Tethering Widget"
28. Once installed, go to the APPS icon on your phone and select Widgets tab on top and drag the Tethering Widget to a new page
29. You should now be able to successfully enable native tethering via the Widget
30. MISSION COMPLETE
*NOTE: DO NOT GO INTO THE ACTUAL T-MOBILE HOTSPOT APPLICATION AS IT WILL OVERWRITE THE APNS AND TETHERING WILL NO LONGER WORK. IF THAT HAPPENS, REPEAT STEPS 23-30.
Please let me know if I have missed anything. Alot of these steps are self explanitory but I have had issues with this the past day, but I finally got it to work so I wanted to share every step in an ultra-easy fashion
Isn't this the same step as WarlockW instructed?

Indeed, but it is modified a bit since "insecure boot.img" is not required, but I totally did forget to credit him. Original post has been updated. Sorry guys, mean no disrespect nor tying to take credit for anyone elses work.
Thanks so much. I'm typing on my tablet tethering from my phone. It's working great so far.

I believe so, just make sure you have ROOT already done and if you have Root Explorer, I suggest just copy the contents of the download zip file on to your sd card and you can go through there, as long as you have all the files, you should be able to if I am not mistaken. I am pretty computer savvy, but I have been out of the android world for a few years, coming from an iphone 4, so this is sort of all new to me, but i do believe you should be good to go without a computer. The zip file contains the T-Mobile-APN.xml along with the APK so you should have it all
The quick and dirty is. Grab tmobile.xml from the OP.
Install APN backup.
move APN backup to /system/app from /data/app. You can do this by moving and changing permissions to 644. then rebooting. //don't titanium pro
delete all apns, after backing up. And restore the one from the OP.
Use settings>mobile hotspot and enable hotspot.
do u need titanium backup pro for this? or just free version?
Edit: ok nvm got stuck at the system app step with just the free version..
Yes, that feature is part of the PRO version.

Tried the original post, tried this version as well, not working for me.
Oh well, hope there's another solution sometimes soon.
thans man this works great
great instructions, it almost made me feel i was following a teacher in school hahaahahaha.
Works 100% for me. Thanks!!!!
LOL to the teacher comment haha
I figured it would be best to explain it as if I am explaining to a n00b as myself =D
But main solutions credit goes to WarlockW once again hehe
Wish we had this for the sprint version.

If you got it to work but need to change the password of the hotspot now
go to the notification bar, go into the hotspot settings
do not click on On/Off (it should now be on from the widget)
click on the Hotspot name (Mine was Samsung Galaxy Note II 13)
Then click on Configure (lower right)
and in there you can set the password to be whatever you want
save settings
and you should be good.
Another Question?

I did that as well, turn security off and logged in but it directed me to Tmobile page asking me to do an upgrade on my plan for tethering and using their hotspots, so I just went back to my wifi instead.
Is there a way to bypass that page and go straight to surfing and etc.?

Go through steps 23-30 again, delete the APNs and restore the T-Mobile-APN.xml file from the original zip.
I removed this "widget" without backup because I incorrectly assumed it was one of those widgets you put on the home screen. Anyways my settings app is bricked (I get "Unfortunately settings has stopped working" whenever trying to open settings) and after digging around on google I found removing com.lge.sui.widget is the issue.
Is there anyway I can restore this dependency? I have a stock backup on my computer that I'd rather avoid using it if possible.
Alternatively, is there any way I can change input methods without going through settings? I cannot enable any new keyboards because they require me to go through the settings > language & input service, which causes an error message whenever I try to access it directly or through my keyboard apps. However I can switch between the keyboards I currently have enabled just fine.
I found a 3rd party app that changes wifi settings without going through the settings app, is there any similar app for enabling keyboards? If there was such an app, I wouldn't need to go through settings for anything else saving me the trouble of finding this com.lge.sui.widget or reinstalling android.
My phone is LG D850 (G3)
Just flash the kdz again without the wipe option, is the only way.. I made that error in my G2 and g3
Downlod .zip file of your ROM, copy .apk to location and set its permissions. Then reboot your phone and it should work.
