I can not seem to root my MTS due to the fact that every version of ESPRIMG.zip that i find seems to give me this error message " Main Version is older! Update Fail!" And then I just reboot it. Is there a specific version of the zip file that I need?
I am using the guide from the unlocker
Try this method of rooting: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1245086 . Seems to be the best way to get root, follow just as instructions say & you should be fine. The biggest thing is doing this in the right order, thats why your getting your problem now. Let me know if it works because I'm thinking about unrooting my phone and trying something to try to get s-off. Good luck & I hope it works for ya!!
Thanks for the reply, but I still get the same error message

yes i have.i tried using the ruu's but i keep getting an error saying wrong bootloader.i dont know what else to do.
If you don't care about losing root, use the 2.2 unofficial RUU file and see if that works.
where do i find that?
i found it but not sure if i wanna lose root.i just wanna be able to flash cyanogen mod.it wont let me but i can flash any other rom..i keep getting an error when flashing rom in recovery.something about bootloader.anybody have any ideas as to why i keep getting that error?

This is how I was able to unroot:
1. Ran the 1 Click SimpleRoot OTA 1.47.651.1 Edition root program. This downgraded my evo to 1.17.651.1 while still mainting HBOOT .76.2000 (this is very important!)
2. Downloaded one of the RUU files (RUU_Supersonic_1.32.651.6_Radio_1.39.00.05.31_release_171253_signed.exe), connected my evo and launched the update . Ensure you have the latest HTCSync software installed before running the program. I used version 2.0.40
I successfully unrooted my phone, and rooted it back to 1.47.xxx just as an academic exercise.
This should work for you. Also search the forum, there's a ton of info (albeit disorganized) on how to do this.

That's where I run into problems.my hboot is .79.000. I use the ruu and i get errors about wrong bootloader.and simpleroot doesn't work.the step where u type in the website doesn't work.i get a blue Lego block with a question mark.
Which version of SimpleRoot are you using? I used the most recent version of the app (the latest has just 2 buttons NOT 4). Make sure after downloading to use the update option to check for updates. For some strange reason, the Simpleroot app is able to downgrade your HBOOT to .76.2000 (I couldn't achieve that by manually completing steps 1 & 2 of Toastchf method AND running the RUU - it always came up with that error UNTIL I resorted to the SimpleRoot method.) Maybe someone else can chime in. Anyways, give it a try.
Hello,
I have been having trouble with my phone for weeks now. Back in August I used Unrevoked to root my Droid Incredible. Everything worked fine.
But now, I need to update my radio firmware before I can effectively use any of the custom ROMs. I am still using version 1.00xxx of the radio software, and if I try to install any of the custom ROMs my GPS stops working. So I have repeatedly tried to update the radio. I download the ZIP file and try to install (after backing up, of course). I get the error "no image or wrong image" and the update won't install.
So I have tried to reformat my SD card using FAT32. Same error. I do not rename the ZIP file or do anything dumb like that.
Next I tried to unroot my phone. It is my understanding that these updates are actually a binary diff, so the right base version must be installed in order to do the update. When I tried to unroot using the stock version of the ROM, I get the same error. So at least my phone still works, but I cannot do any updates.
I have searched all the forums and have read that many people seem to have this problem. But there are no solutions that I have not tried.
Any suggestions? I would *really* appreciate any pointers.
AE
Bump
Any suggestions?
To begin with, are you s-off?
No. I was just thinking about doing that. I read the unrevoked forever site, and it seemed to indicate that there might be some kind of locking going on which is why the updates won't install. Is that the right thing to do?
I will follow those instructions and post again if there are difficulties.
Thanks for the response.

Just curious but can't you just run the RUU?

Therein lies your problem. You must be s-off in order to do what you're trying to do.

Just wanted to get this out there. I have been trying to root all night with no luck. Hoping others with same issue will come for an offer help. Free evo accessory for anyone that can get this solved for me.
You need to provide a few more details what you've done to try and achieve root. What method did you try? What are seeing on the screen at the various steps.
I used the long method listed Here. If you're using the .exe file in the other thread, its not as reliable.
I am having the sane issue. I have tried regaw's method, the manual method listed in the hboot S-off thread, and the automated method in the other hboot thread. Everything works except flashing pc36img.zip....it throws the error he mentioned when updating radio v2, plus it throws fail-ic when trying to update bootloader (it does not say "bootloader skipped" as indicated it should in the guide). From this point forward, it will not boot past white HTC splash w/o running ruu. You can even do the rest of the guide and get a custom recovery flashed (i have done both amon-ra, and clockwork). After running ruu, S-off sticks (meaning unrevoked worked, I suppose), but you obviously don't have root. If you try to flash a custom Rom, even just a rooted version of the ruu, it throws a symlink error (something like E:fail can't symlink bin/lsmod....can't remember exact syntax, I posted it in another thread though, I'll see if u can find it). I have tried doing this from custom recovery and from toast's pc-based recovery. Is there a way for me to pull a log of what is happening when the pc36img has its errors? That may be the only way for me to give you more info than I have.

i followed the manual method, it failed with the radio pu, i completed the method, my phone would not boot it was stuck at the "htc evo" screen. So after some research I found the correct file to make my phone boot, The manual steps worked and i rotted my phone but i am unable to put a custom rom on
dl this file rename it pc36img and push it to you phone and reboot in the hboot and let it install it should pass you will have root access and clockworks custom recovery but until someone fixes the roms or gives a answer they wont work they will fail but you will have a phone and root admin.

I used Method 3 from this zikronix's [TOOL][GUIDE] HBoot 2.02 S-OFF thread. Everything works great until I have to flash PC36IMG. It starts but gives the Radio-V2 Fail-PU and Bootloader-Fail-IC. The screen shows updated failed. Upon restart I'm at the red triangle boot screen. Can't do anything else from there.

I don't see what this will do for me since I don't have S-Off status yet. I can't get that far. Plus, this isn't a comeplete root. I have another Evo here that has the exact same specs, right down to Hardware 003 and I just did the Method 3 root and it went through with flying colors. So...

I think it is the bad blocks issue popping up again. I read about it in toast's root thread, I believe. If I am right, toast figured out a fix before. We may have to find a way to use his fix again. It was for a different bootloader, though. Might not work straight out of the box. I'm no dev, but this seems to me to be what is happening.
tejasrichard, i didnt know you got an Evo.
Come see us in #HTC-EVO on irc.freenode.net
Alot of devs hang out in irc so you guys might be able to get help there.
Use clockwork.
For some reason, amon ra doesn't work right away. You'll get fail-pu with it.

Sup Otis! Yeah, I finally got my upgrade, lol! I'm a little late to the party, but better late than never, right? I'll stop by tomorrow and say hi (promised the missus some quality time tonight). I've got a few more things I want to try, but I'm betting whatever toast did b4 to get around the bad blocks will work again. Need to pm him and see what he thinks.
basically i woke up today and saw an software update for my desire on the screen and still in my half asleep state forgot that i had de-branded phone and needed to use the goldcard to update. Anyway everything is fine except the wifi will no longer work is there anyway around this or to fix it?
As far as i am aware, to solve this problem, you need to reinstall the patch manually but this time using your Gold Card. (Yes you forget to use one on your unbranded phone... this could be the source of the wifi error)
1.) Re-use your old or create a new Gold Card
2.) Download the patch 2.10.405.2 manually
[ota] htc eu 2.10.405.2 - 2.09.405.8 - xda-developers
3.) Rename the OTA_Bravo_HTC_EU_2.10.405.2-2.09.405.8_releaseol2djq7rqarka2ka.zip file to update.zip and copy it to the root of your Gold Card
3.) Reboot in recovery mode with your Gold Card inside and select the install:update.zip file as explained in the froyo guide
How to update and install Android 2.2 (Froyo) on Nexus One (works for Desie also) – SoftSailor
4.) Reboot
5.) Hopefully works now.
Remember: Next time use your Gold Card before updating the software
i know rookie mistake right. I will do that and hopefully all will be well with my phone again.
edit: sorted
yeh that guide hasnt worked for me, the 6th step on the second guide im just getting E:error in sdcard/update.zip (status 7) installation aborted.
ive checked all the comments and made sure i haven't called it zip.zip or anything like that.
Are you sure you got the complete file.
And also, what is your software number, if it's 2.29.405.2, you probably get this error because of the older update that MasDroid linked (2.10.405.2)
I reckon if it now says 2.29.405.2 download the OTA for 2.29.405.2 and reapply it.
yeh i just realised i left out the major detail, which was its not 2.2 i was downloading it was the OTA firmware update 2.29.405.2
ive tried searching for it again with the goldcard in but it cant find anything, i also cant find an update anywhere online available for download.
Here it is, you may use a download client or just double check that you got the whole file (sometimes the downloads get interrupted)

Sorry about posting the older version of the ota rom, i should have put in a link to the most current FroYo version. Glad the fellas above put in the correct link, cheers for that guys
Sent from my HTC Desire using XDA App

Here is an easy step by step method thats about as easy as it gets:

Im not looking to root just want to restore my phone. Can someone please help me?
Try to download and install an official RUU then. Pick the build version that matched the build of your phone before you tried rooting....assuming it might be 3.30.651.3?? since your HBOOT is 2.02.
Supersonic Shipped ROMs
EDIT: You followed the steps in post 1 of that root method thread right? I didn't see it mention anything about continuing if you encountered errors?? But if you said you wiped the phone and the ROM didn't load properly, then you prob don't have a ROM installed and encountered errors during root...you might also not be NAND unlocked. So if you can run the RUU, it should put you back to stock.
i have tried the ruu and it keeps saying my bat is less then %30 when its not.
