Dialer - Samsung Galaxy Nexus

I'm quite annoyed but the dialer in stock ics.
Are there no options to list the contacts as I type in a number?
For example. If I type 123, i want the phone number 123456 to pop up.
This has been available for every basic/smartphone I owned until now. Its quite a surprise that I can't seem to enable in ics.
So my question is
1. Is there an option somewhere that enables it?
2. If the answer is no to the first question. Can anyone recommend any 3rd party dialer that has the option? Thank you

I'm not sure if there is an option but I believe go dialer with go contacts will do that.

I'm using touch pal dialer. It is great. A lot like the old Motorola dialer on my x.

I echo that, big thumbs up for Touch Pal its fast too.

In the theme and app section there is a mod for this. I used it and it works perfectly.

Ex dialer if the mood doesn't work on stock rom

I agree. While the dialer looks cool, function wise it sucks. You also cant filter incoming/missed/out going calls

Send contact info from within SMS

Is anyone else annoyed that you can't send a contact from the stock SMS app? I love the standard SMS but yet have to have a third party SMS app installed just for this purpose. From the stock SMS you can attach a few things but not a contact. And even from the phone app you can send but through email...not SMS.
Nothing major...just felt like griping about something I guess.
On a side note android keeps getting better and better. I don't see myself even going back to a non nexus phone!

I totally agree it's silly this is not factory android option. I can tell this is a general complaint and you weren't really looking for an app, but check this out:
share contracts via sms

it's not really an "app" it just adds the menu option to share contracts thru messaging app. you still use stock messaging. I have used this since froyo days. it's super lightweight, you'll hardly notice it's even there...

Yup, I've been shocked time and time again that it hasn't already been added since I first started using Android with Froyo.
Which is weird if you've been using dumbphones for the last 15 years I think most of them could do this.

[Q] Multiple contacts

I have recently switched over to the modded stock messaging app from handcent and it works great. The only thing I cant figure out is how to select multiple contacts. I know you can type in each individual name for a group mms or multiple sms, but is there a way to have a scroll list and select contacts?

Open a new message and in the "to" field there are a plus button.
If you press that one you get a list with checkboxes

Oh, didn't see you used a modded one.
But Why not use the one from play store? It has theming support.

Which one is in the play store? I used to use handcent but it gets real laggy and is a little bit buggy on Liquidsmooth 3.1 beta (the popup doesnt move for the keyboard and gets overlapped.)
I am using this one: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=37125484#post37125484
It has everythingI want except for the way to select multiple contacts. What I am looking for is minimalism, group MMS functionality, and popup window. Does the one in the Market have it?

Basically.
Not sure exactly what you mean with minimalism.
But why not try it
I can also recommend go sms.
There you can choose how many of the features you want to use

[Q] what's everyone using for an sms app?

Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I317 using Tapatalk 2
GoSMS w/ the emoji plugin.
I heard you get a lot of spam with that app?
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I317 using Tapatalk 2
I get a message or two month. Usually about a new theme they've added or some feature they've updated. Nothing intrusive, or annoying and its usually just a notification in that app that is quickly deleted.
I've been using it for about a year.

I like handcent...not sure what the downsides are to handcent compared to the others. I did try gosms a while back and wasn't impressed. I could give it another shot though.
I really don't have a lot of requirements for a messaging app. I don't do groups or advanced messaging. Even so, I find the stock messaging app extremely unappealing and not adequate for my minor needs.
Handcent here. Been using it since my original Droid days I think. Just fell in love with it. The only other messaging app that I didn't much mind was the stock one on my Galaxy Note 2, but I've since fallen back to the familiar. I find it functional and customizable enough for my tastes.

Handscent here as well... with the group messaging plug-in... got rid of the Emoji plug-in due to it messing with my MMS for some reason... maybe a combination of the two... Main reason I got Handscent was the color customization to match my theme.
I have been using Trillian since the before android. It has been the best way to monitor all my IMs. Different customers all like different IM services and this way I could cover them all.

Default. I used to use go but it got too bloated for my liking and then they disabled backing up of sms to local storage and pushed their cloud backup.

I tried most mostly because there seems to be a growing requirement for emoji. pffft.
All non stock apps except for chomp scroll very poorly when moving and reading through the messages: go, handsent, etc. Chomp is the only one that scrolls smoothly. However, I cannot attach pics or vids - it crashes. contacting the developer said "fixing hopefully in a week" until then I just use stock app o if I need to send a mms. I'd use the stock app but its emoji is very limited. always a compromise isn't it?
Pansi SMS nice simple interface. I use my backup root to save MMS and sms

Thought I was the only one on this. I've been using bitesms on Iphones for years so I've been so used to it, so when I jumped ship and go with the GN2 naturally I had to find somethign similiar. You're right about mms though, but I use stock sms app for that purpose, so chompsms all the way.
Go sms with emoji plug in. Like all the different emojis. Also wife has iphone with ios6 and stock messaging wouldn't show pics of the emojis on her phone. Go sms shows with no problem.

Just wanted to give you guys an update. I have been using chomp sms for the past couple of days and love it. It's not as flashy as go sms is with themes but it make up for it without the constant text messages they send you. I also donated to the dev which got rid of the adds so it almost feels like a stock app. Anyways its a really great app if any of you are interested.

SMS/MMS Client

What is your client of choice? I need a pop-up window that does not get blocked by Swype keyboard. I use go sms but it makes my pictures taken in portrait mode rotate to landscape mode.
Any ideas?
Thanks!

I stick with default
I love the 90s. Good times.
I stick with the stock messaging app. What's wrong with it? Works just fine.
I use the default client but I had tried Sliding Messaging Pro for a couple of days and I loved it. Was going to keep it until I realized I can't add pictures to my texts with it. Dropped it right then and there. What a shame. Could be a perfect sms app with that (and it's a basic freaking feature).

I've been using Handcent for almost three years. Still happy with it.
At the time, the default app didn't have custom ringtones. Dunno if they ever fixed that.
Also, I despise the "talk balloon" theme. Dunno why, but it grates on my nerves, bad. Again, Handcent gives me control over that. I set it up back then and it has carried over through a phone upgrade and a recent cracked screen replacement.
Handcent was top dog when I installed it. Haven't seen any need to switch away since. It Just Works.
SMS Pop-up is a separate app, available on Google Play. It works well, but make sure you disable notifications in the stock app to avoid duplicate alerts. I've also used Handcent in the past - it's feature rich, but too bloated for me. Right now I'm using the stock messaging app in the LiquidSmooth rom. It has built in pop-up.

SMS App's???

Do you use the default built in one or another?
I was using samsung's default sms app but just went back to what I was using on my dell streak which is Go SMS Pro.
For some odd reason every once in awhile my default sms would sometimes freak out and show no messages at all until I restarted then a lot of messages would be missing after I restarted.
Hoping that Go SMS Add's a split view like the default sms.
I use handcent sms and have never had any issues... used handcent on all 5 Android devices that I have owned....

I'm using a combination of default and Fusion Messenger. Fusion is in beta and gets an update almost every day but it is coming along very well. Yesterday I finally decided to use it as my main app. It's missing MMS at the moment but that is next on the list. After that Google Talk will be added.
I've tried lots of messaging apps but always come back to stock.

I use messaging + goggle voice in the app store. Paid app but same feel as stock and incorporates google voice texts. I hated using the gv app to text and wanted them all in one place. I use google voice for my personal line and the carrier line for work. This solved both problems and let me keep the look and feel of stock.

I think it does bother him. This is the 3rd thread that he bumps up saying the same thing.
Apparently if it's a question in any way shape or form then is in the wrong place to him!
Even if its a question pertaining to apps or themes and which ones you use or why...
