$10/15 MediaNet Data Plan for At&t - Samsung Galaxy Nexus

Does anyone have this for at&t? If so were you able to use the dumbphone MediaNet data plan for it? I am able to use this with the Galaxy SII i9100 and still get H+ download speeds. Wondering if At&t has the Galaxy Nexus' IMEIs in their sweeps. Any help would be appreciated.

It should work, since I have the option to select the $30 data/sms plan for non-smartphones. And that's with AT&T scanning my IMEI at the time of activation since I was coming over from Verizon.

Thanks for your input fr4c. Anyone specifically using the $10 or $15 MediaNet plan??

[Q] Anyone using Net10 or StraightTalk w a T989?

I notice that net10 has a SIM card that might actually work with our T989s.
Ditto Straight Talk.
Net10 has an an everything "unlimited*" plan for $50/mo.
StraightTalk the same for $45/mo.
These may or may not be better than the T-Mobile BYOD plans depending on a couple of things - which I'd love to know.
1) Does it work with a T989? (if it doesn't, stop right there, I don't need any other info)
2) What kind of data rates? Edge? HSPA? HSPA+?
3) What does the all important '*' in "unlimited*" mean, exactly? Throttled at some limit? Cut off? What's the limit?
4) Coverage area? Are they just using the T-mobile network? It sounds like it, BUT there's a line in the smaller print In order for your phone's data services to work, you must update your APN data settings, also called the Access Point Name.
Anybody know?
Other than the "does it work with a T989?" Q, i could ask this in another forum - but where? Anyone got a notion of that?
Thanks for any info!
There's an everything unlimited plan for $50/mo. Yes, I know t-mob has a similar deal - but it's for families - similar for me would be $69/mo
Why don't you try simple mobile they work pretty well 60 bucks flat with 2gig at 4g then throttle unl text and talk,

Sounds reasonable, and might be exactly the right choice, depending on what's in the $45 package. If it's the same, or a (gasp) higher limit, then, well, it's not.
Seems like the only way to know to either ask, and if that doesn't work, try it for a month...
Turns out it's a real deal.
Info at Howard Forum
Looks to be, essentially, either T-mo's $60 or $70 plan (throttle cap isn't published and several folks are reporting using more than 2G with no warning / throttling, so who knows?), but minus tethering (assuming t-mo's OK with tethering on those plans, which I think they might be)... for $45 or $50
BTW, they're both tracfone. ST is associated with Walmart, Net10 with a bunch of other retailers.
There's a t-mob sim and an att sim. Plans cost the same, so, given that a T989, once unlocked, can work on either network (I think that's true based on info from this forum), so we have a choice.
Just to followup: I'm using the StraightTalk SIM in my T989. i had a choice of networks, and went with AT&T because with T-mob 90% of the time I only had EDGE and what appeared to be no data roaming with my Tmob prepaid plan
ST is $45/mo for unlimited voice, text, and sort-of unlimited data (this is the only weird part: ST is being mum about what the limit actually is. From posts at HowardForum it appears to me a 100 to 120 M / day limit, probably as a result of the data volume tracking tech they have.)
That's on At&T. Nobody's run into a limit with T-Mobile yet.
hmm i wonder how they are able to opperate in tmobils network while simultaneously offering a better plan for less. simple mobile cant do it as their $60 unlimited plan is capped at 2gigs of data just like tmobils $60 plan.

I use it.
I posted this in a couple other threads so Ill just copy and paste..
Anyone feel free to ask me any questions.
Hello. I have great news for anyone that wants to use the Tmobile GalaxySII with a better prepaid service.
I bought the T989 new and then bought a Tmobile Sim card for about $15 from StraightTalk.com
I put the new sim in and changed the APN to StraightTalk apn. It works fabulous.
I get full 4g speeds all day 24/7 and the best thing is I get no throttle.
Tmobile tuened me on with there prices but I didnt notice that they throttle there bandwidth to a stupid slow 2g speed after a certain bandwidth usage.
WHY would any company throttle the internet speed with the purpose to have a smart phone is fast internet? The speed went from 4g to 2g. Not 3g. We are talking 56k modem speed. This pissed me off so bad, I went with StraightTalk just 2 weeks after I activated the T989 with Tbobile using there prepaid. Well, not only is Tmobile prepaid $5 more than the StraightTalk service, But the Tmobile service, as I said is very inferior to StraightTalk.
No Im not a representative of either of these companies.
I did allot of research about using this phone with any sim I wanted and compared price vs performace of what I get for the money.
I can tell you that you will not find any prepaid service cheaper and with unlimited everything when using with the T989.
Ive compared ATT, Verizon, Virgin, Boost, Net10. All of um I could find. None were cheaper and none offered so much.
I really wanted to stay with Tmobile, but I gotta tell ay, they sucked. They have a few different so called unlimited plans. The price goes stupid high to like $70 just to get full bandwidth speeds to decent usage. With StraightTalk its always fullbandwidth and the kicker is that they use Tmobile towers!
Its $45 a month.Vs anywhere from 50 to $70 depending on the useage for internet you want.
Check my other thread about the roms Ive used.
Net10
I have net10 with a sgh-t989 which is the titanium samsung galaxy s2 variant of the phone. I use net10 and it works great,on official released stock roms.So far I've to find a custom rom on which it works well,or at all.I unlocked my phone, because at first I had the wrong ATT sim type card for the phone. Then I ordered the T-Mobile sim type and so far it's been working fine on ICS 4.0.3. I had about 5mbps downstream, 1-2 mbps upstream with the ATT type sim card. I found with the ATT sim I never had less than 4 bars service,it was usually 5.But I live in a large city, and as long as I've had this service i've only driven about 70 miles outside that.Still had great service. Not sure how rural areas do though.I am currently looking for a custom rom that meshes well with the unlocked, net10 service.Pac man rom worked.

[Q] T-mobile $5 data plan on T999?

Did anyone try that out yet???
Now epc.t-mobile.com can be used in the Preferred phone first data (t-zone)
I'm thinking about S3 now.

T-mobile galaxy s3 on AT&T?

So I bought a tmobile galaxy s3 because I wanted to do the pre-paid 100 minutes/unlimted text/5gb data 30$/month plan. It turns out this really doesn't work well for me in my area because I'm on edge more than wish I was. Would I be able to put this on AT&T straight talk by chance? I know t-mobile is part of straight talk but there network sucks apparently in my area. Any insight would be appreciated
Yes, but you need to unlock the phone first before you can use it AT&T.

I'm using my T-Mobile galaxy s 3 on at&T postpaid. got it unlocked via an app on Play Store, called UnlockUnit. Paid 24.99 and got my code overnight. I also set it up using the old dumbphone trick, so right now I'm getting UNLIMITED H+ for only $10.00. Speeds are blazing fast.

get a regular sim card. the big one from AT&T store. then call at&t and tell them you are moving back to your old non-smartphone (dumbphone) and would like to get the $10 data plan for non-smartphones.. give them the imei number of that dumbphone. hang up. cut your sim card to microsim and put it in your galaxy s3. you will automatically get H+ speeds for only $10 (will be $15, if you don't have unlimited messaging. I have unlimited messaging on all lines. so its only $10 for my data plan).
jojo may i ask your APN settings? Also, do you get the H+ symbol or just the 3g.

enable mobile hotspot with tmobile unlimited plan (or with at&t prepaid)

I'm still using the 5GB data plan. Has anyone gotten the mobile hotspot to work with the truly unlimited data plan of tmobile? Or even the prepaid go plan of AT&T (i believe both might be disabled the same way?) I cannot confirm on the unlimited tmobile data since I' still on the 5GB plan, and on the AT&T prepaid (50/mo plan for non smartphone) the mobile hotspot cannot be turned on, it just goes back to off when turned on.
Could it be an apn setting? Please advice.
Thanks

AT&T iPhone 4S ---> Note II, without changing data plan?

I want to switch from an iPhone 4S to the note II (international or at&t) by swapping sim cards. Can this be done with data working? I tried it with a galaxy sII skyrocket LTE, and data did not work at all. I expected at least 3G and HSDPA+.
Talked to AT&T and they said I have to change the data plan. But google searches have revealed that I should be able to switch without calling them and at least get 3G/HSDPA data.
Anyone have any insight?

you can get 3g but you won't get lte since the 4S isn't LTE. You just need the correct APNs. Try wap.cingular, or phone. I stopped changing my plan cause I switched too often and hated all the stupid prorations

I'm not understanding your goal. I had an unlimited data plan for my iPhone $30/mo. When I upgraded my phone to SGN2, I now have the data plan for LTE unlimited at $30/mo as a grandfathered data plan.
Of couse this plan is acually throttled now (after 5GB?), but it is, what it is. Same Family phone plan, same price, similar data plan, same price.

I need to do it without changing the plan. I think we have the answer though... change the APN. I will update when I get a chance to try it,
Changing the APN worked. Got HSDPA+. AT&T lied to me, not suprisingly.
Guess I might as well buy the international note II, since I wont be using LTE, unless there is some other advantage to the AT&T note II?
Not really. Just an fyi, if you switch off ios make sure to turn off I message or your friends will see blue before green
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I317 using Tapatalk 2
also even though u are on an unlimited plan my understanding is they will throttle u after a certain ammount.
If it was my money, I wouldn't be using AT&T.
As you've already experienced, AT&T reps are under no obligation to tell you the truth, time and time again. I've swapped my sim between many 3g phones with nary a phone call over the years.
I think the only advantage to getting an AT&T Note 2 is when you migrate to an unlimited LTE plan, you get throttled at 5 gigs instead of 3.
Otherwise, stick with what ya got and stick it to the man!

Not sure if my work around means much to you... but I had a iPhone 4S and got into a Note II and was able to keep my Grandfathered Data plan.
How I did it...
My phone being a 4S was not eligible for an upgrade but my wife's iPhone 4 was. So I used her upgrade to get the Note II and had AT&T do a crossover on the lines. So now my wife has my 4S and I have the Note 2 with the same data packages.
The downside at first was the swap caused our texting plans to dissolve, but in the end AT&T was able to offer me a better deal with unlimited texting and cell calls for $20 less a month. Not sure if it was just the tech guy who was able to swing the offer as they have a bit more power to make the customer happy over sales.
I had found out I had no texting after the fact and support hooked me up with all sorts of goodies and was the one who highlighted how I could save some cash.
Reps like to lie. They can't force you off the grandfathered data... I just upgraded again and kept my data No need to jump through hoops. Just double check after they are done .
I also was able to keep my unlimited data plan from my iPhone when I upgraded to the Note 2 (which will be here tomorrow, woot!).

I don't understand why AT&T doesn't just declare an end to grandfathered unlimited data, rather than officially continuing to support it while often denying it unless the customer puts up a fight. Is AT&T legally forced for some reason to continue the grandfathered plans?

Well once you sign a contract I don't think they can change your plan without giving you an early out option. When you aren't under contract anymore I guess they figure you may leave if they don't let you keep it so they grandfather you into another two years with unlimited data...just a guess and I could be wrong.
I have transferred my AT&T Unlimited Data Plan from several phones. Sometimes I was told I could not keep the unlimited plan if I wanted LTE, but I asked to speak with a supervisor and it always got resolved. Most recently I transferred my SIM card from an international Galaxy S3 to the Galaxy Note 2 (AT&T version) and beforehand checked to be sure I could keep my unlimited data plan. I was and the transfer was uneventful and everything continues to work great.
I did exactly what you want with no problems. You probably just talked to a bad representative.

Thank-you to all of you who shared your experience. I can hardly control my urge to dump my iPhone 4S in favor of the Note II. Obviously, I am in the same boat like many of you. I was thinking about the wife-phone-switcheroo but she got her phone just about a year ago... I'll keep an eye on this thread an share my experience whenever I made the move!

I made this exact switch, and had zero problems whatsoever. In fact, my eyes widened when the rep told me that I would keep my unlimited plan, and she laughed and told me that that is the policy. I thought for sure that I was going to lose it.
